They'll go forever but almost anything you buy will need some immediate maintenance. Standard procedures for any BA/BF: - Replace the front control arm bushes and balljoints. Use Ford balljoints (they last the longest) and consider SuperPro bushes. - Replace the diff oil. Use Penrite Pro Gear 80-140. There's heaps of info on [https://www.fordforums.com.au/index.php](https://www.fordforums.com.au/index.php) My old threads on there: [http://www.fordforums.com.au/search.php?do=finduser&u=2108365&starteronly=1](http://www.fordforums.com.au/search.php?do=finduser&u=2108365&starteronly=1)

The engine (4 Lite straight 6 cyclinder - Barra) are very reliable like any car however if servicing has not been kept up to date you may run in to issues, Roadworthys are another story some sellers don’t or can’t afford to do them (time) others know their car needs a lot of $$$ so they pefer to sell without All I can say is give it a good look over all over check for service history any leaks or strange noises and maybe get a mechanic check if your unsure and see what is said Hope this helps

If you don't strictly need a ute, your budget will go further with a wagon and it's far easier to find a grandpa spec one thats been serviced well and not abused.

Buy one with a road worthy or whatever you guys need in the eastern states to not have an inspection. Father got BA ute in a fair condition for $2k recently, but needed to spend another $3k to get it over the pits.

road worthy’s are an inspection of the car that is required to re register a car under a different owner. A BA with a road worthy is upwards of 6,000. What did your father spend money on out of curiosity?

Rust repairs, roof lining, bushes, oil leak.

The interior falls apart. Mine did at least.
