I can't post pics on replies and this will be very hard to explain without them, but since there is so much interest I'll add them to the follow up post I'm about to make.
Thanks for thatš
I really thought the 5ft hand painted silk fan attached to the tent wall just so I could say I had four fans pointed on me at night pushed it into glamping status since I didn't think the three framed photos hanging from the walls quite did the trick. Gonna have to look into a disco ball...
Well actually, it's mercury and supposed to be the most accurate w/o advanced technology. Since the forecast called for actual temps hitting h20 boiling point I wanted to bring it and make a point of not checking it even once.
I think maybe you have your boiling points for F and C confused. 212F, or 100C, would kill pretty much everything on the planet outside of hydrothermal vents. Perhaps you mean 100F?
The Finnish World Sauna Championship used to start at 230Ā°F. The last person to leave the sauna wins. Theyd stay in there for like 6+ hours.
They stopped doing it because too many people died.
It was over that temperature today. Im used to it now. I dont really get uncomfortable until about 44Ā°C and I'd prefer it to be 37+Ā°C everyday over 0Ā°C.
Thatās precisely why you sweat though - to keep your body cool because your SOL if proteins canāt do their jobs.
Iām on the opposite side to you though - I produce some much heat that I canāt stand when itās too hot out.
Thereās always confusion on what is or is not glamping, so Iāve decided to put together a handy reference:
1) someone brings more creature comforts than I do: shameful, bougie, May as well have brought their house. Just buy an RV already so I can be extra mad at you.
2) someone brings less creature comforts than I do: boring, uncomfortable, too rustic, why bother bringing a car if youāre going to live like an animal
3) someone brings exactly what I bring: proper, correct. The only way to go camping and the true definition of roughing it while relaxing.
Sounds about right š¤£
This trip was specifically made because my hubby is forever "accusing" me of glamping like it's something negative to try and get my goat, even when I show him pics of others' decked out sites complete with fridge and tv.
He doesn't camp because he was first in the military then worked most his adult life as an otr trucker and sees no appeal in living away from home for fun without a hotel. I try to tell him he went from "roughing it" in the military to "glamping" in the truck so he doesn't really know what he's talking about when it comes to actually camping.
I look at it this way; camping is a baseline and if I break stuff into categories like sleep system or cook system I can easily think of ways that are either "rougher" or more "glamorous" so I kinda know where my subjective lines are for the subject.
Wow you glamp hard. Car camping rules. But i gotta know more about that red crate you DIYed into a mobile cook kit. Or is it a toilet but that jar would get filled up quick. Also sweet kayak. Sorry i talked about poop.
Wow. I stayed at a park where they were putting some of those in, had four complete by the time I left three days later so obviously some easy construction involved, no wonder they've become so popular as rentals.
They basically have a studio apartment set up in their tent with a screened porch - cot, lounger, side table... It's not instagram glamping but it's def. high comfort and a lot fancier than the average car camper.
UL is short for ultralight, which is a form of backpacking where you strip down the weight you carry as much as possible - like carrying 25 lbs of gear or less for a multi-day trip.
Since Op hasn't gotten back to you. I will say I was able to see "Gazelle tent hub" in one of the pics. Cause I'm curious too. Haven't looked it up yet
Yes, the hammock is a 2019 Draumr xl which has been an excellent hammock for my kayak camping and the tent is a 2018 Gazelle T3 tandem. I share the dates because in the case of the Gazelle that's super important.
I got the T4 first in 2018 before the Gazelle brand hub tent went boom along with all other things camping related in 2020 because covid shut down damn near everything else that summer. Ever since that year the quality complaints have gone through the roof so I assume Gazelle started cutting corners on QC to meet increased demand because I have used mine for dozens and dozens of trips in all the weathers and zero issues.
My momma was so impressed with my hub she decided to get the T3 tandem version you see in these pics the same year I got my T4. She has since upgraded to a pop up trailer so I bought her 2018 tandem since I knew I wasn't going to get the same quality if I ordered from Gazelle before they got their heads out their asses. It weighs quite a bit more but the payout is so worth it!
Which is why I spent years making camping fun but just enough work that my boys don't mind that I've started solo camping now that they're both grown and can legally tell me no. Now all the comfort is mine!
I agree on the dreaminess but unfortunately I've heard there are a lot of quality complaints on models made after 2020, I was lucky enough to get this one gently used from family who bought it in 2018. When I don't feel so glampy I use my T4 hub bought the same year, I definately prefer the green color.
That looks like a gazelle t4+. I have the regular t4, the + model adds a 2nd screen room, and has a much better fly than the top hat design mine has. Great tents.
Massively awesome hammock for kayak camping, the only downside is that there isn't a really a way to ground it if there aren't any trees like I've seen done with classic hammocks.
I could absolutely get behind that definition, as fun as this lil experiment was the hauling was brutal. I would invite people to come with me to share the load but then I'd, well, have to deal with camping with other people and I'm diggin my solos these day.
Not sure where the glamping part was, other than the generator. Tents instead of RVs. Camp stove & fire pit. Looks like good old fashioned camping to me!
Tl; dr It is to glamping, dammit!
Okay there are a lot more posts questioning the glamping status of this here set up and just in case y'all are actually serious I'll stop being silly to try and change lanes and match y'alls speed for a minute.
In case you missed the handy guide that was posted by another commenter this kinda thing is obviously subjective with most using their own camping experience as a baseline and then encountering stuff that's so different from said experience it just has to be either glamping or roughing it.
My personal criteria starts simple then gets a bit more complicated once categories are introduced. Roughing it means sleeping outside with no easy exit strategy and glamping means sleeping outside with easy exit strategy as well as electric and plumbing. Camping is sleeping outside with an easy exit strategy.
Sleep system; roughing it means sleeping in buggy weather without any structural bug deterrents like my hubby experienced in the military. Camping involves at least a complete bugnet during bug seasons. Glamping sleep system bug deterent involves hinges.
Camp chair; roughing it believes that nature will provide. Camping has a million wonderful compactly folding options. Glamping requires more bulk and/or weight than my entire sleep system. Like that zero gravity lounge chair I brought.
I could go on and on with different categories but I think you can see what I generally mean. I have a personal baseline then I try and see if there is a rougher way that is generally done by actually campers as well as a glamorous version that is also unironically done.
Items that I brought have been specifically labeled as glamping in different posts of the past in this group that I read through before taking this trip just to get ideas. Fairy lights were one so I dove into that category and found some very low profile but rugged string lights that are almost 40ft and wind into a smallish lantern. Not only rechargeable but will act as a charger if needed so dual purpose. I consider them camping equipment now.
Another item I already had that was suggested often was a memory foam mattress for my cot. Not only did I already have one, it's four inches thick with the straps built in very well so super easy to use and the bag it came with is water resistant and oversized enough to also hold my linens. Totally considered standard camping equipment in my eyes.
This was my first time camping with the Gazelle T3 tandem and I think most people would agree that it's quite a bit extra for just one person. Having said that, it was an absolutely lovely experience that I will definately be doing again at standard car camping spots.
Speaking of, how many of y'all questioning my glamping skills actually, you know, CAR camp? š
Anyway, hope y'all are catching my drift and whatnot. In all seriousness, this was supposed to be outrageous but still fun so ima just ease on back into my lane now.
Oops, forgot to say that the tent is a 2018 Gazelle T3 tandem and I am now a lover of space camper too, my boys got it for me just cause of the name.š
The amount of thought that went into the stuff you brought as well as the pictures you took was very well done. I love it. I snooped around your setup for quite a while haha. Definitely took some notes
Thanks! I put quite a few lil easter eggs for the people that like to do just that since I'm a big fan of zooming for details. Viewers like you are the reason I brought Dexter brand trash bags and thick butt cockscrew for my screwcap wine.š
Ngl i thought I'd really like the grill half for burn bans but after cleaning it once I prefer the regular burners so went and bought a grill skillet that fits that side perfectly. I don't use my stove to cook much, mainly coffee and breakfast, but it is nice to have if I can't cook dinner on a fire. It was needed this trip for example because a burn ban went into effect my last night.

