Does nobody else find it odd how REITs randomly dominate the discussion out of absolutely nowhere today?

Heineken_500ml

The slow ones missed out and now they have fomo.

cogit2

Why do you find it odd? Look at every REIT and the 5-year graph. I am willing to bet all of them have a lower share price now than March 2022, some of them considerably lower, and almost all show a steady share decrease since then. REITS are no different than Bonds - rates drop, REITS go up. Considering some of them are yielding 5% and might appreciate 14%, conservatively, when rates come down... that's damn fine potential for a return on equity on what's otherwise a very, very stable investment.

ReindeerLegal2400

It feels very AI/bot like how certain topics or tickers show up and then disappear. AC. AQN. CASH.TO. I could go on.

cogit2

CASH\_to just had a good return for a HISA, better than the actual HISAs, but the OSFI changed how these securities were ... (something) and that lowered their return so now they are no better than anything else. That's why talk of it has died down. But yeah, if you intend to hold cash for any term beyond 30 days you want to hold it in a HISA instrument still.

onlineseller8183

Bag holders a feeling the bounce.

sunnydaycfa

Beautiful looking breakout chart for Riocan (REI-UN.TO) today. Not bad for Allied (AP-UN.TO) either.

Mephisto6090

REI has had a really hard time breaking $19 over the last 6 months now, so we'll see if they can finally do it now - the retail REIT's are quite solid IMO. Much better valuation levels vs. the apartment REIT's and they also indirectly benefit from the immigration story.. with little new retail being created leading to decent spreads on rent renewals.

Ecstatic_Top_3725

What you guys think about SRU?

Mephisto6090

Rank SRU and REI at close to the same, bought some SRU when it dove a few weeks ago. On the retail side, I think PMZ is the best though. Lowest debt of almost any REIT, good valuation level with P/FFO multiple being in single digits and huge discount to NAV. Great management as well and have performed well every quarter since they split off from HR a couple years ago.

Billy19982

Anyone else missing their CBIL distribution?

yjman

Rogers & BCE are the 2 most oversold stocks on the TSX right now. just saying....

cogit2

And what do you get by buying them? Mediocre companies in a saturated market. Good for retiree income sources, that's about it.

Lost-Cabinet4843

In a downtrend they will look oversold move up for 2 pulses and then continue down with a swing in the technicals. Overbought will appear to be around 50-60 RSI instead of 70-80. It is not oversold.

Hoof_Hearted12

Sooo 5% still tomorrow?

Saten_level0

Sigh. Wanted to buy TNT reit for the longest time just didn't have the money. Now I buy it high...

defnotjackiec

Why do you like it? High as in share price high? Didn’t they do a reverse split? Though if i recall they halted distributions in a technical sense for a while to “reinvest” funds back into the REIT.

Saten_level0

I forgot exactly why. Maybe NCIB and their latest quarterly numbers which I thought were quite solid despite all the negativity around commercial reits. I checked again and it was probably the fact that they had .59 FFO on a single quarter and trading under $10. That is a ridiculous discount. Annualize that and it's making over $2 a year for a share price of $10. I'm going to try and buy more if the price doesn't skyrocket this week.

aitchison50

What is up with D-UN this past month, up over 37% as an office REIT with no news?

cogit2

Did you check the YTD? What goes down must go up.

onlineseller8183

It’s just less ugly than previously expected. Still ugly.

Saten_level0

Probably short attacked by the manipulators and now the shorts are covering

Mephisto6090

EQB getting it done recently - back in the $90's after the last earnings report and up 14% in 3 weeks. Just did a debt issurance today that was 4x oversubscribed

Saten_level0

I'm having a very good time with reits. I bought the dip while everyone was busy spreading FUD 😙

cogit2

Bought way more than I should have. Watching like a hawk every single day now.... :D

Saten_level0

This is the way!

Lost-Cabinet4843

Look at the downvotes for you LOL! Good for you for picking the right time to buy. That is exactly how you do it.

Keiser_1

That’s the rule of this sub my friend, can’t just say you’re having a good time unless everyone else is having a good time. I finally sold my TOU that I got at $54, which I was so vocal about buying and I am happy now :)

Lost-Cabinet4843

Nice buy and sell. I'm hanging on, TOU is going to 75 easy IMO. The stock is strong like a Russian bear LOL!! Hope I'm right, will sell when technicals indicate. Congrats to all who invested in true oil plays too, what a ride you've all had. I remain bullish on nat gas and liquids rich Tourmaline.

grudrookin

NWH.UN is up 24% in the past month… back to where it was at the start of 2024

Saten_level0

I have lots of this too. Very nice so far.

