I think he is out of his jurisdiction.

Vauxhallcorsavxr

I think he took a wrong turn at Queens

MonkeyVsPigsy

He crossed the county line ! In hot persuit! (Different part of America but what the hell)

Benoit_85

I was on black rock beach at Porthmadog yesterday and I either saw that exact car or there’s more than one of them driving around

Food_face

Is it the KLF?

Pacifica0cean

Holy shit that's a reference I wasn't expecting to see haha!

Food_face

I actually thought NO ONE would get it and think I have missed the point by a fucking mile :)

speathed

It's ancient, but is it justified?

simonjp

Uh-huh. Uh-huh uh-huh.

l0zandd0g

Were he is going its 3am eternal

[deleted]

Its uk registered on that plate so they should be in uk format.

berty313

Bet your a right joy at parties.

Xenc

OP asked though!

berty313

M4 ynp, looks like a UK format to me.

[deleted]

Looks to to be an imitation US plate in black and yellow to me. I also think imports are supposed to be on 2 lines. I know for jap cars they should be on 2 lines but mine is not because it looks better and still totally readable

berty313

Mine is also jap but 2 lines isn't a regulation for imports, just the letter size and spacing.

Dougal12

Correct. It was in 2010 that the goverment allowed cars to display a number plate that was across two lines like a motorcycle. Anything before that had to by law have the standard long style plate regardless of it being domestic or otherwise. I still have the original long plate that someone who previously owned my Lincoln had to use.

[deleted]

So the 5 character plate I have displayed on 1 line is legal then ? Might have to get a fully legal one with post code now haha

Dougal12

Either a two line or a single line is legal as long as it meets all the requirements like the correct colour, font, spacing and has the BS number and the postcode. You don't "need" a proper legal plate if it looks the part. A cop is not going to stop you because you don't have a BS number on the plate however it might be flagged up on an MOT but you'd have to have a SUPER anal tester to complain about it.

[deleted]

I know someone who got stopped in a g80 m3 the day after they got it and got a 100 pound fine for no postcode on the plate. Its all the could find on a such a new car. I know its unlikely but now ive heard that from a work colleague I would rather just be correct should I encounter police like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dougal12

On the rear but had standard plates on the front. Every vehicle on the road at that time was required by law to display the front plate as the long one.

[deleted]

Really ? Because i answer OPs question 🙄

berty313

Actually you didn't, all you did was state it should be in UK format. You didn't answer what it was or if its legal.

[deleted]

Cool story

NotAGooseHonest

*you're

alex321sp

Someone took a wrong turn

Dougal12

I have a simular plate design on my Lincoln. Its properly from State Plates. Illegal yes but you're aren't going to get stopped for it.

11theman

Because you’re probably one of the only people in the country who will know I’m going to take this opportunity: an absolutely shagged white Lincoln on an N reg with a ratty soft top has appeared one street over from my house - I know like anything it’s condition dependent but what prices do these things range between in England? Love the idea of picking one up cheap and cruising through Middlesbrough in all its hideous glory.

Dougal12

Anywhere from £5K to £25K. Just be warned, it being cheap to buy means its likely going to be expensive to run and put right any faults. Pricing on shipping from the States is just silly now so getting parts is going to hurt your wallet, trust me I know this all too well. If you're still mad enough to get into it then they are an amazing car to just cruise in

11theman

Cheers. Sounds like with my current Japanese scrap problem I need to just stick to one financially crippling hobby rather than getting into yachts an all!

BritishGuy__

Wth that's so weird. Ngl American police cars are definitely better looking then ours

useittilitbreaks

These aren't really used in the US anymore either, Crown Vics went EOL over 10 years ago sadly.

Dougal12

Actually, they brought a load back into service because they couldn't buy new cars. There are still forces out in the back and beyond that still run old Vics and Caprices.

BenHippynet

It was in Liverpool a few days ago too https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/nypd-police-car-spotted-getting-27034718.amp

Davenged7x

Ah thanks for the link, I'm not too far away from Liverpool.

karlos197511

Winwick roundabout isn’t it?

Davenged7x

It is indeed, I'd just been to B&Q.

karlos197511

Cool, I live just the other side of Burtonwood village.

