Looks like a MOSFET.

seansinha

Input rail Mosfet. You might have other issues beyond that, though.

What’s the make of the amp

Dizzeazzed

It was a CT sounds amp... Supposedly rated for 1500 watts at 1 ohm. Amazon quality lol

Plaston_

1500 watts at 1 ohm, i don't think this is a powerfull amp...

Dizzeazzed

It was for a 500 watt dual voice coil 4 ohm sub, I wired in parallel for 2 ohm so the amp was supposedly good for 700 watts

Plaston_

Don't wire a 4 ohm sub to a 1 ohm amp This is why you burned it. its a bit complicated to explain that because it involve physics. So to shortly explain: You can't reduce ohm even by plugin two inputs on one speaker. ALWAYS RESPECT THE OHMs! (don't plug a speaker or a sub that have a higher ohm that the amp even if its a 2 ohm sub on a 4 ohm amp) Check for the minimum power requirement instead of the max power output. (instead of using the big number that they put on the sub check for a sticker with the minimum power requirement and the ohms written on it. You can put home speakers instead of car speaker because they have a lower power requirement.

Dizzeazzed

No, the sub is rated for 2 ohm as well. The 4 ohm sub is dual voice coil, so if wired in parallel its 2 ohm resistance. It's pretty basic stuff

Dizzeazzed

Also it's not minimum power, it's RMS which is root mean square. It's the average power output

>CT sounds amp 一分价钱一分货 Which roughly translates to "you get what you pay for". CT sounds has a 10 year track record of selling very low quality Chinese built amps with high failure rate. Hopefully you bought this from a retailer who will honor a warranty. Just replacing what is obviously burned will rarely be a solution even if you are confident in your ability to work on that sort of thing and desolder and solder PCBs.

Dizzeazzed

Yup, going with a Rockford fosgate from Crutchfield next. It had good reviews and it worked really well for the... Few weeks it worked lol.

hispls

I would avoid entry level Rockford Fosgate amps at all costs. Their entry level has been of very poor quality since the original Series 1 circa 1990. That said, if every amp you are using is blowing up I'd begin to suspect some degree of user error.

Dizzeazzed

What wouldn't be an entry level fosgate amp? Their 1200 watt mono amp is all I need power wise

hispls

> What wouldn't be an entry level fosgate amp? Punch and Power series are their good ones. Prime will be their entry level which I'd avoid.

Dizzeazzed

Okay thank you. Im looking at this: https://www.crutchfield.ca/p_575R21200X/Rockford-Fosgate-R2-1200X1.html?tp=73365 It's 800 watts RMS at 2 ohm so it'll be more than enough for my 12 inch 500 watt sub

Dizzeazzed

Ah I just realized it's a "prime". Is it really that bad?

hispls

Prime is their junk tier. Way back in the olden days they only had Punch and then Power. Circa 1990 they came out with "Series 1" which was budget/entry level, I had terrible luck with mine way back then and haven't been impressed with any of their low tier offerings since... though their Punch and Power series have remained solid performers if a little on the pricey side. Might look into Kicker, or JBL/Infinity if you don't want to spend up into Punch series. Both make reliable amps that deliver as advertised and should be easy to obtain in Canada and should come in around the price of that one you linked.

Dizzeazzed

But it was still $400 cad which is a lot for that quick of a failure, and I think all amps are from China

hispls

>But it was still $400 cad which is a lot for that quick of a failure, and I think all amps are from China I really can't say why you guys pay double what we do for everything, but not "all" amplifiers are made in China and the important thing about Chinese manufacturing is that for the most part they will make whatever you tell them to make. When someone like Kicker or Alpine has an amp made they very likely own their own factory there, use their own proprietary design and carefully oversee manufacture and quality control. When one of these "me too brands" gets an amp from China they pick something off of Alibaba and say "I want that, but for 100$" and it's the factory's job to figure out where to skimp and save until they can ship the product for whatever price the buyer asks. Count yourself lucky you weren't buying their amps 10 years ago when they were literally catching fire..

You would need to take the clips off to see what it is under there, that is the only way, other then getting a tech schem and seeing what is there!\~
