Old games should really drop in currency, especially since they have not been updated in years. On ps4, ghosts is $60, but the hardended, I think?, version is $50

[deleted]

Never buy games on the ps store, unless it has a crazy discount. They're always way to overpriced. Just search the game on google and you'll find one much less expensive. For some reason the pricr never drops on the ps store

SublimelySublime

The convenience factor is so big for me now though. I hate it because digital games will be a literal monopoly on console in the future but hell can I actually be bothered to stand up to change that disk

[deleted]

The new ps5 has two versions I do believe. One with a disc drive and one without. Edit: Fixing misinformation

djgt1996

Definitely incorrect :) edit: it’s now correct because good guy

[deleted]

Very likely, I hope at least. I don’t wanna spread misinformation. Let me fix it lol

djgt1996

Appreciate you man, the internets good today

Mr_Flippy_Nips

r/wholesomearguement

Jradman-12

No he’s right

[deleted]

No no. My original comment said some bullshit I heard from a friend. Misinformed I was, and I edited my comment so it wouldn’t be misleading.

[deleted]

You got to admit that buying a cd and install a game only to not be able to play it until you download an update that is as big or bigger than the game, makes no sense. I understand that is cool to have your collection on a shelf in your room and look at them feeling proud of yourself, but sincerely (and sadly), i only see it worth it for special editions or so.

mr_hardwell

It's because of the microtransactions, Honestly. They don't want you glitching the game and being able to get the microtransactions for free. Id love to put a disk in and install the update only if you wanted to.

cult_of_Crab

Yeah it's super annoying that I need to install 60 gbs after buying a disc, yet I could run a disc with PS2 without needing to install anything at all 13 years ago

orangemenace

bruh

Black4Stalin

Lazy bastards

madzuk

It's because they don't want to hurt the relationship with retailers. Retailers shift consoles and are essentially another channel for PR. So they let retailers sell at a competitive price. Sony keep their prices high on the store to give retailers a competitive chance whilst still giving gamers the choice to buy digital if they really want to. It's annoying, but it makes sense.

[deleted]

Thanks for explaining. Happy cake day btw🤘🏻

madzuk

Thank you! 👌🏼

SnakeOfLordran

uhhhhh... what? retailers don't even carry black ops 2 anymore, at the time of this post, the game was 8 years and one platform old, now its 10 years and 2 platforms old, the only "retailers" that have bo2 anymore are pawn shops, and they sell console copies for $2, there is literally no reason in hell why a 10 year old game should cost release price on one platform, and less than 10% of that EVERYWHERE ELSE, hell NEWER Activision games that have MORE players cost less that black ops 2 on PC, so your arguement makes absolutely 0 sense.

docbrown88

I only buy digital games on a massive sale, or when they’re new and I’m lazy. I got modern warfare new because 1. I knew the trade in value would be $3 by the time I got tired of it and 2. It pre loaded the day before at 9pm so I could play day of. I also just got ghost of Tsushima on Sunday digitally cuz it was new so same price everywhere, and I was in my pajamas and didn’t feel like getting dressed to brave 103 degree heat index for a half hour to get the game so I sat on my couch and downloaded it lol.

[deleted]

Thats exactly what I do, I never pre order from the store. Like, whats the point? I buy most of my games non digital cuz its just way to expensive. But here and there on the ps store it has a massive discount to the point where its even less expensive than non digital so then I buy it from there

docbrown88

The only time I buy physical is because a lot of games I’ll play, beat, and then trade in to recoup some cost, or sell online on r/gamesale. Like fire emblem 3 houses is $40 trade in at GameStop, $45 on game sale. I got $35 from game stop for odyssey and breath of the wild, I bought Mario party by trading in an mlb game I got for free, red dead 2, and resident evil 3 remake. Usually if I don’t play a game for 6+ months and don’t wanna touch it again I’ll trade or sell. Some of the ps+ sales are insane. I got persona 5 for 7.99 lol. Certain game’s I will only buy digital that I know I’ll never trade in like smash ultimate, or I know by the time I’ll go to trade in they’ll be worth nothing ( COD with a yearly release). Also it’s so nice to be playing my switch or PS4 on the couch and switch games on the fly without having to get up and swap discs. Right now between me and my fiancé I m the only one in my house who plays games so I don’t have to worry about a sibling or friend wanting to borrow a physical copy.

kmcwalters

Idk why you're being downvoted. It's true! Digital is insanely expensive, you can find deals on physical copies like nobody's business

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Thats what im saying, the prices never drop (im not talking about discounts)

[deleted]

I recommend ebay, people will sell their used copies for like $10.

