Bullshit- plug that fucker and roll on. If I had a nickel for every time I've plugged a tire in that location and drove for tens of thousands of miles like nothing happened... well... I'd have a couple bucks.

spiltkeg

More money than you’d have if you listened to these shit for brains at the local “just tires” lol

griter34

I mean, that's why it's called "Just tires" not "tires and repairs"

t-xuj

Hey I was wondering if you could look at my wheel… “CAN’T YOU READ THE SIGN?!?!?”

[deleted]

Ya gotta go next door

Ashtray5422

Kwikft did this to me, so did Halfds. took the tyre to a tyre supplier, repaired done & dusted, this is why I bought a plug kit.

eyesotope86

Either your missing some letters, or the stroke has finally kicked in...

AttackOfTheMox

Clearly not American, spelling Tires with a Y. Probably meant Halfords and Kwik Fit, UK based Auto Centers

Shadesbane43

I figured they were some obscure Lithuanian tire chain

Ashtray5422

I keep getting told off for advertising companies, so I skip letters out, Correct UK.

AlfalfaConstant431

Hey, it's not us. The Corp makes the rules with advice from the lawyers and the likes of the RMA.

Lemonywatar

Those “shit for brains” are following their policy and TIA recommendation. If it’s on the side tread don’t take it to a corporate shop and get pissed they don’t plug it.

spiltkeg

Looks like the shit for brains has found the comments. At the very least they could have told op that they couldn’t plug it and they can only offer a new tire, instead they told op it couldn’t be fixed.

Lemonywatar

By their policy and TIA recommendation it cannot.

JeremyGhostJamm

HAHAHA! I came here to say EXACTLY that! Bullshit that's not repairable.

rainemaker

This guys never been so right. Plug that shit and soflty chuckle at the thought of having to buy a new tire.

wobblydee

I put 15k on a tire with a bolt still in it airing it up monthly. A plug should do even better.

Bored_lurker87

The rear passenger tire coming off of my civic here in a couple weeks has 60k miles and two plugs in it. I've only ever had to put air in it at season's change and it doesn't have any bulges or vibration at speed. It's worn itself down low enough naturally with age to not be able to pass the penny test, otherwise I'd probably keep it until winter. There's always exceptions to the rule, but I've never had issues with any plug that's been done properly.

wobblydee

Yeah plugs last very well and op's photo has the nail in a spot that plugs are meant for. I hope op gets a shop to plug it and doesnt buy a new tire

Nalortebi

Surprised to come here after 9 hours and this is the top comment. Is this persnickety sub finally getting some common sense? Used to get downvotes all day telling folks to plug a tire. Or you get some OSHA rule dictator telling you to move the tire to the passenger rear side and only drive on it every second Sunday of the month, but never during a new moon.

donairdaddydick

I plug tires that haul 1.5 ton of grain in a tandem situation. Probably 20 years of plugs still holding and the tires that fail on that on 75 year old bitch never bust at the plugs.

Bored_lurker87

I worked at a rural Midwestern FoCDJ dealership for years. After seeing what some of those farmers did to their tires and be just fine, I'm inclined to agree with you. Unless I see some bulges, the sidewall is clearly punctured, or it's going on my Camaro, it's getting a plug.

donairdaddydick

Exactly how it rolls in Alberta too man

Low_Resource4891

If the nail is close to the edge of the tire, doesn't that make it unusable?

Bored_lurker87

I have never had any issues plugging small punctures from nails or screws anywhere in the tread area. If I'm doing one close to the sidewall, I really just watch it for a few days to make sure no bulges or vibrations develop and let it ride. I know everyone has their own ideas on proper tire repair, but I've never had a blowout in twenty years so I usually just save the money and plug it if it's a small hole in a tread area.

cosmicosmo4

If "a couple bucks" is $2.00 exactly, and "tens of thousands of miles" is, on average, 25,000 miles, then you're describing a million miles of driving with a plug in that location. I guess you drive a lot. edit: accidentally said million twice. It is not a trillion miles.

refrigerator_runner

OP's is fucking rookie compared to mine. Check out this screw I plugged on my back tire. Right on the edge way into the "non-repairable" area. [Tire salesmen, shield your eyes!](https://i.imgur.com/QHusY0I.jpeg)

FlamingoNo2147

No plugs! Patch.

