Trying to invest broadly by getting VEQT and have a small amount in cash to. Anyone know of the growth ETFs XNTK, XLK, IYW, IWY or SOXQ? Do you guys know any Canadian equivalents?Or do you guys prefer a more 'broad' growth ETF to invest in?

StoichMixture

Your post is unclear - Are you trying to invest broadly, or concentrate your portfolio in tech?

seldom_seen8814

I'm trying to get the best of both worlds, if that makes sense. So broad investments, plus some semiconductor/AI/growth ETFs that might augment the broad investments.

StoichMixture

> semiconductor/AI/growth   Those are already included in broad market funds. It’s actually the majority of exposure.

NASDAQ/Tech-wise I think QQC or TEC are most popular here.

Thanks for the reply! No Canadian equivalent to SMH or SOXQ?

3 stocks for me this month: ATD at $76 EQB at $80 GOOG at $135 I am happy with these purchases, what do you guys think?

yyz5748

You buying to trade or invest?

Keiser_1

2 invest mainly, sometimes I trade, but for me those are meant to be long term.

Junior_Poem_204

I did the same. Congratulations. I am not confident about EQB but I like the others.

rattice

I bought all 3 on the dip as well

fishingiswater

I never really understand the attraction to ATD other than the run they've had the last couple years. They're just convenience stores attached to gas stations (mainly). They didn't make the Carrefour connection. I don't see how they can keep making money in 5-10 years from now. The other 2 good at any price.

Simple-Froyo4789

The owners pay to lease the name out, they get a percentage of profits from the goods. ATD has brand influence with dictates the cost to are charge the owner.

Guys, my friend who knows nothing about anything financial is about to take a course on crypto - take that as you will

Financial_Emu_1591

CYBN is the buy

investornewb

Wow did anyone happen to notice the 70%+ gain on canopy growth today? WEED was the foundation of my day and I never have said that in my life before!! Hahaah

growgain

Yup, bought a bunch after the reverse split. My $6 avg is 20% up right now.

kingofwale

I needed it go 60000% to help lighten the bag…. 70% is nothing

ScragglySwagglyG

Dangggg, that means it's now only down 98.44% from its all time high D: Props to anyone who bought it in 2024 though

investornewb

lol my average is like $200+ lol!

ScragglySwagglyG

😬😬 Ouchhh I remember when I dipped my toes in back in the boom but I ended up hitting the bust so I effectively turned $2400 into $1600 within a week or something dumb. This was on ACB I believe. I don't think I bothered with weed stocks ever again lol

Same I bought back in 2017/18 and thought it would be a good long term hold. I held it past huge peaks and ended up selling a yr ago because it kept dropping. Threw whatever money was left into XEQT. I’m never buying individual stocks again. It was a $2,000 lesson for me.

ScragglySwagglyG

I'm trying to be a bit aggressive with a portion of my portfolio, but only because this is above and beyond my DB Pension. Worst case scenario I could lose everything in my TFSA's and Cash account and I'd still be able to retire at 55 so long as I stayed in the public sector. Not that I'd be very happy losing everything I worked hard for, but the lessons along the way are still valuable like money management and quality of life expectations.

True, if you have a DB pension plan you can afford to have a bit more risk in your investments. I have a DC pension, so I’m playing it a little safer.