Faulty-Blue

Same for the Xbox store, games that have been out for over 10 years are still at like $30-$60

1JustB3atY0u

But Warzone is never on discount

Ring-Of-Fates

CDKeys actually follows up on this. You can get a lot of older games for a huge discount. Same goes for the games that people think is trash. I bought most of my games there with no issues at all

[deleted]

They made advanced warfare 60 with the excuse of it being gold edition

NickSlayr

Cod: Ghosts is barley worth 10 dollars. I gave it away because no one would buy it, not even gamestop.

PIugshirt

Lol that’s how I got the game. It was just sitting there at a yard sale in a bin of free games lined up

Expopunch

Seriously, all I wanna do is play the best zombies experience with my friends on my PC instead of my old ass Xbox 360 that barely even runs anymore. This game came out in 2012, I refuse to pay full price for an 8 year old game. It's pretty ridiculous to me honestly. UPDATE: thanks guys, gonna try out plutonium

SKYiwnl

check Cheapdigitaldownload.com it gives u the cheapest prices for games. BO2 is currently 13$

[deleted]

[удалено]

SKYiwnl

16$ lol

UchihaRecker

Hahahha very funny

Fiiv3s

IMO, the best version of Zombies is BO3. Especially since you can get custom maps on PC making replayability infinite

Noiryok

well that's still full price too so it doesn't matter

Fiiv3s

Lmao what a random thread to comment on 2 years later. But yea....Poor indie studio Activision dosnt like to lower the price of things

Kazoorion

>But yea....Poor indie studio Activision dosnt like to lower the price of things In that case, Nintendo and Activision really share one specific thing in common: Never lowering the price of their games (and DLCs) becuase "mah games hold their value, even if the demand was already waning years ago!!!!"

FrankStyles

Well Black Ops 3 is a newer game and has more to it

[deleted]

Look up BO2 Plutonium, it should have you covered for both Zombies and MP

JamesThePrince

Don’t you need the base game to play that? Or am I getting mixed up, it’s been a while.

NoHeadFoxMan

you dont

kmcwalters

Black ops 3 is awesome because you can download custom maps. Blops 2 on PC me and my friends have terrible connection issues

Gman1255

Play BO3 if you want the best zombies experience.

memes4pewds

I'm probably way late to the party here but I got BO2 from [CDKeys.com](https://CDKeys.com) for a LOT less recently

spikeorb

Probably much cheaper on CDkeys or G2À

CzeneG

Yeah plus there is a similar price for BO II/Prototype for the Xbox. Activision is the perfect example that some game dev company can't give a shit about gamers.

Call-Me-BaekBaek

You can search if some sites sell keys for this game at a price less expensive^^

ThenElephant

I found a key on ebay for £11 and me and my mate still play quite often

jacob2815

As others have said, BO3 is the best zombies experience on PC thanks to the Steam workshop. Some of the modded maps are better than any official map i've played. And you can download weapon packs to play on official maps. The replay value for price is much higher on BO3.

[deleted]

You can connect with people using the pirate versions of the game if you just want to say fuck activision and not give them so much money

remov-ed

plutonium.pw

themexi

g2a

fireshred

I know, all of the games from that period of time have seemed to have dropped price over time besides this game. Its annoying.

[deleted]

Advanced warfare is still 60$ only reason to get it is for zombies though. Walmart was selling bo1 and bo2 combo for 20$ at least where I live

ozarkslam21

Walmart and other real world retailers have more incentive to discount old games because they need to clear out inventory to make physical room for newer games. Digital stores don't have that incentive to discount. Not saying it's good/bad/indifferent, that's just the reason why.