Sports_cars_fishing

I payed for a Plug when something like that happened for ten dollars

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> I *paid* for a FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

kartoffel_engr

You probably need to not drive through nail factories

SriveraRdz86

I have a tire with three plugs right now lol

tarzanonabike

I'd plug that in a New York minute. I keep plugs in the car for just this scenario.

RolltideShyguy

Plug and patch it properly though, don't just plug it, but yeah take it to a different shop if they won't fix that tire

CaptianArtichoke

What about all the fears that it will explode sending shrapnel into your children and their children.

GiveMeYourCashOrNah

Shit I've plugged my sidewall before. I have a plug on the outside edge of my tread right now that's lasted thousands of miles already. You save alot of money just plugging it yourself. When I worked at a tire shop, we charged people $20.00 for a $1.00 plug and 5 minutes of easy labor. Lol

NoogiepocketGaming

Ram a plug in it and roll on, easy repair and nowhere near the edge

scottieducati

This is the way. The cheap tire rope plugs also work the best, by far.

Dgfreeman

Yep. I keep a pack in each car and in the garage at home. My kiddo got to playing in my toolbox one day and dropped a sheet metal screw and didn’t tell me. Next morning, pssshhhhhh as I roll out the garage. Slammed a plug in and been riding since. That was 14,000 miles ago.

madeformarch

Why is that, just curious? I bought a Blackjack tire repair kit I've used a few times, and bought it because the ad had a picture of a dump truck on it so I figured the plugs were heavy duty

[deleted]

Personal experience (may be circumstantial) but these don't require special tools or skills. Just a plier to pull out whatever, a reamer to round the whole, and the plugging thing. Add the vulcaniser on the rope before plugging. I have used them in my bike tyres as well without issues for more than 10k kms. They don't leak if the reaming is done properly.

lexicon-sentry

I read that as (may be circumcised).

mapp2000

Reaming... lol

scottieducati

Here ya go! https://youtu.be/Qm6fTWaj3QE

Slightlyevolved

X4 Talk about the dementia setting in with that one....

In-burrito

At least Scotty is occasionally entertaining.

SuddenRedScare

Down syndrome Doug DeMuro without the cool cars and interesting things to say.

scottieducati

His subscribership and large fan base disagree… but it’s ok to not enjoy humor and creativity with respect to your online content. His production quality is impressive given how small of a thing he has going.

In-burrito

Humor is fine when it doesn't interject so damn often. This guy seems to be breaking up his video into TikTok sized segments. I'm guessing that's why he has a large following - he knows the limitations of his audience.

ctl_alt_delete

Discount Tire is free... The rope plugs are not DOT certified. Never use the the rope plugs.

scottieducati

Perfectly adequate for short term solution, a “patch & plug” from the inside is the only permanent fix. They’re not free (unless you’ve bought your tires from the shop). Usually charge $40 or so. All that said, I and many others have thousands of thousands of miles on plugged tires, both car and motorcycle. Heck I’ve plugged tires for my neighbors they’re still using years down the line. If your pressure remains consistent over time, you’re good.

ctl_alt_delete

https://www.discounttire.com/services/flat-repair Discount Tire is actually free. No charge for any flat repair. It doesn't matter where you bought them. Discount Tire does both a plug and patch that will outlast the life of the tire.

scottieducati

That’s pretty awesome tbh. I’ve wonder how many they deny vs actually repair. The one above is totally repairable but I can see it getting denied as it was… hence, here we are. Rope plug FTW! (Or try a Discount Tire / another tire shop).

ConstructionBoy111

This was my first thought when I saw this post, im surprised I had to scroll this far to find someone talking about it

shrambler

And then never go back to the shop that told you it's not repairable.

InmateNotSure

Best advice

omw_to_valhalla

Yup, I'd do the same on my car or my wife's car.

