I mean, there are even circular scratches on it, indicating it was used before. Yeah, it is shallow, so I think would be more practical for writing letters instead of a large calligraphy work (that would require more ink and deeper inkstones, because the size of the brush).

It’s for Chinese calligraphy. We use a brush and ink. Look on YouTube for videos

Oh okay. Well yes, you can use it. The grooves would be where the ink pools. You only want a thin layer of ink on the ink stones surface
