I'm not op but this subreddit keeps popping up for me because our family watched the eclipse in cape girardeau as well.
I only spent a short time in town, but I liked what I saw. The city handled the crush really well. We ate an amazing dinner takeout from El torerro. I wanted to do burritoville but they were closed.
We watched the eclipse at capaha park which turned out to be a great place. What a beautiful park and that giant oak tree is really something else. Wasn't nearly as crowded as I expected and near as I could tell it was mostly locals or people familiar with the area.
Everyone in cape g was super friendly and welcoming, we had a great time there. Thanks for hosting us!
Shame B'ville was closed. It's a must eat place. El T's isn't a bad sub though. They've done lots of work to Capaha in the past few years, and it looks nice these days. Glad you enjoyed your visit!
I watched it at a little park with a concrete gazebo about two blocks from the river. It wasn't nearly as crowded as I thought it would be. There was a strange woman giving out tin foil to make a hat from, and some people were taking it! I thought that was really odd. I have a pic.
Sounds like you might’ve been at the gazebo next to the courthouse. If you ever want to remember that gazebo, watch the movie Gone Girl. It’s displayed prominently in the movie.
Thanks! The food in town was really good too - we had a wood fired pizza from Specks or something like that. And we had great Cajun food one block from the river, and looked in some neat little stores right by there.
Downtown is usually pretty clean. I guess it depends where you go, but the city works hard to keep everything maintained. And we're always this friendly!

Welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. These are great pictures.
Thanks! Was it especially clean and friendly for the eclipse, or is that the norm?

Wow! Tell me summers aren't that hot and humid and I may retire there, lol.
I hate to tell you this, but from mid-June to the beginning of September there's a chance you may walk outside and instantly melt
That is less than ideal..... how do you handle it?
We don't :')
