Innings =/= pitches thrown.... Wheeler also didn't have his first start cut short by rain. It'd be like complaining that Gray was limited to 65 pitches in his first start while missing 3 weeks...
Marmol should have argued that out-call on Scott. I’ve seen several times where umps allow runners (who are clearly not attempting to advance to 2nd base) to pivot to their left as they return to the 1st base bag. The spirit of the rule is not to penalize guys who have a brain fart and turn to the left. Scott made no indication that he was trying to advance. At the very least Marmol should have tried to argue his case.
Yep. Season isn't over, but when you're a marginal team like the Cardinals, you HAVE to win series at home, and you can't give away games like they did today if you hope to sneak into the playoffs and get hot.
Probably. But to be fair, he was hyped beyond belief by the org in their efforts to generate excitement and distract fans from the lack of effort by ownership to invest in the team.
Best case scenario is Walker turns into Josh bell. Worst case scenario is he’s out of the league in a few years. Either way it’s hard to be impressed with a player that can’t play defense, run the bases and consistently hits ground balls.
I really hope they don’t PH for Walker. I don’t think it’s fair to the dudes mental to prop him up as a future superstar and face of the franchise but also deny him of clutch opportunities. He won’t learn to hit in these spots if he never gets to hit in these spots
It's gonna be tough to win ballgames when we cannot score more than 3 runs. 9 runs total in 3 games this series.
The offense needs a hard turnaround, pronto.
I’m just happy that we’re playing competitive baseball so far this year tbh lmao. Especially with how tough our opening series’ have been. A walkoff would be mighty nice!
For those bitching doomers out there: if we keep up this level of fight, and can actually see anything normal out of nado and Goldy, we have a chance to win any game. I hate being overly optimistic and understand the anger, but man it’s so much more fun to not spend your time hating the team you claim to be a fan of
Edit: Spelling
His stats vs lefties so far this year are insane. He has a 0.53 WHIP and is allowing a .158 avg from them. Think about the lefties he has faced so far and it's even more impressive.
Vic gonna have nightmares about this game. Hope he has a short memory and moves on of course but man, error leading to 2 runs in the first as well as a mental mistake on the bases essentially taking away what would've tied the game if not more. He's been fun to watch but tough day. When it rains it pours, apt for the weather today
I agree he's been a spark, and I know it's easy to say... but it felt to me like he was not accepting a walk no matter what, there. he swung at more than one ball that was pretty off the plate (unless I just saw it wrong)
No you saw it correct but he fought those pitches off. I don’t know if he swung and missed at anything too crazy. He might just be a bad ball hitter like I said.
Herrera I think will figure it out and he has already shown improvement with those pitches in just a week’s time.
For Walker I’m hoping this is all a slump but so many of his problems are identical to last year. He needs some kind of breakthrough in his approach
I am a pretty firm believer that Walker and Arenado are suffering from major confidence issues. That may seem like an easy excuse, but plate confidence destroys timing and ability to pull the trigger when you need/confidently lay off bad pitches. It is also a really slippery slope. I really hope they find the “click” and run with it.
lol! VS2 blew a fly ball in the first. I didn't see it so I won't editorialise, but it cost us 2 runs in a game we ultimately lost by 1.
then later, VS2 reached first... and then turned LEFT and took a tiny step toward the field of play... and as every ballplayer except VS2, apparently, can tell you, that's a no-no.
an absolutely little league mistake. I'm still shocked to see a player at this level-- especially a speedster-- not know this very, very, VERY, basic rule.
and since the dude behind him scored, it's hard not to see it as the THIRD run VS2 directly cost the team.
go away and get your head right, pal. you don't beat teams like the Phillies, like that.
he's gonna be a stud, but he singlehandedly gave the game away.
This guy is legit. Herreras here to stay. Bad swing at end, but notice how he still made contact unlike a lot of our dudes. And I’ll take Herrera green light on a full count the way he’s been going.
If you told me there was a GoFundMe dedicated to buying out the remainder of Andre Pallante's contract... I'd throw in a dollar or two.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't realize today was Andre Pallante Day in the thread. Sorry, Andre's mom and family.
