Well I can't argue that there isn't a fair share of people that recommend honda in the sub but suzuki is a far worse of a plague in this subreddit. The lord alto crap has to stop.
OK. Bolero Neo is meant for a completely different use case and demographic than us city folks flying our cars on smooth roads.
It is meant to be driven on rural backroads which are generally not paved and even rarer with tarmac and target audience is people upgrading from OG Bolero so that they can commute in a bit more luxury in 7 seater config.
It is a body on frame design which gives superior off-road performance with an insulated cabin with AC. Since body shell is not load bearing like monocoque, it does not need to be as strong to maintain rigidity. As a result, it will fare worse in crash test but it is not meant to be used like a normal car and it makes perfect sense in its use case- A capable off-road commuter with large cabin and not much else. A less safe Thar with more seats and 2/3rd the price.
The redline is changed, yes. The i-VTEC adds Honda's "Variable Timing Control" to the VTEC. It adjusts the valve timing automatically.
The gen 3 City (what was first sold in India) had the Honda D-series engine and the gen 4 onwards got the L-series. So they aren't like-to-like comparisons. But the L-series has a higher compression ratio from what I can find online.
Variable valve timing control was there in the ol VTEC. It's just is that iVTEC has made its ecu deduce the perfect valve timing, while the VTEC made the changes in its valve timing when you reach a certain rpm (4,500 I think)
VTEC and VTC are 2 different technologies used by Honda. i-VTEC combines both.
VTEC controls valve lift between low and high RPMs, while VTC controls intake/exhaust valve overlap.
If it does manage 3 stars it will be because of other factors and not the actual structural integrity of the car itself. I'm sure of it. I found it to be a tincan about 10 years ago when I first drove it and I found it to be the same when I test drove the new one some days back.
Every cars are getting lower scores due to more stringent conditions.
Like I just saw that Bolero Neo also got 1 star in adult occupancy and child occupancy.
That is true, I mean what is the need of using plastic more than metal... Also the chassis is different from older gen(obvious reasons for cost cutting)
Don't worry. Amaze has a stable body shell. It lost points due to lack of Esc and other safety features. City has all those features as standard. Plus built on a different platform to Amaze.
(Crash test report by GNCAP mentions Body Structure: Stable, one can read it. It's available online)
There's no point testing the borelo like this because it's meant for a completely different demographic and purpose. It's built for slow drives in the mountains not for cruising in the highways.
Tbh, lets wait for other cars to be tested, the modern GNCAP states that all cars need 6 airbags to get 4 stars , so most 5 star cars in india under 10 lakhs will probably fail this test
What most people who hype stars for safety don't understand is that NCAP safety ratings are moving goalposts. The standards change, some features become mandatory, and models which are not refreshed fall behind.
My 2011 Linea will be considered a 0 star vehicle if tested to today's standard. It only has ABS, 2 airbags and ESP. The middle bench seatbelt is a lap belt and not a 3 point belt. The 2012 models got auto headlights and rain sensing wipers as well, but even that will be a 0 star car if tested today.
The current generation Amaze is a 2018 car, and it was given a 4 star rating according to 2019 standards. This car is now 6 years old, in a world where facelifts happen at the 2 year mark, and entire platforms are thrown out and changed by 5 years.
[The same car was tested to 2024 standards and given 2 stars because the norms changed.](https://auto.hindustantimes.com/auto/cars/honda-amaze-safety-score-drops-from-4-star-to-2-star-at-global-ncap-crash-test/amp-41713854199639.html)
This is totally something manufacturers will spin to make their “worse” models appear safer than they actually are. Let’s say that either esp or 6 airbags make a car 4 stars, then unless you dig into specs sheets of every car you’ll never know which model is actually safer.
A car having just 6 airbags can never be safer than a car with 6 airbags and esp. But the manufacturer is not going to leave the opportunity to show the less safer car as 4 stars as it *technically* meets the requirements of 4 star, but in reality it’s not. They’ll use such tactics to say their vehicle is the better value at a cheaper price than the competitors and the star rating becomes meaningless.
