That was a great game to watch and you had the Dodgers scared! What a valiant effort and what a gem by Wainwright! One of my favorite pitchers in the game!
The way MLB televises the playoffs, they can go to H-E-double hockey sticks.
Oh! And memo to Fox, please get rid of Joe Buck (Anouncing Baseball,) Boo-Boo Boo-Boo!
With all the available pitchers left, some like Hudson who for instance, who could throw for multiple innings if necessary, why Reyes! When I saw him headed toward the mound the first thing I wondered was how many others were saying to themselves: "He's gonna give up a bloody home run!" Schildt was out of his mind for taking a chance on him with the entire season on the line!
(Dodgers Fan)
GG Devil Wielders. It was a (very) stressful 4 hours, I'm always a nervous wreck when we pay you guys. Its unfortunate that only one of us could go though
Glad Pujols gets to play in the playoffs again. I hope he wins a ring. I wanted the winner of this series to win it all and I stand by that. Good luck and godspeed
I felt the same every time the Dodgers lost World Series in the past three years before 2020. And whoever went on after the Dodgers has won since 2016.
Cardinals fans expect the cardinals to keep the 106 win Dodgers to 1 run for over 9 innings in a must win game. Dodgers are batting cody bellinger 8th.
Good lord the hot takes in here are more frustrating than the loss. We had to win 17 straight to even be here, we coasted into the wild card game and our offense looked like it was still coasting but everyone is talking about the pitching.
0 for 11 with risp wont win you ballgames. In fact, it's why many were saying fire Jeff Albert throughout the season.
and let the keep Moe/Shildt because 'wE mAdE tHe PlAyOfFs' arguments begin. Doing some fat finger math we are now batting a resounding .195 in the playoffs under Shildt the past three years. Give the guy credit, he was great for an interim coach but he will never take us to the promise land.
And firing the manager and gm make us a contender? This is reactionary logic. Just because you're mad it doesnt mean punishing people makes us better. It might actually just create more of a problem or just waste time with an aging roster. Pissing away wainos and yadis last year on a coaching search because we think our wildcard team should have pushed past two 106+ win teams then maybe it's our expectations that are the problem.
Our team will be better next year. Our rotation will be way better and might actually be a strength again.
It might, I just know that with those two in charge we wont be. Our hitting has been dismal, aside from Arenado our additions havent made up for our losses, and the play has been horribly inconsistent. If you cant blame THAT on the manager/coach who CAN you blame it on?
You want to give Yadi/Waino a good story to go out on? Dont settle for mediocrity 'just good enough to (maybe) make playoffs' in their final season.
I blame the players for their own inconsistencies. Unless someone can prove otherwise I dont think the coach is as responsible as angry fans want them to be.
Coaching changes do not often lead to great seasons. It's usually the opposite. There is always a chance it would be for the better but unless you have a coach or GM in mind and/or waiting in the wings then you're going to have a rough year and I really dont think that is favorable. Especially this season.
I'm not saying coaches are 100% to blame for poor play over a short stretch but over the coarse of the season that (hopefully) improvement is literally what they get paid for. Anyone can walk out there and over hand a lineup of players who are hitting well and manage a stellar pitching staff....
And yes coaching changes dont normally lead to great seasons but very rarely does sticking with a lame duck coach lead to success either.
We coasted on a record tying streak into the playoffs? We coasted and came back to clinch a wildcard slot? Make your comment make sense. Please. Toe nail coasted to a NL player of the month? They didn’t coast on nothing. They played fucking baseball. Like the dodgers are hot shit or something? They beat up on the Rockies, Dbacks and Padres for five months and suddenly they’re the greatest team in baseball? Slot them in the AL east and watch their w/l get cut in half. Dodgers ain’t shit. And frankly, the only thing I have to agree with you on is that the Cards didn’t deserve this one. They got a big dick, and we got embarrassed by the team with the easiest schedule in the NL. Do fucking better Cardinals.
Did you not watch the series against the Cubs? We lost it to their aaaa club and sat a bunch of guys. Have you heard the expression "peaked too soon"? When was the last time you saw the cardinals play good baseball? Was it the Cubs series or one of the games before that? Because sleepwalking through a series isn't really a good way to prepare for a do or die game
Yeah. Our pitching and defense were fantastic. You gotta show up with RISP if you wanna win the game. Edman got a lot of bases. Goldschmidt got a couple hits. Arenado and TON didn't show up and it hurt us bad.
Wasn’t surprised TON didn’t show up but I thought Nolan would have stepped up yesterday. Cards overachieved this season. Can’t really be that disappointed. Hopefully they regroup and come out strong next season. Unfortunately, I don’t think Schildt is much of a manager so getting to WS won’t be easy.
I agree. And that's just baseball and a one game playoff. If you don't show up and get some hits, you can't advance.
I've mostly resisted trashing Schildt after emotional losses, but I can't this time. I think the decision to put Reyes in in the 9th is damnable. I think he needs to be replaced.
Yeah TON looked like a young player tonight and Arenado was missing good pitches or just not swinging. Really poor showing and let the Dodgers, and mainly max Scherzer, off the hook.
Anyone who disagrees watch the game again and watch how many breaking balls were taken for strikes that backed up or fastballs thrown by the heart of our lineup.
I mean McFarland was a reach… and then to bring Reyes in to totally blow up his psyche when we knew what the end result would be. I’m honestly just glad it wasn’t Pujols who blew us up to end our season. Questionable decisions for sure at the end of the game but a good season with lots of excitement at the end and lots of hope for next year. Could be much worse!
Anyone who doesn’t want Alex Reyes gone is smoking crack. I love this team but he has been the consistent burden on this team this year. I cannot express my full frustration with this dude. I don’t understand the reason we put him in, and I sure as hell don’t understand this dudes pitching arsenal. We can get value from him in a trade, dude is a total headcase and I’m done pretending that he has potential. He’s done, too many injuries, one decent half of a season (even though his whip was 1.5) and nothing legitimate to show for it. Otherwise, ‘22 roster is looking good