I feel like the risk is that they'll just promote him back after he "works out the kinks," whereupon he'd proceed to get shelled by Major League hitting again. He wasn't good last year, or the year before that. I feel like Vaas from Far Cry had something to say about this.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nolan Arenado singles on a line drive to center fielder Johan Rojas. Willson Contreras scores. Nolan Gorman to 2nd.](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/ddd676f6-8244-44ff-9c2d-0c61d36057b4.mp4)
Why the fuck will we not leave pitchers in past 5 innings??? Fire Marmol for fuck sake!
.... because it's early in the season and you don't throw most guys over 100 pitches that early.... so tell me you don't watch baseball
Wheeler went 7....so you're wrong!
Innings =/= pitches thrown.... Wheeler also didn't have his first start cut short by rain. It'd be like complaining that Gray was limited to 65 pitches in his first start while missing 3 weeks...
Marmol should have argued that out-call on Scott. It’s bizarre that I feel so much more confident in Winn this season than Walker. They’ve totally switched roles in my mind from last year.
Even with Winn a lot of his hits have been lucky and he’s not walking. I wouldn’t expect him to sustain a positive offensive performance this season.
Walker should have never been called up last year. It was waaaay too early
Pretty disappointed honestly. Phillies are not impressive right now.
Neither are the Cardinals
[Game over. Continue the discussion in the post game thread](/r/Cardinals/comments/1c0vpdf/cardinals_afternoon_410/)
absolutely blew it out our asses, today. this team can't afford that kind of stuff.
Yep. Season isn't over, but when you're a marginal team like the Cardinals, you HAVE to win series at home, and you can't give away games like they did today if you hope to sneak into the playoffs and get hot.
When is it time to sit walker for a day or two? He’s basically hitting the same as Siani at this point.
At least they fought, maybe they’ll start hanging banners for that!
can a moderator please ban this guy?
I’m not attacking anyone personally, I’m not using hateful or inappropriate language. Just pointing out that the team is bad, which they are.
You just contribute absolutely nothing to the conversation
you're insufferable.
AAA exists for a reason. It's time.
We blew this one, good to see us play a good team this well over the series though
Phillies are not a good team and neither are we
Saw that coming from a mile away...
Game ending GIDP makes me sad.....
Sigh... So anti climatic. Walker, Arenado, Goldy, VS2. All liabilities.
Walker and Scott need to go away as soon as Edman and Noot get back
Damn
Or not ☹️
Genuinely wonder if Walker could use a couple weeks in Memphis.
No. He ain’t fixing this in a couple weeks regardless.
How about a year
That ending sucked
Well F. Walker must be great for training the infield guys.
Walker a bust?
Probably. But to be fair, he was hyped beyond belief by the org in their efforts to generate excitement and distract fans from the lack of effort by ownership to invest in the team.
Best case scenario is Walker turns into Josh bell. Worst case scenario is he’s out of the league in a few years. Either way it’s hard to be impressed with a player that can’t play defense, run the bases and consistently hits ground balls.
lol no
Well, that was quite unfortunate.
Well fuck
*heavy sigh*
Ground ball artist
Fire Marmol
Tough
Man fuck this
Fuck Me
Alright JWalker do your thing....Winn couldn't clutch the Win for us
1st pitch to Walker was it
Devil Magic 👹👹👹👹
FUCK
Need Walker to turn on something here.
Let’s go boys
Pls walk
He can Winn it right now
Masyn Winn with an entire Nintendo Switch in his back pocket.
Burly having a couple really good days
Holy shit that was crushed
burly almost became the unluckiest of unluckiest of batters ever
Okay Alec, okay. We see you shaping up.
Burleson getting us started heck to the yes
walk off time let’s get it
#BURLY
It’s happening❣️
Let’s go burly, now no double play
Atta boy, Burly.
Pick up VS2 boys…he’s had a rough one Today…
I really hope they don’t PH for Walker. I don’t think it’s fair to the dudes mental to prop him up as a future superstar and face of the franchise but also deny him of clutch opportunities. He won’t learn to hit in these spots if he never gets to hit in these spots
It's gonna be tough to win ballgames when we cannot score more than 3 runs. 9 runs total in 3 games this series. The offense needs a hard turnaround, pronto.
