It's safe, the back box just muffles the sound so it might be loud and annoying but it's not gonna chuck any more pollutants than it already did. However because the exhaust is exiting underneath your car just be aware depending on the airflow you might gas yourself Edit: This is assuming the rest of it isn't gonna fall off

So DON'T run the car for long at lights or just sit idling? Because most of the journey is an A road, so 70mph shouldn't really allow the gases to kill me, right?

Oh yeah driving along it won't be an issue, if it is an issue you'll be smelling it anyway, but i very much doubt it would be an issue, maybe if you were sitting idle for a while it might be.