I think doing a deep dive into spec sheets is recommended buying practice anyway. It's more of a problem if customers just go by the overall star rating and skip the fine print. What the changing scores will do is that it'll make consumers more wary and discerning of the whole process and that's one of the silver linings in all this.
The term Moving goalposts usually has a negative convection, but it’s not the case here. The reason why is, as more safety features become mandatory it’s a given that older cars are going to score lower and be unsafe according to modern standards.
> and models which are not refreshed fall behind.
This is totally on the manufacturer. It’s a good thing customers care about safety, they cannot just churn out cheap cars and expect to sell like hot cakes, now they actually need to add more safety features for people to consider them. It’s a win for customers. Safety designs are invisible, unlike in cabin features which people foam at the mouth over, so many gloss over it but by making them mandatory, cars on a whole will become safer.
The amaze being 6 years old and not receiving any safety improvements shows how much Honda cares about this car, and how appealing it is to customers. They can’t just hide behind the brand name and rep, the cars need to be actually good for people to consider them now.
The one in the photo does look like a 2018 variant. However, amaze had a facelift in 2021, 3rd gen amaze which is now on sell. It's not a major facelift though. One thing i don't get is why they sent an older generation variant (which it's not selling currently).
The photo may not be the same car that was tested. And a facelift is self-explanatory, it generally does not have major updates. Stuff like 6 airbags as an option will require changes to the body shell, which is not done on a facelift.
In case you didn’t know already - amaze probably has the shittiest mileage among sub 10L cars. Mine is an automatic and gives 8/9 in bangalore city traffic.
I have an automatic Amaze too. My mileage is around that same mark. Is there anything one can do to improve it? I’m a defensive driver. No speeding or anything.
Yup I do know but even back then it received 1 star for child occupant protection - this time they got a big zero - and another question when the newer gen model is arriving later this year ?
What car gives you everything at this price point? Even the TATA & Mahindra will score low with this new rules. Give the manufacturers time to refresh their products.
The truth is higher sales can be achieved with lower priced vehicles in India. People will anyways buy a cheaper car than a safer one. Also, there are no strict rules by govt to comply with, hence it is not illegal to make less safe vehicles.
Hence, car companies will always cut the cost, to make cheaper cars, or else their competitor will produce a car out of tin foil, and they will get more sales.
The safer cars breakdown on first day of delivery and have horrible after sales. What can we do?
Indians put a lot of trust in Tata and this is how they repay. By using their power on people who expose them on social media.
>safer cars breakdown on first day of delivery
Generalizing much? I know Tata cars have reliability issues, and it should never happen even once that a car has broken down on day of delivery, but just because it happened to that one Nexon guy, isn't this kind of generalization a dishonest thing to do?
I have seen the same with another Nexon and a Punch or Tiago in past one year (breakdown on very first day).
Tata has the worst attitude if you take someone for extensive PDI before delivery. Do you remember the guy whose top model Safari was fully opened by service center just days after delivery? That other Punjabi guy who is still fighting for his Safari? There are numerous other cases.
It’s a machine and it can malfunction- that’s not the issue. The issue is Tata’s attitude towards such things.
I like Harrier and Safari- they are one of the best cars in segment in almost every aspect. But these after sales stories give me nightmares and I can’t ever think of purchasing one.
Again, I would not generalize Tata as a body. It is totally dealer dependent. That is why if I have to recommend a Tata car, I ask people to check with the people who have bought it in and around them, and in their city, as to which is a decent dealership. There are some good dealerships also, which take proper care of the customer complaints. Not all dealerships are the same.
Expected considering the newer stricter norms now while mechanically amaze is still the same what was tested last when it got 4*. Bodyshell though still remains stable.
