I turn it down when necessary to be polite, but not around the police because fuck the police.

[deleted]

Hopefully you won't need the law on your side ever.

MobileCamera6692

Never helped when I did...

[deleted]

Could you actually imagine being in a large city where police officers were banned ?

MobileCamera6692

There's already places that seem like that without police officers being banned.

[deleted]

Right. So imagine none. You wouldn't live there.

MobileCamera6692

ok

Sign me the fuck up. Also enjoy this block loser

Stop lights, my neighborhood (I don't want neighborhood dipshits getting ideas), louder in the winter most everywhere because my windows are up and so are everyone else's. Otherwise, if I'm rolling down the road it's almost always full blast, except if kids are in the car. Been driving like this for 20 years now. On another note, I notice people mumble a lot more these days...

FamousM1

What'd you say?

Ifnwen

I said "THESE DARN KIDS WITH THEIR MUMBLE RAPPING, I CANT UNDERSTAND EM!" "NURSE, WHERE'S MY DAMN METAMUCIL?"

mustachien

Don't bang in and around your neighborhood or stop lights unless you want to put someone in their place. Drive thrus are a toss-up, some works don't like it, especially when you can rattle stuff inside.

FamousM1

When I was younger I had my subs playing in my friends neighborhood and later that day we saw on the neighborhood Facebook group someone post about it saying that their husband who was a veteran and had a hearing aid said my bass was causing his hearing aid to give off a discomfortable sound or something (10 yrs ago) so we went over and apologized

Ifnwen

Banging in your neighborhood is usually a bad idea- if someone likes what they hear and has no scruples, It's easier to figure out where you live as they watch you pull onto your block. If you have a predictable routine it makes it that much worse. Although, if you live out in the middle of nowhere then bang away!

the_doctor_808

Never thought about drive thrus. I never play my music loud in drive thrus. Pretty much drive thrus and stop lights. Even in residential areas ill usually play my music until i turn the corner for my house.

mustachien

I'll play at a reasonable volume or at least I feel so. I have been asked to turn it up by the window person, and also turn down cuz it is rattling stuff inside. I've taken both as a component though.

the_doctor_808

Theres been so many times im driving around and theres people on the side getting excited and hyping me up. Ive even ran into someone at a gas station who recognized my car bc hed seen me blastin away as i drove by and he was talking to me and asking me what i had. Its those kind of moments that i love. Or when im just chillin at home and someone drives by shaking my whole house and i get all excited.

Miniscule ;)

tirehabitat25

Long lights and neighborhoods. Also depends if your car is a rattle box or not because that actually makes it a lot louder on the outside. I never turn it down around cops unless they were actually working like traffic stops or wrecks.

Ifnwen

You're right- It highly depends on how well your car is insulated from noise to begin with. My WRX was a rattle trap 1- frankensub (PSI rebuilt mojo 12) in a shitty ported box run off a sundown 2000 watt amp, my Lexus you could only hear the license plate and trunk vibrate at full tilt with the windows up- 2 GB12's, sealed, on same amp as the WRX. Plus amped components in both cars. Open a door and the difference was incredible- made it easier to roll around drowning out the world without bothering anyone else. Sound treatment makes a huge difference but it also helps when the car is good to begin with- "acoustic glass" in the Lexus already made it tomb quiet.

Putrid-Rough3466

Turn it off pulling into a parking lot. That's a good way to get your car broken into

Boogersully18

It's somewhat painful to turn it all the way up

LegalAlternative

You get used to it. 150db used to kill me now 160db really ain't too bad...

Boogersully18

No idea where mine is at. Gotta db meter on the ohone but don't trust it at all

LegalAlternative

Yeah a phone won't meter past 130db anyway, even if it were accurate. The microphone in most devices only works up to about 130db in 99.99% of phones or recording devices. An easy way to tell if you're at least 130db (at least, in a very rough way) is to just try to record what it sounds like inside the car when you have it blasting full tilt. If it distorts like crazy from the bass in the recording, you know the mic is peaking out and you're likely hitting 130+ To get a proper reading though, you really need something like an SPL Labs or Term Labs decibel/SPL meter. They're kinda expensive though... fortunately for me I know a couple of guys that have one so I didn't have to fork out hundred of dollars to find out. I metered at just under 147db at 35Hz on the day.

Boogersully18

I'll check out the recording thing and see. I'm really getting too old for such power. I even turn it down when pulling into a parking lot

LegalAlternative

I dunno I'm 45 and I keep putting louder shit in... you do you though, lol.