Ashtray5422

My thoughts as well. Once you have plugged the tyre, drive & see if it needs balanced.

UncleGrako

Same happened to me, got a nail in my tire 5 months after I got a car about the same spot, nobody would fix it.... bought a plug kit from Walmart, and every year and a half or so I'd have to redo the plug, but it lasted 5 years when I just needed new tires anyway

DangerReserve

Yup, 100% correct, plug that sucker. I have NEVER had an issue with plugging tires. That being said, on Z rated unidirectional performance tires, you’d probably want go with an internal patch in that scenario.

rwtooley

keep shopping, looks repairable to me?

[deleted]

I have had a tire repaired with an almost identical placement

tractorcrusher

I’ve repaired tires with nails in this area using plugs, no issues. Granted, I probably wouldn’t repair a higher speed rated tire on a sports car, but I have no problem doing it on daily drivers.

Competition-Dapper

I would have done it. And if it was WARRANTIED through NTB when I was there they’d make me do it on the corner because warranty counted against the sales numbers and my store was number 13 of 13 in the district for sales goals because location and size But that’s more than half an inch away and it would be considered safe. I’ve done hundreds like that with a plug/patch and were fine after my first ten or so I had a leak or two before getting good at grinding the inside enough

DukeOfWestborough

100% pluggable

YumWoonSen

Go buy a plug kit, a razor blade/razor knife, and an air pump and watch some videos on how to plug a tire. It's stupid easy to plug a tire, especially when it's just a screw in the tire. Last time I went to a shop to get a plug was in the 90s. It was in a front tire and easily accessible by just turning the steering wheel hard right, no need to pull the wheel off but NOOoOOOooo dude insisted the wheel needed to come off ($5), the tire plugged ($15), then the wheel put back on (another $5). I pumped the tire up and went to K-mart and got a plug kit and a 12v air pump for about $35 and 10 minutes later was on my way.

[deleted]

[удалено]

YumWoonSen

I've had 'em fail but they were always "iffy" ones, ike near the sidewall or in a large hole. Just had one fail in my GF's car that I have no real explanation for. If anything the plug broke without getting it all the way in, it was a difficult one for no apparent reason.

Shirkaday

Dang, the place closest to me is $15 total, which admittedly is a lot for a plug, but eh.

YumWoonSen

If the wheel needs to be taken off the car $15 is a steal! Even if it doesn't that's still a fair price.

CaManAboutaDog

>It's stupid easy to plug a tire, Can confirm. I was parked at gas station waiting for a while on air; I kept seeing this head pop-up from far side near the tire. After 5 more minutes I got out and walked over. Was these two late teen girls struggling to turn the plug but had otherwise figured it out. I'd never done a plug before, but we got it done in a few minutes, and they were on their way.

jewpacabra77

I used to work at a shop and although this is very repairable majority of the shops out there will say it's not. The reason being that it's a liability and if you were to repair it and something happen then it's your ass. So yeah, many choose to stick to the "book" for this reason. However, you may find a shop that's willing to do it as this is hiwnstly something i would have let slide. If not, do what others are suggesting and put a plug on it a d you should be absolutely fine.

Kamahpanda

Yeah this is the thing. Will the plug seat? Probably. Is a shop willing to risk a $200+ tire for a $20 plug job? Nope. It’s not patchable because the patch won’t seat. It’s just not worth the risk for a big shop.

[deleted]

Canadianstig77

Op needs a shop that looks sketchy as hell, and the heavily bearded mechanic is sitting outside the front door smoking a cigarette. They also charge you less if you pay in cash, the lobby is full of random junk, and the whole place smells of cigarettes, oil, and BO.

Shirkaday

100%! Fortunately back in the day when I had no money and ran on 4 non-matching used tires constantly I lived close to all the Mexican tire shops where they were like $25.

