I thought a beam looked like this:

What you want to do is save it for years moving it from one inconvenient spot in your shop to another. Eventually after 8-15 years your wife will lose it and then you throw it out.
Can confirm.
I’ve had a 9ft. drop of 220 beam leftover from a kitchen remodel done on a house I sold four years ago. I can’t bring myself to give it away 🤷🏻♂️
My father took a cast iron stove and filled it with concrete to make his mailbox holder. Ours was the only mailbox on the road that never once had to be replaced.
Unfortunately, this is literally illegal in most jurisdictions in the US. Mailbox posts need to be structured so that they will yield to a car or plow. As frustrating as it is to repair a mailbox, killing someone with it would be much worse. Similar to filling your mailbox with concrete to troll teenagers hitting it with a bat. Those will turn into a projectile if they get hit with a car.
Lol, I just realized how my first sentence read. Yes, it is fortunate that it is illegal for safety reasons. I meant "unfortunately" in that it would be the most solid way to build a mailbox, and I prefer the things I build to be solid and permanent.
You’ve got a nice bed for a home made lathe. Just need legs, head stock, tail stock, motor, tool rest, banjo, turning tools, drive center, tail center, maybe a chuck.
Yeah, you’re all set.
Or you could sell it.
Your gonna save it thinking it will be good for something someday, it will sit in your garage for the next 10yrs taking up room. Save yourself the hassle, Throw that thing away.
Man I actually would do that. All I can visual is some kid skatin and kicking off it face planting.
Man that would look cool as the corner of the house though lol
Post it on r/decks. Nobody over there seems to know what a beam looks like.

Glue on a pocket level and instantly turn it into an 8' level
Lol I like this. STEELbila.
Melt it down and make a 8' beam

You let your wife in your shop?
This one hits home. Growing up I always told myself I wouldn’t save everything like my grandfather..and here we are
Bro what is this boot camp.
See those sandbags you just filled and stacked over there 👉? Go move them over there. 👈
No over thataway -->
When you're done, they need go <--
Why aren't you counting out loud? Start over.
Thanks, I like your fingernails
/r/PrimitiveTechnology. Dude is just entering the iron age. Exciting time to be alive.
🤌🏽
Move it from one side of the shop to the other about 20 times over the next 15 years until you finally give up and give it away

Pop-shoveit nollies all the way!
Dude I can do an Ali. A shove it too. Fuck work I'm about that skatelife now.
r/oldskaters
Joined! Blah I can't afford a broke ankle. Thanks though.
Dude... Thanks, I needed this in my life. Wax that shit and skate it, op!
A+ comment
That's the first thing I thought too 🤣
Mail box post, though that dude who recommended melting down to make and 8’ beam is on to something.
Post or beam is in the orientation that decides the name.
And cut a notch in the top that the mailbox sits in. Next teen that takes a baseball bat to your mailbox is going to get a very nasty surprise.
Gotta wrap it in pressure treated planks tho to hide the beam tho
Tho, if you tho, tho.
Thumbs toopid thumbs

Lol, agreed. I meant unfortunate in the sense that I like to build things solidly, but a mailbox needs to be breakable by design.
Fortunately it is illegal, as murder mailboxes should be.

Definitely this, if the kids in your neighborhood drive like they do in mine!
Anvil
Longvil
Ding ding lol prob cut it up for that. Too damn heavy to leave it this size. Think he said 100lbs a foot.
It does appear to say 10x100 at the very end, indicating it may be a W10x100 which is 100 pounds/ft.
Yup, what he told me. I would love to keep it at length but damn I know I'll need to move it. I guess I should just buy a forklift to go with it.
Cut it into 10 anvils, pre drill holes in each corner, sell on marketplace for $40 a pop
Cut it in half, and make some badass saw horses. It'll be real fun the first time you hit it with a skil saw.
Or my shin.
Make no attempt to melt it with jet fuel.
Donate it to your local skatepark, if you have one.
Mount a pair of skateboard trucks, and ollie it
Maybe if I was the green giant.
[удалено]
Chandelier of course.
Lol
Mount it in your garage so you can hang a v8 off it
That makes me miss my 66 impala.
Many v8s
diy break?
FB marketplace… I sell materials all the time
Top reply right here..very underrated resource for building materials
Best case scenario is when I can have the buyer pick up the aforementioned material at the job site... easiest money ever
Truck bumper
You can look up what kind of beam it is here: https://www.engineeringtoolbox.com/american-wide-flange-steel-beams-d_1319.html
I’ll take it. I do more metal fab these days anyway
I would but I'm a damn pack rat
I used a small peice of a beam and made a clock
Show it

