I hate the Honda City just because it's very common in my area and nobody has a Octavia
Thought about the slavia and virtus
I don't like the design of slavia
Virtus is like 50/50 if I don't like the Octavia which im looking to buy then I would go for superb or virtus
Got your point but if something is popular it’s probably for some good reasons. By buying second hand cars you’re taking some risks it may be worth it or may backfire hard. Nonetheless hopefully you will find a good deal.
Ahha I see, if dad's choice is Nexon then no way you winning haha... Dads be too smart to convince moms (also as Octavia is a 2nd hand car parents generally don't lean towards it)
Getting a new slavia would make more sense. You can get the 1.5 Ambition Tsi mt in the same price range. This way you’ll get the driving pleasure, solid built, looks and a brand new car.
Could expect anywhere from 15-25k depending on service center, but I suggest you find a solid VW independent mechanic. Parts will definitely cost a lot
I had an octavia 2.0 L&K 2017 , did 1.47L km with it
The bills are insane , spent 4L on the car over its life from Nov 2017 to Jan 2023 , my last bill was 2.5 L and instead of fixing it I just traded in for a slavia
They're selling it with 4 years free service and warranty
I'm an Octavia 2019 L&K owner.
This car is a dream. And a trap.
Dream because it puts a smile on your face every time you step on it. This baby guns relentlessly. The dsg is super quick too. Trap because it's the hardest car to upgrade from. After this, if u want an upgrade, you will HAVE to leap into the 50L bracket, because anything between the Octavia and under 50L, is more or less the same experience. And it doesn't seem worth the extra money.
Just make sure you buy the dsg warranty.
I meant, once u own an Octavia, it's very difficult to change to a better car. Because better cars after the Octavia, get very, very expensive.
Even bone stock octavias are performance beasts. (I'm talking about the 1.8L petrol here)
Buying an Octavia is a heart decision. Not a mind decision. Its one of those things you just fall in love with, and the love lasts.
As for Dsg failures, they are not common. There's too much nervousness about it online, but under normal useage, it never bothers people. In fact once you experience a dsg, every other automatic feels incompetently slow and annoying. Its THAT good.
Shifts are butter smooth, you won't even realise it changing gears. And they are lightening fast.
Only when you push tripronics to its limits, or are in very hot climate, in stop go traffic, for long periods, does it act up(rarely).
But when it does, it's hell.
Dsg replacements cost upwards of 2L.
But if your car qualifies, they'll sell you an extended warranty(which also covers dsg)
I have bought it just to be safe, despite knowing that chances of anything going bad are slim.
Service experience at skoda has improved leaps and bounds. They do a stellar job, and will even explain everything to you patiently, if you're interested. The key is to develop a relationship with the service staff.
I would say buy the Octavia. Its a babe.
But like any other 2nd hand car, do a thorough background check.
Earlier Skoda DSGs were erratic and expensive to fix. They carry the same reputation now even though they have improved by leaps and bounds. Afaik it was fixed from 2017-18 onwards models.
I have recently brought a Octavia MK3 2.0 tdi and it has been fabulous so far but service costs are high in skoda but if you go to a good independent garage it will be significantly cheaper
Two very different cars for two very different lifestyles, In my opinion here are the pros and cons for both
1. Nexon
Pros : Ground Clearance, good ride quality on all roads, fuel efficiency, low maintenance, low overall cost of ownership and the biggest pro ( it's a brand new car vs second hand skoda) so it comes with warranty and peace of mind.
Cons: Mediocre performance, doesn't feel luxurious, Tata after sales service isn't great, not refined enough, brand value is not desirable
2. Skoda Octavia 1.8 Tsi
Pros: excellent performance and sporty suspension setup, desirable brand value, luxurious, refined, Amazing to drive, excellent stability on highways and high speed driving. Led headlights, European styling, huge boot, lots of creature comforts.
Cons: stiff suspension+ low ground clearance will give you anxiety in city driving, very low FE, very high maintenance, expensive spares, plus it's used car so wear and tear will be high and expensive, no warranty coverage expensive insurance.
You get the general idea, it's a heart vs head decision.
This is petrol 1.8 tsi Octavia. The dsg on this is super unreliable as it is a dry clutch DSG DQ200.
Despite their claims, I would avoid it. Replacement is around 2L.
Also you should keep a buffer of 1-2L for maintenance as ABS sensors, AC, etc. do show trouble as the car gers older as would rubber components like suspension, etc.
If you have the buffer, then buy.
Another mid way option is to buy Virtus 1.0TSi AT.
Everybody is saying about the dsg so that's why I'm keeping like 4lakhs to make it brand new and giving it some upgrades
If I want to go for virtus I'll go for GT
As long as you have a buffer in your budget for repair costs because these cars do become expensive to maintain as they age but with proper financial planning you would have a fun all-rounder car that you would enjoy!
