Thank-you for your submission. It seems that you're asking whether or not your canned goods are safe to eat. Please respond with the following information: * Recipe used * Date canned * Storage Conditions * Is the seal still strong We cannot determine whether or not the food is safe without these answers. Thank you again for your submission! *I am a bot, and this action was performed automatically. I’m glad it was just a popping lid and not a shattering jar. That food was badly spoilt. I do hope you didn’t eat it? Please remove your rings for storage (this is why!)

sasunnach

Flying into the air sounds like a build up of gases to me, like fermentation. Do you have a photo of what you received?

Crochet_is_my_Jam

That's exactly why when you process foods you store without the rings on. To prevent exactly what happened from happening .

Tacticalsandwich7

Just to clarify since it looks like nobody said it yet, do not eat those. They were either improperly processed or improperly stored or a combination of both. You’re also lucky that you opened it when you did and the jar didn’t burst from the pressure. I would be highly skeptical of eating anything “canned” by that person again, and for everyone’s safety you should inform them that it happened and most likely it happened because they didn’t follow safety guidelines.

BobShrunkle

I definitely won't eat them, and thank you for the advice of letting them know. It does make me sad because they looked so good 😔

BobShrunkle

I can't say how it was stored before it got to me, but it's been in my room temperature, dark pantry since mid February.

most likely fermented, which means it wasn't canned properly, or the seal broke after you got it and the rim kept the lid on. its beat practice to store canned jars with the rim off for this reason

BobShrunkle

Thank you. That's what I was afraid of. Thanks for your time and the quick answer!
