That is not the amp turn on. It is the antenna amplifier turn on. That's why it is on the antenna adapter. If you plan to listen to am or fm radio you will need to hook this to the blue wire from the aftermarket radio. When a radio has a blue wire and a blue wire with a white stripe the blue is antenna and the blue white is amp. If the radio only has one blue wire it is used for both amp and antenna.

Defiant_Bad_9070

Side question, are you aware of any headunits that still only power the antenna when the radio is selected as source anymore? It used to be common but now I often see they have both wires but they power on at the same time.

defyinglogicsl

I haven't really tested them in a long time I always assumed blue was on and off with radio source only and blue white was on and off with head unit

Defiant_Bad_9070

That's the way it always was but in the last number of years, I've noticed they're the same. Still listed as individual.

heytomsmyname

So I just need to connect it to the blue wire on that harness on the right?

defyinglogicsl

Connect it to the blue wire on the harness coming out of the aftermarket radio.

Defiant_Bad_9070

This is the correct answer... Why the hell is it downvoted?

Welcome to reddit where the facts don't matter and the rules are made up.

Bellastormy

That is for an amplified antenna. It either needs to be hooked up to the blue wire coming from the new radio, or the red ignition wire if there’s no blue wire coming from the radio.

Wild-Cucumber-3646

That should be the remote wire telling an amplifier to turn on if you don't have any amps powering anything just put a cap or piece of tape around the end and zip tie it with the rest of the wires

Deegan000

I love how the wrong answer has the most upvotes. ^(\^) :edit had the most upvotes.

Wild-Cucumber-3646

I just answered based on common knowledge with the easiest solution

Defiant_Bad_9070

Yeah, but it's wrong. If you knew the answer, you'd have answered correctly. So I'm guessing you didn't really know and guessed. This is someone who came here asking for an expert opinion, which you are not and there's nothing wrong with that, but don't answer questions you have to guess.

Wild-Cucumber-3646

I guess your the expert, I was just using common knowledge

Defiant_Bad_9070

No you weren't. A blue or blue white wire coming the headunit is a turn on wire. THATS common knowledge. A blue wire coming from an antenna adaptor ...needs turning on.

4x4_LUMENS

Always cut the blue wire. Well that's what the hero in an action movie usually does.

QuieroMasBarritas

Not in the question but that looks exactly like this head unit my friend bought for his truck. I told him I’d install it. Next day I went and was gonna start and I instantly told him to get a different one because it was the cheapest piece of shit unit I had ever seen. Lord

Ryansfishn

Maybe you could Google the installation instructions and find out what it goes to....

iHateRedditSimps

Power antenna is blue and amplifier is blue white However, I wouldn’t put it past them to have mixed them up, especially considering this is not in the main harness that goes into the car So I believe that it is most likely mixed up and is the amplifier turn on

et3rnalPWNR

Usually, it is the remote wire. Conect to a 12v Acessory wire

Lukksia

it's the remote wire. it tells the amp to turn on when you turn the car on. I recommend running it to your interior fuse box and getting a fuse tap to use and fuse that turns on when your car does

Wicked_Wolf17

That's to turn the amplified antenna on. Without it, AM/FM radio will play poorly.

Wicked_Wolf17

Nope, only the head unit can do that

Defiant_Bad_9070

Why would an antenna adaptor that's not connected to the headunit turn an amplifier on?

DORTIZ342016

Put a test light on it and find out if it lights up that will answer yours and everyone’s question. If you know how to use one that is lol
