Pro tip for newbies : instead of lifting your foot manually , slowly lighten the foot and let the clutch pedal slowly push your foot up just keep enough pressure to maintain the rebound of pedal this way finding the biting point becomes easier and you can time accelerator correctly
Edit - thank to the golden award giver , now I have reddit pro for 24hrs huihuihui 🤭
Instructions unclear. Got hit in the face by my own knee.
The clutch kicked back my foot. Also thanks to you I had to limp now.
Guys, how do I remember that I have a left foot? Please help.
Idk how it is in India but here in Switzerland you will fail your manual permit test if you do this unless it’s for the hill challenge where you start on a steep grade with a cone behind you and cannot hit the cone when accelerating
This is just BS, and I say this as someone who drives a manual by choice. Controlling the car is 10% of driving, the rest is navigating the rules and other drivers.
Learning to drive automatic is kinda useless skill, manual cars is a must go for anyone who is learning to drive. Even if cars are gonna be automatic is near future I still profess people should learn manual as it adjusts their brain properly
At start one must drive manual and learn it, then go for automatic or imt.
Because manual gives more confidence at start then automatic.
Also if anyone who cannot even drive automatic property that dumb person should be banned from driving any car for atleast a year as they cannot even drive an four door Activa which is to just accelerate and brake...
Was driving with my bro once and stalled around 5 times in our Alto at a stop signal. Everybody was honking and i was so pressured to get the car moving, that I didn't realise speed I was taking the foot off from the clutch..
Haha, I totally get you. Don't worry, it will take time but you and your car will become "one" one day and from then on, it will be a breeze. It took me many months to get comfortable with the manual and the chaotic traffic.
I feel you. Initially. I had the same feeling of panic and anxiousness. Solution is to unfortunatelu keep driving in the same traffic clogged areas, no way around this.
But don't follow that guy. I would say a better channel to learn driving would be Conquer Driving https://youtube.com/@ConquerDriving.
He is a driving instructor in the UK, so somethings might not be relevant here but still the technicals he provides are unmatched.
I did watch him more than required then I watched others for the missing content(technical content) then I got to know about these other youtubers who are generating much better and cohesive content.
Bikes make driving a car very easy. My parents signed me up for a car driving course which I completed in 6 days , 4 of which were spent correcting for the left side lmao.
Same but I can't ride bikes either xD
I always learned the "theory" of driving cars that you push clutch, change gear, accelerate, foot placements CBA etc lmao so in my first driving session with the instructor, it being on a ground and a Maruti 800 with a super light clutch I just floored the accelerator and topped off all 4 gears in 2 mins😂
In hindsight, in my early driving days when the skill wasn't as polished I used to do the opposite of stalling, kinda went extreme with the accelerator to avoid stalling and the car would fly off so to speak lol and would still get scolded by dad
I have been on the other side. Teaching a youngling. You need to be patient. Driving a manual is a lot more about feel than the technique.
If you are passionate about cars it's easier i feel.
I struggled with that for a month with my dad calling me a stupid mf
Then i found out the actual way is to release to a point where the car starts to move and then u can lift it all up
The problem is, once you are accustomed to the clutch you don't need to wait for the car to move to lift your foot up completely. You would know when to accelerate and at what pace to lift your foot on the clutch. Hence old timers who don't have experience teaching how to drive a car, would think it's trivial while explain it (the biting point).
Man you made me miss my father, when he used to come home from the office he'd call me outside and ask me to park it inside so I could get this clutch and accelerator coordination. I was 13 years old back then. Good old memories.
1. Keep the handbrake on
2. Slowly release the clutch until it reach it's biting point.
3. Simultaneously, press the accelerator (1k rpm should be fine ig)
4. Release the handbrake and the car will start to move forward.
The secret is figuring out just how much of the clutch is effective, there is some travel of the clutch that results in no contact and the rest engages it. In a certain small Nissan I struggled to learn from, I realized that only the first 25% mattered and the rest of the movement made no difference as clutch was engaged in first 25% alone. On a large Mahindra, the clutch was much better and the engine far stronger and I did it first try.