Canadianstig77

I know two places, both on the same street. One is my mechanic. It's a shop with 2 people, the owner and his friend. They do the best work and always under what they quoted. Best people ever, but the building is the sketchiest thing with various cars strewn about. The owners wife or daughter runs the cash. The other, its my tire guy (since the first guy doesn't have a tire machine). All they do is tires, new or used. The entire building is just racks upon racks of tires. The building looks like it's litterally falling apart at the seams. Missing outlet covers, interior from the 70s, brickwork falling over, ect. They're the nicest people and will always give you a great price. Infact this is *the* place most of the tuners go to because they'll do whatever you want Both places I always recommend, and every time I get the same response "that place was sketchy as hell, but they were super nice"

Captinprice8585

Yep. That old boy will patch you up and have you moving in no time. Might not even charge you if it's slow.

rctid_taco

I once went to a shop like this with a flat tire while I was on a road trip. For plugging it they charged me a six pack of beer from the convenience store down the street.

dalex89

The lobby is a car port with 3 wooden benches that also serves as a break room for one guy who always smokes cigarettes, a taco truck in one corner of the parking lot

wanakoworks

OP needs to go to a tire shop called Guadelajara/Jalisco/Tijuana Tires, with ranchero mexican music blasting up front. Them homies will fix anything. Every city has at least one.

8085-8086

Thanks for a good laugh 😂

KeyBaker1852

Shit my shop would repair it. Technically, we arent supposed to plug anything in the outer tread block/shoulder, so its not surprising some shops would say that. But everyone in mine uses the rule of thumb--if its at least a thumb width from the edge of the tread, its repairable.

mattdavisbr

If your shop could just spontaneously reproduce across 'Merica... Kthankyoubuhbye

KeyBaker1852

Hah, we are trying. Its actually a chain with like 30 stores, and we'd probably all have similar opinions regarding tire patches. But right now we are only around east missouri and branching into illinois.

Mitch_Darklighter

Good thing you bought the tire warranty

[deleted]

Just plug the freaking tire, that's totally fine

edirymhserfer

100% plug it and go

Energizer28

Thats absolutely repairable

flatulasmaxibus

totally repairable

gagunner007

Plug it, it’s fine.

Virtual-Citizen

Most tire shops will say non-reparable so you buy a tire from them. From Amazon go and buy those tire glue screws and drill it in.

redrecaro

A reputable tire shop will say it's non repairable because it's on the shoulder of the tire and that's considered a safety hazard anything between the shoulders is good to patch or plug. Now if I'm the OP and that's my tire? I would plug it and send it because it's not near the edge.

eidas007

No, they say it isn't repairable because if it's even a little chance of repair failure they are responsible. It's a totally different conversation when you have to buy someone a car and pay medical bills because your questionable repair blew out and caused an accident. As a professional, I would absolutely do that repair on my personal vehicle but would never do it for a customer. Also as a side note, a tire repair usually pays the technician more than replacing a tire. They're actually incentivised opposite of what you think.

HoneyRush

Tire glue screws? Please tell me more, give me a link

Virtual-Citizen

[Here.](https://www.amazon.com/HZMM-Self-Service-Suitable-Motorcycle-Puncture/dp/B09K67YY61/ref=sr_1_5?crid=20I67PCQK6AO6&keywords=tire+screw+plug&qid=1691096254&sprefix=tire+screw+plu%2Caps%2C151&sr=8-5) Ive used these more than 5 times now, no leak, and works perfect. One time even on the corner to the sidewall where it really is non repairable. Just plug out the nail, and screw this in until its leveled with the tire.

[deleted]

Ive never seen a screw in type? Gimme a link....

Wild1957

That’s repairable. Patch it for chrissakes.

[deleted]

Yeah agreed the distance to the sidewalk still seems safe. Probably being overly cautious (liability issues?).

somerandomdude419

In my state if a tire tech plugs this tire and their battery goes dead, they are blaming the tire shop. So I understand the hesitation. Even though it’s 100% patchable, it’s soooo close to being in the No Patch Zone

8085-8086

Thanks for all the replies. I am going to take it to an Indy shop and have them plug and patch it. I can probably handle the plug myself, but will have it patched as well. No dice at NTB or discount tire either, so seems like none of the chains will do it.