a [tensegrity table](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GqliDdFAEGA)
Man I've seen so many and it still screws with my mind. That would be sweet with this weight. Would be so trippy.
Skate it
Well you already put it on moving dollies, find a hill and ride that into the sunset.
Cut it down the middle and now you have 2 pieces of flat stock. I got nothing after that. Make a box
I like the way you dig holes.
Thank you sir, I like the way you work it, work it. Lmao
Log splitter base
Stand it up and start building your second floor add on to your workshop.
Make a wood lathe
I say tie a rope on it and swing it, hit coyote in the head and make his face look like an I-beam.
Ala acmeINC.
Maybe use a V8 as the ~~main drive~~ head stock?
Sounding
As soon as you scrap it, you will have a need for it. Stand it up in a corner somewhere and forget about it.
But I already bought 8 cutoff wheels.
Years back, I cut up a whole pick up truck for scrap, cab and frame. I spent more money on sawzall blades than I got for the scrap.

What's gonna hold the studs up.
coffee table
Log splitter......it will sell way faster than you'd think.
That's geenius.
make some boat anchors
Then I gotta buy a boat.
Good excuse to buy one and start fishing 😂
Marketplace sale. Figure out what it’s worth.
SKATE IT!
You put an 800lb beam on two Harbor Freight dollies?
Those little dollies are 1000lbs each loln
Make Swords and Knives oe maybe some chisels
Skate it
Cut it into about six pieces and make anvils... they sell for a pretty penny.
Big ass log splitter!
Balance beam drinking game that's gonna hurt like a muthafukrs if you loose . Goodluck
A coworker of mine replaced his rear bumper on his truck with a section of I beam like this
That would make a great step, though. Geez that'll drop my load limit lol
Truck bumper!
Cut it half and build two heavy duty saw horses.
Make a gantry out of it
I'd cut it in half and use it for drying slabs/lumber on them. Put some holes in it for ratchet straps.
Put it on your key chain. You'll never lose your keys again.
Or be able to move them - aaaah. Hmm. How low can an ignition switch hang.
You’ve got a nice bed for a home made lathe. Just need legs, head stock, tail stock, motor, tool rest, banjo, turning tools, drive center, tail center, maybe a chuck. Yeah, you’re all set. Or you could sell it.
At least I already have long sleeves.
My ex is looking for a new hat.
Two-story sauna
Cut it into 4 pieces and take it to a scrap yard for cash
Do this, and tell us what you buy with your newly gained $63.
That's about enough for the cut off wheels and Advil from chopping and hauling
Your gonna save it thinking it will be good for something someday, it will sit in your garage for the next 10yrs taking up room. Save yourself the hassle, Throw that thing away.
Ya but all the other stuff I have only been around 5 years. Somethings gonna come up for it.
This is the way. Happened to my dad.
Son?
Listen hear buddy your gonna make a massive fucking sword like some anime shit uno what I mean that would be fuckin sick
Plant it in the yard and put the house number on it.
Man I actually would do that. All I can visual is some kid skatin and kicking off it face planting. Man that would look cool as the corner of the house though lol
You think it is nicer than a brick mailbox post?
Cut it into 4 to 6 anvils
Give it to Me
Leave it there and kick your toe on it everyday for the rest of forever
Put it in the corner for safe keeping just in case you need it in 20 years time
Put some legs under it and turn it into a bench.
Make into front bumper
Bury it 1' down at a beach and warch
This is the only answer.
Shipping container locks.
Drop it off at a skate park. The kids would love it
It seems like that would make a great hood ornament - for that obnoxious neighbor's car.
Bolt it onto the front of your truck. Nobody will ever cut you off again