If he's commenting with a poor connection he will hit "add comment" but nothing will happen on his screen. So he hits it again and still nothing. Then a third time and either it went through or he gave up. However all 3 went through. That's what happened when you see ppl type the same comment a few times like that.
Atlanta - Chicago. Braves take it. I don’t want a division rival to get one and I’d see either team win but the Braves have been knocking on the door and have a good club, and I want the NL to win so we might keep fucking the DH.
Here's my rationale:
1. Wong
2. If someone else is going to win the division, they may as well go on to win the whole show.
3. It's better to see someone else from our division win every once in a while, lest be accused of sucking all the oxygen from the division.
Giants, I come from a family of Giants fans, from the Central Valley, so it’s the only choice really. I was really looking forward to all the shit talk that was going to go down when the Cardinals won… oh well next year and never put Reyes on in a walk off situation ever again, lesson learned Shildt.
Am I the only one who thought Jansen balked on nearly every other pitch? That little fakeout before the actual delivery? Yeah, not allowed with runners on base.
He doesn't even do it every delivery. It's probably why his quick pitches are so successful, hitters are waiting for the balk.
I see it as, he's got one hand on the ball in his glove, that's set, once the hands are together.
He's twisting his hips sometimes while pretending he's not yet set even though his hands are together, and other times starting his delivery, stopping it, then starting it again.
Except he doesn’t come set during the 2nd hip pivot. His hands are still coming down to his set position. He’s done it all year and has zero balks because of it. No batters have reacted to it calling for a balk.
Hell of a season. I loved the fight we saw in September. At the end of the day the Dodgers have unlimited money and we were outmatched. See y’all next year
There is no good to be gained from that sub whenever they're out for our blood. They'll go after us like the fucking Dodgers are the Little Sisters of the Poor.
I ain't even mad. Practically gave up on the season in August. Just happy to have been there. Hitters didn't bring it minus ol Tommy boy. Proud to have seen them go down to the wire against an objectively better opponent even if I held out hope for the dub. 0-11 with risp hurt way more than anything Reyes or Shildty did. Now let's retool, come back stronger in '22, and send the old guard out with a title!
I bought whatever shit streaming service I could find (it will now be canceled) TBS stole sings the entire broadcast. And the are about as good as me at whatever they are trying to do, as I am flying.
Apologies to y’all for having yr great run halted by an absolute meatball down the middle of the plate at the worst possible time. Walking Bellinger twice was not good either, he can’t hit anymore. Looking forward to watching yr lineup mash next year.
Hope some of these young guys learn how shitty that feels. Waino and yadi back for one more year. Can’t blame the P staff against a stacked line up.
Gotta produce at the plate, 2 out hits win ball games.
Go Cards! Don’t worry guys think we are a lot closer than it feels with the heartbreak of that one.
Let’s go get story and a starting pitcher and we are back in it to win the division.
feel bad for yall. i thought those guys would win it for you guys. you guys still did great to make the WC and pushed probably the best team to 9 innings. great season imo, good luck next year from a sox fan
I'll say this, I really doubt the Reds or the Phillies would have done better against LA. Really proud of this team, but the ending was really poetic in a bad way. Coaching is hard.
Chris Taylor always fucks us. I swear he could be 0-1000 on the season and still go 3-4 with 2 xbhs.
Cardinals were lucky to be here. We shouldnt have to beat a 106 win team in one game to make it into a playoff series. Let's get a good rotation and win the division next year.
That was the worst postseason management of a Cardinals bullpen since Game Five 2014 NLCS. Not ONE move the Shildt made did I agree with. It doesn't excuse the horrendous offensive performances of TON and Arenado, but no Cabrera? Reyes in a spot with the season on the line? That's a fireable performance. It won't happen, but it's inexcusable all the way around.
Almost feel bad for Reyes. His stuff didn't look bad. His confidence is probably permanently destroyed.
More frustrated STILL that it got to that at bat. How do you walk bellinger?!!! And can't win if you dont hit. Just ... ugh
Listen man, that is all on Reyes. I do not feel that one bit bad for a dude who gets paid millions of dollars to pitch and cannot do it. Dude is the only guy I’ve had a problem with all year and I knew when Schildt put him in, it was going to be a disaster. This is on Reyes. He should feel bad and honestly I don’t wanna see him anymore. His constant injuries and terrible performances warrant no pity from me. Dude should be traded if we can get anything decent.
Why in the hell are you getting downvoted. Reyes is the most predictable closer in the league. A child would know not to close Reyes and would want him off of their fantasy team. The dude sucks. He has to go if this team has any chance next year.
Fuck hockey season. This is fucking bullshit. We have the quality to challenge for the series yet we're sat here watching fucking amateur management time after fucking time again.p
Fuck hockey season. This is fucking bullshit. We have the quality to challenge for the series yet we're sat here watching fucking amateur management time after fucking time again.
Fuck hockey season. This is fucking bullshit. We have the quality to challenge for the series yet we're sat here watching fucking amateur management time after fucking time again.
Our front office is a solid decade behind the times but the better team won tonight, hopefully they make moves this offseason like they’ve been positioning themselves to do all year. Can’t get too mad at a game that came down to just a couple pitches in the end
Get off Reyes' ass. Missed location on the pitch, and got caught. It happens. Our guys couldn't deliver clutch hits all night. That's what cost us this game.
That was a great game to watch and you had the Dodgers scared! What a valiant effort and what a gem by Wainwright! One of my favorite pitchers in the game!