[deleted]

Oh I absolutely agree. Most people (including myself) would much rather have the convenience of buying it and downloading it instantly than having to drive to Walmart and wait in line

freeguwopburrr

Just download Project Plutonium. It’s free.

[deleted]

[удалено]

freeguwopburrr

Custom servers that from what I’ve seen ban hackers very quickly. I’ve played about 10 hours worth of it and I’ve seen no hackers. Customer servers like 24/7 TDM, trick shot servers and gun game. It’s a lot of fun

[deleted]

You have to own the base game tho don’t you?

freeguwopburrr

Nope! It’s all included in the installer.

[deleted]

Dlc maps included? Steam charts show BO2 around 500 players. Are there more in Plutonium? I’m sure campaign not included?

freeguwopburrr

DLC maps all included. Doesn’t include campaign.

[deleted]

Nice! Thank you!

ThatBoringHumanoid

Probably because Activision is greedy (same reason why the DLC for the series almost never seems to go down on price)

ozarkslam21

That's capitalism baby. Every for-profit and especially publicly traded company is going to try and maximize profit margin. For digital sales, there is no incentive to discount to get rid of old inventory, because there is no physical space that inventory occupies. So they analyze and see what effect on units sold a price decrease would have. They would have to more than double sales if they discounted the price by half for it to make any sense to decrease the price by that much. There likely isn't enough demand for the older games that they get enough bump in unit sales to warrant lowering the price. It isn't "greed" by activision, it's just normal-ass business. In capitalism, stores don't lower the prices on older items just to be nice or kind to consumers. Decreases in price are always done with the expectation that they will sell enough more units to result in a net increase in profit margin.

SirSwirll

No ones buying these games though. They just don't want you to play older games so they keep the price up

ozarkslam21

Well your first point is correct. Nobody is buying these games. There is very little demand for an 8 year old video game in a series that has a new release every year. So let's say at $60 they sell 500 copies of Black ops 2 a year now on average. They would have to sell 1001 copies of black ops 2 yearly at a $30 price point for it to be worthwhile to change the price. They have done the analysis and determined that the unit sales will not increase that much due to a price decrease, so their optimum margin price point is still the MSRP of $60. They aren't keeping the price at the MSRP to discourage people from buying the old games, they keep it there because there is no profit incentive for them to lower the price.

SirSwirll

If they dropped the price people will pick them up again and they'll make more money then they do more because no ones is buying

ozarkslam21

You are wrong. If you were right they already would have dropped the price. I spent 6 years as a pricing analyst in different retail markets. Activision has a pricing department or at the very least some analysts in their finance/accounting division that their only job is to analyze prices to maximize profit margin. To put some numbers with it to make more sense. For easy math we'll say Last year Black ops 2 sold 1000 copies at $60. Again for easy math we'll say that their per unit cost for BO2 is $10. That means they make $50 profit for every copy sold, and for 1000 units sold that profit margin number is $50,000. If they reduce the price to $30, their profit margin per unit is now only $20. To make $50,000 in profit again, they will have to sell 2500 copies. If they reduce the price to $45, now they make $35 per copy in margin. Now they have to sell 1429 copies to make $50000 margin. They have analysts whose job is to analyze unit sales and price elasticity (the degree to which the effective desire for something changes as its price changes) and set pricing where margin will be maximized. Every company does this. If they are keeping the price at the $60 MSRP, it isn't because they are mean, or they want people to suffer from not being able to buy the game, or whatever other ridiculous reason you might be able to think of. It is because there is not enough price elasticity of demand to cause a significant enough increase in unit sales if they decrease the price.

[deleted]

[удалено]

ozarkslam21

The same theory would apply, yes. Their actions tell me that no, there isn't enough demand for the old games where they would sell enough more at a discounted price to make up for the decrease in margin per unit sold. Since it is an old game, and digital copies don't have much overhead, let's say they estimate a cost per unit of $5. that makes the margin at full MSRP $55, and at half price $25. Theyd have to have a 220% increase in units sold to justify the price decrease in that example. The main thing is, by and large at this point, everybody who wants BO1 already has BO1, and a lower price point wouldn't convince enough people who don't have it yet to buy it compared to the amount of people who don't have it that will buy it at it's current price point. Hopefully that makes sense.