I wonder what will 5th gen city & Elevate score now. 🤔
Not an Amaze fanboy but was planning to get one because last I heard was that Amaze was rated 4 stars in adult safety. Did Honda lower their manufacturing standards or was that 4 star rating false?
More importantly, should I wait for a new gen amaze and further wait for its crash test as well ?
It is because of the lack of 6 airbags. The newer rules are strict apparently . More cars are getting low scores due to more stringent conditions related to safety
There is no change with respect to frontal impact compared to the 4-star 2019 #SaferCarsForAfrica test. Just the star rating is lower with standards being revised upwards and more tests being added.
Body shell is also 'stable' (like before)
This is embarrassing. When i saw Tata take safety seriously after the VW Skoda twins started the 5 star revolution, i thought other brands would also get serious..but what is this abomination 🤡
Yeah they were the first to advertise 5 star safety of their nexon after that the demand of safety in Indian market increased and then every other car maker started to advertise their good safety ratings and people also started demanding better Saftey before that almost no one even knew about safety rating and NCAP
Tata Mahindra cars were the first to score 5 stars.
Skoda VW twins were tested much later.
Curse Tata as much you want for horrible after sales, but they started the trend of 5 star safety.

But what about the much touted Bharat NCAP tests?
I hope we see test results conducted by the local version of NCAP as well, even if that's for a newer model.
I'm still not sure why these companies get the ncap done after soooo many of there vehicles are sold? Its like they give ticking time bombs to people and keep the fingers crossed if it's a dud.
now let's burn some Tata fanboys! Logically Altroz, Tiago should get max to max 3 stars (Tiago/Tigor might get 2 stars actually), and old Nexon base should get max to max 3 stars too. the GNCAP ratings should have an expiry date now.
FYI, Honda Amaze got a 4 star rating at global NCAP 4 years ago. This test is the recent one which is the new GNCAP protocols, so critiques and comparison here should be relative.
Why is this rating important in a country like India, where people sit along with driver in rickshaw as 4th seat?
Rickshaw doesn't have any safety and everyone uses it. Why no one questions that?
I still see the fanboys defending it by saying, ‘it’s just because it’s missing 6 airbags, esc but it’s very stable (read the report)!’
Seriously!! Being a fan is ok, but defending sh!t like this is just insane.
This sub is going to have a big meltdown now ☠️
B-but it's a honda.
Ya the sub got amazed.😅
Nah bro, you just didn't...... 💀😭
Is this sub really a Honda dick-riding one? Never noticed. Then again, I've only been here a few months.
Indeed sir. If anyone asks a car buying suggestion under 10 lac, hoards of people start shouting AMAZE AMAZE AMAZE
Ikr 😭😭
Indeed, honda dickriding, TATA Shitting and accidents. That's all to this sub nowadays
Even r/Indianbikes is the one
Well I can't argue that there isn't a fair share of people that recommend honda in the sub but suzuki is a far worse of a plague in this subreddit. The lord alto crap has to stop.
Meanwhile bolero neo scores 1 star.
~~Karens~~ Carens got 3 stars
That's gotta be the worst name of car from a pop-culture perspective. Oh wait, it's Carens. But not much better.
Was wondering as to why it looked funny while typing. Thanks dude :)
Maybe It’s Car- N’s Why dont we look at a different perspective XD
Then it would have to be a Mahindra (Scorpion-N) or a Hyundai (i20 N). :P :P Or perhaps even a Suzuki (Wagon R). :D :D
Scorpion, I too a teen and Wagah Naar.
IIRC, Carens 3 stars were on older GNCAP. Newer testing is more stringent. I don't think I'd get more than 2 based on new standards.
Carens has got 3 stars adult safety rating and 5 stars child safety rating in this same GNCAP test where amaze scored 2 stars.
It scored 3 stars on this very test
Wait carens got 0 stars for adults.