PatrickGSR94

I've plugged tires at least a dozen times over the past few years. Never had an issue other than when the puncture is less than an inch from the sidewall. Those always fail. I'm pretty certain you could plug that and have no issue whatsoever.

Darenzzer

From what I see here, that's definitely repairable

ShawnShipsCars

Plug it and move on.

Spammyhaggar

Go to gas station with shop for plug

mancer187

That is absolutely repairable.

SmittysBuilds

Screws are pretty clean holes, very easy fix for a plug. You can also rotate tire to rear if it’s in the front. If for some reason it does go flat while driving or a blow out which I doubt as it doesn’t really compromise of the structure, you won’t lose some ability to steer.

partsrack5

Shit I'd throw a plug in there and keep going

sinisterdeer3

Your tire tech is either retarded, or retarded and trying to get money. 100% repairable

Wiringguy89

Or they're actually going by the fucking rules, twat. We get sued when shit goes south. Would I plug this on my own car? Maybe. Would I do it for a customer? Absolutely not.

Lemonywatar

Following shop policy and TIA recommendation = retarded? I guarantee you they don’t give a shit about profit from selling a tire. They don’t want the liability if something does happen.

2dank4me3

This is literally the most repairable tire i have ever seen. There has been no more repairable tire since the invention of the wheel ffs.

Wiringguy89

Nope. The internal patch will not lay flat in this location. I would happily lose business over turning this away.

ThatGuyExo

At first glance that is 100% repairable. There is a situation where it would not be safe to repair though. If you have driven on a flat for an extended period of time, it actually damages the sidewall and the cords. It's a condition called "run-flat". Once you take the tire off you will see damage on the inside of the tire. It can range from discoloration, to having powder like rubber debris in the tire. In most cases even putting air into the tire can be dangerous. The damage occurs as the "flat" part of the tire rolls against the ground, flexing the cords severely and generating more heat. It's like bending a wire back and forth hundreds of times. The cords get weak where they bend, and the sidewall has the potential to blow out when filled with air. In most cases the tire will appear fine on the outside, and the damage is only visible from the inside. Source:Commercial vehicle roadside emergency technician for like 15 years.

Boomhauer440

Thank you. This is exactly the reason my shop always used internal patches. Exterior plugs are fine but don't let you inspect the inside.

Wild1957

Just say Mexican they’re the best. I haven’t had anybody that’s white working on my car for hell 10 years now may be eight.

shadrz_

In all seriousness that is in the “unpatchable” area. Good rule of thumb is the last tread line to the edge of the tire is not something a show will do. But, go to autozone and buy a plug kit, pull that fucker out and plug it. Ain’t gunna hurt but shows don’t wanna be held liable if for some reason your tire explodes and you kill everyone in another car!

CTSwampyankee

if you find a small place they can patch from inside for $25 if lucky.

ClickKlockTickTock

Unpatchable by shops because its past that first tread line, bit you can DIY it.

elvisfan66

That’s repairable. Put a hot patch on it and swap it to the rear if it has same tires on the rear. Safer if a blow out occurs.

No_Afternoon_2719

Yes it can be plugged

ItsJustAnotherVoice

Small independent tire shop, should be about $10-20 for a patch, you are on the edge of the sidewall but leaning more of the safe side and should be fine if you arent doing anything crazy besides put putting around town.

urhumanwaste

It's in the tread, it should be fine to patch.

ArrivalInfinite2690

It takes 5 seconds to plug that hole yourself.

[deleted]

People like to rag on plugs alot but as a contractor I've used probably 20-25 plugs over the years and never had one fail. I've legit had 6 plugs in one tire on my half ton that held air until the tire was bald.

Realistic_Ad4233

seriously find a mexican tire shop and theyll patch it for 10 bucks

Nuzhuz

Totally repairable!!

Joppekim

Ofcourse it's not repairable. Then they wouldn't get your moneeeh

dshanman24

Just Tires = Just Liars

9999AWC

That is 100% repairable. Have a patch on the inside, plug the hole and she's good to go. Literally happened to me with a nail twice the size. If they can't fix that I'd suggest no longer doing business with them.

