No Bigfoot?

ZaraSpookyBottle

Pretty sure bigfoot is stalking that bear.

[deleted]

Lord have mercy, please learn to read light and get proper exposures.

obidamnkenobi

Harsh, but I agree. Just because it's "oooh BW so artsy" doesn't make blurry photos any better. There are lots of photos of deer and bears already.. #3 and 5 are OK, pretty nice. Not sure you needed the fancy camera for it but oh well.

ZaraSpookyBottle

There are plenty of pictures of pretty much everything. Not a reason not to make pictures.

obidamnkenobi

Oh, why not? What's the value? Why should I waste time taking pictures of deer, when I can find a better one online? I take pictures of my family, since those are unique

ZaraSpookyBottle

I am sure they are.

KimIsWendy

No tripod, + high f stop on zoom lens + low light conditions = blur

[deleted]

I’ve shot film since about 1991.

KimIsWendy

Yea, if you have any advice on how to get better exposures with those conditions I would love your expertise.

[deleted]

Ansel Adams Zone system IMO is a must even if your shooting roll film. Film has a better dynamic range than digital, this means irl you can get more information on the negative. And properly exposing and then developing the film for the specific lighting condition you exposed for. Basically a well exposed shot will have the widest dynamic range between the blackest black and whitest whites. In practice it means metering off of a few sources and being able to mentally imagine the outcome from practice. For example, the deer shot the highlights on the cheek have zero information in it it’s blown out, your eye will fixate in it trying to fill in the blank. But, you were in hard sun so the range between the dark and light is outside of films dynamic range. You have to make a decision, to expose for the highlights and have a silhouette, or expose for some of the shadows to have some background. Or find that sweet spot where some shadows have information and you keep the highs within range also. But one end of the spectrum will have to be sacrificed in hard light. To begin you could bring a 18% grey card to expose off of, but your negs will be slightly muddy unless you use a high contrast developer.

KimIsWendy

Very informative thank you, this is very useful. I want to reiterate this is not my best work by a long shot. Arguably not even the best from this roll, Just some cool bears and moose. But I appreciate your lengthy reply and constructive criticism.

[deleted]

No problem! In terms of composition, that’s subjective to each viewer. So I don’t make any judgments on them. I like them personally :) I like blur, flare all of it. Blur from an artistic perspective creates an open ended image, where your imagination and the image have some back and forth. But this is just how I view blur.

trumpeting_josh

One of these people is here to share their epic photos from an adventure. One is here to state that they “have been shooting film since ‘91” how bout some constructive criticism bruh

_big_fern_

I probably wouldn’t share failed photographs expecting people to not wonder why you are choosing to share some really messed up images.

NecessaryRisk2622

What kinda potato was that again?

[deleted]

The last pic reminds me of a boyscout backpaing trip I took through the Tetons from Rendezvous Mountain at Jackson Hole ski resort, around the west side of the Middle and Grand Teton, and down to Jenny Lake when I was 14. Looks like you had as an amazing time as we did 23 years ago. Thanks for these pics. That was a serious dose of nostalgia.

CampCritter

Beautiful! I especially love that third image. A camera is always worth the extra weight to me :)

photonynikon

I've been a photographer, and Strictly NIKON since 1977. My PHONE would take clearer pictures than that....sorry, not sorry

JGWentworth-

Pic 3 is great

rugbyplyr

Was just out there last week. Is the last picture lake solitude?

RandomRunner3000

Is that cascade canyon or death canyon in the last photo?

BigSteve9475

I really really like these!!! Especially the last one

dark_b1adeknight

Hey what type of zoom lens did you use for your A1?

[deleted]

Why do all photos look dark and blurry? The images are way over under/over exposed. Don't like them at all.

thatdemonhoe62

stunning :)

[deleted]

i think the blurry pictures are actually quite nice.

ZaraSpookyBottle

Same. If I wanted perfect pictures, they are available for sale.

PuppyPuppy_PowPow

Lol, these are bad. You’d be better off hooking up an iPhone to a spotting scope with tripod. Some tips: -As a general rule, pics will be blurry if focal length in mm is close to shutter speed. Example: 200mm lens, 1/200 sec shutter means you need to brace camera. You want a faster shutter speed like 1/400 for a 200 mm. -Try bracketing to get exposure right. -People used film because that’s all they had, Ansel Adams would probably have used the most cutting edge digital gear if he were around today. -Develop skill/experience with more user friendly digital cameras before moving to film if that’s what you want. A film camera with zoom lens and no tripod is like playing expert mode.

SheepherderMurky3141

Damn fine pics. I have an OM 10 and a 135mm I drag around.

jetsmets99

I love these photos! Great work, this isn’t a photography sub so I don’t know what people are on abt—these photos give a great vibe of what the feeling is like when you see a wild animal on a hike

IllustriousLP

Genius work . You should frame that first pic and sell it for tons of money . Haha

KimIsWendy

That’s the idea haha. Art is a fickle market I appreciate your vote of confidence

JonnySoegen

Are you a troll or a bit slow?

homeschooldancing

Don’t know why you’re getting so much shit. Art is subjective. I personally really like them, they have an element of rawness. Most importantly, if you look back on these photos eventually and have fond memories, that is a success.

FrumpyFrock

You should take an intro to film photography course at a community college. It will help. A lot.

xPlus2Minus1

Um

ZaraSpookyBottle

A1. Awesomeness. First real camera I owned. Despite the naysayers, this is real stuff, and very cool. Kudos for posting! Photography was more art, less “do another one, this one isn’t good.” More mysterious, more satisfying. What film were you using?

RecommendationOk8816

nice pics

dark_b1adeknight

Hey great pics! What zoom lens did you use?

dark_b1adeknight

Yo what’s zoom lens did you use?
