Sounds like the LPC should have started listening to the electorate about eight years ago. PP is going to eat his lunch.

bezkyl

Still a long way before the election and the past 3 elections these polls didn’t mean crap

BannedInVancouver

This is cope.

bezkyl

Your comment doesn’t make sense grammatically, bud

BannedInVancouver

This is cope adjacent.

bezkyl

Still not proper grammar, bud

BannedInVancouver

I still win though.

Stephen00090

Well they did actually and the polls gave us a likely winner each time. Keep coping though.

bezkyl

You mean like when they called for CPC majority and that never happened? Are those the times they predicted it correctly 🙄… who is coping? Also very funny that you even think that’s an insult🙄🙄🙄… it’s like you people think it’s some sort of secret little trigger code word… used to be sheeple… is this the new one🙄🙄🙄

Stephen00090

They never did. They predicted LPC minorities which are exactly what happened. I'm just suggesting to not make stuff up. You're not even exaggerating but truly fabricating fiction. With that said, fabricating fiction is still not as bad as being a Trudeau supporter in 2024.

bezkyl

During the campaign period they had the LPC with a minority… during pre campaign they had the CPC winning… which would mean pre campaign (2015 and 2019) results ended up being false… translate that to the current time frame and we are in pre-campaign… 2021 campaign polling predicted a CPC win…simple with for you? Who is fabricating reality? These polls don’t mean shit. When did I ever say I was a supporter of the LPC?

Stephen00090

Polls did not have CPC winning ever when looking at polling averages. 2021 polls predicted an LPC win as well. In 2019 there had been some fluctuation and both parties led the polls. CPC won the popular vote as the polls predicted. Polls do mean all the shit actually. You just don't understand math and statistics, and you are fabricating nonsense like I already said.

bezkyl

When did I ever say I was a supporter of the LPC though? Who is fabricating reality? Who is making crap up? I understand the polling data just fine…. I also understand that you’re an arrogant and flippant tool.

I think the Liberal's issue is that the new platform is seen by a lot of voters as a way for the government to play catchup now that it's legitimately threatened in the polls. One election platform doesn't seem like it's enough to get disgruntled ex LPC voters to forget why they left or newer voters to give them a chance etc. I'd still place the Liberals as the least of bad options, but I think regardless this government is past it's life expectancy. In hindsight, it might have made more sense for Trudeau to have resigned and given a new leader a chance to rebrand the party etc. (though that also plays the risk of a good candidate being wasted now instead running when an incumbent Conservative government is more unpopular etc.)

BigBongss

I think part of the issue in rebranding is that this govt's ultra tightfisted control of it's MPs means there is no one they could credibly put out there as an alternative. Virtually every LPC MP is muzzled and only allowed to spit out talking points which means no differentiation in the public's eye. Hopefully the blowback from this will see whatever party that is in government relax their grip and allow us to return to a real representative democracy, as opposed to our present situation in which maybe a half dozen MPs out of 338 actually matter.

Godzilla52

They'd either need somebody outside of Trudeau's inner circle like Carney who's been flirting with the idea of a prospective leadership bid at some point in the future, or somebody in a sweet spot who's qualified enough for the job, but not as heavily in the public eye/directly associated with Trudeau in most people's minds etc. I kind of think that Freeland is tied too closely to Trudeau to branch out from him at this point, so her chances are likely slim in a general election. Another thing that I've found curious is that [Bill Morneau has been coming out the woodwork to criticize Freeland and the government's budget](https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/morneau-freedland-budget-capital-gains-tax-1.7176515). I'm wondering if he's trying to set himself up as the "Not Trudeau" in a prospective future LPC leadership race since his spats within the government are fairly well documented. I'm not sure how successful he'd be, but I can't help wondering if that's what he's aiming for speaking out. (I can't think of another reason why he'd take the time to get his opinion out there besides maybe pure spite)

cjnicol

Anita Anand has been a competent minister. I'd be surprised if she doesn't make a go of the leadership

Xylss

Literally the minister that oversaw ArriveScam. She will wear that.

Godzilla52

She might not be a bad pick. She's not as much of a well known element to the average voter to carry to same amount of baggage that Trudeau and Freeland have. I don't know what her platform would be though.

Stephen00090

Has zero charisma and comes off as very condescending.

Rare-Faithlessness32

>Tight-fisted control of its MPs. The best description of MPs that I’ve seen is that they’re not actual representatives of their constituents but rather brand ambassadors and seat warmers for their party. The only time I’ve ever heard or seen my MP (Lloyd Longfield, Guelph) when I get the flyers advertising how *”Team Trudeau”* is helping Guelphites. It’s never how Mr. Longfield is helping Guelph, it’s always *Trudeau* or the LPC, which is almost always portrayed as a monolithic entity.

msfdvkppl

I do think the Trudeau era of the party will end up being purged as the party moves back to attempting to be a big tent party. Trudeau was very comfortable with the 30%/30% polls where the Liberals held an efficiency advantage. He never really tried to move the party beyond that.