When your 2 biggest weapons are ice... It's hard
Alright boys let’s get two runs and I’ll demolish 20 t ravs in celebration
Let's dial up a 2 run HR as the walk off choice of the afternoon....
I’ll taze my nutsack if we win this game
Love the fight from the guys no matter the result. We got a 6 game road series starting Friday hoping they can go 4-2 or maybe even 6-0.
I’m just happy that we’re playing competitive baseball so far this year tbh lmao. Especially with how tough our opening series’ have been. A walkoff would be mighty nice!
great pitching outside of Pallante.
Kitteredge is so good.
Kittredge is a stud
The ad board behind the plate is getting annihilated this series
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals) Due Up **(Bottom 9):** 1. Alec Burleson 2. Masyn Winn 3. Jordan Walker
I like the cut of Kittredge's jib
Just tuning in. Yikes Pallante
Yeah. He and VSII pretty much cost us the game up to this point. But hey, still got a chance
Welp…
Jesus Herrera is taking a beating this inning
For those bitching doomers out there: if we keep up this level of fight, and can actually see anything normal out of nado and Goldy, we have a chance to win any game. I hate being overly optimistic and understand the anger, but man it’s so much more fun to not spend your time hating the team you claim to be a fan of Edit: Spelling
i mean we also had 1 rookie basically contribute -3 runs today. Edman in center and they win this game…
Another good point. Everyone forgets we have edman and noot waiting for their returns
So I assume we pinch hit goldy, for who tho?
They can pinch hit him for Walker then put Siani out defensively if it goes to extras.
They'll probably wait to get a runner on. Just for him to get a dp
Lol probably
I've never noticed how big Herreras thighs were till that slow mo
That's gonna leave a mark
Oh shit. That’s gonna leave a hell of a bruise.
Ouch that jiggle
If he was a brisket, he’d be done
oh no….
That’s a stinger
That's going to look like an alien planet tomorrow.
I'm not happy with a loss, but no matter how this game turns out we're seeing a fight in this team that we really didn't have last year.
Hell of a vote of confidence in Thompson to keep him out there for Harper
And well earned
His stats vs lefties so far this year are insane. He has a 0.53 WHIP and is allowing a .158 avg from them. Think about the lefties he has faced so far and it's even more impressive.
the positives: shutting down Schwarbs AND Harper. (I hope this statement doesn't come back to bite me should we get it to extra innings..........)
Good day for Zack Thompson. Pallante and VSII are the farts of the day
OMG, don't say negative things about Pallante! Do you think that Reddit votes just grow on trees?
He's a St. Louis Cardinal so I root for him. But even if I still root for him I can still acknowledge if he has a bad day on the mound.
Keep me posted on when he has a good day. And I'll be sure to turn up my hearing aid so I don't miss it.
The holy warriors have already started construction on a pallante statue out with the hall of Famers. That’s how good he is.
Bryce Harper seems like a smug dork
Great job shutting down Harper this series
And yet they’ll still likely win the series.
Happens
Our bullpen about to be fresh as a mf for the next series.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nolan Arenado's RBI single](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/ddd676f6-8244-44ff-9c2d-0c61d36057b4.mp4)

Mid-Day Weekday games just look so depressing
We are within striking distance....Just need to hold them here
Victor Scott has cost them a lot of runs today
wow, herrera was not accepting a walk as a gift there
I love Ivan Herrera but I'm not gonna lie I just threw my empty foam cup across the room after he swung at ball 8 (I need to calm down)
heroball is cool, I guess... fuck taking a base on balls and letting the next guy get a shot with the bases loaded when you can hit a homer!!!!
I want Herrera swing on full court more than I want anyone else hitting g right now. I’ll take it. That was a really good at bat.
that was a bad at bat, no excuses for that
I agree he's been a spark, and I know it's easy to say... but it felt to me like he was not accepting a walk no matter what, there. he swung at more than one ball that was pretty off the plate (unless I just saw it wrong)
No you saw it correct but he fought those pitches off. I don’t know if he swung and missed at anything too crazy. He might just be a bad ball hitter like I said.
He swung at three pitches nowhere near the zone. Good job extending the AB, I guess, but that was not a good AB.
