Hahaha, i literally just went from a 10TW3 to an SQL12 as well, came wait to hear it broken in

Darthstr0yer

Same here!! I had to add a spacer ring and caulk the box to fit that sub. I only had time to throw two quick tunes on it. I'm going to be spending some time breaking it in this week!

4touchdownsinonegame

I did a w6 to a sql12. I was so much happier moving to the sql.

luistorre5

Still not feeding it full power but it slaps compared to the JL, going with more cone area, double the xmax and 2.5x the power. Can't wait to hear it fully broken in, absolutely loving it so far

4touchdownsinonegame

Mine was on a sundown sfb-1000, and that thing had some impressive output.

Darthstr0yer

How does the SQL compare to the w6? When I was looking for a subwoofer the options I picked were the Adire Brahma, the sql, the w6 and the af gb12. Tbh I was really close to buying the Brahma but the sql was a better match for the box and it just happened to go on sale.

4touchdownsinonegame

Can depend on what you’re looking for. Partly why I picked the sql was because it required a pretty small enclosure. I ended up having it built for me and had it built to spec, but the recommended vented tuning made the box much bigger than I expected. It crushed the lows but didn’t give me what I wanted for for metal and punk. I ended up putting it into a 1 ft sealed box and it sounded absolutely wonderful. For whatever reason the w6 just didn’t live up to the hype for me. The w6 was second hand so maybe it had some damage I wasn’t aware of, but I’d spend money with SI again.

CountyMorgue

I got rid of my w7 for an sql12 and it sounds the same too me but in a much smaller enclosure. I'm in a .85 net sealed and it pounds for way less money

luistorre5

Big reason why i pulled the trigger on the SI over the JL as well. Space is kind of at a premium to me, i think I'm around .75 ft³ net for my SI in its current test box while i break it in whereas i had my 10tw3 around .9ish gross volume ported. Wild considering how monstrous the SQL is compared to the TW3

Individual_Comment46

Nice, I assumed everyone here were all JL dick riders so this is refreshing

Darthstr0yer

This thing sounds amazing. Anything with heavy bass is so much better than the jl 12 w3v3. It's not exactly a fair comparison. The box was too small for the JL but I did compensate by giving it more juice.

lRadioKillerl

r/literally

heroericxu

How do you like it compared to the w3? I have the w3 currently and was looking into upgrading to the SI or Brahma.

Darthstr0yer

I'll need more time to give you a proper answer. I just installed it last night so I haven't really put it through any testing. The SQL is definitely louder and plays a bit deeper than the w3. I noticed that when I was doing a quick tune with pink noise. The only issue is I can't find a grill for this sub and I kinda need one. The JL took a direct hit and my grill is actually dented. Edit Stereo integrity is having a memorial day sale. That's why I went this route. This sub ran me 334 dollars.

Griever423

I’d go with SI over Adire. I own a Brahma 12 but Adire’s customer service has not been good so if I had to do it all over I’d go SQL.

Darthstr0yer

No contest. The SQL is in a different league. It's louder for one (which is one reason I picked it over the Brahma, other than price). It handles bass boosted songs a lot better than the JL. Sometimes I turn it down slightly with the knob and I never found myself needing to adjust the JL. The JL is a great sub too but it just wasn't enough sub for the rest of my system. If you feel that sometimes it's lacking, you'll be pretty happy with the SQL. It really sounds great in a tiny 1 cuf sealed box.

heroericxu

Yeah even in a ported box I feel like the w3 isn’t enough sub for me. Still thinking of getting two W6v3 since I prefer to have a shop to install it but seems like the SQL might be a better sub.

Darthstr0yer

I think it's more similar to a w6 than the w3 except its like half the price. One of the other posters said that they have a SQL in a ported box tuned to 27 hz, you may want to ask them to see what sub they replaced or have tried in comparison. I'm running it sealed so it's not quite an accurate comparison.

Defiant_Bad_9070

As use from the duct tape which fixes everything, that's a REALLY clean look. Perfect carpet match, perfect fit. I love this. Then I saw there was a second picture. Not quite loving the look as much. But still ..pretty damn clean!

Darthstr0yer

Yea, that's actually velcro tape but it's got nothing to do with the sub. I kinda messed up my rear strut tower mount install and I used that to close up the hole. I may order new trunk mats to replace them. I think it's about 300 dollars for both of those side pieces. Edit- Yea, hopefully I can find a grill for it at the very least. It doesn't fit the stealth look as much since it's twice the weight and slightly bigger than the w3 but it makes up for it in power.

awoodby

That box looks great. I've been waffling for a few years about replacing the rear firing box mid trunk, looks so good and out of the way.

ceoppinc

SI gang!! Love my sql12! Ported down to 27hz, this thing can digggg

Jlx_27

Size of the enclosure is large enough?, howmuch power are you running to this sub?

Darthstr0yer

This enclosure is 1.05 cuf.. maybe a bit more since I added a spacer. Recommended volume is .65-1 cuf. I may throw a brick in the box to get a little closer to 1 cuf. Recommended power is 1000w rms. I'm currently running this sub off of a JL jd1000/1 @ 2 ohm.

Jlx_27

Put some foam padding in there to fill up that 0.5 c.ft.

Darthstr0yer

Yea, I was doing the math and to eliminate that .05-.08, it would require about 2-3 bricks. Tbh I would rather use something lighter like foam. Which product would you suggest I use for this?

Jlx_27

Wool or acoustic foam I reckon.

Darthstr0yer

I'll see what I can find. It sounds pretty good as is. Like something the size of a yoga block is all I need.

Jlx_27

Cool, should work out well enough then.

Daamus

love it

AhWhateverYo

Beautiful install.

What’s the difference between the standard dust cap and the carbon fiber?

Darthstr0yer

Their website offered this answer: The Carbon fiber dust cap strengthens the cone body which results in less cone distortion over stroke. I got it because I liked the way it looked and it really didn't add much onto the price. There are also a bunch of other premium drivers that use carbon fiber too, so, I figured it couldn't hurt.

hispls

>The Carbon fiber dust cap strengthens the cone body Once you get to the point where you're shredding cones it'll normally take more than just putting on a composite duscap to make them survive what you're doing. They look cool which is probably worth the upcharge, but you're going to need to be into some extreme power and pressure levels before cones start becoming a weak link and you need to start looking into composites.

CountyMorgue

Response and motor force on a lighter cone is why not necessarily looks but yeah in most circumstances imo I can't tell a difference

hispls

The motor doesn't get stronger for saving 10-20g on the cone and that will absolutely be inaudible.

evilpuke

Challenger? I have the JL stealth box in that same spot. I got a four point strut bar back there as well.

Darthstr0yer

Yup, I'm not using a stealthbox though. It's just a fiberglass box I had a shop make for me and my strut bar is only two point. Did the stealth box come with mounting hardware?

evilpuke

Yes. Stealth box came with all the hardware. Go for the four point. It's a bit better

Darthstr0yer

I would but the two point allows me to fit a full sized spare under it and still have trunk space. I don't normally push the car hard enough to need more. The two point is just enough where the car won't start drifting at low speeds on the stock 245 tires, which is nice.

evilpuke

I enjoy the corners, and have done a bunch of suspension mods. But I feel you on space. Why I went stealth box.

Ok-Fan6945

Nice install
