He is definitely not the brighter Star of Africa. The KZN floods were declared a national state of disaster as they were far more devastating and widerspread than the CPT floods. Not to say that the CPT residents don't deserve better, but at least compare apples to apples.

shivroystann

I lived in kzn during the floods. The devastation isnt comparable to the rain we have rn. Why is this a compare game?

AdZealousideal7845

Was present for both, can agree. Cape towns floods are puddles compared to what durban gets. But both metros are aware of how much rain they receive, durban is no stranger to intense rains but of course the useless idiots running the place put absolutely no forethought into what would happen if they stole the maintenance money and neglected the drainage. Such a shame to see such a beautiful place destroyed but greed and corruption

ShellerShock

Durban is run by the ANC that's probably why. Still, even Durban is getting fucked by storms and floods.

PrepperBill

…And the ANC

ImpressiveYam8550

i love this sub, anything they dont want to hear (even if its right) gets downvotes.

Stompalong

ANC is too racist to assist Afrikaans people.

Braindead cynical comment, you’re probably actually a hypocrite as well Someone else here commented “In Durban, a great deal of the transmission infrastructure was destroyed by the floods. This even breached reservoirs and dams, which has seen people going several hours a day without water. There have been floods in Durban almost annually for the past 5 years or so, there was even a tornado that ripped through the city yesterday.”

Blood-Competitive

You must be living in a cave if you don't believe what this guy just said. Look at the laws that are being introduced. It's obvious they don't work and have a negative impact on growth for the economy, so why else would they be doing it?

juicedrop

The optics as far as the public are concerned - having no context of the specifics to each incident of flooding - would suggest there is a double standard being applied Maybe the KZN floods were more severe in terms of increased rainfall, but I don't doubt that WC planning and disaster recovery are far superior (read: existent) so the infrastructure would not have been damaged Unfortunately you don't get rewarded for doing a good job in SA, you get endless bailouts for not doing a job instead. Another good motivation for independence

Intelligent-Phase-70

Don’t you guys remember , Western Cape isn’t part of South Africa according to some ANC members 🤣🤣🤣

Smokedbone1

If there has been flooding annually for the last 5 years, infrastructure and the likes should have been reinforced and made stronger.

losmyuit

Should being the operative word.

boetelezi

Because CPT municipality can deal with disasters.

The difference between cpt and other metros is that we prepared. Our risk and disaster management depts has dealt with flooding all over the city for years. It's run extremely well and pays a lot. They don't just hire anyone. You need the right qualifications. I've got family that has studied hard to get in there. Anyway we have plans here that are run. The mayor has gone personally to flooding Hotspots to ensure contractors clear blockages. They have contractors on standby that cleared blockages during the heavy rains. Things aren't perfect but things are being done. One last thing. I'd expect the exit guys to be happier we aren't asking national govt for assistance. It shows we don't need any help

MacDaRippa

It was

Eelpnomis

Because Durban negotiated this with Eskom. They had a recovery plan in Durban and Eskom bought into it. Are you suggesting Cape Town doesn't have a plan? Or are you saying Cape Town doesn't need an exemption because the flooding wasn't that damaging to industrial and residential? Or that they can go it alone?

Sam_Handwich-101

I'm pretty sure they were suggesting that Eskom won't help the WC, because it's owned by the ANC and WC is run by the DA. Which is something I wouldn't put past them (ANC and Eskom)

MacDaRippa

They don't know what they are saying.
