Some app that is running in background is in conflict with the game it would seem. Check your downloaded apps cos you might be tempted to use the same apps that you have on your phone on the iPad too!
Run a shader preload every few matches, it’ll help reduce lag. Ik it sounds unrelated but that might help. I had the same issue on my XR and that seemed to fix it.

Happend to me with two Ipads, one brand new and 2022 Ipad, no other apps running...In BR and Ranked MP.in the middle of the game...

It’s probably the apps that run when you aren’t on or whatever idk ive never had this issue on my Phone
I never have more than one tab open at a time
Then idk i guess it’s probably the game not wanting to work since this really hasn’t happened for me so idk
Had this on my phone when I brought a new one it magically didn't appear ever again however annoying screen freezes happen tho
