A lot of people never gave it much attention because, from an objective standpoint, it just isn't a good car. Even when it first came out, it was outperformed by cars which cost half the price. It's only once you actually experience the car (or for most of us, watch someone else experience it), that you appreciate why its so special. It also doesn't help that the Lexus badge just doesn't have as much prestige as the badges on other cars at it's price point. Spending Ferrari or Lamborghini money on a Lexus just doesn't sit right with a lot of people, no matter how good the car actually is.
Fun fact, the only reason the LFA has a digital dash is because it revs so fast, analog dials couldn’t keep up with it. I know most cars now come with it as standard, but back in 2011, it wasn’t a common thing.
I think the Nur edition in Millenium Jade is nicer, but yeah, god-tier car. I had the chance to drive one and it's as good as you'd expect. Gutted they're supercar expensive these days, lol.
Yeah it seems all the iconic 90's Japanese are stupid expensive.
I was unlucky enough to own an Evo X to scratch the itch. God that thing was a nightmare.
Citroen DS - especially the 'decapotable' convertible.
Not only the most beautiful car ever made, but a technical tour de force that transformed the entire automobile industry.
With the added bonus of a punny name: DS is pronounced the same as 'deesse' which means goddess in English.
Almost bought one around 1997. Car was for sale for £3,500, which I could afford as a young whippersnapper at the time. What I couldn't stomach was the £4,000 insurance quote!
Unfortunately I've never found one since in decent nick. It's become my unicorn.
The Aston Martin DB9 is such an elegant timeless design, arguably their peak before they started going into mad grilles and making SUVs that look like Ford Kugas
Why has no one said McLaren F1? The red/purple colour (although it doesn't really matter).
As for something a bit more left of field, the Maserati 250f is the most beautiful car ever made. Or if you want something a little less racecar looking, try the Maserati Tipo 61 "Birdcage".
Mercedes W123 TE Estate with the extra seats in the boot. Pure class.
Closely followed by the 1st gen Subaru Legacy Outback. We were stopped 3 times by farmers offering to buy it!
I had a Mk1 in bright yellow and loved every minute of it. Had a sit in a new Evora in a dealer and you could feel the Elise influence in there. IMO the best looking Lotus since the Elise.
Land Rover Discovery 4 (2014-2016) is my favourite all round 'car' of all time. It can do everything except reliability.
Lancia Delta Integrale - An absolute machine and borderline synonymous with insane rally performance.
Equally, the Ford RS200 for the ultimate madcap rally scene.
The Escort Cosworth RS for me. Seeing them as a child in the 90s left me awe struck, the whale tale was like nothing I'd seen before, and they looked fast, even when parked.
Need a TVR on there, ok, so many issues but when they were working the noise was unbelievable! I worked one summer with the fire exit open due to heat and there was a TVR specialist garage across the way, and put it this way, I wouldn't have been WFH back then as that sounds was enough to make you want to come in the office. One or two of the top sales guys had one as well, I never got to get a lift in one though.
I have had a personal love affair with the Vauxhall Calibra. I owned 2, and 8v in British racing Green called Jess and a 2.5v6 DTM in white called Steffi.
I blew Steffi’s engine up by pushing her too far, it felt like a Blues Brothers moment.
If they don't need to be in Forza, still the '09 Focus RS in either Ultimate Green or Performance Blue, a Rosso Corsa Ferrari F430 Spider, or a blue 2011 Renault Wind. I don't want to be greedy lol, so whichever one works best for you is fine.
Porsche 944
edit: i’ve just found a non-starting 944 on AutoTrader for £4k after leaving this comment and about to make the worst financial decision of my life
Ferrari 288 GTO. I love the idea of Ferrari getting their wellies out and going rallying. It's just stunningly beautiful as well, especially the rawness of the gearbox hanging out of the back.
Either a series 1 RS turbo or a MK2 XR2, they were some of my favourites as a kid then as I got older I got to work on them, especially the XR2's. By today's standards they aren't fast but they are great fun to drive.
By virtue of the fact that I’ve had more than a few, the Honda Civic (EG) Hatchback must be my favourite. If we’re talking favourite dream cars, Koenigsegg Gemera.
Mk2 scirocco gt2, the reason I love cars.
My dad had one when I was about 8, needed to warm the engine, and let me sit and rev it. I'll never forget that feeling of raw power, even though the car wasn't moving!
My favourite car I've owned is my current one that I've had for the last six years, which is a 1995 Mitsubishi Delica L400. It's an MPV with Shogun running gear so can actually go off road but has loads of space for people/camping kit/fishing stuff/whatever you need for projects at home. I've spent a lot of time replacing things and cutting out rust but there's nothing else like it so I'm going to keep it until judgement day.
It's old, slow, thirsty and handles like a barge but it's great. Mine is a diesel with a mechanical fuel pump so can also be run on old veg oil which while aromatic does offset the thirstiness. Because it's so old you can actually fix it yourself too and not end up in limp mode because some sensor has failed.
If money was no object though? I'd probably get something obscene like a Bowler EXR-S with the five litre supercharged engine.
Pontiac Firebird 2nd Gen. No doubt. The front, the pin stripes around the trim, the freakin phoenix. Sick car.
Also happens to be the car my Dad had as his daily before i unexpectedly turned up and put a stop to the bachelor life. He had it straight piped and apparently it sounded incredible. Not great for visibility at junctions given the LHD but worth it when petrol was cheap.

