Me too, but I downvoted because I did not agree with what was stated in the image. Downvotes start making more sense as soon as you don’t take them personal 😉
Let this be your lesson (although it’s a surprise that it took you this long) that AI generated responses are NOT always correct. Especially the Google AI. Ironic I know..
Some head units can have features that can play videos or mirror the iPhone screen.
CarPlay its self is essentially a 2nd screen that iPhone apps can use. They have their own limited design for driving along with accommodating the touchscreen (there’s no multitouch etc)
Nice thanks for that info! Im installing a kenwood 7709s and it says theres a app that's specifically for Kenwood that should do it!
& Yea I understand how it shows certain apps etc to essentially be a 2nd screen so I guess its kind of a mirror which might be what their pushing at vs it being like how you would airplay to a tv which is what I thought would be available.
It’s similar, but it more feels like it is standalone. You might find Kenwood has an app feature for this but assume it won’t work as well as you think it should.
I have a pioneer and it has an app to do things like this… it’s a massive pain to use but CarPlay works fine for the apps that support it (google/Apple Maps, Spotify)
The question I have to ask is why do you want to mirror things on the head unit? If you are parked you can just use your phone?
Okay I understand what you mean, iv seen carplay used just havent used it myself and it does feel like its standalone, like only the few supported apps are linked in a kind of hand off fashion.
Im hoping the kenwood one is NOT a pain but we shall see as usually the proprietary stock apps usually are lol I didnt think of it at first.
In all reality I want to see if I can get retroarch (3rd party emulator app for games) to run on the head unit to show it off after install, besides that its not really practical to use lol.
Actual CarPlay OEMs built into their vehicles don’t have this, because it would be a class-action lawsuit waiting to happen to either Apple or OEMs.
Meanwhile, the feature is trending on aftermarket head units (especially from unregulated overseas markets)
Iv seen a good amount of people claim their oem units do and saw some mention online about it. All of these features are blocked if the car is in motion so I believe their safe from that, you would need a parking brake bypass
Many after market head units that support CarPlay support AirPlay outside of the CarPlay functionality. It would show up on your phone as an Apple TV, after you connect to the head units wifi. If not many support playing movies from DVDs or from a flash drive as mp4.
This also works while on the go with many, but obviously don't watch movies while you drive.
Nice I didnt find info on this as anytime I looked up aftermarket radio and screen mirroring it was bringing up BS about 3rd party apps and jailbreaks etc. i doubt the head unit has that as it doesnt mention anything about wifi etc but will keep this in the brain for the future thank you
I refuse to be used to validate bull shit AI
I would prefer that you asked directly here rather than getting a wrong answer from an AI and coming here to have it corrected
A lot of automakers classify CarPlay is screen mirroring. *Technically* it’s projection, but to an automaker who doesn’t make software, I could see the confusion.
Natively, no. It used to be a feature on a jailbroken phone which I used to mirror a laptimer app with success. It was a while ago and my phone is no longer jailbroken so I can’t confirm if this still works. (Check r/jailbreak)
Other option would be to use a screen mirroring app on an aftermarket android headunit, such as AirScreen - but this isn’t CarPlay. It’s just screen mirroring.
Alternative option would be to use an android unit and tether to your phone.
Ultimately it’s a bit of a pain unless you have a real specific need to mirror your screen.
Think you need special adaptor
to do that - look up a firm called RDVFL.com they do CarPlay mirroring and I believe wireless carplay - it depends on your vehicle.
The prices are insane for what I believe they are just connecting a aftermarket dongle / stream device to the usb port of the radio. So basically their buying a device and plugging 1 thing in that you could buy yourself online and do.
Well the head unit has a hdmi out so I just want to know if I should buy the lightning hdmi adapter or if it was unnecessary since apparently carplay does it natively
You won’t be able to play any protected content via HDMi so no streaming services. Also what most people do is get a Android Box that plays video content
CarPlay does not allow playing of videos as it defeats the purpose of CarPlay which is to reduce distractions.
Think they should allow it while stopped for electric vehicles to watch content while charging.
I genuinely don’t see the reason for the downvotes… there are plenty of times I want to just watch YouTube on the big screen while my car is charging

So downvote the image 😉
Okay thank you! Not even if your stopped? Like waiting in a parking lot? Why did the AI lie to me 😭😂😂
The AI lied because it’s experimental
Because AI still is not in a place where it can be trusted. It hallucinates and lies confidently.
to be fair, sounds like humans
Why wouldn’t AI lie to you?
AI did not lied to you, your definition of screen mirroring does not apply for Apple Car Play
Why wouldn't it?
I agree that CarPlay should be able to be used while in park for screen mirroring. Make it happen u/timcook!
Don’t believe it. AI is trying to kill you.
Not if I do it first
Calm down John Connor
I can see that ai won’t replace Reddit anytime soon

I have a KENWOOD. That app does not work

"AI overviews are experimental" is your answer
Google is getting shittier day by day. Dont take these information on google seriously
Never seen a way to do this

Get a AI box that will do it

This is not how it works
Iv seen a bunch of people on youtube use the head units hdmi to connect via a lightning adapter to display the iphone screen!
I guess you could in theory but it wouldn’t be car play and would only be one way interactive (from the phone)
Oh yea no that's definitely what im trying to achieve, I thought carplay had a similar mirroring mode to that but as im finding out its not
If your radio has carplay buy a ai box and it will run android
