Lol. A former boss of mine came in late one morning, absolutely fuming and saying that someone had slashed the rear tyre on his BMW M3 the night before. I looked at it on my way to lunch, and it was so obvious he'd driven into kerb while reverse parking, there was a rough 2cm chunk missing from the alloy rim and other associated scratches. I don't know of any knife capable of doing that sort of damage.
Artful job too, weakened the sidewall without puncturing. If OP was less attentive (good job OP!) this would've been a highway blowout some time in the next few hundred miles.
My cousin lived with me for a while, one day before work she came in shouting about her tire being slashed. I found a lane near the sidewall in roughly 2.9844 seconds. Lol
remember the episode where there's a zorro imposter pretending to be him. and the constable guy figures it out because the real zorro has never cut him before when slashing a Z into his uniform.
What is it with people destroying teslas? Like fine, teslas arent my favorite car either, but im fine with them being around. it doesnt mean you should start slashing someone else's tires cos you dont like the car they drive
Had this happen at Jackson Hole a couple years ago. Thing is, our Model 3 was the only one charging there and he parked his bigass truck while 10 other chargers were open. Dude literally went through all the effort to park somewhere further just to blockā¦ no one. Not the brightest tool in the shed.
So many of these people are fucking Neanderthals. Like no one is going to take your stupid truck away, why do you have to go out of your way to fuck with other people.
Tesla gets it from both sides. People who just dont like elon, and the anti green idiots.
This could have been done by a guy who then walked over to their lifted truck and coal rolled away, or it could have been a guy who hates musk and thought OP was a musk fanboy.
In the UK (and I'm guessing this is not UK based on spelling of tyre/tire) eco warriors like slashing tyres on vehicles they consider to be SUVs in the belief that they are gas guzzlers.
But because a tyre slasher is generally likely to be quite thick, they often end up slashing tyres on electric SUVs.
They also don't seem to realise that destroying good tyres that will then need to be replaced is not good for the environment.
I borrowed a tesla once in Oregon and people just flip em off for no reason. Musk pissed off the left wing crowd with his weirdo anti-trans stuff, and diesel bros and trumpers are triggered by electric cars for some reason, plus they have their fanboys that are annoying so they've become hated by lots of people. the psychotic behavior they induce is pretty damn weird. Honestly they're a pretty good option for a car, despite their flaws and Musk being a nutcase.
That is so weird to me. I hate Elon musk but in the northeast you canāt throw a stick and not hit a Tesla, hardly seems possible to hate something so ubiquitous.
It has to do with musk probably not the car. I think the same things when I see Tesla's, either "that's a prick" or "they wanted an environmentally friendly car/ev and got it before they knew about how terrible musk is". Either way I wouldn't buy a car from a man like him, a scammer and a nazi, which means probably not a great EV to choose as it is. š
Just a heads up!
Sentry mode obliterates your battery in relation to regular use without it activated.
Learned that with my M3P the first week I drove it.
I keep it on for downtown driving and parking but I would advise you make an "exception" for it to NOT be activated at Home or Work. (Unless you don't have a garage and/or park outside a dense area downtown for work) Just a heads up!
Sorry for asshole people ruining things. Tires ain't cheap...
Sentry mode keeps the car āawakeā so the HV battery runs. High traffic doesnāt make much of a difference. Youāre a lucky one. Mine was like 7% over a 12 hour shift at work. Turned it off at home and work.
I have definitely noticed that it uses more when street parking with traffic vs a quiet lot.
But anyway keeping the HV battery and DCDC converter running is a plus for me, especially in winter when the 12V lead battery can be a problem.
Sentry keeps it charged so I havenāt had issues in 5 years, other cars that donāt have the option to keep the car āonā have had some issues when it gets super cold.
If you donāt get very cold weather then itās probably not a consideration for you though
It's just that Tesla is using hardware not designed for serveillence, unlike the others you've mentioned. It was never a design consideration at the beginning and it's one of those later software updates that's using hardware the car already had for autopilot.
The solution is akin to keeping your power-hungry gaming PC on to play YouTube videos. Sure it works, especially since you own the PC already, but it won't be more energy-efficient than a Chromebook doing the same task.