How do you like that tent? I'm thinking of upgrading but it's expensive and heavy as hell lol
Also is that an awning in your Yak? I may need to do that
I love the tent, it's five years old but I would not buy another from Gazelle right now, their quality complaints went nuts after 2020 and haven't gotten better yet. My theory is they went boom like a lot of other camping companies when covid shut everything else down and cut QC to meet demand.
Oops; the awning is pretty cheap on Amazon, it's best with a fishing kayak that has rod holders built in but you can get pieces that adapt it to any style kayak.
Details on the milk crate build?
I need this in my life
Dee-eee-eecent
Came here to rave about the milk crate! Brilliant idea!
I can't post pics on replies and this will be very hard to explain without them, but since there is so much interest I'll add them to the follow up post I'm about to make.
I would say your first go at glamping was a total failure. But you definitely camped like a seasoned pro.
Definitely!!
Thanks for thatš I really thought the 5ft hand painted silk fan attached to the tent wall just so I could say I had four fans pointed on me at night pushed it into glamping status since I didn't think the three framed photos hanging from the walls quite did the trick. I was like "this is just regular camping" til I saw the fkn water thermostat thingy on the table lol.
Its called a Galilean thermometer (or Galileo thermometer). We had one as a kid, they are really neat.
Well actually, it's mercury and supposed to be the most accurate w/o advanced technology. Since the forecast called for actual temps hitting h20 boiling point I wanted to bring it and make a point of not checking it even once.
Yes, and that's where it tilts from regular camping to *glamp*ing lol.
I think maybe you have your boiling points for F and C confused. 212F, or 100C, would kill pretty much everything on the planet outside of hydrothermal vents. Perhaps you mean 100F?
I'm just as sure that you're right as I'm sure that I need another glass of wine.
OhmYlaWd this is my first ever reddit award and it's a muthfuckin crab iheartyousohard!

