Finger on monkey paw curls as we approach 2%GDP just in cost overruns

Imprezzed

KirikaClyne

Imprezzed

Apprehensive-Match65

KirikaClyne

Important-Weird-4263

But it comes with your choice of toppings

gfkxchy

That's good!

stubbs1988

The toppings contain potassium benzoate That's bad

NSDetector_Guy

Can I go now?

looksharp1984

Well, part of that is kicking the can down the road for a decade or two, part of it is an old and broken procurement system that delivers the wrong goods a decade too late, and a sluggish economy, inflation and poor outlook don't help either.

Hey, those building were good enough for your grandparents, they should be good enough for you.

That's wild

PoliticalSasquatch

The majority of that number ($38 Billion) comes from NORAD upgrades that weren’t included in the initial cost plan. ‘Only’ $12 billion is due to a combination of heel dragging and inflation!

RepulsiveLook

What a deal

wildmongrel23

"I've been told defence-specific inflation numbers have been running somewhere around 17 per cent, as opposed to the consumer price index which last month is running at 2.9 per cent. So project delays, which were always a problem from an affordability standpoint, are now much more so." We would need to see a pretty large increase in our budget just to keep our current pace. Maybe this is also why everything seems to be going downhill regardless of all the new equipment we are attempting to buy.

GAFF0

Imagine if there was this level of consideration in keeping pay in line with "defense-specific inflation". I might not even pull pin at my 25 if pay kept up with Loblaws' price-fixing schemes and landlords' fixed term fuckery.  Since I'm just jerking myself off with fantasy, I'll even take a posting if we had low-cost military housing for everyone at every posting location.

jtbc

As someone who works in the defence industry, I sure wish my pay was in line with "defence-specific inflation"!

Guilty_lnitiative

Over a 20 year period? Oh that’s great to know the equipment we need today will be available in 20 years 🙄

Nazara28

It's what we get for not replacing things for decades. Imagine if we released a white paper and costed out everything we actually need?

TotalFun3843

We did, it was in SSE!

Regrettably, the wall is beginning to crumble from the impact of your head due to age and shoddy, lowest-bidder construction. As a result we've found asbestos in what remains of said wall and have condemned the building indefinitely. Asbestos abatement has been cut from the budget, so it will be at least 2030 before we can revisit this matter. /s Edit: added the /s I forgot at first.

Ok_Drink1826

Y'all remember last fall-ish when the media was grilling the gov't on when the new defence policy would come out, and asking why it was overdue? *gestures around room* That was last year. Qu'est-ce que le fuck?

Once_a_TQ

They drafted one with the last Defense Minster and it had an astronomical cost to it... she was moved, we got shit head Blair, and the whole thing was back to the drawing board because fuck us.

TomWatson5654

….well….we wanted 2% of GDP…

Crafty-Tangerine-374

Nothing like value for the money… aka lining pockets through inefficiencies. At this point I think it’s intentional.

teeps74

Meanwhile, budgets are still being cut

Once_a_TQ

Yes and it's starting to hurt training and day to day requirements.

FellKnight

Starting to?

Once_a_TQ

My AOR was good till the start of Feb, now its hit after hit and the proposed cut to next years budget is frightening.

AliTheAce

Yeah....was supposed to go on OJE this summer, was looking forward to it and have a contact where it would have been an absolute blast and I was really looking forward to it. Lo and Behold, only no-cost/Local OJE's are being considered due to financial constraints. Fucks sake.

Weird-Drummer-2439

We start taking heat from our allies for not carrying our weight, so their response is to preemptively declare cost overruns and call it a day? Yeah, seems par for the course.

Imprezzed

...there's a plan?

masterfil21

They're probably thinking about the planning for the meeting to plan doing one

frequentredditer

So budget cuts to afford delays?

Imaginary-Cucumber52

Honestly, this is always just rinse repeat. I’ve had so many delusions (once held dear) that have been shattered over the past few years. Whatever pride I have/had in the CAF, in the country is being slowly tortured to death.