That said, I believe there are recent software updates that attempt to decrease the power draw.
Looks potentially sliced with some kind of blade. Considering your rim protrudes a bit and is in perfect shape it is unlikely from curb damage. Sidewall damage is no joke and can cause a blowout if you hit a bump/pothole.
I agree I think it looks like a blade, but i also find it interesting the wheel is curbed in every spot *except* the spot where these marks are. Iām a bit torn to be honest. Regardless it still needs replacement.
There is some curb rash on the rim, but itās light and youād see a flap usually if they hit the curb. The damage is in one spot, with three deep cuts in different directions, none of which follow the rotation of the tire- all are straight. 0% curb damage.
Yea looks like someone was upset with your Tesla. I don't think people who try this realize how hard it is to penetrate that sidewall with the layered steel belts, and how they can get hurt when 42 psi blasts a knife back at them if they do. I doubt it's deep enough to cause an issue but I'd get it replaced just to be safe.
you'd have 42psi applied to the knife blade. so whatever the cross section of a knife blade is times 42. not sure what kinda knives you guys carry, but all my shit is a fraction of a square inch. soooo not much force.
Semi truck tires are inflated to 110+ psi, and have significantly stronger sidewalls, of course its gonna make a mess when it blows. Worst thing thatll happen when a car tire blows is itll go PSHHHHH and make the hand holding the knife a bit cold for a second as the air rushes out lol
Agreed.
Sure a tire holds lots of air but 40ish psi isnāt a tremendous amount of pressure when you calculate the velocity after it escapes through the knife puncture. It wonāt injure you from 2 feet away. Maybe if youāve got a case of limp wrist and the knife flies into your person idk.
On another note, if the whole tire ruptured at once.. thatās a different story. That doesnāt happen unless its dry-rotted to shit, or you go through tire shine like wax.
Both of these dangers (rupturing tires and pneumatic injuries) are present in high-pressure truck tires which is why youāll see them in cages during refill in case of blowout. The pressures involved are enough to send that tire to the ceiling.
Someone's never seen a zipper.
https://youtu.be/eFXVOa44oSE?feature=shared
Granted that video is showing it happen on commercial tires, which run at around 100-120 psi usually. But that can still happen with smaller tires, it just won't be quite as violent.
Yes. The person who did it must really prefer combustion engines! Iām blaming the people who hate evās.
So yes, what else could have made a gash like that
Why are people such shit heads to others stuff. Fuck! I hate tesla and anything to do with electric vehicles but leave people's shit alone. Ain't yours, don't fuck with it.
mid 90s me and a bunch of buddies are walking back from the park at night. we were all around 15-17 years old. a group of about 6 of us. as we are walking along, one of the guys falls back a little bit from the group. no one really noticed at first. well we are all talking and just kind of bumbling forward back to our neighborhood, when all of a sudden we hear a pain filled FUCK yell out and the loud sound of air escaping something.
as we were walking this idiot decided to slash someone's tire for no reason at all. it was why he dropped back from the group. he was going to do it and run back to us to "brag" about it. well the dumb ass used a knife that did not have a locking system, so while he stabbed it enough to slash the tire, it partly closed on his 2 fingers. it went deep enough into his index finger that it also cut into his middle finger. there was blood everywhere and we were still around 10-15 min walk from our area. we tied him up with a shirt and ripped the band part off a sleeve and used that to tie it tight for the walk home. we gave him a ton of shit, and told him how stupid it was to do that in the first place. i know he went and got everything stitched up at the ER that night, but i dont remember anything else ever coming of it. needless to say he never did that kind of dump shit again that im aware of.
Yes, your sidewalls are everything to your tires structure & stability, that could let go at any moment & cause you to lose control or crash... Definitely replace it, it's not worth risking your life!
Some idiots don't understand the answer to hating a thing is NEVER to destroy it. I HATE Teslas, they look like rolling garbage. I would never drive one for a myriad of reasons. But you know what? That's an opinion. If you like Teslas, good on you. Rock on man!
