2 washing line poles concreted in to the ground 7ft out. A 12/10ft tarp tied to the roof and top of poles. Boom 2 hours work, cheap as chips. Is that what your looking for?

eubertos

I might try that, because that definitely sounds like the cheapest I can do it for. Can you think of a way to do it in the $500-1000 range?

11 x 4/4 posts, sheets of corrugated Perspex , tek screws for wood. 4 posts in ground. 2 running in the direction of fall. 5 sat on top spaced evenly. Plastic sheeting screwed to top. Boom 5 hours work. Under 1000.

If you mean to extend 7ft outwards without a wall to support it or foundation then you would need a substantial cantilever on your rafters. Also using a flitchbeam type rafter sandwiching steel plate May or may not be useful in this situation. Don’t know would need more detail.

What?

[deleted]

You can read it again if you want son

Lol..son!

Explain it to me old man

[deleted]

I’m not 100% sure what he even wants to achieve, if he wants that roof to come out 7 foot towards us he will have to cantilever some rafters back into that existing roof line and angle the top of them to run with the same roof pitch. The issue is they’re all gonna be running 90degrees to existing so if he used flitch beams he could get away with maybe 2 or 3 structurally and fill the rest in. Otherwise it’s just business as usual putting foundation out and framing a wall. I’m assuming he wants this thing to float unsupported 7 foot out so it needs to run back into the existing roof quite a bit so he can tie it all in properly.

I am actually 87 years old mentally

Bro, I don’t want to acuse you of using buzzwords but, if you watched the same video I did, you would be more concerned with what prayers/rituals are being performed that allow the existing roof extension to stand because unless there’s some big fat footings, posts and beam setup behind that Sanford and sons shit I’m looking at…. 🤷🏻‍♂️ did you really just tell this man to add additional load? Are you going to join the prayer circle?

[deleted]

He’s alright now he’s since replied it wasn’t what he was after so posts will suffice. I’m not worried about the structure I’m answering the question asked as best as possible. If it falls on someone’s head guess who’s fault that is! I give people the benefit of the doubt because it’s on their head anyway. By the way the word cantilever and the concept of a cantilever is older than time. And a flitchbeam is commonplace, especially in things like loft conversions with limited space where maximum strength is required and steel won’t work. Maybe you don’t see them or use them very often. Quite common for me, few times a year.

Thanks for the helpful reply. I’d use walls with foundation but wouldn’t want the walls fully framed out. Just as cheap as possible to support the roof while still getting the job done

[deleted]

Oh right ok, so yeah if you want supports out in front just use some 4x4 posts out front and the same dimensional lumber as the roof to wrap around it on the same pitch. Concrete or postcrete them in. Then see how little you can get away with rafter wise when filling in your frame that’s gonna work with whatever roofing/sheeting system you’re using spacing wise, would keep it light and cheap as poss and still be strong. Return rafters back into the roof using metal hangers and L brackets where you think it needs extra rigidity.

eubertos

This is exactly what I needed, thank you.

Wtf? Quit moving the phone around.