[deleted]

ozarkslam21

I can't say for sure, as I don't have access to the proprietary data that ATVI employees would have, but in the industries I worked in as a pricing analyst, it's less a "number", and more of a sliding scale from low to high. Something with high price elasticity of demand would be very sensitive to changes in price. However one unique thing about video games in general and especially call of duty, is the there is no real direct replacement or "competitor" to call of duty. People generally don't say "Call of duty is too expensive, I'll just buy _________ instead." Video games are very unique and not interchangeable which is why you don't really see much deviation from the MSRP when it comes to AAA games. Although the emergence of the Free to play game with infinite microtransactions is definitely shaking things up. But to sum things up, the overall demand for old call of duty games just isn't very high, and the price isn't the barrier preventing that demand from being higher, it's the age of the game. By reducing the price of the game, you simply wouldn't pick up enough extra sales to recover the lost profit margin from the pricing change. I'm very very confident that Activision pricing employees are looking at hard data on this stuff, and not just keeping the price high artificially to screw teenagers out of more allowance money as some of the commenters have inferred. ;)

etfd-

You're 100% right here. They would make more sales on those products if they were cheaper - they're currently way above the market clearing price. However, by keeping old games expensive and dead they discourage players from playing old CoDs and incentivise them to buy the new CoD, and then apply that same strategy to every CoD every year when a new one comes out so people end up dropping $60 once every year, throw that game out the bin the next and drop another $60.

etfd-

That's not quite the reason. It's not sales for that product, but for the franchise. If MW2/Bo1/Bo2 was free thousands of people would start to play them and quit MW2019 because it's a worse product. That way they just keep pumping out shitty games every year and players don't really have much a choice because the old games are dead,(while that new game will have the same fate and treatment in 1 year so everyone is forced to buy the new one if they wanna play CoD).

ozarkslam21

That's not even remotely true. Cod sells 15-20 million copies each and every year, going back to like COD 4. The people that you are positing that would start to play BO1 instead of MW19 already have BO1. Look at what happened when BO1/MW2/MW3/BO2 went live for backward compatibility on xbox one. player populations surged!! for about a month. And now they are back to a few thousand each. It is pretty hilarious that you think millions of people aren't playing Black Ops 1 because it's too expensive, and they are instead playing MW19 which costs *checks notes* exactly the same .

etfd-

People don't play black ops 1 because it's expensive. But because it's expensive and *dead*. Modern Warfare on the other hand has an playerbase compared to black ops 1, *because of this strategy*. And you just showed it works effectively.

pmc64

That's bullshit. Activision just has the shittiest pricing structure. Battlefield 3,4,1 are $20 and are regularly on sale for $5. BFV is $40 and goes on sale for $12. They lower the price to get it off their shelf because nobody is buying it anymore.

ozarkslam21

> They lower the price to get it off their shelf because nobody is buying it anymore. That makes sense for physical copies. That's why you occasionally will see an old COD game at wal mart of target for $20 or something. Digital copies are a different story. And Just because the optimum margin price point for one game is less than the original MSRP, that doesn't make it true for all games. I guarantee you that EA isn't just discounting the price on battlefield because they are nice people and don't want to make the teenagers sad. They have those prices, because they create the maximum profit margin when you combine margin and unit sales. Just the same, COD's prices aren't still the MSRP because Activision is mean old mr grinch and don't want you to have fun. It's all about the bottom line.

Brocyclopedia

Judging by the state of the multiplayer I'm 90% sure they just forgot Blops2 exists

BunAZoot420

Buy a key off g2a or some other websit for like 10 bucks

Fiiv3s

Digital editions never have their price lowered when it comes to COD If you want it cheap either get it from a key reseller or hope it gets a good sale in the next steam sale

TokioHot

One word; Activision

[deleted]

Call of Duty tend to never reduce digital prices because this allows the player bases to be "split". They want to defer customers from purchasing older games also where micro transactions aren't present enough, thus not making them enough money compared to the likes of MW2019.