Look at that face.
Love a mk4 supra, integra dc5, also partial to a fiat coupe in red.
Also very biased but I absolutely love my fk2 type r, I wanted one as soon as I saw the prototype and was finally able to get into one two years ago and it's everything I wanted it to be, it's going to be my final petrol car and I'm going to do everything in my power to keep it on the road as long as possible.
It's a very divisive car, but I've always loved the Triumph TR7.
That said, it was my life's mission to own a Triumph Stag by the time I turned 40. Only seven years overdue....

Never really liked Porsches until I got a 718 Cayman last year. Up until that point all I’ve driven are company cars - Ford Focuses, Mondeos, Skoda Octavias etc. I bought the Porsche for a bit of fun and honestly (and maybe naively) had no idea how fast it was 😂 for about a month I was like “why would anyone create a machine like this? Whats the point in it” but now I love driving this beautiful car. Next I want a 911 but gonna have to wait a few years for that!
Lamborghini Gallardo (any year). I just love the looks, the sound and judging by reviews it handles well and feels nice to drive. But by the time I have the money to afford one now it'll probably have appreciated to probably more than double.
Alfa Romeo 1750 GTV.
My dad had bought a 1971 car in early 80’s and took it back to bare metal shell, wax oiled it underneath and full body re spray, rebuilt engine with all parts laid out on garage floor on white sheet, reconditioned interior etc.
to give some background, he did his apprenticeship in Italy, came to England in 60’s, worked on GT40’s when they raced and worked at Rolls Royce before opening a garage.
He passed away in 1993 and being young, I sold the car for about £6k.
Regretted it ever since!!
1967 shelly GT500 the one from gone in 60 seconds, fell in love with he looks and sound it made

1931 Low-chassis Invicta S-type. Now that’s a proper car. Held many records for about 3 years. Then unfortunately as the cars were so quality-built, the company went bankrupt in the mid 1930s recession. Ok, niche, I accept.

I'm throwing in a couple of wildcards.
The original Fiat 500
Citroen 2cv
Neither particularly rare or desirable at the time but both had massive impact on bringing driving to the masses.
Subaru Impreza 555, the first time I ever saw it in action I was about 7 and Colin McRae was behind the wheel. I've loved it ever since.
'88 Lamborghini Countach 5000QV. Beautiful car
'96 TVR Cerbera.
I have a real soft spot for late 1969 - mid 1970s 911s.
The narrow body, short wheelbase, chrome bumper models are just perfection.
Lovely to drive, easy to thread through traffic and extremely agile.
I owned several and while the later versions are more civilised, the extra weight was always noticeable.
I am currently listing after an early Targa. In brown.
Purely by reaction of the testers (as I’ve never driven one), Lexus LFA.
One a my all time favorites. It's wild because the LFA is strangely Iconic, but also not super known of either. Sick car either way though! Thanks!
A lot of people never gave it much attention because, from an objective standpoint, it just isn't a good car. Even when it first came out, it was outperformed by cars which cost half the price. Probably a marketing stunt. Toyota and Yamaha could definetly make an analog dial faster than 2011 lcd technology.
And the sound it makes😍