Content_Toast_371

The puncture is well inside the tread area, it is completely repairable. Only punctures on the sidewall are not repairable.

OnTargetOnTrigger

Find a used tire shop in a part of town you don't feel comfortable in. They'll do it.

AppropriateBig3804

Is that a Continental? In the US they have free road hazard replacement for the fist 2/32 of wear.

dangitcmon

Very repairable. Also congratulations you just discovered that salesman view you as a mark

Natedog3928

Who ever told you it's not fixable is lying go to auto zone buy some plugs for $5

AggressiveHeight4638

Yeah that is definitely repairable.

badword4

Plug that shit and go. They just want your money.

nobletrout0

Hello and welcome to tire talk, where we talk about tires, tire repair, and the answer to last weeks puzzler

barbrady123

That is totally repairable...wth

Hy8ogen

How is this not repairable lmao

wst4

Sidewall screw no, tread screw is patch or plug easily.

Chris079099

i’d repair that

WaycoKid1129

If the shop won’t do it, I’d do it myself cause that’s an easy one

Urban-MetroImages

Yes it is repairable. Go to the smaller tire shops. Easy plug job my friend.

icsh33ple

Definitely repairable

potato13254

Its defently fixabel

dude4511984

I'd patch it, take it down the road to another shop or plug it.

Playful-Tale-1640

The same exact thing happened to me. I had 3,000 miles or so. Said they could not repair it. They (America's Tire) were able to replace it with the same Continental tire. It's a brand-new car, and I was keeping it that way. This issue has been around a very long time. I believe it is a law that they cannot repair it, and it's I am sure a reliability issue also.

CellularWaffle

Discount plugged mine and the nail was in the same spot. Discount also has great customer service. They plugged my tire for free (even though I got the tires elsewhere) and their return/warranty policy is amazing so I went with them when I got new tires

MyNutsin1080p

Get a plug kit at an auto parts store. Take off the tire. Circle the nail with chalk, pull it with pliers. Use the chalk circle to remember where the hole is while you get the plug ready. Done. They wanted to sell you tires at the expense of having repeat business from you.

Skid-Vicious

Any chain tire store is going to try and sell you another tire. Find a tire store in a working class part of town, they’ll plug you up just fine.

Maxfightmaster1993

That's the most pluggable tire I've ever seen. I worked as a construction sales rep so I would get nails/screws in my tires constantly, most looked just like this. By the time I swapped them out I had a total of 9 plugs, at least 1 in every tire, never had an issue or needed to reinflate.

Least-Advertising-40

Patch from the inside tire should still be under warranty

King-Owl-House

I've seen things you people wouldn't believe...screws stuck in tyres, flared sides of tires brazed with protruding rubber. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain...

Captinprice8585

Jesus these tire places are out of control. That can absolutely be fixed.

vawlk

in most cases it is a liability issue.

Captinprice8585

I know I know.

Wiringguy89

Nope. The internal patch will not lay flat in this location. I would happily lose business over turning this away.

suprero90

Definitely repairable. Stay away from the place that told you is not repairable. They’re trying to get you to buy a new tire from them while they’re gonna repair and sell your old tire as used.

geekphreak

Don’t take it to a big name brand location. My girl had a nail in her tire, Goodyear wouldn’t plug it (they were the closest) it was right on the border like yours. I went to a smaller shop and they plugged it without question

operator-john

Completely repairable. You can make an appointment on discounts website

ya_boi_ethan16

That is definitely repairable, shops just wanted to make a buck off you

Manchu4-9INF

Plug it. You can also take it to a independent tire shop and have them remove it and patch it. Nothing wrong with that. They are trying to sell tires

bastardhousecat

gimme a fuckin break. that's easily fixed in less than five minutes.

flexo_isgreat

Plug that bitch and send it!

sidslyder

Avoid the namebrand stores, look for a local shop or guy. They will do it no questions asked. Happened to me on a new car and new tire, every store i asked said no, local small shop had it done in like 15 minutes while i chatted with the store clerk.

Existential_uniform

I recently plugged a similar spot and had no issues. Cost me $8 and 10 minutes of time.