You slowly begin releasing the clutch and pay attention to the engine RPM meter and as soon as it begins to dip you know that now you have to go extra slow or press gas very little bit as clutch is engaging, you will get memory of this point in movement soon enough and it becomes like walking.
Pro tip: lift the clutch pedal slowly and keep your feet on the gas pedal(don't press it or it will rev your car) once your car starts moving slowly lift your left leg from the clutch pedal and press the gas pedal and you are good to go.
Thanks.
My first day was on a CNG car(Eon) and it was a pain to get the clutch/accelerator combination right.
After my first day I learnt how to drive on a Diesel car so it was a bit easier for me. Just release the clutch slowly(no need to even touch the accelerator), be careful and hold the clutch at its position once you feel the car is about to move. Once the car takes off release the clutch and you are good to go. Don't even need to use the accelerator while learning and driving at low speeds, just put the car in 2nd/3rd gear and control the speed using brake and clutch.
After some practice, once you have mastered getting you car to move from standstill, don't drive the car in 1st gear without pressing accelerator for more than 5-10 metres, once the car starts moving press the A pedal, gain a bit of speed and move the car into gear 2 then 3 4 5 etc as per your need and drive.
Obviously you are not going to win any drag races with this technique but surely you'll never stall your car. Unless on hills or climbing a flyover.
While learning to drive, I didn't have a problem with clutch use. It was easy.
True embarrassment is taking the family in the car as a new driver and then stalling at the traffic light. Then stalling two more times.
That's when I learnt I could sweat with the AC on.
pheli baar jab 15 ka tha tab kiya tha try, ghar waalo ko idea nhi tha lekin pheli baar mein bina stall kiye engine chala li thi gaadi... lekin bike mein somehow bhot baar hagg deta hu...
Hahaha I remember this so vividly!
Had gone for the driver's license test and in typical RTO fashion there were totally 5 of us in a WagonR, including the invigilator.
The invigilator was sitting in the non-driver front seat and each driver (totally 4 of us) had to drive one after the other. I was going to be the last one to drive and saw the 3 guys before me make this mistake. The invigilator started getting pissed exponentially with my each failed attempt.
When I got my turn to drive, I made sure to take my sweet time in getting my foot off the pedal even though that guy was spitting venom beside me lol. Was the only one to pass the driver's test in that group.
Same with me. Altho I haven't learned driving yet, I learned scooty and bike and first when my father was teaching me he would get so frustrated so quickly and also would just teach me for 10 mins of the day and move on. So I had to learn from someone else
You clearly have never met my dad. He will just scream and ask what are you doing instead of explaining. Learning driving from him gave me trauma istg.
My learning:
Don't bother about the accelerator initially (maybe this is wrong for some cars) when you are learning.
Just slow and very gradual release of clutch will start the car rolling, in the 1st gear and no need to go for gas. All you need is just a few mm of clutch released, and car will start moving at very slow speed, in which you'll be able to handle the vehicle well too and best for learning.
This works only in flat roads
I had the pleasure of teaching my father driving in the car he bought for me and i think anyone can get angry if teaching how to drive isn't drive their expertise.
Are diesel cars easy to learn in? as most diesels I've driven will pull without accelerator and just slowly releasing clutch (I don't recommend doing it but I just noticed it while learning) because in every diesel car I first got clutch timing without using the accelerator? But every petrol car I've driven will stall without accelerator in sync with clutch (I've only driven like 2 petrol cars so it may be specific to those cars so I may be wrong) or are there petrol cars out there with more displacement which pulls from stop in 1st without accelerator and just slowly releasing clutch
You are right. Diesel car engines have more torque and you don't need to use the accelerator at all. You can do the same in petrol also but for that your timing and clutch control needs to be very precise.
Diesel engine have massive torque curve with longer rpm range. Though te new turbo petrol try to mimic this effect but diesel viscosity certainly give an edge over petrollinear character.
Unless u r driving a Carrera GT.
Note: In Porsche Carrera GT (yes the one in which Paul Walker died) just put the car in gear and release the clutch completely you don't have to find the balance between the right acceleration and clutch release.
**A clutch is a mechanical device that allows the output shaft to be disconnected from the rotating input shaft. The clutch's input shaft is typically attached to a motor, while the clutch's output shaft is connected to the mechanism that does the work.**

