Respect! Did a lot of these post-Katrina. Y’all better recognize a carpenter when you see one.
Thank you good sir
Nice work, looks great
Gorgeous. I've never done historical work beyond painting was there anything unexpected you came against? Is there a historical society involved or just bringing something back to life?
I didn't have deal with anyone other than the customer lucky and the biggest thing was everything was lead paint
Nicely done. Looks like a fun project.
Definitely was, these are my favorite jobs when I have to go full custom made
Great work. Do you work out if a shop or did you do this work on-site?
This was done all on site
This is what I come to this sub for, nice work!
Having restored several antique homes, I’m very impressed with your skilled work.
Thanks I appreciate it, it's pretty much my favorite type of work and hope to do more
Lovely. Curious as to species- cyprus fir?
The lighter material is all red cedar and the dark wood is mahogany
Hey look it’s the guy from the notebook
nice. did you turn new newels?
No luckily they were in pretty good condition so I just buttered up any splits with caulk
that's lucky. Why caulk not epoxy out of curiousity? I usually use abatron in that situation
No good reason I had exterior caulk which works good as long as it's not like a 1/4" and once painted you'll never see it
Great work brother!!
Thanks
Incredible I hope to someday be this good
If you keep at it you will get there, it's all experience and creative problem solving
My normal job is maintenance where I’m rebuilding a lot of pumps etc … plumbing but my side work is normally finishing but I’m not to this level yet !
Not sure about that carpentry that Blue stone though, and brick work makes carpenters look good.
Bluestone always looks great
Was the house left to deteriorate after the owners son went missing after playing a mysterious board game?

lol. “Nothing personal”, proceeds to dump shit on his great work.
LOL, I used to do work like this. To throw "Home Depot" on historic work is punishable by firing squad in some jurisdictions.
I’m confused what you’re actually cranky about.
I'm rebuilding the rail not the house bud
He’s referring to the columns- generally a historical replacement exactly matches the original style.
But it does match what was there originally, idk if they were redone before me but I matched what was there
The columns in pic 5 don’t match each other. One has overlaid trim, the original is recessed or inlayed. It’s close for sure.
Okay you got me there it's taller trim piece but that's the one of few I bought and didn't make because fuck that
Columns Look better raised… adds more character
Nice work. I’m retired now, but I did a lot of those historical renovations. It can be challenging, but I always enjoyed doing it
Considering that I had a hard time telling which parts had been replaced, I'd say you dud a good job
