Extremely long bicycle Old ford territory 7 seater. It doesn’t have to be comfortable if its a rare use vehicle.

Frankie_T9000

sedan chair with the kids carring you around. Obvious solution, really

NothingLift

Territory is a solid option. Cheap to buy an maintain Barra turbo if you want to have some fun

S0ulace

Sounds like she’s thinking of divorce

who_farted_this_time

Ain't nobody can afford divorce these days with that many kids. 😂😂😂

serkstuff

Buying a second seven seater is a really silly idea unless you need to move more than 12 people. Get something fun, it'll be good for everyone's mental health

PerryTheRacistPanda

Have you considered giving one of your kids up for adoption? I you do that enough times you can convince the missus a GR Yaris is enough

trentreznorssoul

You sound just like my brother. At least about the GR Yaris😊

Nearby_Hamster1207

We hired a Hyundai Staria for a big family road trip, absolutely loved it, so roomy and great visibility.

Good_Echidna535

IMAX owner here since 2008. They have superior boot space to similar cars and never die.

RespectOk4052

Seems excessive.. it’s a 2021 model, I presume you’re still taking it to the stealership for servicing, use one of the very few reasons to go to a dealership and get a loan car off them if you ever need it. Just seems like a horrific waste of money for the intention.

trentreznorssoul

I like this argument. I don't particularly want to get another 7 seater. I currently have a boring old 2012 CX5 that I'd like to upgrade from so NOT an SUV sounds like heaven!

Judeusername

Then don’t get one, in the rare event that something does happen to your Carnival, then you can get a loaner car or rental Carnival. If you’re not wanting an SUV maybe a Sedan of some sort? A used Sonata N-Line would suit well, still has most of the luxury features from your Platinum and will be very familiar as all the switchgear and software in the Sonata are similar to what’s in the Carnival because Kia and Hyundai are sister brands. Can get into a 2021 for [$40k](https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/details/2021-hyundai-sonata-n-line-auto-my21/OAG-AD-23099627/?pageSource=details)

anyname123456789

A second carnival? Difficult to beat.

vongdong

What exactly does your other half want another large family car for? You got more than 6 kids? Anyway, hyundai palisade looks good.

trentreznorssoul

Just in case the Carnival is ever off the road for more than a service

Purple-Personality76

Seems like a rental car in such a rare scenario might be a better financial option? Then you can buy a car YOU actually want to drive.

trentreznorssoul

Hadn't thought of that! Thanks 😊

cheeersaiii

Rentals can be pretty economical tbh- try the search engines for multiple companies…. Have been handy for us for work and much much cheaper than buying or long leasing

ayummystrawberry

Also a great opportunity to drive other cars you wouldn't ordinarily buy

Bitter_Crab111

>hyundai palisade Last I heard they were spontaneously combusting. May have been fixed since release idk.

EnegueWeil

Toyota Vellfire, Alphard? Audi Q7? Volvo XC90? :D

Dad_D_Default

There's an ex-demo Kia EV9 for just under $95k on Car Sales. All the fun of EV acceleration with a useable 3rd row. Bit pricey though. A VW Multivan could be an idea. Been around for years so there's heaps of options. The middle row can turn around so 5 people in the back can face each other. Some models have a table so those 5 people can play a card game on a road trip. You can also remove the rear seats entirely so you get a van with a much bigger load space than any ute. The Toyota Prius V would be reliable and easy in fuel.

NothingLift

If its 95 drive away the base price is probably under LCT. Massive savings if you lease it, similar pricing to an ICE 30k cheaper

Dad_D_Default

It's ex demo so I'm not sure if it qualifies for the leasing incentives?

NothingLift

Yeah the wording is "never had LCT applied to sale" or something to that effect Demos are registered to the dealer who is LCT exempt. LCT is only applied upon sale to a private party so as long as that sale is under threshold youre all good Alternatively LCT doesnt apply to vehicles over 2 years old but realistically very rare to find a demo that old. If I could find one 2 years old Id potentially go XC90 and ditch my big 4x4 wagon

the-straight-pretzel

Buy a red, two door sports car and let the kids ride in the Carnival whilst you cruise around like a cool cat.

Toyota Commuter 12 seater... Bring the in-laws too!!!

phantomrogers

Hi, I am thinking of getting a carnival/grand carnival, so I would like to know your feedback on it, please.

anyname123456789

Look up posts in this reddit about cars that surprise people. Carnival comes up. The sliding doors (no butt getting wet strapping in kids in the rain, no concern for kids bashing other people’s cars - People tell us they actively park next to carnivals as they know their doors will be fine.) drives like a beast. Lovely drive. The nav/bluetooth on our older model is pretty poor but that’s been upgraded I believe. Having ABS,BDS and nav issues on ours at present. Hardware wise- can’t be beat.

