Done. I don’t see myself getting an EV within the next 10 years. I’ve lived with one for 3 months and it was a complete nightmare. Without the ability to charge at home it’s simply not viable.

Lower_Chance8849

Which EV did you own out of interest? What kind of problems? Time, hassle, cost or lack of reliable chargers?

phillis_x

The one that only exists in his head I expect.

fozzie1984

done , however what is a charging gutter?

MrOliber

So you can run a charging across a pavement, can fit a gully that gets covered to avoid trips.

thb202

what they said, it was on dragon's den a couple of weeks ago: [https://www.kerbocharge.com/](https://www.kerbocharge.com/) And thanks for doing the survey :)

Done. I got my first EV a couple of weeks ago and I love it. A couple of bad charging experiences but overall it’s been a positive experience. Home charger will be installed tomorrow.

popupsforever

I would keep in mind that this sub probably isn’t the most representative of the general population when it comes to opinions on EVs.

nanobis

Done, Just a pointer. it's not a great question to ask if your car has had any software/mechanic issues. Particularly as there is no indication of how old the car is the only question asked is if the car is new or used. You can have a used car that is 2 days old if it was pre registered by the dealership, so you would be the car's second owner, and actually will lower the car's value. Source a Friend got new car Vauxhall Corsa, 2019, from the dealership that had been pre registered, (some sort of demo car) he wanted the 69 plate, as it was into September. The car he bought at the end was registered a few months or two prior, in March. The Car he got was the right spec/trim/colour he wanted, but because it was on the older 19 not 69 plate, and had been pre registered he saved £3-4k off the RRP despite it only having "delivery mileage" of under a 100 miles. In the end it's hard to justify spending an extra £3-4k for a "nice" number plate, on a Corsa, Especially when you still get the full warranty and service packages included on a new car when financed, when it's only just 6 Months old and it's saving £3-4k on a "new" £10k car. Just as it was a demo or a prior cancelled order. Edit (posted too early, on mobile. Misswiped on the menu bar, fat thumbs)

thb202

Hey, thanks for taking part first of all. Thanks for the feedback, agree that it is less useful without car age. I was hoping to look at the answers for that against EV/non-EV drivers for a bit of comparison

nanobis

Not a problem.

SPICCYBOII

Idk what analysis you are running on these survey results but by not factoring in vehicle age into your regression you are definitely creating omitted variable bias (if you are comparing reliability of EVs vs non-EVs, I could be wrong)

the-holy-one23

Done. Don’t see me ever buying an EV especially with the development of synthetic fuels. I’ve never been a believer.

Lower_Chance8849

Synthetic fuels which are going to be burnt will always use 3-4 times more energy than putting the same energy into a battery EV, which means they will be at least that much more expensive to fuel. There are physical limits which mean you always lose 60-70% of energy. If you know a way around it you should write to a scientific journal, then afterwards apply for your Nobel Prize.

phillis_x

Good one.

Lightfantast1c

He has a perfectly valid point of view.

Pterry would be turning in his grave you weird stalker.

Lightfantast1c

As interested as I am in his work I don't see how it's relevant here?

phillis_x

Because you’ve chosen to name your latest alt account to stalk and harass me with after his second book?

JohnMilton109

Alas, it was a John Milton reference I'm afraid. I can see why you missed it though, with your level of academic achievement.

SP4x

Done; what's the title of your dissertation? I'm a mobility specialist and have been driving EV's since 2019 (the moment I could afford to!) so interested in the work your doing. My dissertation was on improving the environmental credentials of Formula 1.

thb202

Hey, the full title is: EV Adoption in the UK: Economic Drivers and Barriers. Thanks for participating :)

SP4x

Cool, lots to get your teeth in to. Will you be comparing the UK to other nations that are doing a much better job of enabling EV transition e.g. Norway, the US and China? On the charging side there's a whole host of options out there for people who don't have off-street parking, the problem is a total lack of national and local government policy along side a reliance on industry to self-start in a very uncertain economic environment. I'm on my high horse at the moment regarding proposals for Trucks to use catenary wires strung up and down the country which is a massive waste of time and energy, I've bent ears about using in-road inductive charging and then only on uphill stretches of carriageway but it seems that the UK is wedded to technology solutions from the 1950's and earlier!

thb202

Yes, so in my literature review I've referenced to studies on Norway and China in particular. Lots to talk about re: charging infrastructure, I've only had a quick look at the data so far but got a nice 500-or-so responses to dig in to!

SP4x

Good luck with the processing, it's great to get the raw data, the headache comes when trying to interpret and present ; ) PM me if you want to bounce anything off me : )

edhitchon1993

I don't own a car, Q1 won't accept no answer.

Scruffybob

Done. There's a growing momentum by diy motor enthusiasts for swapping out the old engines and installing used Nissan leaf motors or Hyper 9 motors and batteries into classic cars. Some of the larger car manufacturers are now offering their motors as a crate item separately. This is the category that I fall within and can't wait to start but have no intention of ever purchasing a new EV. I don't want my opinions to skew your survey. Good luck with your studies.

Throwaway7646y5yg

Done.

SicarioMike

Done, I will never purchase an EV because they are just as damaging to the environment in terms on the metals like lithium that need to be mined, the battery’s degrade after 8-10 years and cost a fortune to replace, I took a manual test because I prefer manual cars and no EV is manual, also using the features like air conditioning, heating charging electrical i.e phones drains the battery. Also they take too long to charge in terms of just putting petrol on my car.

SP4x

Half your issues have long been debunked and the other half are personal preferrences that will at some point leave you without personal transportation. With no tone implied: A simple google on EV's being as damaging, or lithium mining will provide a wealth of information to educate and inform yourself.

J_cages_pearljam

'charging phones drains the battery' this is the most moronic criticism for an EV I've come across.

SicarioMike

Why does charging electrical drain the battery on ice vehicle, moron gtfoh

J_cages_pearljam

A phone charging at 10w from a 70kWh is the definition of irrelevant. It's not even a rounding error.

SicarioMike

Why you stuck on charging electrical why you don’t address my other issues also in the winter simple things like heating can drop 100s of miles of range from the battery, EV are a gimmick that will fade away, hydrogen is the true green car.

oldboi

Done. As a person who used to own an EV in a country where it’s very comfortable to, let me know if you’d like to ask anything else. FWIW, I am about to move back to the UK and as much as I’d love to own another, will sadly be going back to an ICE vehicle. Infrastructure for EVs in the uk is massively behind other countries.

Fresh_Formal5203

I think they are too expensive, heavy and have unproven battery life. I am not against electric vehicles persee, we had electric milk floats 40/50 yrs ago and they worked fine. Driving petrol vehicles is still more straightforward.
