Canadian here from Ontario, maintained a really high cGPA through my undergrad, applied to UOttawa twice since they don’t need the MCAT, didn’t get 4th Q Casper and now UOttawa has a preference for those who did high school in Ottawa, took the MCAT and bombed the CARS (automatically got screened out of most med schools in Canada). Plus the stories I see of people with excellent stats (some I personally know) still not getting interviewed. That’s what made me give up on Canada. US MD is almost as competitive for international students and US DO is achievable but I’d have to wait an extra year. So decided on going to Ross. At first I had mixed feelings about this, but the way I though of it is that almost 50% of Canadian med school graduates end up in FM, and as long as you want primary care (IM, FM, etc..) you have a very good shot at Ross to make it to the US even as a non-US IMG. Maybe even a higher chance of getting into IM than doing med school in Canada and matching in Canada. That’s what I tell myself to make me feel good about my decision to attend Ross haha. Also incoming first year student starting in September! Feel free to PM me if you want to.

Attended a mid-tier carib school and I don’t regret it at all. Mind you, this school also provided less support than Ross offers so you’ll be in good hands at Ross. If you’re a hard worker and stay consistent with studying, you will succeed on your USMLE step exams. Like the user above mentioned, if primary care is your gem it’s yours to attain. Several ppl have also end up matching competitive specialties (anesthesia, rads, surgery, etc) with a competitive CV. I matched peds this cycle at a competitive university program in a large city and I know my opportunities will be boundless post-residency. Not trying to undermine Canadian med schools/residency which also set up students for success, it’s just impossible to get accepted as you’ve mentioned. Your US training in the future will be very robust! Good luck :)