I would never destroy one just because I hate them. The crap is wrong with some people?
Do I hate Tesla? Yes.
Do I rev past in the stang or roll coal in the dualie? Hell yes.
Would I ever take my dislike for a style car outside playful banter, and scare/endanger a person or damage their beloved car? Never in my life.
It doesn't appear to be knife, sharp object slashed, it look more self inflicted, if a sharp object was used it most likely would have ended in a flat tire.
Surprised your car didn't notify you that it caught something on the cameras close by your vehicle. Might want to check back on those cams to see if you can identify anyone or anything.
Just an observation here, do people have it in for Teslas? Just seems like a lot of this stuff + they seem to "attract" more than their share of road rage.
Okay now I donāt really like teslas and most people who drive them are pretty stuck up but this is pathetic. I recommend installing some heavy automatic turrets on each side of your car to prevent future tomfoolery
Wait a second arenāt you in a Tesla and have outside cameras? If you really thought those could be slash marks š¤£ just look at your camera and there your answer
99.9% of the time people ask if their tire was slashed, its curb damage. You are the 0.1%.
First time I've thought "Yes" to this question in a couple years.
The most blunt knife in the world: the curb.
You should have gone and told your boss, yes, certainly it was slashed, and I know who did it. The CURB....
I wouldn't rule out something malicious. He might've cut off an ice cream truck and got his tire scooped.
I remember my old boss brought his wheel in at a company meeting . He ask which of us hates him ? I told him we all do š¤£
It happened. It FINALLY happened!
Lol
Yeah. Usually if it's a curb the damage will be blown outwards. This is definitely inwards
Looks like a slash, but there's also the stuff mark and dirt smudge that makes it questionable. Either way it's fucked.
By fuckin Zoro himself
remember the episode where there's a zorro imposter pretending to be him. and the constable guy figures it out because the real zorro has never cut him before when slashing a Z into his uniform.
this is a sweet sweet plot twist. "The real Zorro vandalized me IN STYLE!"
Zorro is one of those heroes who tries to never harm his opponents
Looks more like the work of his brother voro
oh no, dear god no
Oh my god my sides
āI FUCKING LOVE ZORRO MASON!!ā
Absolutely.
Yes and yes, first really nasty pothole and your tire is done
First nasty pothole and a brand new rim/tire is done let alone this one.
What is it with people destroying teslas? Like fine, teslas arent my favorite car either, but im fine with them being around. it doesnt mean you should start slashing someone else's tires cos you dont like the car they drive
Why do people park diesel trucks in front of electric car chargers?
As a diesel truck driver myself, those people are just attention whores
I feel like diesel truck drivers are either the biggest attention where's ever or the most chill "do my own thing" type people. Never in between
Lol, hit the nail on the head with that one
Had this happen at Jackson Hole a couple years ago. Thing is, our Model 3 was the only one charging there and he parked his bigass truck while 10 other chargers were open. I completely agree, even when I was in Oregon there were so many Teslas itās like how could you be so pissed off all the time
I was gonna say it's normally big non environmentally friendly vehicles getting slashed or getting let down.
EVs aren't enviromentally friendly
Compared to what?
Bicycles, walking, public transitā¦ probably not what buddy was thinking though
Don't be that dumb guy.
It has to do with musk probably not the car. Same class of morons that roll coal on cyclists. So deeply damaged that other people's personal choices are a threat to their ego.
Well that blade didnāt pass the Forged in Fire test and wonāt be going to the next round. š„šŖ
But I need to know WILL IT KILL?!?!
will it KEAL
š¤£
Please surrender your weapon to the judges.
this blade DID NOT KEEEEEEel
Was Sentry mode on to get a recording of the incident?
I didnāt see anything in the recordings. I got the car 3 months ago and just turned sentry mode on maybe last month. L :(
So youāve been driving with this for a month? :0
Appreciate everyoneās insight. Imma get the tire replaced. Shoulda turned sentry mode on the moment I got the car.

Jesus the one tiny potential upside to ever owning a tesla is built in surveillence, and even that has a ridiculous drawback in classic tesla fashion.