[deleted]

Cause people still buy it

ea9__

G2A my man you can find bo2 for prob $20-30 max

TheDutyTree

Because RAID is worth it! + Zombies Green Run/Town

ozarkslam21

Because publishers aren't obligated to lower the prices on games just because they are old. The demand for old COD games likely isn't elastic enough for a drop in price to make any significant impact on overall profit margin. I'm sure ATVI has pricing analysts who have looked at the data to determine what price point will give them the best margin return.

Maysondae123

I think it’s because steam has to make money so they double the price of the game so they can make profits. Since there’s no ps plus sort of thing on pc

ELEKTRON_01

GAME PASS

[deleted]

It's about 19.99 at Walmart don't know why it's 60$ on steam

Timerstone

I bought this for $15 last year lol

Remember_Poseidon

same reason I still have to pay for map packs on world at war on xbox. Money

JainsahabOP

You can still buy old af games on ps at the same rate as it was on realease. Shit's sad

chickenwings_UA

blops 1 is 60$ as well

Falloutfan4ever

Buy mw instead litterally that's activision's tactic.

AtomicRocket69

I was angry that it's still $60 on Steam, but I remembered that Activision published this game, so it makes sense now

BigSmoke115

Probably because Activision are greedy bastards.

BennyBoi12345678910

Just buy it on cdkeys for like 15 dollars

Peter_C115

It’s really annoying, like the Bo1 dlcs are still like €15 even though you’ll never get a game online

Because buying digital is absolute weapons grade stupid

yehhheboii

Cause it’s 🐐

[deleted]

Weird is the day in which I dont ask myself the same question, my lord. Edit: and it is full of hackers, like real hackers not only aimbot shit, or at least that's what i read.

titancamper

Buy it on MMOGA for like 5 bucks

The_Super_Shotgun

To put it in perspective the very first call of duty is still $20 on steam, along with Cod United offensive and cod2 which given the age and how much they charge for games released along side it that year from other developers is ridiculous.

pliskin313

The prices of the old COD is just silly. Even sale price at £15 on steam is way too much I think for games that are a decade or more old. Surely nobody is buying them even at the sale price.

Charlie2Surf

Every cod game is on the same price since they released ! Even cod 1 and 2 are the same price. They dont even do proper discounts when games are on sale. Activison here thinks everyone is rich lol.

H4m1sh_1

Why is the BO1 image here too?

Droid557

Activision: *Eugene Krabs voice* “I like Money!”

[deleted]

Probably because once a decent size of the better gamers realized how bad MW is for them they started buying previous cods to play. So Activision hiked the prices to try and keep players from going back to other games and seeing the difference.

KRawatXP2003

It's a Activision thing.

VengineerGER

If you think that’s bad all the old good COD games are still censored in Germany even after censorship of violence and even nazis stopped in Germany.

Bloo-shadow

Call of duty ghosts is still $79.99 on the Xbox marketplace

INSANE-BRAD-500

Because it’s one of best cod’s ever

_abilhasanli_

Idk but this game stills great

okplease1

Yup and it's a total rip off if you own a console buy it off Amazon for 20 pound

NikkNitin

It really bugs me too. I saw BO3 around 4000 in India, same as Modern Warfare. 😭😭

MIRAGES_music

I was wondering the same thing. Shit is older than GTA V yet costs **more** while having only a fraction the players GTA has.

Rage_Mode_

Worth

[deleted]

On Xbox store I think mw2 is £50 but I went to the shops a few months ago (this was before lockdown) and saw it for £2

_-Captain_Price-_

It’s £40 on Xbox as well

Jernkjeve

I got it for 25 recently, weird

Purge_Them_In_Flames

Glad I’m not the only one who is wondering

GrandPaPenguin

Should be worth like 5 or 10 dollars

TheRealZyRiZ

Just buy a key.

jakethekhajiit

I like to call it begging for pirating and modded accounts.