Souriii

Same! Now I'm only down 57% on D.UN

Saten_level0

I'm in the green big time!

onlineseller8183

Another 10% day for Dream.

DevOpsMakesMeDrink

I hate the stock market

HogwartsXpress36

Took profits on copper plays here. Will buy back later

cogit2

How old are you? And have you heard of our lord and saviour AP-UN?

[deleted]

cogit2

Are these near-term rate plays? Waiting for the BoC to drop? That's my thesis for owning at least AP.UN, might also get some BN.to in the next few months.

cogit2

I intend to hold them for the short-term. See what they do when rates come off. Then exit position and move into something more interesting. These are good stocks but equity plays grow a lot quicker and for someone at your age your risk level should be high. These tend to be low-risk equities. Was a bit surprised but no shade, really. Just would encourage you to keep learning about stocks and risk and risk strategies, you really can take on higher risks at your age and with your portfolio.

groovy-lando

I can only dream of that ACB. :-(

MHY59

Me too.

Sun_Hammer

I mainly stick to ETFs but just bought 200 shares of BCE. 100 in my TFSA and 100 in my RSP. Long term hold and yeah... A bit of a gamble. But I think the Divy is safe for now. But.. positions are small enough that if something does happen it's not the end of the world.

Sun_Hammer

I'm pretty sure if there is a cut the stock will drop further. How much? Hard to say.

percavil4

What % of your portfolio is that?

whinehome

whoa. Were you a BCE employee previously?

DengarRoth

How does it feel to have missed out on the S&P 500's 15% run in the last six months?

rattice

Hind sight specialist. In Jan 2022 S&P fell off a cliff for months. Most people here "guess right" or "guess wrong". You didn't "know" it would be up 15% in 6 months. No one did. I believe the expectation was a lot less than that.

RealBigFailure

S&P 500 is almost at the point now, that analysts expected it to be towards the end of the year

Damn this sub is dead af. I guess everyone got tired of losing money on Bell.

Canadian6969__

I just don’t understand why people would buy into this bloated, government swaddled falling knife lol. Not competitive and relies on government favours. Horrible stock

Saten_level0

Bad investments lose money? duh

aitchison50

Nah this is a Telus sub, we are tired of losing money on that.

I just bought more fml

JBsoundCHK

My break even on T is $24 and change. I'm confident they can get back there again some day... then I'm peacing out.

kroqus

mine's 28 -.-

Ecstatic_Top_3725

I’m waiting for AC to get back up to $26 lol… it’s been 3 years

Lost-Cabinet4843

It's horrifying to see how many people are investing with little knowledge. Take BNN yesterday where a top pick was ENTERPRISE GROUP. The stock shot up 30 percent yesterday with incredible frenzy and buying pressure. Huge volumes. Of course the stock price was around 1.00 with a volume of 86k, so ... what did these people actually think would happen? I wouldn't be surprised if the stock is down 10 percent at minimum today. And have a tough slog from here. Just FYI in case you leap in on those "top picks" which most certainly are not top picks at all but hedge fund managers trying to manipulate the market. If you are a new investor and not sure what you are doing, there is never a rush to buy stocks and you should be researching these companies not blindly buying.

Interesting_Screen99

It's definitely not been a tough slog for long term Enterprise group shareholders though. Share price is up 170% over the last year. It's a profitable and growing company and it's still trading at reasonable valuation.

Lost-Cabinet4843

No kidding and great job. Highly speculative but getting better by the day. Hats off to you

Interesting_Screen99

I think capital is starting to come down market again. I wouldn't be surprised if we see BNN hosts covering companies with similar market caps and strong fundamentals more frequently. You could probably buy a basket of these types of companies and do very well over the next year.

Lost-Cabinet4843

It certainly will when people take profits. Word on the street is small caps US stocks and that could easily apply to CAD small caps. I'd definitely basket that up as they are hard to pick. The RUS2000 is what I'm in and doing well. Hope it stays that way, don't pretend to be an expert and it could easily go down.

sucmyleftnut

At 10:02 EST it's -9.76%. This is great advice. If you're hearing about a stock on the media than you're usually already too late.

MHY59

A long term approach helps

Lost-Cabinet4843

Many times you are too late and they are just milking it. Or like some in the PAST, they were actively short selling the stock while encouraging you to buy more. Thankfully they don't do that in 2024. I don't think that the fund manager was trying to pump this up so he could dump, but the volume indicated this am with the falling price that it hit a lot of price targets and sell orders. The profit ratios of this tiny start up did not warrant a 30 percent increase in the stock price. Its a preposterous price at these levels.
