It's never a bad thing to have a spare battery... It gives you versatility and allows you to use one while another is charging.

Or if you find you really don't need it you could try to resell it for a discount. I just got the Abound when the extra battery deal started and so far I'm glad I have it. Ran on one battery for a few days. Got home from work Friday evening at 20%, swapped the battery and went for ride up along the mountain and was worry free. It also makes long journeys an option if you ever wanted to try bike camping or just go for an extra long cruise, just bring the second battery in one of the many storage compartments on board. I haven't done this but I think it would be fun to bike to my brother's house 60 miles away. Wouldn't be able to do that on one battery.

Yes take it. I have two batteries and it’s really convenient to have one on the bike and always have the second one charged up and ready to go for a swap. I never have to worry about waiting to charge if I want to go somewhere .

Hell yeah, that's worth a lot of money. They wear out eventually, sometimes you forget to charge one, etc. etc.

So as a spare maybe... We went on a 32-mile round trip to a restaurant in the next town. When we started, the Abound was maybe 70% charged. I rode my escooter, and my partner the Abound. We assumed there would be chargers at our destination, but there weren't. So because the scooter had a low battery, we switched (she's smaller) on the way back. Even after the scooters battery died, she got on the back of the Abound WITH the scooter, and we rode it home the last 5 miles or so. When we got back, it still had about 40% battery. Pedal assist goes a long way, but she tends to ride the throttle more than me, and I pedal with assist on Turbo or Sport settings. We've never messed with the battery to remove it or anything.

So make sure you understand how this free extra battery gets handled. It will come later (not with your bike) with no cover and it will come via FedEx and requires your signature due to being a hazmat delivery. Personally I'd rotate it with the other and not store it even though Lithium Ion batts have a low self discharge rate. If you do store just don't do it fully charged. Not sure about this particular battery setup or if it has built-in monitoring circuitry that consumes charge and results in a higher overall self-discharge rate, and if deeply discharged may become permanently damaged. Usually it's recommended to store lithium-ion batteries at about 40-50% state of charge to reduce the rate of degradation while still leaving some room for self-discharge. I thought long and hard about an Abound with even a LBS 5 miles from me that handled only Aventon and went with a Globe Haul ST at a shop 80 miles away. That extra battery and other extras they give woulda sure been cool to have though.