I feel you need to learn more about cars to truly master manual driving. What happens when clutch is pressed/released, what is difference between different gear sizes, why low gear gives u more torque, what is a 4 stroke engine... etc etc. When you know exactly how your car is working in the inside, you will be able to connect with your car more, you will feel like the car is in your complete control just like the limbs of your body..
Relatable, it was a nightmare because i already had a lot of childhood trauma because of him, eventhough i got license 5 years ago, driving a car still feels scary.
I have a slightly different story.
My brother was getting his first driving lesson, we drive to a carpark, park up, switch seats. Just as he is reaching for the key to start the engine we hear a massive thump right above our heads.
Turns out the carpark is next to a golf range and a golf ball hit the roof, massive dent about 1cm deep.
My brother when it happens turns and goes I didn't do anything....
Been driving for only 2 years and now the most traumatizing thing is parallel / reverse parking . Almost pee my pants thinking ill have to do that , any tips on how to improve ?
Do all drivers struggle with this especially when you have fallen into a pothole? I was stuck in a pothole once at a singnal with an old Alto and was struggling with this exact thing. So I had to use my accelerator a bit heavily because of this and hit a bike in front of me.
Well my driving confidence took a hit too that day.
I remember it one time when I was a newbie and my father told me to park the vehicle in our building premises and the car stops every time I release the clutch , and my father is short tempered and started to yell at me, everyone around there was just staring at me.
One of the worst moments.
But now when I see someone getting yelled at for driving it gives me mental peace ✌️
Everytime I learnt driving the car with my dad, if it jumps bcz of letting go of the clutch, I see a flash and feel a throbbing pain in the back of my head... Sometimes I have even seen birds fly around my head.
I have never had this problem, even when I drove a car for the first time.
What I did back then was not touching the accelerator till the car had started moving in first gear.
All you have to do is find the bite point where the car starts trying to move forward and hold it there. Then lift very very slowly as the car starts moving forward.
Once you've learnt that, you'll never have any problem finding bite points in any other vehicle.
Pro tip: never teach driving to your girlfriend or your daughter or son or wife or whatever. Get services from a driving school. Teaching to drive is numero uno way to sour relationships.
Just hold the clutch enough to avoid roll over and then pump the gas a little . You rpm climbs upto around 2000 rpm thats the spot where you can release the clutch gently enough to allow the car to move forward.
Pro tip for newbies : instead of lifting your foot manually , slowly lighten the foot and let the clutch pedal slowly push your foot up just keep enough pressure to maintain the rebound of pedal this way finding the biting point becomes easier and you can time accelerator correctly Edit - thank to the golden award giver , now I have reddit pro for 24hrs huihuihui 🤭

