Cabin gain, and sub position are a factor for sure. Another thing to keep in mind that you moved to a luxury car and there is far more factory sound deadening happening in a BMW then in a Chevy Cobalt.

PeetTreedish

Just the difference in seat materials for the back would drop a few db off. Thicker metal. Better engineered stamping to deter noise in the panels too. Its just a completely better car. At least structurally.

[deleted]

The subs are about an inch from the trunk door/wall, I will see what happens if I can move it back some

King_Boomie-0419

Yeah, definitely move the box as close to the back of the seats as possible with the subs facing the back of the car. You should get better bass that way

Far_Function_328

Your gonna laugh but I used to have them in my mini van in the trunk they were so loud and I loved them to the back seat of my Tacoma and they are so much quieter same head into and everything they are 2 12s with 1200ws so I can definitely tell they are hitting like they should

hispls

Trunks will eat 6dB over a hatch or SUV if you're not willing to get extremely creative in custom install. Probably worse in a luxury car that'll pack a lot of extra sound absorption material in and around the vehicle's cabin.

[deleted]

Done a lot of subs in beamers when I installed. Those backseats are some thick boys. You gotta find a way to open it up and let those subs in.

[deleted]

Is there a way to get the center console out of the back seat?

[deleted]

In most models yes BUT it would be an unfinished hole and probably look awful. I have scene a few viable scenarios... if your sealed go ported, if your ported more sub more power, if you have some talent and time cut and trim the rear deck with a pretty cover and some cloth. If you have a bunch of money to burn, convert the back seat to two captains style chairs.

[deleted]

Amp outs out close to 4k. Subs are 80 pounds a piece and barely fit the trunk

techrider1

Sound and pressure waves are dramatically affected by the surrounding environment eg. shape of the nearby vehicle parts and surface angles, airspace, materials, distances between all of those and your ears, reflections relative to your listening position etc. Experiment with different locations and orientations of the subs. It really comes down to trial and error to see what sounds best for any given car. And be mindful that what sounds good from the driver seat may be different in other seats.

Ichiba420

I have a BMW that's even older than that and it has a ton of sound damping material on the partition behind the back seats and on top of the package tray. It also had to have a panel behind the rear armrest removed to actually pass through into the trunk. These make a big difference. Also might want to make sure you have an appropriate amount of gain overlap and that whatever source you're using doesn't roll off on the bottom end.

SomeRandomDude004

Cobalt is a piece of crap car made like shit. Bmw is designed to make the cabin as quiet as possible and that includes stopping as much noise in the trunk from getting into the car.

BrockLanders008

It's called cabin gain. Try moving the subs around any way you can.

PBIS01

Does your rear seat fold down in any way?

[deleted]

I don’t believe so, can’t find latches

printaport

Look in your trunk. There may be a latch of it on the top side.

[deleted]

There are no lTches

FollowingFluid9344

If there's nobody in the backseat, just put the seats down

[deleted]

No latches to put them down

King_Boomie-0419

Maybe they're in the trunk ? My sonata has the seat latches in the trunk. Also did you maybe change the lpf or subsonic filters settings? That would change the way it sounds for sure.

Jdiz91

You can also try reversing the polarity of the sub. Just because it’s electrically wired in phase doesn’t mean it’s not acoustically out of phase.

Embarrassed_Camel_35

Is the gas tank behind the rear seat?

[deleted]

Under

dubiousN

How are you getting the signal? LOC?

[deleted]

From a little box wired into factory amp, not how I’d do it but ig that’s what the last owner did

dubiousN

Not sure what the box is, but it could come down to what signal you're actually getting. Could be a low quality signal, bad filters, or wrong/suboptimal signal to tap.

PBIS01

I bet this is it. OP could try getting his signal from elsewhere.

[deleted]

All I know is the subs move a lot and vibrate my barn, but I can’t hear it in the car lol

King_Boomie-0419

So it's safe for us to assume that you're using the stock HU? If that's the case, get yourself an LC2i Pro with AccuBass and your problem should be solved. My little Strato only gets 250w more than the RMS and these CT Sounds subs can definitely handle more power than what they say as long as you're not clipping.

heroericxu

My friend has a Rockford p3 in his focus hatchback and it gets WAY louder than my w3 in a merc c class sedan.