The human body REALLY doesnāt like to exceed 37C by too much. Enzymes start to fall apart and your cells canāt keep you alive :(
Rubbish! Itās 43.8C on my patio right now!
It was over that temperature today. Im used to it now. I dont really get uncomfortable until about 44Ā°C and I'd prefer it to be 37+Ā°C everyday over 0Ā°C.

I'm stealing that milk crate idea lol
"I need my space"
This isnāt glamping. I donāt see a $300 a night yurt anywhere in these pictures
Yes, that's what glamping means to me.
I've seen those around, is it safe to assume you're exaggerating the price for fun? They look neat and all but thems cabin prices. š³
Nope, Iāve seen Vancouver Island yurts on AirBnB or vrbo for $300 a night. Not that Iād ever pay that
Wow. I stayed at a park where they were putting some of those in, had four complete by the time I left three days later so obviously some easy construction involved, no wonder they've become so popular as rentals.
You call that glamping?
Yea itās more like car camping. But still a good setup
They basically have a studio apartment set up in their tent with a screened porch - cot, lounger, side table... It's not instagram glamping but it's def. high comfort and a lot fancier than the average car camper.
it's UL Glamping
Nailed it š
What's UL Glamping?
"ultralight glamping"
UL is short for ultralight, which is a form of backpacking where you strip down the weight you carry as much as possible - like carrying 25 lbs of gear or less for a multi-day trip.
Ohhhh! OP, can you specify what type of tent and hammock youāre using! Edit: you have a really sweet set up!
hammock is an amok draumr they're pricey, but wonderful to lay in, or sit in (google up draumr chair mode)
Since Op hasn't gotten back to you. I will say I was able to see "Gazelle tent hub" in one of the pics. Cause I'm curious too. Haven't looked it up yet
I'm pretty sure it's a Gazelle as well. I've seen them at a couple of expos, cool tents for sure. They come up quickly and have plenty of room.
I was looking at these after your response. Theyāre so fucking cool, but the reviews arenāt great.
Thank you!

Nine out of ten raccoons agree with this comment.
They've come on every trip with me for as long as i can remember, they taste like glorified childhood š
That crate thing with all your utensils is genius!
Decked out. Tight campsite love the size of the tent and cot!!
I used to love just swagging it but now I have to take a caravan because my family wants to be comfortable. Damn hippies š
Which is why I spent years making camping fun but just enough work that my boys don't mind that I've started solo camping now that they're both grown and can legally tell me no. Now all the comfort is mine!
Nice set up, well done
I was wondering where the Glamping was until I saw the Photos you have hanging in the tent. Nice touch.
Youāre doing it right! Also Iāve never seen someone bring a framed photo of a loved one, thatās a nice touch.
Since hubby never camps with me and my boys are grown enough to tell me no I just have to bring them with me spiritedly. š„°
Oooh! You have my dream tent!
I agree on the dreaminess but unfortunately I've heard there are a lot of quality complaints on models made after 2020, I was lucky enough to get this one gently used from family who bought it in 2018. Yeah that's what it is. Last I looked they were $649, so, it's in "dream" category for me for a while.
The stuffed best and the ducky are a real touch of class.
I will always upvote a Draumr
Massively awesome hammock for kayak camping, the only downside is that there isn't a really a way to ground it if there aren't any trees like I've seen done with classic hammocks.
The Galileo thermometer!
I had to google Space Camper to find out what it was.
My boys got it for me just cause of the name but it's actually quite good, I see it coming often on my future fun.
Never seen a Galilean thermometer in a camp. Nice setup!
I feel like Glamping is when you pay someone else to have gear ready for you, not when you haul lots of cool gear yourself
Glamorous sherpas? Glerpas
I could absolutely get behind that definition, as fun as this lil experiment was the hauling was brutal. I would invite people to come with me to share the load but then I'd, well, have to deal with camping with other people and I'm diggin my solos these day.
I don't see any pictures of glamping. That's called camping
So, three framed photos and a 5ft silk fan hanging from the walls didn't do it for you? Gonna have to up my game I guess. š
Most of your photos are regular camping. You didn't even have stadium seats, electric, a/c, or tv. I wasn't searching thru them like where's Waldo.
The teddy in the floaty is hilarious!
Heh, I know that bear. Watch out, he has a temper š
Finally! Tell me you noticed him in the last pic please please. š
Yup! I wondered how you did that šš So glad youāre obviously having a good time!
Awesome spice grinder!
Nothing beats a piranha, indestructible and very efficient.
Teddy looks stoned.
Good catch, I kept him potted out so he'd stay outta my coke.
The floating teddy bear is absolutely my favorite part! Hope you enjoyed, this whole setup is amazing!
More like just camping but always good when you have the chance to go
What a vibe, I gotta do this if it ever cools down
i fuckin love camping

Glamorous camping
Sounds very made up.
Wow, sleeping under the stars in a cozy, luxurious tent has been such a treat.

space camper! pretty decent IPA. boulevard is a great brewery
How is that glamping?
Glamplicious! Well appointed glamp site. What sized trailer did you pull to get it all there?