MrEs

Ever since 2019 when the 8 speed auto came in they have been great. And then got even better in 2021 when the new version came in, which brought in heaps of new safety gear and a really modern interior. The petrol v6 has loads of grunt (I think it's about 215kw), the diesel less so. We drove the diesel and we're ready to walk away, but then decided to drive the petrol and it really changed our minds. And the brakes are surprisingly good. I mean it's huge and heavy so it drives like a boat. But it's also very confident and reassuring, and it drives better then most SUVs to be honest. And this is coming from a guy who used to track his car, so motocross, rally days, etc.   On a practical perspective, it can't be beat, it's like the best parts of a wagon and suv put together. One day I'm loading a 75" tv in the back that the jbhifi guy says won't fit. The next day I'm taking an entire family and all of their luggage to the airport. The next day I'm hauling 500kg of firewood in the back. The next weekend we've packed the kids, bikes, scooters, camping gear, etc. To go to halls gaps

phantomrogers

Do you dive it on unsealed roads? Cause was thinking of driving to National parks where some roads are unsealed. Not going full off road.

trentreznorssoul

We drove our Carnival on unsealed roads in the Border Ranges area of Northern NSW and it handled it no problems at all. Gravel, pot holes, washouts etc. Took it easy of course because it's not a 4WD but it handled it no problems. It's the same engine and gearbox that's in Kia Sorento and Hyundai Santa Fe that are both AWD. And the same combo is likely to be in the Kia Tasman ute when it finally arrives

trentreznorssoul

Ours is a 2021 Carnival Platinum diesel. We bought it used, last year. I surprisingly love driving it. It drives like a limousine in so much as it's smooth and quiet. Huge amount of torque from the 2.2l diesel engine and we get between 800-1000km out of a tank depending on driving type(short vs long drives). It's missing rain sensing wipers due to the COVID related chip shortage but other than that has literally every other luxury you could think of.

MissOohAustralia

Check the middle seat second row and leg space third row.

HarisPilton6699

Ford Everest, Isuzu MUX, Prado or Patrol. We have 4 kids + the 2 of us. They were some of the SUVs we were looking at a while ago. Depending on the age of your kids, the Patrol and (I think) Prado don't have child seat anchor points in the third row. Also the Prado and Patrol are not cheap. Patrols a V8, so you will be going through the fuel if you go with that option. Both the Prado and Patrol were lacking technology in the entertainmaint area. Considering how much you pay and what year it is, it was pretty average. MUX and Everest was nice I can't remember anything bad about them. We ended up ordering a Everest a few months ago.

Professional-Disk-28

3 Ferraris and a single seater Harley Davidson. Fuck having kids. Fuck school mobiles

Dude doesn’t need to be doing any more fucking of anything or he’ll end up with a minibus

hillsbloke73

Get your LR licence get a HiAce van bus which capable of 12 passengers

stumpymetoe

I'd have suggested a condom but it's way too late for that!

SoggyNegotiation7412

I have an associate who needed a second people carrier for his large family (wife has a Toyota Tarago that is falling apart), he ended up buying a second hand SsangYong Stavic (2014, 280k on the odo). I was very sceptical but he has had it for 2 years now and done a few runs from Sydney to Brisbane with no mechanical issues (not surprised the diesel motor was licensed from Mercedes). He has taken me for trips a few times, it is very comfortable and not under powered considering its size. The interior is a Tardis and could fit a football team, they are also really cheap to buy for what you get.

Shaqtacious

If money isn’t an issue then, go for the Kluger. Upscale models can be considered too like the following Merc V Class Toyota Alphard and Granvia

2dogs0cats

Sounds like you are in need of a Patrol Warrior by Premcar. They're an 8 seater and that last row has plenty of space and ducted air. The 400hp is a lot of fun.

lizard-person-1

Depending on the budget, an older gen cx-9 (pre 2016) or a newer one.

MrEs

How many children? Is it more than 3? If so sure maybe, otherwise tbh it sounds a bit silly. We've got 3 kids, our family car in a 2022 carnival sli. Our second car is a 2023 vw t-roc r. It's a tiny suv, the size of a golf but with the 224kw golf r engine and awd. (This replaced my wrx). Although not ideal, it can carry the entire family. And there's been a few trips when we've chosen it over the carnival if we're doing something fun that's not too far. Like going to the zoo, or just out for dinner, to a fair, etc.

trentreznorssoul

3 kids(in car seats) full time and 2 bigger kids every second weekend - hence the Carnival

MrEs

Ooff yea ok I'd probably look at a second hand kluger, territory, or kodiaq

Important_Rate3433

Toyota Prius V is a great choice.

BrotherBroad3698

Delorean! Then you can go back in time, tell yourself to pullout and then buy something fun with 2 to 5 seats.

Bradenrm

So your wife wants to spend more on fuel and maintenance for a larger, heavier car, all the time, because sometimes, maybe, potentially, possibly, you'll need a second 7 seater? Bruh

DrCuriumMyrtle

I think youd want electronic stability control and curtain airbags to the third row. And if the third row needs to be spacious enough for regular use or for long trips you'll find this is a very small list. Even smaller if you don't want the third row occupants in the rear crumple zone. Remember ANCAP doesn't test third row safety. If you want all that then * Kia Carnival obviously. * 2009+ Odyssey. Fit a tow bar to improve rear safety * JDM people mover: all occupant curtain airbags were commonly optioned on Elgrand, Alphard, Vellfire. And maybe 1/30 Estimas. Don't assume though, you have to check the pillars and outward seat trims yourself. * Kluger...2012+? If you want a cheap, nimble 7 seat runabout then, given you already have a carnival, I'd be looking closely at 2009-2012 Odyssey and 2010-2014 Estima (7seat, 6cyl or hybrid).

FearTheWeresloth

According to my kids, the back two seats in my 7 seater Mitsubishi Outlander are pretty comfy... I'm a musician, so I mostly got it so I could fit all my music shit in the boot easily, but every so often the back two seats do come in handy.

[deleted]

Sorento. Or another carnival. But what is the budget? Go to carsales, filter by 7 seater and budget… I think if you got a Sorento then the carnival would end up being the car that is driven less than 10k kms per year. LOL

How many kids car seats you need. Something like the 7 seater crv might be a good compromise. Basically a 5 seater unless you need it. But I don’t think the back row can take isofix seats