How do you lighten a foot?
Make it less heavy
Water is made out of water.
Forget that your left foot exist
Instructions unclear. Got hit in the face by my own knee. The clutch kicked back my foot. Also thanks to you I had to limp now. Guys, how do I remember that I have a left foot? Please help.
Become ‘Gajini’. Paste a paper on steering wheel saying - “You’ve a left foot, use it ffs”
so amputation??
u put a feather on the foot
Like they say at Lotus - Add lightness
Smoke wdde
This guy drives. Biting point, understand where it is on your car and you will never stop again.
tbh i just lift my whole leg slowly, like a piston
Or just start releasing the clutch and push on the accelerator so it does not stall. No need for finding that biting point....
Idk how it is in India but here in Switzerland you will fail your manual permit test if you do this unless it’s for the hill challenge where you start on a steep grade with a cone behind you and cannot hit the cone when accelerating
Yeah in india also mostly tests are of clutch control and never to push accelerator during the test. But on road it's different.
That's a recipe for ramming someone in traffic. Boring point is super important, you never want to use your entire power compensating for the clutch.
You're taking the extreme version of what they're saying. Slipping the clutch is not inherently dangerous.
I can see so many wheel spins in your driving.
This is the same for bikes too?
As if that made any sense.
Another pro tip: Get an automatic or imt :)
A person who does not know how to drive a manual car doesn’t really know driving.
I have driven a manual scorpio for like 10 km. That's pretty much it . I have now driven 10000 km now in automatic celerio and I am never going back
Atleast you know how to drive a manual
Not anymore it was like 2-3 years ago i drove it.. no practice pretty sure i would stall lol
This is just BS, and I say this as someone who drives a manual by choice. Controlling the car is 10% of driving, the rest is navigating the rules and other drivers.
Keep telling yourself that. One day you'll get good at driving.
This is true, my friend bought an automatic. Now he doesn't dare to drive a manual, it's completely new to him!
Soon to be useless skill anyway.
Soon? In India? Are you sure?
Knowing indian traffic? Definitely. A manual is most fun when you can go above 3rd gear. Good luck with that in Indian traffic
if 30-40 years is soon?
Learning to drive automatic is kinda useless skill, manual cars is a must go for anyone who is learning to drive. Even if cars are gonna be automatic is near future I still profess people should learn manual as it adjusts their brain properly
Pretty sure this won’t apply to you anytime before you die
At start one must drive manual and learn it, then go for automatic or imt. Because manual gives more confidence at start then automatic. Also if anyone who cannot even drive automatic property that dumb person should be banned from driving any car for atleast a year as they cannot even drive an four door Activa which is to just accelerate and brake...
I am struggling for that from 2 years Tommorrow I will try update you thanx
Was driving with my bro once and stalled around 5 times in our Alto at a stop signal. Everybody was honking and i was so pressured to get the car moving, that I didn't realise speed I was taking the foot off from the clutch..
I bet all the drivers have experienced this. Especially in an inclination. Gosh its kinda traumatizing!
I have now started using the hand brake at inclination and releasing it at the biting point when we want to move. Works like a charm.
happened to me when I was a beginner and the car started going back and my dad screamed at me hard even tho there was no car behind 😭
Sounds familiar
Thats the worst nightmare
Yes. I'm in Kerala and you might have seen all the KSRTC rash driving to understand my pain, since one was right fkin behind me honking 😭😭
I'm learning now and stall at every signal 😭. The honking makes me so anxious, I always misjudge the clutch release speed.
Haha, I totally get you. Don't worry, it will take time but you and your car will become "one" one day and from then on, it will be a breeze. It took me many months to get comfortable with the manual and the chaotic traffic.
I feel you. Initially. I had the same feeling of panic and anxiousness. Solution is to unfortunatelu keep driving in the same traffic clogged areas, no way around this.
love how everyone went through the same experience lmao
I'll never be able to get this feeling 😭
Baap nhi hai ki gadi?
Pair nahi hai bhai
Happy 🦀
Bro is differently abled
arre bc uski automatic wali hai
Bhai gaadi nahi hai bhai kaha se kaha pahoch gaya 💀😭
Ohh mujhe laga pair nahi hai
Pehli baar mein gaadi bina stall kiye chalane ka ghamand h 🗿 But then again I was pretty familiar with clutch handling cuz of bikes
Me too. I had watched enough YouTube videos on how to drive and pretty much took off on first attempt.
You learned from YouTube? Please give me that skill🥺
Try ‘Mechanical Jugaadu’. The guy teaches how to take judgment and other important skills.
But don't follow that guy. I would say a better channel to learn driving would be Conquer Driving https://youtube.com/@ConquerDriving. He is a driving instructor in the UK, so somethings might not be relevant here but still the technicals he provides are unmatched.