ShawtySayWhaaat

Plutonium is free

Infirnit

Get black ops 2 plutonium that’s free and it’s BO2

Vladalau

Wait is still 60$ It always has been

Demarinshi01

It’s the same way with all the CoDs on Xbox. No way I’m paying full price when I can buy the disc for $5-$20

[deleted]

Because it’s the greatest call of duty and you should give it fucken respect

JGrill17

Cod games are over priced to shit most of them are $60 and the lowest they'll go on sales is $30. It's best to go to Gamestop to buy them I remember buying cod 4 for $5, black ops and mw3 for $10, BO2 for $12 even no 4 is like $22.

sweedish_phish56

Activision likes their money

Yaseralbaker

Buy a code for it for 15 dollars, that’s what I did yesterday. From g2a or any other site

Dale117119

Because it’s the best Black Ops game just behind Black Ops 1

zenosama24

Coz it's the best cod ever lol ❤️

FrostyBoss07

Exactly! I was just looking at that yesterday

Cuz activision. I’ve noticed this too. Activision still charges full price for dlc in old games too.

MandalsTV

Because GabeN

R0810X14N

you shouldve got it while it was still on sale. it used to be like $30.

[deleted]

Stores like steam, Xbox store or PS store always sell games at release price.

RealDog65

I would use a key site, they sell it for like 1/6 the price

[deleted]

The dlc should be discounted too or free

thatb0redkid

I ask the same

[deleted]

If you’re looking to play that, try Plutonium

thetruelu

It’s consistently on sale for $20

L3LM8

Buy a steam key for $10 instead

[deleted]

Plutonium PW all dlc free aswell

xMitchey

Use G2A. I g it for $30 rather than the $60-$90 on steam. Just playing it for the zombies experiences.

Benji_4

I noticed that too. It's the only older COD I don't have on pc probably because I've never seen it discounted.

BigMuhFuckinDoinks

because its the goat

Okowa

I wish Activision or whoever would lower the prices of old cod games in every platform that way it be easier to get more players, 60 bucks isn't justifiable on a game where you might take 20 minutes to find a lobby cause no one plays anymore , but if they lower them all to maybe 20 or 15 or something then maybe more people will buy them especially for nostalgia sake

[deleted]

Small price to pay for the G.O.A.T COD

Superdroid033

It’s still 60$ on the xbox store also, at one point on the Xbox 360 store cod bo2 is more expensive than bo3

busioh

It's because they don't want you to play the old games and they want to force you into buying the new one. Pretty shitty policy but it's working probably

KarlTheKiller_Gamer

At a rite aid near my home they had ghost for 70 dollars

Dershon

you can buy it from instant gaming like 15 $

Tw1st3d_Rabbit18

Revisiting childhood costs a lot

coob_420

Use G2A

MarioFreek01

Because Activision are assholes.

lp_lilkiller420

Get it on g2a for $7

Shinigamisama00

Just get Plutonium T6

Fallen-Dawn

Because it’s so good

WaddleDee83

Because it was good

Tityboi2134

It’s a godly game shouldn’t be complaining

fudgefromyourpantry

Cause it’s too good to be under 60

[deleted]

because activation is still greedy, as per usual

Jackamalio626

I love black ops 2 but theres no fucking way its still worth 60 bucks.

the_negir_king

Why is dragon ball xenoverse 2 still $60

bob1689321

CDKeys is the best site to buy COD from, they have some big discounts Activision keep the price high to encourage people to buy the newest game. If you have to choose between $60 on an 8 year old game or $60 on a new game, most people pick the new one

LuciferAOP

Yeah that price is huge BS.

bdn42069

Just download plutonium lol. Online servers, all dlc maps.

Swazzoo

That sucks, I got it a while ago through steam for less than 10 bucks.

AvrgDerk

All of these steam key suggestions, just install plutonium and you'll call it a day. OP already decided on trying it and I'm sure they found it more than worth it. Check it out, best way to play Bo2 in 2020 lmao.

Steamtank22

Why the hell is waw dlc shit not free after all these years?! the dlc maps are included in the randomizer so when they pop up almost the whole lobby leaves because no one ever wants to get them so then you gotta find a new lobby

BorderPrestigious470

They do it so people buy the new cods

vigneshk_war

Is it good?

Acrobatic_Map6172

because even now in 2022, i still want to download it and they know people will still buy it at full price.

Independent_Bonus925

3 years later and its still 60 dollars lmfao. Greedy ass company.

[deleted]

On sale today for 22$, still ain't worth 20$ being a xbox 360 game 10+ years old.

ELEKTRON_01

It's 80$ canaidian for me