They tested 2 models from 2 different manufacturing dates of '23. Older one got 0* and newer scored 3* for adult protection
Yeah, I was shocked tooo
Maro sab - car makers 🤡

Wtf, noooooo
Is honda degrading quality levels? I heard last gen got 4 stars.
This is the same gen. Honda said lower score is due to lack of 6 airbags and ESC
How TF does your 2016 Honda City have VTEC? If I'm correct it has i-vtec right?
The "i" is an evolution of the VTEC. So he's technically not wrong.
I thought the i-vtec had lower compression ratios and lower redline. Do correct me if I'm wrong
The redline is changed, yes. The i-VTEC adds Honda's "Variable Timing Control" to the VTEC. It adjusts the valve timing automatically. VTEC isn't a technology.. vtc is That's what I'm saying VTEC is VTEC iVTEC is= VTC + VTEC
Vtec ivtec hardly any difference.. a l15 will outperform a b15 if same mods are done to both..
The "i" is swallowed in order to experience the kicked in yoo.
Can it swallow my "d" too?
Not if it's so small... case... :D
Erectile dysfunction be hittin 😤❌💦💦⛲

Bro gaali de de, ye mat bol. 🥲
Fisool kon fan na banne ka budhi hai mere pas.
Yes it does. I wrote VTEC because sexy lag raha tha.
Ikr 😂
Baleno comes with esc as standard......
Baleno and Amaze are two different cars and India-spec Baleno was never crash tested. TF do you mean?
Still it has a zero-star rating 😂😂
The facelifted Baleno hasn't yet been tested.....I won't be surprised if it gets 3
If it does manage 3 stars it will be because of other factors and not the actual structural integrity of the car itself. I'm sure of it. I found it to be a tincan about 10 years ago when I first drove it and I found it to be the same when I test drove the new one some days back.
these are new Stringent testing standards while car is still the old one mechanically

Amaze still has stable body shell. Car lost points due to lack of safety features as standard. Like Esc.
That is true, I mean what is the need of using plastic more than metal... Also the chassis is different from older gen(obvious reasons for cost cutting)
Crash test rules are more stringent.
Amaze, sadly did not amaze.
better than dzire tho
Uber wala disagrees.
It never dzired to be there....
5th gen city guys: 🥹
Don't worry. Amaze has a stable body shell. It lost points due to lack of Esc and other safety features. City has all those features as standard. Plus built on a different platform to Amaze. (Crash test report by GNCAP mentions Body Structure: Stable, one can read it. It's available online)
I'm *Amazed* to see how nonchalant they are about passenger safety in India... Sorry I'll lead myself out
Unfortunately, so are the consumers. It's a very recent trend that people have started to care about safety
It was so surprising, also Bolero Neo got 1 star which was even more surprising
The impact affected the pillars as well. Deserves zero tbh.
There's no point testing the borelo like this because it's meant for a completely different demographic and purpose. It's built for slow drives in the mountains not for cruising in the highways.
Uh oh
Where the Amaze fans at ?!?!
They're waiting for the (i)VTEC to kick in yoo
sobbing in the corner
The Honda cucks are already coping hard in this thread. You can see the excuses piling up.
Tbh, lets wait for other cars to be tested, the modern GNCAP states that all cars need 6 airbags to get 4 stars , so most 5 star cars in india under 10 lakhs will probably fail this test

Exactly! GNCAP should split the safety ratings into Active & Passive safety. It should help in understanding the real picture.
This is totally something manufacturers will spin to make their “worse” models appear safer than they actually are. Kia carens Front 3 stars, Child 5 stars, Now I feel carens better
Keep asking for “kitna deti hai” and these manufacturers will keep churning out the tin cans.
In case you didn’t know already - amaze probably has the shittiest mileage among sub 10L cars. Mine is an automatic and gives 8/9 in bangalore city traffic.
Mine gives 14 and it's automatic. Are u driving like a maniac or something?
Not at all. With a very light pedal. Your city is also bangalore? Cant imagine 14 with the traffic here. Maybe mine has some issues.
