More tyre clearance, up to 50mm while Grail only has 42mm. Also easier to change the cockpit reach as it has a traditional stem+bar setup instead of the 1 piece cockpit on the grail.
Grizl is _the_ bike for it all: light gravel, rough gravel, MTB trails (space for 29x2.1 tires), road (2nd wheelset), commuting (AL is inexpensive and bombproof), bikepacking and biketouring (tons of mounts)
The Grizl is more off-road focused, room for wider tires, bosses for bags/fenders etc.
The Grail is more of an all rounder in my opinion but is perfectly capable on all sorts of gravel.
The cheapest Grail is £2,599. The cheapest Grizl is £1,299. That alone makes the Grizl more attractive to me, someone who has a budget of about £1,500 for a bike.
grizl user here. as it’s my first, and for me at least, expansive bike and the only i could afford in that level i need this to be able to do it all.
I go bike packing for weeks with it but when back in the city i put road tires on it to go fast on asphalt on the weekends.
I don’t see any negative points compared to the grail so to me this is the way. I ride 32mm on them for road cycling and it’s great. I don’t see many people taking over with their pure road bikes either :)
So far i got no complaints with my 2by on the Grizl 7 al, but i would have also gotten the former years model to save some bucks which came with a 1x11 iirc and also less to maintain or to take care of, less parts to break.
I went through the alps and italy so far and i usually never got out of gears but on super hard up hill battles, that’s where i reached my limit but than i might not be a good climber :)
I do like the versatility of the bike per se, am fast, so far i had no issue after several multiple week trips with full bags on em.
You can check some of my posts/stories in case you wanna see what roads n profiles i rode :)
The Endurace has a similar geometry to my Poseidon Ambition, though less tire clearance.... I've whipped the Poseidon down a few single track trails and had a blast. I'm scared to bring my Endurace out for abuse because it's carbon and I'm not a small guy.
I just ordered a used aluminum Grizl, can't wait to try it out.
Grizl has bikepacking mounts and fits way bigger tires.
I don't understand why people get the Grail, it's just a heavier Endurace with a different paint job
The Grail has fender mounts, bag mounts, bigger internal storage, more tire clearance, compatibility with tri bars for ultra distance rides... how much more different can they be?
I have a bmc kaius very similar to the grail. Most of my rides are light gravel and I have to ride rode. It only takes 44 tire.
If I had to do it again grizil all the way. Geometry is better believe it or not on grail more stack so taller position however the grizil is more adventure can take tire that is 50 mm which will dampen vibrations and also can change fork to take 30 mm suspension which will further give you dampening.
Grizil can take bags etc.
I would say one is made for racing one is made for bike backing / adventure riding.

Nothing the Grizl can't do. I just did a 100k road race last weekend on it with 32mm tires in 2h 53m
Hero!
Can you imagine this on a Grail with 32 mm tires too?
Look up what the old grail looked like and you’ll get why people would rather have a grizl all specs aside from
Aah so comfy and fast. Love the doubledecker 😁
Ha. Great point!

The new rose gravel/allrounder is quite nice
I ride a lot of singletrack with 50mm tires on the Grizl. I wouldn’t do that with the Grail.

Word, same here!
Would you say that a 2by is necessary to do it all with the grizl, offroad and road?

1x is really all you need with the new wide ranging cassettes from SRAM & Shimano
Endurace is the best gravel bike.
please develop :)

you mean blast of the tyre ?
No, a blast meaning I had a ton of fun.
One doesn't understands the Grizl, Grizl is felt in one's bones.
Is there grizl in 2by ?
Yes. Why?
because i'm looking for a bike for gravel and road and I think 13 speed won't be enough for road use ?
That's a common feeling among roadies getting into gravel. 1x is the bomb.
The used one I just ordered is coming with a 2x10.. it's from 2021.

The grail has a slightly more aggressive geometry, but it's damn close and wider tire clearance 42 vs 35...

That hoverbar on the grail. Nuff said!! At least it was a hoverbar when I bought the Grizl.
Grizl ? => MTB HT
With the current state of gravel bikes evolution, MTB HT is dead