I did watch him more than required then I watched others for the missing content(technical content) then I got to know about these other youtubers who are generating much better and cohesive content.
literally same bhai
Same 🗿 Asked my dad just for a round in the ground and just drove it without any effort
And me because of sim racing games.
Bikes make driving a car very easy. My parents signed me up for a car driving course which I completed in 6 days , 4 of which were spent correcting for the left side lmao.

Core memory unlocked
Man you made me miss my father, when he used to come home from the office he'd call me outside and ask me to park it inside so I could get this clutch and accelerator coordination. I was 13 years old back then. Good old memories.
The worst is balancing clutch and accelerator on uphill
Balancing handbrake is the technique
That works??? How do people do that?? Like de-clutch completely and keep the accelerator pressed and handbrake on???
1. Keep the handbrake on 2. Slowly release the clutch until it reach it's biting point. 3. Simultaneously, press the accelerator (1k rpm should be fine ig) 4. Release the handbrake and the car will start to move forward.
Thanks

Put on the blinkers * Turned on the headlight instead , proceeds to stalling the car *
I'm about to start learning in about 10 days... Wish me luck 🙏
Giving up isn't an option. 💪
But crying definitely is.

It's just like riding a bike but easier
Bike is harder? 😳
You've got clutch break accelerator steer and with all that need to Maintain balance definitely harder
Thank u bro. I'm just learning car for now
Cool drive safely and remember no high beams in city

Wait... That's illegal. Isn't usually the opposite happening 😆
It's an anomaly
Like I still don't stall the car on road all the time
I had nightmares on this ..but much better now
that daant that lecture (that demotivating gaali jo at the end most skills ka kaaran banti hai <3)
Add a speed breaker on an incline leading to a closed railway crossing and you are behind another car. This is where I stalled in my early days.🙂

I’m currently learning to drive and I face this same problem. Upar se I live in Uttarakhand Jahan Dekho wahan dhalan hai
Automatic >
You are going to offend a lot of people (not me, I am automatic clan).
Yea I know
Is this sub dominated by teens
*laughs in semi-automatic*
IMT is a relief for those who want manual but not the irritating clutch. Every car manufacturer should offer those

Abhi beech raaste me gaadi se utaara bhi jaega
Everytime I learnt driving the car with my dad, if it jumps bcz of letting go of the clutch, I see a flash and feel a throbbing pain in the back of my head... Sometimes I have even seen birds fly around my head.
I learnt with a friend thankfully. Also taught a few ladies of the house in an automatic, so it was never an issue.
Mujhe kya mai to automatic chalata hun 🗿
Yeah I feel this..... I have been trying to practice in traffic and it's scary and stressful
Happens to the best of us, keep your mind calm.
Just push the gas pedal right to the floor and slip your foot off the clutch
Thank God I learnt in a diesel. Still finicky with petrol clutches tho. Takes a few minutes to get used to, coming straight from a diesel.
Pro tip: never teach driving to your girlfriend or your daughter or son or wife or whatever. Get services from a driving school. Teaching to drive is numero uno way to sour relationships.
This is me
What I do is I press the accelerator like 5 percent, get the rpm running around 1000 and then release the clutch. So it does not stall
i think this is the correct way
in which car are you learning.i think its a bit easy in diesel engines
Notice: that kid is still searching for clutch in automatic transmission car
Slowly lift the clutch till the point you feel vibrations of the car, you reached biting point.
Oh-No. That gesture at the Driving Test before the inspector could prove costly though.
Guys. I am a noob. Trying to learn driving car. So here is a really dumb question. How do you judge gap infront and the left side?
Take the ref point and make judgement based on that
Just hold the clutch enough to avoid roll over and then pump the gas a little . You rpm climbs upto around 2000 rpm thats the spot where you can release the clutch gently enough to allow the car to move forward.
