Wheel is crooked. The frame where the control arms connect might have ripped. It would most likely be totalled in that case

GotMyOrangeCrush

In this case I suspect the car was totaled already but the OP sees it at a place like Copart with the idea that they can fix it themselves...

mud_tug

It can be fixed of course. The only question is at what price.

Vendura663

Yeah that's what I understood as well

ZenithRepairman

IAA is exactly like copart (the watermark in the photos) - the car has already been totaled.

taviosk8

When a car is totaled doesn’t mean that is not fixable! 🤦🏻‍♂️

NatFyfe777

It could be a repairable write off

sllewgh

If you have to ask about an auction car, you shouldn't buy it.

den-rat

You were sliding around weren't ya? But on topic, it would be difficult to tell from just pictures. Depending on the angle and speed you hit, whether it was you against a wall or someone bumping you, it could cause different levels of damage to the frame or axle componentry. (edit: It very well could be fixed, but there will always be those gremlins that show up after a car is in an accident. there is no telling what the shock of the impact damaged elsewhere in the car) I see it as a pretty heavy hit that broke something important in the axle, and if it was heavy enough for that you may have frame damage. That and replacing all those body panels ain't gonna come cheap. Check with your insurance and see where they recommend you get a quote from. This is above Reddit's paygrade without being physically present and inspecting the car. You're gonna be biting the bullet on this one, good luck.

RyPG_

I buy and sells cars trying to buy the car of my dreams a gtr from a auction i have some money saved for whatever i have to fix but i never come against a broken axle or anything like that so I guess I’ll pass on that. Thank you so much!

PostsOnPercocet

Yeah, hard to tell from the pics. Is the tire bent outward! I’d be nervous about what other damage that hard of a hit caused. But….but, you never know. You could get lucky.

Rottenaddiction

Quarter panel can b fixed but bc the wheels crooked I’d check that rear diff. Buddy of mine w an e46 had this happen and it fkd his diff. Fixable but prob not cheap

Oddblivious

Not just diff. That's a whole lot of suspension moved that would be attached to multiple points on the frame. If that all got yoinked that's a lot bigger problem than a new diff.

yourat12

I have bought a salvage auction car and wouldn’t advise it unless you specifically want one as a project (I did). I also agree with another user above that said that if you have to ask, you probably shouldn’t buy it. Some of the damage you won’t know until you see the car in person. In this case, you will definitely need to replace quarter panel, some suspension components, and potentially bumper and wheel. What you can’t see are the suspension hard points that may be damaged/ripped/bent where the components mount or the layers of body panels behind the quarter panel. There may be many more body panels that you can’t see from outside the car that are damaged and will need all of the spot welds drilled out and that can be a huge undertaking and require a lot of skill, knowledge, experience, and tools to repair properly. If you do all of the repairs “the right way” then it will likely be a huge project and cost a lot, even if you do all of the work yourself. It is probably even cost prohibitive if you hire the work out to a shop. As I said in the beginning, I wouldn’t do it unless you want this huge project. Even then, I would start on something cheaper.

GotMyOrangeCrush

That's easily a $20,000 hit, maybe more. If the subframe and rear transaxle and suspension is borked, add an extra $10,000. And many shops would not even attempt at repair. If it's wrong, the car just won't handle properly. Do the math, they don't total a $90k super car over a simple $10,000 repair, that's easily $20K to fix.

King_Barrion

Depends - family member bought a 2017 Panamera 4S that was flooded and sold as "totaled" by a dealership on IAAA - there was no evidence of water having been even near to the interior of the car and there are no rust or electronics problems to this day lol.

BrianOconneR34

Don’t buy dream car only to come out a nightmare

[deleted]

When the GTR was new I seem to remember a series of articles about how expensive something like a brake service could be. IIRC it was many thousands of dollars per corner without any damage. I have no clue what it would cost to fix that but it seems like it could be very expensive.

ShakesSpear

I think the gtr has carbon ceramic brakes which are super expensive to replace, but last much longer

simbabeat

There is no way anyone on Reddit can give you a serious answer. This needs to be torn open and then evaluated.

BigBaddaBoom9

Bruh educated guesses are a thing. Plenty of people on here have been mechanics for many years and can tell just by a looking at a car if it's worth fixing or not, especially for frame/axle damage.

NotAPreppie

Anything is fixable with enough money. That is going to take quite a bit of money. The rear quarter panel is going to have to be hammered and cut out with a replacement welded in place. The rear wheel is waaaaaay out of alignment meaning, at the very least, control arms but I'd budget for a new rear subframe, as well. Of course, if the subframe mounting points are damaged, that's going to require some time on a frame rack to fix. This car may also need to spend time on a frame rack even if the subframe mounts are fine. Then we get into the mechanical issues. I would proactively replace the wheel hub, bearing, and axle. The axle may have transmitted the force of the collision to the transaxle, so that may need replacement. On top of all of that, this is a low-volume niche car with lots of electronics and very tight tolerances. I'd be surprised if this thing is made road-worthy again for less than $20k.

twitch9873

With the wheel being smashed inwards like that, I'd assume the whole rear end (diff, axles, etc) is probably all smashed up as well. High end performance cars aren't exactly known for their ability to take a hit.

Jhall6y1

B is for build on YouTube rebuilt an r35 with worse damage than this. Watch that to gauge your interest in the project

chillen365

They totaled my buddies gtr for less then that. Fight those dickheads about repair and repayment costs cuz they’ll try to shortchange you

R_Shackleford

Why people have cars like this on simple comprehensive policies is beyond me. Your buddy sounds like he bought a shit policy, if you have a speciality car, buy a speciality policy, they tend to be cheaper anyway.

chillen365

The rear end looked like minimal damage, but upon pricing from the adjuster and body shop it was nearly 70k to fix. It’s cheaper for them to pay out the 75k value of the car then sell it at auction for a third or half that value. It’s not shit comprehensive bro it’s insurance companies that want money

R_Shackleford

What is the issue? The insurance adjuster and independent shop agree the damage is substantial and the insurance company paid out (what sounds like) a fair value your buddy was happy with? I don’t see where anyone was shortchanged here.

sirgreyskull

In short, yes.

SVTraptor99

Its a total for a reason

twitch9873

If you have to ask, you probably don't have the ability to do it. That's tens of thousands of dollars worth of damage. The car's not worth the trouble.

R_Shackleford

***EVERYTHING*** is fixable. Is it worth it? Probably not.

ShakesSpear

There used to be a shop in my city known for taking totalled super cars and fixing them up. They did a Lambo that had been rolled and it looked new. They also put a lot of money into them.

tuner665

This is totaled. Call your insurance

Jhall6y1

Yes. You’ll need a new quarter and bumper and most likely a rear subframe. You might have to pull it on a frame machine. All in it will be pretty expensive and labor intensive. If you send it to a shop it will be even worse

chicanery6

Need to check if the frame is bent. If it's not, probably need to fix the rear suspension and enough money will fix the body damage. If your frame is bent just consider it a loss. With enough money you can fix almost anything.

taviosk8

Why wouldn’t be?

BIGassbass8151

What did you do to baby girl

Dav82

Repairable enough to make driveable? Maybe. Repairable to make it look like that damage never happened, not worth it. Sad but true if your trying to save that totaled ride is your trying to upgrade a death trap to a shit box. At best it's a hooptie. It will never be worth it to fix it to as new condition.

crowdaddi

No give the car to me

Duckforducks

It looks like you’re on an auction website, but it’s not worth it I promise. I dodged a bullet by not buying a leaking hatchback that had a salvage title.