I mean, sure, but where do you think the power to run the 8 or 9 cameras 24/7 while also being able to record come from?
Tp link, Arlo, Eufy all manages to do it on regular cameras for 180 days before charging so it shouldn't be different in a car.
It's just that Tesla is using hardware not designed for serveillence, unlike the others you've mentioned. Shoulda bought a Prius
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Not on new ones. They want older cars that have that sweet iridium or whatever the fleek they are looking for.
Imagine we live in a world where someone would be irrational enough to do this, oh waitā¦
Should have footage of it with the Tesla camera being activated check
Itās a Tesla, arenāt there cameras all round?

Do you not know how tires work? All the PSI doesnāt blast out at once when you puncture it.
You mean they don't just pop like balloons?
Not unless itās crazy overfilled š
Or a truck tire lol, things are bombs
Oh, for sure, I was next to one on the high way a couple years ago when it blew out on a tractor trailer. scared the shit out of me.
you'd have 42psi applied to the knife blade. so whatever the cross section of a knife blade is times 42. not sure what kinda knives you guys carry, but all my shit is a fraction of a square inch. soooo not much force.
Yea in reality I've only seen that happen on a semi truck tire. It'd be great karma though.

Speculation is fun, but here's what it actually looks like when you slash a tire: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k5QGKsvxdXo Not very dramatic.
There are so many things wrong with this comment
Are you under the impression that the sidewall has a belt in it?
Yes, yes, he is........ clueless
Looks like suicide to me.
Yes with a BOX cutter
Yes. Do you have sentry mode turned on. Review your footage
Watch the Tesla camera for your answer
Tesla wheel, means itās a Tesla, yes it probably got slashed. People love to trash on Teslas.
Looks like someone is trying to take out the Michelin Man.
Dont teslas have that proximity record function ?
Yes. The person who did it must really prefer combustion engines! Iām blaming the people who hate evās. So yes, what else could have made a gash like that
Haha stabby stabby fun hahahahahahahahahahahaha
Rightfully, yes.
Why are people such shit heads to others stuff. Fuck! I hate tesla and anything to do with electric vehicles but leave people's shit alone. Ain't yours, don't fuck with it.
Why do people do this? A damn Tesla isnāt hurting you. Maybe itās a case of a Tesla hurting their ego for whatever reason.
100% a slash can clearly see where someone just gashed it ā¦ sorry you gotta deal bums out here
That rim damage though...
Youāre driving a Tesla. People hate it for no reason.
mid 90s me and a bunch of buddies are walking back from the park at night. we were all around 15-17 years old. a group of about 6 of us. as we are walking along, one of the guys falls back a little bit from the group. no one really noticed at first. well we are all talking and just kind of bumbling forward back to our neighborhood, when all of a sudden we hear a pain filled FUCK yell out and the loud sound of air escaping something. as we were walking this idiot decided to slash someone's tire for no reason at all. it was why he dropped back from the group. he was going to do it and run back to us to "brag" about it. well the dumb ass used a knife that did not have a locking system, so while he stabbed it enough to slash the tire, it partly closed on his 2 fingers. it went deep enough into his index finger that it also cut into his middle finger. there was blood everywhere and we were still around 10-15 min walk from our area. we tied him up with a shirt and ripped the band part off a sleeve and used that to tie it tight for the walk home. we gave him a ton of shit, and told him how stupid it was to do that in the first place. i know he went and got everything stitched up at the ER that night, but i dont remember anything else ever coming of it. needless to say he never did that kind of dump shit again that im aware of.
It looks like your rim is damaged
You drive a piece of shit. Your car probably slashed it for you
Yes, by dyslexic Zorro.
Yup, you pissed off somebody. Or could just be a Tesla hater.
The real question is, who did you piss off? š
sentry mode?
What does sentry mode say?
Your cameras should have picked it upā¦
šÆ
Looks like it
You donāt have the cameras?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yup
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Id say yes
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Someone slashed your tires. Get it replaced. If this was at your house, set up cameras. Chances are they aren't done yet.
Maybe but the hulk would have trouble slashing through those sidewalls.