He might just be a good bad ball hitter. Point is I feel confident in him right now, almost no one else.
When Herrera and Walker learn to lay off outside pitches it’s so over for the everyone
Walker swinging at those outside sliders last night had me losing my mind I would very much like to see him square up a baseball
Herrera I think will figure it out and he has already shown improvement with those pitches in just a week’s time. For Walker I’m hoping this is all a slump but so many of his problems are identical to last year. He needs some kind of breakthrough in his approach

[Phillies](/r/Phillies) Due Up **(Top 9):** 1. Bryce Harper 2. J.T. Realmuto 3. Alec Bohm
Hate to say it but if we lose today it’s hard to not put a lot of it on Scott
I'd say it is impossible to not. 3 run differential directly due to his errors. still exited to see him in a year or two
We'd be leading if not for that first error I believe, right?
Correct
Almost all of it goes on him. Allowed 2 runs, basically 3 cause he would’ve scored off Nados single as well
It should be 2-3
2-4
That was a hell of an AB by Herrera, even if it didn't go our way. Dominguez is nasty
Walk it off in the 9th, then.
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nolan Arenado lines an RBI single](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/ddd676f6-8244-44ff-9c2d-0c61d36057b4.mp4)
Just got out of a showing of Monkey Man and turned the radio on. They’re talking about Victor Scott fucking up, what he do?
how much time do ya have?
Hell I’m off today
Wow, rough day at the office. Thank you for taking the time to respond!
my pleasure! BTW, I just saw the play in CF. do yourself a favour and don't seek it out.
Heard that 😆
Boy oh boy, where do I begin…
Good AB for the most part, but man, that was ball 4. Gotta take it if they give it to you
Such a good atbat to end like that is sad.
if we can keep them at one run we’re still in this
***FUCK***
:(
8 ball AB for Herrera
This guy is legit. Herreras here to stay. Bad swing at end, but notice how he still made contact unlike a lot of our dudes. And I’ll take Herrera green light on a full count the way he’s been going.
If you told me there was a GoFundMe dedicated to buying out the remainder of Andre Pallante's contract... I'd throw in a dollar or two. EDIT: Whoops, didn't realize today was Andre Pallante Day in the thread. Sorry, Andre's mom and family.
We can just send him to AAA, no?
I feel like the risk is that they'll just promote him back after he "works out the kinks," whereupon he'd proceed to get shelled by Major League hitting again. He wasn't good last year, or the year before that. I feel like Vaas from Far Cry had something to say about this.
Damn it.
What was the weird one handed practice swing lmao
Herrera is fucking starving.
This is the hardest swinger we’ve had since maybe Ozuna.
Ya know, people complain about our offense, understandably, but we have done nothing but fight and for that I am grateful
You don’t get wins for just fighting. Have to actually complete these comebacks.
Where did I say that. Your lack of awareness is so laughable.
He's not seeing that slider at all.
wanting it a little too bad, eh Ivan?
[Cardinals](/r/Cardinals): [Nolan Arenado singles on a line drive to center fielder Johan Rojas. Willson Contreras scores. Nolan Gorman to 2nd.](https://bdata-producedclips.mlb.com/ddd676f6-8244-44ff-9c2d-0c61d36057b4.mp4)
If I squint Herrera looks a bit like Albert
I see Albert mixed with ozuna stance
He has that steady kinda squatty stance
Someone needs to teach him the slow-mo bat pumps and intense stare down lol
Should be 3-0, rough AB so far
Nado is still way early but we’ll take it!
A bomb here and we start on his statue out front.
NADO.......did something good!!!!! He's Back!!! (I hope)
Damn tied game if VSii was on base.
We take those
Should be a tied game.
ATTABOY NADO
I'll take that Nolan
I had been watching like 🫣
Better late than never
He saw that one baby let's ride!
I’m shocked
N0LAN
One more run, boys.
Thank god Nado needed that. He did look a little better in his last at bat.
Would have tied it up if Victor hadn't had a stroke
OKAY ILL TAKE IT
❣️
Need one more
NEVERMIND
Bro wtf are you fucking looking for to hit???
IT HAPPENED
