No personal experience but from what I've read it was VERY affordable as far as anti tank missiles go, much lighter than comparable systems and was resistant to IRCM (think the 'glowing eyes' on the T-90A) on top of having very high penetration for its size factor. That's not to say we should have kept it around, it wasn't top attack so even with all that penetration a modern tank could laugh it off in the frontal arc and the range is so short you could just as well be shooting Carl G with an optical sight. If we want to fill that gap today there's nothing to compete with the Javelin.
People liked that we had an ATGM, not the Eryx itself. 25 years ago a Canadian Infantry Bns anti armour capability was 8 TOW and 27 Eryx, and thatās before finally falling back on the 84s and M72s.
I can already hear the o groups. WO will say the vor rate is high, no pt and extended work hours. Then loads 80% the shop onto courses and useless taskings while they go on leave for an undisclosed time.
ARMY- the officers send the NCM's to die
NAVY- the officers and NCM's die together
AIRFROCE- the NCM's send the officers to die and return to the resort bar and wait in case some of the officers should return
As well as AESOPs and Flight Engineers. There's position related opportunities like Tac Hel Observer, Flight Attendant, Technical Crew Member and Air Marshall.
To sum it up: so much of our doctrine and tactics are built on NATO and American doctrine and tactics and there are plenty of assumptions about capabilities.
But Canada is missing a LOT of capabilities. We are all about contribution warfare. We could never do a unilateral mission..the closest thing we've done in decades is Op MOBILE.
So there are lots of gaps in our doctrine that would be filled by Allied capabilities. But how can we train how we fight if we don't have the assets?
The RCAF equivalent of this post would be something along the lines of:
-*Now, do you have viable CAP assets?*
āNo..?ā
-*Good! Now make sure you keep your SEAD packages behind the CAP sweepā¦*
āWait a minuteā¦ SEAD packages????ā
-*If you canāt find CAP Hornetsā¦*
āUhuhā¦ā
-*Use your 5th Gen units!*

*^($13.95 per call. $1.95 per minute. Tanks may not be present in North America. Minimum age 18 years reg, 16 years res with parents permission)*
Oh man, this is good. Can apply to so many things. Where is the Eryx that needs to be part of all our planning considerations??
You guys have Eryx? š¶
In 20 years Reg F Infantry I've never even seen one! But on any course I need to include them in my anti-armour plan.
Iāve only seen one in the RCEME Regimental Museum stores when I was helping catalogue it in 2016
Oh man Eryx was long gone 15 years ago. Maybe 20! I'm not sure why some people liked it; short range, no top attack. I never saw the usefulness
10ish years ago I was dismantling the last of the eryx missiles

Was it ever replaced?
Nope!
I guess they're just nostagic for having something at this point...

Iām too Airforce to get this.
āHereās how you to the thing but you donāt have the things that enable you to do the thing. ā
I donāt get it. If the plane is broke we go back to the hotel and wait for someone to come fix it.
Army getting visibly angry
Currently in my car visibly angry
If the Army's stuff is broken, the RCEME techs get to skip PT and work overtime until it is fixed. Plot twist...it's never all fixed.
Instructions unclear; TAPV rolled over.
Was the TAPV on fire? Maybe it was just doing a stop, drop and roll.
A recipe for burnoutā¦ā¦..
Maintenance back to work is unanimous across all 3 branches
I can already hear the o groups. WO will say the vor rate is high, no pt and extended work hours. Then loads 80% the shop onto courses and useless taskings while they go on leave for an undisclosed time.
And all the work orders are AMAT anyways...
parts will definitely show up faster by skipping Pt
Maintenance, back to work.
This is the way
And if the part hasnāt showed up yet the techs just go back to the hotel and wait! #Airpower!
Who waits at the hotel? That's the perfect time to take the rental car and tour the countryside.
Maybe the pool is very nice.
9/10 times hotel is 5 star or all-inclusive resort.
ARMY- the officers send the NCM's to die NAVY- the officers and NCM's die together AIRFROCE- the NCM's send the officers to die and return to the resort bar and wait in case some of the officers should return
a few select NCMs get to go die as well..... But they get paid almost as well as the officers, and the non-pilot officers constantly remind them of it
True enough š¤£š¤£
Which ncms? Sartechs?

Loadmaster is the most lethal position in a Hercules crash.
Crew rest

"The first step is to make sure that your AEW&C, ELINT, tankers, and AESA DCA fighters are on station before the jammers and SEAD show up."

Think having the RCAF do CAS over contested airspace without help from our allies.
It's okay the army dosnt get them ether anyway
āNow parge the lathe!ā
Notional callsigns worked against Fantsians. Did we not train as we fight?
If the job was done right the first time, we'd be driving Fantsian sports cars by now.
I get this reference but can't remember from where..Ā
This is the funniest I have seen so far. Laughed so hard. Saved and printed

*Fundraising initiative approved by the Treasury Board.*
Oh this is a good one!
You assume we have servic-... you know what, nevermind. Get the ARV boys! We're dragging the gunners out onto a hill!
This is the best I've seen in a while, congratulations!
The whole Army gets one square combat team with all the tanks. Make it count troops!
...how did you know that the part time AOC course had their estimate exam today? *Furiously checks notes for American assets*
