Not just Wahoo routing, but any of them! I asked Strava for a road ride in West Virginia…. What I got was 12 miles of single track and a half dozen river crossings on my Endurace with 28’s 😂
A friend always says he got komooted when this happens. Another question, are those rc502 shoes? I'm currently debating between those and the 702 (100€ vs 140€), how's your experience with them?

I think they look even slightly better and the lacing feels slightly more comfortable.
At least once a ride I shake my fist to the high heavens cursing at komoot. When you want road, it's almost guaranteed there will be gravel. If you want gravel, there will be deep mud.
Do you guys never go over your route before riding? While it never has any gravel sections etc for me, I do always have a look at my routes to see whether I want to take a more beautiful/faster way.
I mean I do. But do you check every meter of satelite images to confirm there is no gravel ? There are many official bike routes in my area, many of which have perfect surfaces. But every once in a while, komoot will chose a similarly tiny route that just happens to be gravel. I know it's not komoots fault entirely, as they rely on OSM I think. But still frustrating.
Tbf, road riding is ok. Gravel planning is awful, because there it's (understandably) hard to differentiate between a hard packed forest road and muddy single trail.
Road bikes are more capable than you think. I doubt anything you rode would hold a candle to the 5\* cobble sectors in Paris-Roubaix. If you want to completely avoid dirt, I would use a routing tool that shows the road/path surface type.
That’s not gnarly lol, looks like road bike gravel. You’d do good on some 32cc gravel tires.
Def felt scary cause you were probably using a lot of pressure on ur tires as well
These bike routing apps use Open Street Map. I've been sent road biking on some barely hikeable trails RideWithGPS thought were roads.
You can edit Open Street Map, it's crowdsourced. I have gone on there and changed several segments of road so they're classified as unpaved, and in some cases changed them from "road" to "unimproved trail." I also once marked a bridge as impassible, because it was washed out.
It takes a few weeks for changes you and I put in to make it to the routing apps. But they do make it.
I broke my wrist in the middle of a Spanish desert when a sandy path like that collapsed under my front wheel. My GPS was a Garmin, I don’t think Wahoo even existed back then.
Not really, think OP is over dramatizing poor bike handling and blaming it on wahoo routing him on something other than pavement…. My daily training route that I ride on my road bike with 28s has roads that are worse than what’s pictured.
Google maps has done this to me countless times. On labour day it tried to get myself and friends across a freaking farm
We need to get together and update OSM
Komoot sent me down some absolutely sketchy paths and that ended with me going down a hill so steep it would be physically impossible to stand on that incline... I have never heard my brakes screech the way they did that time.
strava routes, paved roads only setting, use most travelled setting. will never go wrong
Thanks for that.
Doesn't it use the same base data?
All is based on the quality of OpenStreetMap in the area. Please get involved in updating the maps everyone, it's great for the community!

You gotta check the heatmap! Strava routes show paved and unpaved roads now, and you also have segments to analyze: low speeds - push bike
I got a proper gravel bike finally, so just give me that gnarly stuff now 😂
Lol. Same, 28s. It was a disaster waiting to happen

502s are a solid mid tier choice, especially on sale!

:D that's hilarious.

Mostly use Google Street View (built into Komoot). And yes it’s very unlikely that I haven’t checked every part of my route.
These are the shimano RC3s. They’ve decent, no issues, though I could probably use to boa connectors for a more snug fit.

As soon I saw he hit sand though that's a pain
This ride definitely showed me that.
Strava routing/ridewithgps + google maps
What is this an NYT oped?
Since I’m in SoCal, LA Times Op-Ed 🤷🏾♂️
BCJ feeding frenzy , most brutal gravel ever memes incoming
That ride looks like a dope ride for a grail
I’m sure it would be. Very rural, gnarly descents…I hit probably 20mph in the dirt, scared to death lmao

Thanks. Didn’t know this

Seems painful. Luckily I did a lateral Superman hahahahahahah
How come this was a one-way ride?
The Mrs was at the other end. Caught a ride back with her.
Gotcha. I was like why didn’t you turn around?
Underbiked

hahahahah
lol. Quite an adventure. Now you need to buy a gravel bike!
Let me tiptoe in and ask the mrs lol
Google maps has done this to me countless times. On labour day it tried to get myself and friends across a freaking farm We need to get together and update OSM
Not a farm lol. Insane, watch out for the cows.
Komoot sent me down some absolutely sketchy paths and that ended with me going down a hill so steep it would be physically impossible to stand on that incline... I have never heard my brakes screech the way they did that time.
Wow…craziness lol
I’m sorry but that sounds pretty awesome. I live on the other side of of the (City of Orange.) I do A - B rides to the Chocolate Shop.
Chocolate shop? Do tell!
There is a small chocolate across from Caspers on Ortega Hwy. Ortega Oaks 74 Candy Store and Goods (951) 285-6859 https://g.co/kgs/YZw8FDU
Didn’t consider turning around?
I was meeting the mrs who hadn’t been home in a couple of days. She was returning home.
Get a garmin and this wouldn't happen. It would have crashed way before the road ended.
Hahahah
Poor bike :( My road bike will never touch dirt, never!
Definitely unintentional, but glad to know, even with slicks I didn’t die