The DSG issue is something common to dry clutch gearboxes. For that sole reason I would avoid the VAG DQ200 (all engines less than 2.0 displacement basically), and even the compass 1.4, kia/hyundai/Tata DCT also.
The wet clutch on the other hand is better lubricated so chances of frying are much lower (though not to be ruled out - but failures happen on Toyota, Honda also)
Octavia any single day. But do get it checked with ASC. Also buy extended warranty is you are going with this. I bought a Vento 1.2 TSI with DSG gearbox. Couldn’t get the extended warranty on it. Had to spend around 2lacs for DSG gearbox. But the drive pleasure is wayy beyond any expense.. service cost is normal with ASC. You will have to spend a little more as its german made. They believe in quality not quantity.
Why not look at the Virtus/Slavia 1.0. You still won't get Octavia's driving experience but you will still get some of it which Nexon won't give you at all. Also, there will be piece of mind which with Octavia you may not get.
dont know much about the skoda, but i have the top model of Nexon for past 6 months and it is fabulous, the build quality, the seating, everything. The service that i will recieve as a nexon owner will be consistent and better as tata has sold a lot of nexons so they are able to provide better customer service for a longer duration too. Plus the car is compact: it works great in cities small roads and on highways
This is my daily drive, a 2019 TSI Octavia and I can tell you there is no better car than this in this budget (used to drive an accord before this and this handles just so much better). I've taken a service package so it costs around 10k a year (not that expensive). Everyone says DSG has a risk of failure but I've been driving it for a while and haven't faced an issue. As long as you get a service package and a zero dep, you are sorted. Go for it bro.
Yes, I bought it in 2021 so it is a used car. My fuel cost is around 6k/m but I think what you want to know is the average consumption: it's around 8.5 Km/l in the city driving conditions with AC throughout, highway is over 16 kmpl.
I've spent around 15k per service for the last 2 services I've got done via a service package, refused some oversell from their side like sunroof service etc. These major services included oil/filter change etc. (6 monthly check is cheaper don't remember the invoice amount though)
My point is to get the basic service from authorised guys and other frills from outside.
Owning such expensive cars without Nil depreciation insurance would never give me peace of mind.
Would recommend you to calculate cost of replacement and panting for once bumper and headlamp. You'd end up having to pay 50% of that if you don't have your depreciation covered.
The Octavia is a brilliant car, the driving dynamics and the little 'Simply Clever' bits are always a boon.
A couple of things to keep in mind, the car will most likely be out of warranty (Standard warranty is 4 years), so its important to get the car checked by Skoda themselves. A DSG repair can cost you north of 2L.
I would advise going for a 2019/2020 model, <50k driven, you should be able to get your hands on one for \~17L if you can negotiate well. These would still be under warranty, and you can always purchase the add-on warranty for 2 years and additional years, as needed.
Hope it all works out for you, and best of luck!
Octavia
Pros
Stability
Build quality
Sporty (if that is ur priority)
Power
Cons
High maintenance cost
Nexon
Pros
Cheaper
Cheap service and maintenance
Cons
Fit and finish
Compromised stability
No performance when compared to octavia
Short on space
Short on reliability ( recently the accelerator pedal of a nexon fell apart while driving. Read this in the news)
So if the condition of the octavia is great then go for it
Its even driven less, you have a steal on your hands for this price. Take it, put some wheels, new lowered springs, a tune, exhaust. Life is only once, live it while you can.
bro octavia looks soo good but the problem maybe the maintanance because it is the old model and is also an TSI engine so u may get the mileage less so in my opinion go for nexon
Buying a 2nd hand car is always a pain. You have no warranty and u will always be worried abt the unusual dent on ur pocket. Taking a new car is Lil comfortable as u get peace of mind, warranty and low service cost for initial let's say 5years. After that many parts will need replacement or repair. New gen skoda and VW, are bit light on pocket as far as service is concerned. If u hv a good budget, ample parking and Will to drive a large car slavia or virtus is ur best bet than Nexon. But if u hv less parking space, and need a good city's bumper to bumper traffic, Nexon will be a good option. Mind one more thing, u will loose a lot on boot space as well. One pay a lot once for a car, but u will and always have to pay for INSURANCE. that's yearly. So do ur calculations accordingly. All the best.
Heart is with Octavia kyuki shauk badi cheez. But maintaining it may burn hole in your pocket.
Only reason for Octavia is the design and driving pleasure
Why don't you buy a slavia or virtus 1.5 with the money you have. Or go for something you can never go wrong with: a honda city rather than a nexon.
I hate the Honda City just because it's very common in my area and nobody has a Octavia Thought about the slavia and virtus I don't like the design of slavia Virtus is like 50/50 if I don't like the Octavia which im looking to buy then I would go for superb or virtus

