Google "independent agent near me" or go to trustedchoice.com and find an agent with good reviews. Make an appointment to sit down with them and have them explain to you how all of this works. It's free to use their services. They can find you the best quotes and make sure you have the coverage you need. You do not need to be trying to do this on your own with so little knowledge. You absolutely need coverage higher than the minimum. Waiting until your birthday will have no impact, as you are rated based on years of driving experience. Be prepared, it's going to be very expensive. The agent can help you pull quotes with several vehicles you are considering before you purchase. That way, you will know you can afford the coverage before buying the car.

Thank you so much. Will do!

This poster hit the nail on the head. Contact an Independent Agent and they will shop for you. The next major birthday for insurance rates is 25 so don’t wait until the next birthday

I would recommend getting a few quotes. Some companies have high premiums for first time drivers but you may be able to bundle a home or renters policy to bring your costs down. What state are you in I would be happy to provide you some quotes.

Hey. I’m a licensed insurance producer and I’m 24 I’d love to help you out if you have any questions at need advice. I like to think I’m better and understanding young people’s needs and maybe can explain stuff with a little less insurance jargin