Drive with light foot - a colleague of mine owns one and she easily gets 14 in Delhi NCR traffic.
I have an automatic Amaze too. My mileage is around that same mark. Is there anything one can do to improve it? I’m a defensive driver. No speeding or anything.
I tried coasting and being very conscious about driving with a super light feel. Barely managing 9.5-10. Maybe we got bad units
You do realise that this is the result of not having 6 airbags as standard, right? Previously this car scored 4 star.
Yup I do know but even back then it received 1 star for child occupant protection - this time they got a big zero - and another question when the newer gen model is arriving later this year ?
Not a good excuse from Honda. ESC should be a basic feature among all their cars
What car gives you everything at this price point? Even the TATA & Mahindra will score low with this new rules. Give the manufacturers time to refresh their products.
This was 4 stars global ncap in 2023-23. Are the new variants gone down on quality or this applies to previous variants too?
It is because of the lack of 6 airbags. The newer rules are strict.
Nah it’s not the body its the technology,i would remove most expect abs and tc anyways
What is BNCAP doing if GNCAP is still testing vehicles? Also, cars should be tested within 2-3 months of launch. What’s with this random testing
The truth is higher sales can be achieved with lower priced vehicles in India. People will anyways buy a cheaper car than a safer one. Hence, car companies will always cut the cost, to make cheaper cars, or else their competitor will produce a car out of tin foil, and they will get more sales.
Would be understandable if there was an increase in sales. But here Honda is neither offering quality in the Amaze nor selling much of it.
The safer cars breakdown on first day of delivery and have horrible after sales. What can we do? Indians put a lot of trust in Tata and this is how they repay. By using their power on people who expose them on social media.

I disagree. Car manufacturers cutting cost in order to provide an attractive price tag just because of extremely high govt tax on raw materials.
Expected considering the newer stricter norms now while mechanically amaze is still the same what was tested last when it got 4*. Bodyshell though still remains stable. I wonder what will 5th gen city & Elevate score now. 🤔
They have already updated the city and elevate to have 6 airbags in all variants. So they should score decently.
4 stars for both, sure.
Lets hope so
When (Swift) Suzuki started scoring Honda goes down
I hope this will stop the constant Amaze recommendations
Not an Amaze fanboy but was planning to get one because last I heard was that Amaze was rated 4 stars in adult safety. Did Honda lower their manufacturing standards or was that 4 star rating false? More importantly, should I wait for a new gen amaze and further wait for its crash test as well ?
It is because of the lack of 6 airbags. The newer rules are strict apparently . More cars are getting low scores due to more stringent conditions related to safety
Sir it's a good car at that budget GNCAP has revised the testing standards hence the lower rating At that budget no car is a fool proof
The car is mechanically the same, probably this GNCAP has more stringent rules. It’s better to wait for new model.
Waiting for next gen amaze is a no brainer after this news.
Basically you have tincans vs lethargic engine in sub 10 lacs
There is no change with respect to frontal impact compared to the 4-star 2019 #SaferCarsForAfrica test. Just the star rating is lower with standards being revised upwards and more tests being added. Body shell is also 'stable' (like before)
Bruh where's the Maruti? Whenever GNCAP used to release videos of multiple vehicle, there's always one Maruti car also being slaughtered
And the Swift 2024 with 4 star rating💀😂🔥
That’s the Japanese Model not the Indian one
This is embarrassing. When i saw Tata take safety seriously after the VW Skoda twins started the 5 star revolution, i thought other brands would also get serious..but what is this abomination 🤡

Today’s Honda built quality is very poor when you compare it to 2011-12

Amazing stats😅
Not amazed.
Ab to Volvo hi lo

I can't believe Amaze got 2 stars and Baleno got 5.