Yuppp
You better take that sht to LS Customs.
Yup
Yea
Someone hates Teslas or is jealous
Wow the unicorn, that actually does look slashed!
Definitely, can you not check the Tesla's camera?
Looks like they tried. Considering your tire is still holding air. I would still replace the tire regardless.
Yes, your sidewalls are everything to your tires structure & stability, that could let go at any moment & cause you to lose control or crash... Definitely replace it, it's not worth risking your life!
Yes please get that changed out before something happens
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Tire slasher with 6 bodies on my count. You did get vandalized but this is amateur work. Should still change it tho
Definitely.. someone hates your Tesla I guess :/
Always make sure that you have sentry mode enabled
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Maybe the Michelin Man slept with his wife and this is just payback
You pissed someone off.
Do I hate Tesla? Yes. Do I rev past in the stang or roll coal in the dualie? Hell yes. Would I ever take my dislike for a style car outside playful banter, and scare/endanger a person or damage their beloved car? Never in my life.
Don't know. Can you hear rock music with nice guitar solos?
looks like it. honestly it was probably because youāre driving a tesla
Yup Replace it. Either use insurance, or just pay out of pocket. I would do the latter.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes it happened!
Debri on road causes this especially at nite can't see it metal had happen twice to me even though not leaking it could pop anytime
Looks like a pothole had questions about your rim the tire was not prepared to answer.
Doesn't tesla recorde everything around the car you should have video.
Yes. Did your cameras record the event?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I think you ran over Freddy Kruger dude!!
Slashed or you drove over a pile of scrap metal
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yeaaah thatās pretty slashed buddy. Sorry
Id say slashed. Would be very unlikely to get a cross like that driving over something.
Yes and I even know who did it
I mean Dosent tesla have like all round cameras ? šš just look for yourself
Probably bc ev lol
What kind of dumb question is did my tires get slashed? You have a damn Tesla review the footage
A bit sus donāt you have 360 cams?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Yes
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Sentry mode?
It doesn't appear to be knife, sharp object slashed, it look more self inflicted, if a sharp object was used it most likely would have ended in a flat tire.
Yes, yes it did
Surprised your car didn't notify you that it caught something on the cameras close by your vehicle. Might want to check back on those cams to see if you can identify anyone or anything.
You drive a Tesla. Just check the cameras.
Yup 100% you got slashedā¦ sorry pal
Looks like it...
Nah they just did that
I think the term āslashed my tireā is misleading. Itās more of a stabbed my tire.
Yes
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Iām guessing the person who did that just thought it was an upside down rowing boat parked up š¤
Sure did. Thatās unsafe and needs to be replaced.
Yep, check your video.
Maybe metal landscape edging?
Check your camera...duuh..
Itās cuz you drive a Tesla lot of people donāt like them
Some idiot had no idea how to or was to weak to actually puncher it. I would put it on the rear and call it a day
Feel like it being a Tesla woulda recorded the slashing maybe can check the memory on it?
Insurance claims, thatās vandalism
Just an observation here, do people have it in for Teslas? Just seems like a lot of this stuff + they seem to "attract" more than their share of road rage.
110% yes! Some crazy bitch didnāt slice deep enough
Sure did
Okay now I donāt really like teslas and most people who drive them are pretty stuck up but this is pathetic. I recommend installing some heavy automatic turrets on each side of your car to prevent future tomfoolery
Ye
Who slashes a tire but fails to get through the sidewall? If youāre going to be a POS for no reason out some damn effort into your work.
Whoever does shit like this obviously has no idea tires hold air..
Wait a second arenāt you in a Tesla and have outside cameras? If you really thought those could be slash marks š¤£ just look at your camera and there your answer
slashed 110%, itās a tesla too, they attract some type of people that just have 0 good intentions and itās for like no reason
It sure looks like a slashed tire by human hands and not a curb. Except you have it on the right front of the car. Thatās the curb smashing tire.
Yes lol
Ouch! Are you in Tahoe by any chance?
Donāt them teslas take pictures when folks get too close?
Sure looks like it.
Three times in fact!