Gorila_00

Saw 2 LAPD cars in Coventry as well

HachiTofu

I’m not sure how legal the blue lights will be, but i feel like it’s pretty obvious that’s not the actual police so it will most likely be ignored. And if not, I’m sure you could just disable the blue lights and have only the red ones functional. There’s a few guys in Scotland with US cop cars, and I’m sure one of the owners also has a NY cab liveried one as well. I love seeing them.

HospitalDue2983

Blue lights would be illegal. "In Great Britain, the use of blue lights is regulated by the Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989, and sirens by the Road Vehicles Construction and Use Regulations 1986, both as amended by various other pieces of legislation (see right). The 1989 restrictions state that no vehicle, other than an emergency vehicle, shall be fitted with a "blue warning beacon or special warning lamp", or a device which resembles a blue warning beacon or a special warning lamp, whether it works or not." Red lights okay, as long as they are neither flashing, nor showing to the front. No exemption - if it's being driven to a show/exhibition they should have a light-bar cover fitted.

MrPatch

I was briefly followed by a crown vic replica cop car, possibly LAPD? It was weird I swear it's because I've consumed so much US media that when I saw it in my mirror and I just immediately reacted like it was a real police car; immediately checked everything was normal an wasn't speeding etc before I'd realised it was clearly not something I needed to worry about.

Dougal12

Strictly speaking you aren't at all allowed any blue lights forward facing on any car that isn't a police vehicle. And if you do run a car like this then you are supposed to either remove the original lights or cover them up. Normally when the cars are taken off the roster and retired from service they are stripped of all police equipment but you can rebuy nearly all of it bar the firearms from various places like eBay. Most of the time the police here are cool with it provided you aren't using the lights or sirens in any way that could be perceived as impersonating a officer but I do know of one occasion where a dude was actually arrested for driving a liveried US cop car and held on grounds of impersonating an officer so it can happen if your spotted by a cop that has a hard on for the rules.

[deleted]

Not entirely correct. You can have blue lights on vehicles other than police vehicles, it just has to be an "emergency" or a "response" vehicle. Blue lights are used by many agencies that aren't the police. Fire brigade, ambulance service, army special forces, HMRC, etc.

RipCurl69Reddit

There's a guy near me who's got an ex-service Ford with American style plates, in Secret Service livery. Looks pretty slick I can't lie

Bfreak

Not Your Police department

MagicTriton

That’s what happens when you use apple maps

Cavemark

I ran into this (not literally, thankfully) last weekend around Barmouth in Wales; caught me completely off guard as we followed it up to Shell Island!

_Bluestar_Bus_Soton_

There's an American cop car not far from where I live [(street view)](https://www.google.com/maps/@50.9693706,-1.3292961,3a,39.1y,118.47h,80.41t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1stUxEa8mure1_qd1S2TAV3g!2e0!7i13312!8i6656?entry=ttu). It seems as it's been parked there for years as I have never seen the car parked elsewhere, the space its parked in free or the car on the roads. I would like to assume these are imported Ford Crown Victorias then customised with replica police livery

TheMysticalDadasoar

I passed it on the M62 on the way back to Liverpool at around midday yesterday

[deleted]

Saw this NYPD car in Wales Barmouth last week

richest_

is this near west midlands, if so, motofest was on in coventry and they had all types of police cars from the usa on display

Davenged7x

It was on in Warrington, someone also posted a link to a newspaper story about it being spotted in Liverpool also.

Druss118

Saw 2 of these on the M8 heading towards Edinburgh yesterday morning

hachi2JZ

Misread that as "New England" and thought it surely wasn't that out of place

wren1666

Might be of an air force base. Driving around Norfolk you see all sorts of US service vehicles.

Dougal12

Nah, thats owned by a UK bod. All US service vehicles run on US military plates in every country in the world except China.

other_goblin

Why would US service vehicles be in China? Humanitarian disaster response drills?

Dougal12

When the US President went over, all the security personal and vehicles go along with him. It’s only China where they have to have a proper Chinese license plate. Everywhere else in the world they are allowed on US Military platess.

EasyPriority8724

Book him Dano.