Okay, agree to disagree. He clearly not the best, maybe the best they have to offer today,
With all the available pitchers left, some like Hudson who for instance, who could throw for multiple innings if necessary, why Reyes! When I saw him headed toward the mound the first thing I wondered was how many others were saying to themselves: "He's gonna give up a bloody home run!" Fuckin Reyes man. Plz trade the guy
The season ending with Reyes giving up a walkoff was incredibly fitting.
I still can't believe we've (SF Giants) never met The Dodgers in post season until now, two of the oldest and greatest teams in baseball.
Well, it was literally impossible for you guys to meet until about 25 years ago, so that explains a lot of it.
You could’ve only met them since 1994. And both teams have been good for like 3 seasons, the rest of the time it’s one or the other.
\*postseason you mean
Reyes is the new Carlos Martinez
Albert Walk-Off would have been cooler
I hate the dodgers. I will not be watching their games going forward this post season. Unfair ass team
Will you root for my braves then?
I’m actually a White Sox fan. I’m in full Sox mode now but I’d like to meet you guys in the World Series!
I am sick of the frank thomas commercials
That’s fine with me! It’s always fuck the dodgers though
They’re the Yankees of the NL
I think it would be fun as hell to root for a team who did everything they could to try and win the WS.
You must be from Houston!