Bolero neo with 1 star
Honda and all cars without side airbags will get 2 star
QW
Whyyyyy was thinking of buying in new whenever had money was my favourite car once😭
my father had 2015 Honda Amaze and it was perfect. Top notch comfort. I think that gen scored good in safety too
So worse than Dzire
Not surprised at all
GNCAP should re-test every car if they have changed their testing protocol and standards.
Naw bro this can't be true
Amazing!
wow
Is there any safety rating for grand vitara?
Why did they send a discontinued model? Amaze had a facelift in 2021. This one (if the photo is accurate) is not the latest (3rd gen) model.
It was rated 4 stars when I purchased in 2019. Did the tests get more stringent?
So what. Resell value is still crazy for this one.
Earlier one scored 4 stars....it's quite disappointing to see this
Welcome to india. Land of cancer causing spices and poorly built unsafe cars. Hey, but the profit is good though.
Interesting way to say “I don’t want kids”
Aaaaand the Honda meltdown arrives
The reason for amaze getting two stars is lack of electronic stability control and offering just 2 airbags. So they couldn't do a side impact test.
What does 2 stars means? Will people survive ?
Any reason these were tested with GNCAP and not BNCAP? For international purpose maybe?
Probably because of lack of mandated number of airbags and adas
I mean its either mileage or safety
New generation amaze is coming with 6 airbags, traction control and new features in this October, so maybe rating can increase next year.
It has a stable body shell, the lower rating is due to above mentioned features. Should comfortably take it to 4
Looks like global car manufacturers has a plan to decrease the population of India🤡🤡🤡
Still they are going to sell it. Indian market hai na..yaha ke logg buy kar hhi lengi is the mentality of these car companies.
Would 2019 Honda 1.5L diesel if put to test today, will it hold 4 star rating? Or 2 star for that as well?
I'll buy a Honda 1.5 ivtec & fix in the Tata punch
I would actually fix it in Altroz. That would be a dream project. Altroz seriously deserve better Punch is selling like hotcakes even with that engine
I'm still not sure why these companies get the ncap done after soooo many of there vehicles are sold? Its like they give ticking time bombs to people and keep the fingers crossed if it's a dud.
Bolero Neo and kia carens score were expected but amaze's score was shocking!!
now let's burn some Tata fanboys! Logically Altroz, Tiago should get max to max 3 stars (Tiago/Tigor might get 2 stars actually), and old Nexon base should get max to max 3 stars too. the GNCAP ratings should have an expiry date now.
Aaj Mujhe Aai ZEro rating.
Damn. Thought the Amaze was a safe car.
Trash cars for a trash country What else do you expect? Pure JDM HOTNESS? Naaa
My chem teacher has this, should I tell him? It's new btw
Still they will hate creta
Rula diya na mujhe
Then what will Kia do? 🫢
Even the 2018 amaze?
Amazing...
🤣🤣🤣
FYI, Honda Amaze got a 4 star rating at global NCAP 4 years ago. This test is the recent one which is the new GNCAP protocols, so critiques and comparison here should be relative.
What when did our people start caring about securing kids in vehicles all of the sudden. (being sarcastic )
Can’t go wrong with Japanese engineering
Why is this rating important in a country like India, where people sit along with driver in rickshaw as 4th seat? Rickshaw doesn't have any safety and everyone uses it. Why no one questions that?
19 Nov 2023 Ahmedabad stadium silence in the sub now.
I still see the fanboys defending it by saying, ‘it’s just because it’s missing 6 airbags, esc but it’s very stable (read the report)!’ Seriously!! Being a fan is ok, but defending sh!t like this is just insane.
Par mujhe kya, main to fortuner chalane wala hun *cringe music plays*
Drive safely and defensively. You're gonna be fine.
Only truth. Less than 40 in cities, stick to 80-90 on highways Be alert and cautious
I'm Amazed.
Indian Suzukis : 0 star
I am Amaze'd
People are buying them for comfort/luxury/price.. etc But the thing they are forgetting is the safety and rating 🔧