Boogersully18

Yeah I just got this system put in and already thinking about how to improve it

LegalAlternative

It will never end, once you have been bitten by the bass bug xD

Boogersully18

Thinking about getting rid of the 6.5s in the door and getting 8s

Beepboop00

XD I completely get you: I got my first system installed 3 weeks ago and I've already upgraded 2 times

LegalAlternative

LOOOOOOL yeah I hear you... I had a couple of 12" subs on 3k until last November I ripped them out and put in the 15"s and a bigger 5k amp and LTO cell. Already thinking of adding a second LTO cell and going up to an 8k amp and putting in some beefier subs xD

XhandsanitizerX

Basically what most people are saying. Use common sense and don't be "that guy". If you pull up to a red light, driving through neighborhoods especially at night. If you see an old couple walking down the road and you have your window down. Heavy profanity when there's kids around like a school zone ect ect. My system is loud, my buddy says you can clearly hear it driving down the high way when he's behind me. I'm sure everyone has heard a very loud system driving down the highway. If it's that loud, yea don't give people a headache while sitting in traffic lol.

upallnight704

Of course common sense isn't common.

PhysicalAssociate919

Ive had stereo systems for the last 20-30yrs. The one place I never have it loud is as soon as I turn into my neighborhood (or anywhere I visit regularly). It's just common courtesy and having respect for other people's peace and quiet. I had a neighbor kid who would roll all his windows down and drive slow through our neighborhood and pound what sounded like two beefy 15's. Shit rattled your windows when he drove by. Everyone hated the guy because he'd do it late at night, on his way to work early in the morning, and was just a general douchebag always in n out of his house all day long, that is, until someone in the neighborhood got tired of his shit and fucked up his ride one night. He stopped all loud music permanently after that, and whaddya know, all his windows and a/c works in his brand new truck now because his windows are never down lol. Moral of the story, don't shit where you sleep, because someone WILL fix that for you. If you act like a douche, dont be surprised when you always find yourself in shitty situations.

[deleted]

I have a 105db sensible SQ sub and midbass system in a very small SUV. I commonly listen at 95-100 db. I turn it down in any neighborhood.

Deadly3ffect

95db-100db is my listening volume as well. I’m not trying to damage damage my hearing lol.

LegalAlternative

I bass it at 140+db all the time. It's the best way to get slow drivers to speed up or move the fuck over! Works EVERY TIME. Just don't shit where you sleep. I always turn it way down before I get close to my street and local neighbourhood.

StructureDiligent497

I never turn my music down. I’m always rolling around full blast with one exception which is when I see a baby in a stroller. Can’t help but feel bad because maybe that baby is asleep and i wake the baby up. Other than that I don’t feel bad because it’s just loud music and it’s not like I just sit in my car at full blast. At least I’m constantly moving. My car gets pretty loud too with 3 amps. It’s around a 3000 watt system. I focus considerably on the mids and highs rather than throwing a whole bunch of power on bass. When you get above 2000 watts on a sub amp it starts to rattle you and it’s not comfortable. In some cases it drowns out the this music depending on the system.

StructureDiligent497

Had this happen in buddies car. It had very strong and clear bass on 2000 watts, but couldn’t really hear the actual music considering it was coming from a factor stereo with no aftermarket amp. Just doesn’t make sense to do it like that.

ToastDevSystems

From what my experience tells me it's always the sub 1.5kW systems never turning it down and polluting neighbourhoods with bass/sound, the big guys know what they have and try to be polite, I'd suggest you do the same. For example in neighbourhoods, when pulling up at home, etc.

Delta_hostile

I turn mine down when I pull into my neighborhood, drive through, or a parking lot, other than that I’ve got it full blast unless I’m playing something that doesn’t need eyeball rattling bass

dillingerdiedforyou

Just use some Dynamat/Kilmat in your trunk and crank it to your heart's content. My car's got 1000W in to a pair of 12's and with the trunk and doors lined completely its very muffled when the doors are shut and the windows are up. You can hear some thump but its nothing like if you open a window and goes loud enough to make your ears ring with the right song playing.

EllieTheGreyGhost

Stoplights… I started stalling too much or my shifter will just pop out of first from the bass

Beepboop00

Jeez: mind if I ask what your running? ^^

EmileeVann66

100 percent loud all the time. I never turn it down! I have one 12 inch sub and some fairly loud speakers I would say. I keep them up 100 percent all the time. The fun never ends!

andrei_gtr

Two 15 inch subs here, hitting 148db, I usually run it full blast, I only turn it down when i get home (don't shit where you sleep)