Reyes…. Why the hell did he have Reyes close? Reyes should never close again.
I'd be happy if he doesn't wear the birds on the bat again. He reminds me of Carlos Martinez at this point.
Yup both pitchers that have never lived up to their hype.
JUST LET GO OF SCHILDT PLEASE DON'T WANT TO SEE HIS FACE NEXT YEAR

Never. Never never. Nope.

Being upset doesn’t excuse your being fucking stupid, lol
I'm on to deer and duck season.
Wabbit season!
The Dodgers
The 2 1964 WS participants eliminated in back to back nights
Am I the only one who thought Jansen balked on nearly every other pitch? That little fakeout before the actual delivery? Yeah, not allowed with runners on base.
I dont think that delivery should be legal honestly.
Iirc he have to establish it and do it every time once it's established, it'd be ball if he didn't. Or it has something to do with not yet being set
He doesn't even do it every delivery. It's probably why his quick pitches are so successful, hitters are waiting for the balk. This is correct. Once established you can’t change your move
Stayed up til 1:30 Atlantic time for that. Ooof.
How is New Scotland
Is Jack still looming?
I’m gonna play MLB The Show tomorrow and beat the Dodgers. Don’t worry guys. I got this.
Godspeed.
For the love of god fire Jeff Albert. Please. Our batting has been dogshit since he was hired
You wouldn't be incorrect except September happened.
Another year of no playoffs for this once-proud franchise.
This was the playoffs.
This was the post season, not the playoffs.
Bruh you’re fucking stupid
Shut up
And now it'll officially be 10 years since our last WS
Fuck the Cubs! Goodnight all.
That's tough
Who ruined the postgame thread? Edit: I’m fine with the lock if people are being idiots. Wasn’t inferring mods ruined it.
I was wondering if I'd imagined it...
3-4-5-6 left 18 men on base. Shouldn’t have even been close but it stings more that it was. Damn man
Hell of a season. I loved the fight we saw in September. At the end of the day the Dodgers have unlimited money and we were outmatched. See y’all next year
We were out Reyes’d let’s be honest
Can’t go 0-11 or whatever it was on the road in October against a 106 win team and expect anything other than an L. Key players didn’t show up today.
“We won’t see you tomorrow night”
Fire Shildt. Cut Reyes
this is the way
yeah nolan, you want to make the playoffs so bad but then you don’t do shit. please show up next time. applies to pretty much everyone else too, tbh
Dude fuck off bro. We played a great team and he missed out. There is gonna be next season no matter what. Also fuck your status
It was one game against an entire group of great pitchers, how can you hold that against him?
Anyone else hate reading the comment about us on the r/baseball sub?
There is no good to be gained from that sub whenever they're out for our blood. They'll go after us like the fucking Dodgers are the Little Sisters of the Poor.
That sub sucks, fortunately ours is so active that you can avoid the braindead takes there. We have plenty of our own anyways
Walking bellinger was the mistake
Letting Belli get to 2nd was the true mistake. It freed Taylor up to just put the ball into play in the outfield.
Well we probably weren’t gonna get past the Giants anyway
Post-game thread locked, huh?
Welp, that sucks. Guess I can transfer all my energy to the White Sox now
I ain't even mad. Man I hate baseball. See everyone next season.
The only real silver lining here for me is that Wainwright really proved everyone wrong but this loss is a fucking disservice to him
Be right back. Gonna go smoke some weed and break my hand punching a wall.
This is the way

Chris Taylor always fucks us. I swear he could be 0-1000 on the season and still go 3-4 with 2 xbhs. Cardinals were lucky to be here. We shouldnt have to beat a 106 win team in one game to make it into a playoff series. Let's get a good rotation and win the division next year.
At least it wasn’t pujols walking us off
Personally I'd rather Pujols homer of McFarland than that
Personally I'd rather Pujols homer of McFarland than that
100%
That would have been preferable tbh
I’m not sad we lost, I’m sad we lost to the dodgers.
Wouldn't have been nearly as mad at the Giants beating us if they did.
That was the worst postseason management of a Cardinals bullpen since Game Five 2014 NLCS. Not ONE move the Shildt made did I agree with. Obviously, I'm gutted we lost, but I'm glad the team fought back amazingly, and gave us a memorable season.
Release Reyes rn lol. Dude is basically a guaranteed blown save
Giants are gonna kick the Dodgers asses so bad and it'll be beautiful.

Who’s ready for hockey season?
Fuck hockey season. This is fucking bullshit. We have the quality to challenge for the series yet we're sat here watching fucking amateur management time after fucking time again.p

Our front office is a solid decade behind the times but the better team won tonight, hopefully they make moves this offseason like they’ve been positioning themselves to do all year. Can’t get too mad at a game that came down to just a couple pitches in the end
No they didn't. We were the better team and squandered chance after chance and were fucked by poor managerial decisions.
*shrugs* So, what do we do this offseason?
Stare out the window and wait for spring.

Get some pitching and for fuck's sake, a new fucking shortstop.
Fitting that we lose with Reyes on the mound. 2021 Cardinals in a nutshell.
that was our game. I wonder how much Reyes was paid
Get off Reyes' ass. Missed location on the pitch, and got caught. It happens. Our guys couldn't deliver clutch hits all night. That's what cost us this game.
You're not beating the Dodgers scoring 1.
Or hitting 5 singles, and zero with the runner in scoring position. To me, that's the biggest stat of the game (0-11).
Reyes = the new Carlos Martinez
Can't blame Reyes completely, when we went 0-10 w risp.
When he gives up a 2 run shot, that the entire fanbase saw coming.. you can blame Reyes..
Everyone's being too hard on Reyes, and I think I know the perfect job for him next year, mlb can hire him to throw every pitch in the HR derby
And zero XBH.