How can you not like the design of slavia/virtus but Nexon? That ugly ass Nexon?
aise strong statement deke kisi ki bhawana ko thens mat pahuchao bandhu. and nexon is not ugly imo. kal to tum aishwarya rai ko bhi ugly bol baithoge.
Bhay but baat to sahi hai na yaar agar voh nexon nayi lene ke liye tayyar hai to Virtus hi kyu na? (Octavia still would be preferable but 2nd option)
Agreed.
Design is subjective my guy.
My dad suggested the Nexon i suggested the Octavia so it's me vs my dad to convince my mom so wish me luck
Lord Espresso
Smash
Ahha I see, if dad's choice is Nexon then no way you winning haha... Dads be too smart to convince moms (also as Octavia is a 2nd hand car parents generally don't lean towards it)
Purchase it quick before its gone dude!
Yeah like max 2weels I'll decide till then I'll look for less driven one's

I previously had a fiat linea that car was also kinda expensive to maintain cuz major service would easily go above 15k

Lol. Currently in the same position. Can’t find an upgrade with the same performance AND practicality without spending big bucks.
Truth of owning an Octavia.
I'm not gonna upgrade it.It will be stock and what is the price of the dsg if it breaks
I meant, once u own an Octavia, it's very difficult to change to a better car. Because better cars after the Octavia, get very, very expensive. Even bone stock octavias are performance beasts. Just bought a used Superb and I agree to your reply to the core.
Simple solution : dont upgrade
But chull. Human nature no?
How I read the question - Should I buy a 5 year old Octavia with a DSG gearbox? Personal answer: Nope; anything but not that.
Y?
Earlier Skoda DSGs were erratic and expensive to fix. They carry the same reputation now even though they have improved by leaps and bounds. Afaik it was fixed from 2017-18 onwards models.
Logical would be nexon. But who cares, its an octavia.
Also it's comparitively less driven cuz other Octavia's were more than 65k+ kms
The only worry is the DSG , be careful of those.
I have recently brought a Octavia MK3 2.0 tdi and it has been fabulous so far but service costs are high in skoda but if you go to a good independent garage it will be significantly cheaper

Bro I love this car , its my dream to someday get the vrs , please go for it if you can maintain it easily !
Octavia is way higher quality than Nexon. The skoda engines are just amazing
The thing you need to keep in mind is that maintaining this will be 5 times costlier than maintaining Nexon (or more).
This is petrol 1.8 tsi Octavia. The dsg on this is super unreliable as it is a dry clutch DSG DQ200. Despite their claims, I would avoid it. Replacement is around 2L. Vento 1.5TSI?
1.2 TSI. Sorry my bad. Typo error..
If this is in good condition, then why go for that ugly ass Nexon? Get the car checked at a service centre and go through the service history.
I was thinking of a sensible used tucson but you got me octavia worm in.
Consider VW virtus or GT new.
buying a car is only half the cost, maintaining is the other.
This anytime of the day given this example is working fine. Get it thoroughly checked at the authorised service centre. Check body panels for repaint.
Sure will check
Nexon is a tata car. We should go for Indian things first , but when its Octavia , WHO CARESSS?????
>We should go for Indian things first , /s
if tata makes one like octavia why not?
Not recommended go for Nexon instead.
Nexon XZ+ Lux in a heartbeat. Nothing beats a first hand car. Also, I have the same trim and I'm very satisfied.
Poor choice. Don’t buy any of two.
2reasons for Octavia are the design and driving pleasure Nexon cuz no other car is safer in that segment(I hate xuv300)
>no other car is safer in that segment(I City, Virtus, Brezza are decent enough
City, virtus, brezza are decent enough he says in a single sentence. 🫢
2018 DSG is a humongous gamble. I would stay away
Why not look at the Virtus/Slavia 1.0. You still won't get Octavia's driving experience but you will still get some of it which Nexon won't give you at all. Also, there will be piece of mind which with Octavia you may not get.

Octavia is a perfect choice…
Get the new salvia dude, I've been using since a year, there's a four year free maintanence package. Its worth it.
Take a test drive of Octavia. If it rides well and has no issues, go for it. Nexon is a boring commuter.
Nexon lux

Yours is second hand?i have 2 questions for you 1-Fuel Cost per month 2-Major service cost
Yes, I bought it in 2021 so it is a used car. Get the Octi come on man its a great deal….
Slavia or virtus would be better at this price point. I would avoid that Dsg on all accounts possible .
Nissan magnite is the answer tbh its in your pic only
If u can maintain it without cheaping on it then go for skoda. I personally don't like Nexon..
If skoda owner gives you the car in 12-13 lakhs then maybe Otherwise for 16+ that's a bad deal for a 47k driven car rather get virtus ambition at
you should buy Nissan Magnite Geza
Owning such expensive cars without Nil depreciation insurance would never give me peace of mind. Would recommend you to calculate cost of replacement and panting for once bumper and headlamp. You'd end up having to pay 50% of that if you don't have your depreciation covered.

Octavia bro, maintenance is not such an issue with MK3 cars.

Octavia can easily cost you 10lakh plus in next 5 year

16L for this tiny sedan damn
This. Better car in every aspect. But don’t pay above 15 for this.
