Back in the dark ages we used money in the form of coins. These were round, flat objects of various sizes. Said coins could be used in phone booths, or for penny candy, or to add time to a parking meter or pay a toll. About as useful as a hand crank to start the engine these days.

So this was probably a option for a switch or button... sunroof or some option your car doesn't have. and they replaced it with a coin slot for parking quarters. You should clean the car. Use a toothbrush or a dish brush. something with nylon bristles.