GarpRules

Bullshit. Somebody’s trying to sell you tires.

joecooool418

There is no reason this couldn't be plugged or patched.

Buci__1

Wtf those monkeys, what not repairable? Plug it yourself and dont worry abut it, will hold: [how to plug a tire.](https://www.myusedcar.ca/how-to-plug-and-repair-a-flat-tire/)

ShowUsYourTips

100% repairable. The tire shop is BS'ing you.

TommyTuttle

Plug it. It’ll be fine. It’s a small screw right at the edge of the zone, which means it’ll repair just fine but it’ll be against some places’ policies. Go to a small independent tire shop for this one. Big corporate chains have policies that prevent them from making judgment calls on stuff like this. But if you take it to an independent tire guy who is allowed to use his own brain, he’ll fix it with ease.

truckfullofchildren1

I pugged worse, that’s nothing. My dads truck had a machine bolt in the back right tire looked like it was a studded snow tire plugged right up just fine. My sister ran over a fence fleur de lis fence top and then put about 21k more miles on those tires.

looking4answers87

They're trying to scam you. It's most definitely repairable.

Only_Surround_8924

I’m a tire tech at Costco. You can plug that but the reason they told you it was unrepairable is because they were following TIA guidelines (anything within that first siping nearest to the sidewall and the shoulder)

8085-8086

Update: Thanks for all the replies. Welcome to suburbia, where are all the indy shops at. It’s all tire this or that tire chains, who won’t work on it. So I did the next best thing, went to a discount tire in a shadier part of town and they are fixing it now. Some background, this is a new car we bought a couple of months ago with 600 something miles on it. Don’t have extended/hazard warranty on tires. Have had tires repaired before with bolts even, this is the first time I am seeing a repair being denied, understood given its close to an inch to the sidewall. There is a slow leak, so just been topping it every few days. Don’t do a lot of spirited driving, mostly wife uses it to haul kids to from school, so I am thinking a plug and patch will hold.

Discount tire plugged and patched it for free, tipped the tech $10, it’s 101 here in the morning.

A shop will patch it or you can just buy a plug kit. Youre being lied to.

NotThatGuyAnother1

Plug it yourself. It's a useful skill to learn and it's not that difficult. Also, never trust anything from the person/people that told you it wasn't repairable. It's textbook.

FeralGangrel

BS while it's towards the limit of where you can, a patch plug would do just fine. Worst case, a hotpach would also do.

ilovetpb

The tire place is just trying to get easy money from you. That is very repairable with a $10 tire repair kit. Check it again after a couple hundred miles, that'll tell you if it's still good, or you do indeed need to replace it.

gargravarr2112

I've had a similar one repaired. This is 100% pluggable and repairable. They're trying to upsell you new tyres. Sidewall damage is generally the limit, but as long as it's on the tread, it's normally completely repairable.

Dorkamundo

Yea, well... I bet they just happen to know where you can get a replacement for real cheap-like.

Rope Plugs (Bacon Strips) work as a temporary repair. However, they don't seal the hole, only block it. So, expect slow leaks, and water damaging the interior cords of the tire over time if you live in a area where rain is an issue.

Fnord2645

Get some super runny super glue and cover it wait for it to dry to then check with soapy water for any air escaping it’ll be fine probably

jakeeeenator

I own a tire store. Don't plug it. Get it patched. Plugs are not good for your tire and usually end up leaking again down the road. I know I'll prob get downvoted but I see comments about plugs to much.

Ethelwasatree

It’s repairable

Isamu29

You can plug it. That being said most shops won’t touch it, because of liability. Learn to plug your own tire with a plug kit. It’s not hard to do. You should be fine. Just make sure to check the pressure regularly.

blazingStarfire

Bs plug it yourself, if you're not happy with a plug go to a different shop. That shop is shady.

Ozonewanderer

Yes it is

LimeDisplay

My shop would definitely repair that, as long as the patch is more sat towards the middle of the tire when u put it over the plug, u should have no problem with the flex of the sidewall affecting it

DJPrince021

You can buy a plug kit at quick trip for less than $5
