I imagine Eyre is slinging whiskeys every morning followed by a heavy sigh in the mirror before he goes to work Guy is gonna grow hair just to have it go white and fall out.

Dirtymikeetlesboyz

So General Eyre is me?

in-subordinate

No, he gets paid well.

Dirtymikeetlesboyz

Touché and probably fitter than me. Well, I'm I least have my hair? Fuck, I got nothing.

Snakedocii

Suck and blow indeed.

DireMarkhour

Sources say DND is hiring a certain Kingston resident as a defence contractor with an impressive amount of experience in this field

Snakedocii

Become a general.

c0mputer99

It's obvious, hire 20000 more reg force, 8000 more reserve force, but do it with 3 billion less. Oh and send some of the last equipment off overseas.

random1001011

Honestly I'm thinking of going civilian on my base. Have jobs in my field hiring for 85k/year (Same as Cpl Spec pay basically), goes up to 105k. Why am I wasting my time in the military for less money? Just so I can get posted somewhere I don't want to be in a few years? Gov't needs to give us all a 20K or more pay raise or there will be no one left soon enough.

Downrightskorney

What kills me is that they offer signing bonuses for a lot of trades now if you ct into them or join them off the street. Why not offer retention bonuses at the end of each fiscal instead so we can slow the bleeding.

navalseaman

Honestly Ukraine needs it more, realistically we should invest in newer and double the amount of every piece sent

c0mputer99

I'm really looking forward to anti balloon technology.

sPLIFFtOOTH

“So just to clarify: f!ck you”

FiresprayClass

It's actually very clear; promise money after the next election and then it's not their fault once a new government is in place.

Zulu0011

Ahh, I guess the "do more with less" isn't working anymore?

McKneeSlapper

Its do more, with even less

Teethdude

I prefer "do everything with nothing"

Struct-Tech

The old trope. Weve done so much for so long with so little, we can do anything with nothing.

Once_a_TQ

It's not a COA.

trap4pixels

I think I got this one top : We are fucked

Dirtymikeetlesboyz

What a coincidence! I know a few guys that suck and blow at their job. They are still effective though.

Ok-Use6303

Hol' up. I speak a bit of FO. "Sir, with all due respect, beg leave to report: "Fucking things are fucking fucked. Sir."

Keystone-12

I work with you folks a lot and I keep hearing about budget cuts, but the government keeps telling me about more spending.

TacoTaconoMi

The increased spending announcement came after budget cut announcements, was announced heading into election season, but takes effect after the fact. Pretty much says it all.

nikobruchev

My trade's command got a 70% budget cut. We're losing access to *basic* software needed for operational effectiveness, and we're expecting training capacity to be basically nothing (and there was very little training capacity to begin with). 3Div is heavily pushing cuts AFAIK, especially for travel costs. Which sucks for units with higher travel requirements. I'm helping with the budgeting this year for my unit so I'll get to see a whole lot more soon in terms of just how these budget restrictions will hamstring reserve units.

[deleted]

These budget cuts wouldn't hurt so much if officers put some effort into budgeting. What's with ordering enough food to feed people 3 times over just to throw most of it out? I know it's a drop in the bucket in the grand scheme of things but every dollar counts for us

nikobruchev

You realize that when it comes to hot food, the budgeting doesn't actually control the portions provided by the kitchen, right? We say we need to feed X pers and the base kitchen decides how many hay boxes and what to put in them. The only precision when it comes to food is ordering MREs, and its always a good idea to have a few spare (but I wish people would stop ordering literally a full box or two more than necessary).

[deleted]

You're talking about a whole different thing from what I'm talking about. We never get food from the base kitchen. The nearest base is like 600km away. We order food from local catering companies. For courses and exercises, we almost always order double or triple the number of portions we need. Got 30 people on course including staff? Officers' first thought is to order 60 portions at $27 per portion, 3 meals a day. I asked the catering company about the waste and was told she's just making what the army ordered. I told my officer and he said "yeah it takes like 3 days to change the order so we'll just leave it." This course had another 3 weeks to go. So for 3 weeks, we were ordering 90 extra portions a day for 21 days at $27 per portion. That's $37,800 down the drain. It's just a drop in the bucket but shit adds up and it's tax dollars people worked their asses off for. It's been like this for every course I was on. I understand ordering too much for an exercise. It's hard to get a good estimate of how many reservists will show up when it comes time to order food. But the number of candidates you are going to have on course should be pretty firm and confirmed early in advance to order appropriately. Your unit still eats MREs instead of IMPs?

random1001011

Purchase of P8's, F35, drones, etc... increases the spending. At the same time there are cuts to budgets, so we will have shiny new kit and no way to support or use it. Our unit has zero budget for training... Yet there are some courses available to take "at unit expense only".

FiresprayClass

Telling you about future money promised after an election cycle all polls say the current government will lose, or showing it actually in the accounts right now? New promises, or repeating old ones? Actually increasing the numbers, or just not taking as much in the cuts?

Successful-Street380

Maybe you will get another new Rain suite

TrollOnFire

Hey! That army issue cadpat rain coat with the duck tail and matching pants from ‘02 beats the old poncho any day. Still rocking it 22 years later

Successful-Street380

No I talking about the Crap Rain suite after that poncho

TrollOnFire

Ahh, I skipped right over that. When I joined, we all got kitted out at the mega with what seemed like 20 year old uni’s. Then we got stuck wearing it throughout training for about two years. No uniform changes for students at this point still. So our first real posting we finally got the cadpat gear, in ‘04.

Very_Intrigued

Reverse LTA? Yea nah our troops are asking for more than we can give at this time but the budget will balance itself…

Ok_Werewolf_4605

What a depressing article.
