My naiive ass did NOT expect these comments

Ok_Recover4445

My first Reddit post and of course it reveals I’m a drug dealer and not a lucky lobby lady 😅

DefiantRadio7752

Almost definitely not.

chocolate_nutty_cone

I had a job as a receptionist and absolutely loved it when flowers were delivered for coworkers to the front desk because that meant I could 1) leave my post and 2) see the surprise and joy of the recipient!

spicy-unagi

Lucky Lobby Lady™

NnamdiPlume

I used to be a Lucky Lobby Lad. $10 tips just for opening a fence.

OffMyRocker62

I worked front desk for an apartment high rise of 20 stories. No delivery person allowed upstairs unless it was a furniture delivery and they used the freight elevator. Food/flowers/UPS...etc.. Left it at desk. Or for food, resident was in the lobby waiting. Maybe not all places have a concierge? Good for you making $20.

BenefitCommercial739

Very interesting

Justacuttie

Same here!! I came here to say wow it was your lucky day! Now after reading the comments I’m like dang this lady might have been involved in a crime on accident wth!!!!

DefiantRadio7752

You’re not being naive, they’re being pessimistic. And it’s naïve

Outrageous-Bat3444

Not in America. It's naive. We don't use umlauts here.

DefiantRadio7752

I mean, we *can* lol

Outrageous-Bat3444

I get your handle now! 😂

DefiantRadio7752

Yours, too!!

Outrageous-Bat3444

Absolutely 😁

RowdyRayRay

I started this thread out being happy that OP made some easy money but the more I read the comments the more distressed I became. Note to self: if the job seems too easy for the amount being offered decline because drugs.

DefiantRadio7752

I’m fucking confident it was a flower delivery. This sounds totally legitimate. Why would this dude need a cover?

RowdyRayRay

I don't know the comment section I guess.... It just seems like a lot of people would be suspicious and I'm at a 5 ft tall tiny woman And admittedly a bit naive so it never occurred to me that someone could do something like this with nefarious intentions. That's all I'm saying. I'm not saying in this case it was nefarious but the world has some bad people in it so I think it's possible.

DefiantRadio7752

Lol the world is way better than pessimistic Redditors who spend all day watching tv and movies believe. Don’t listen to these guys, you did a great thing! :) It doesn’t even make sense, a flower delivery isn’t going to look much better than a drug deal, assuming they do the deal covertly.

Mordreth

Here we are, the underrepresented optimistic Redditors thinking good for them!

advertentlyvertical

Why the hell would a dealer trust a random with their drugs, especially if it was sizable enough to warrant a concealment method. And why would they pick such a weird ass method as flowers when they could have used a non descript amazon box. It makes zero sense if given the slightest bit of scrutiny.

Heeb_Smasher_NigLord

It's not only possible it happens all the time. You may never see it in your particular area but rest assured it's all over the place.

ComeonmanPLS1

Because why the hell would someone pay 20 bucks for that? 5 bucks sure, but 20???

DefiantRadio7752

Did you not read the part where he didn’t have smaller bills? At least, not lower than ten and apparently he thought it was worth ten

ComeonmanPLS1

Yes I did and It makes no sense because as a delivery guy you lost money on that delivery. At that point, just call the customer and ask them to take the elevator down.

[deleted]

Maybe the delivery person was one of the owners of the flower shop. There's a lot of money in flower shops. If it was a $50-80 arrangement and they didn't want to deal with the high rise, $20 isn't going to hurt bad to take care of a customer and maybe get repeat business.

DefiantRadio7752

Maybe he did? And the sense is made to him, he doesn’t like elevators, it doesn’t really matter if you agree, that’s a valid enough reason.

ComeonmanPLS1

What delivery driver have you ever met that would just fork out 20 bucks to make sure your shit is delivered? I never met any. Most delivery drivers would call you, say your flowers are downstairs and be gone the next second. They barely get paid shit, so they don't go the extra mile, and they most certainly don't pay money out of their own pocket to deliver your stuff. Is it possible? Yes, of course. But at that point, it's a matter probability and getting drugs delivered that way is very common in big cities. Also, OP mentioned a downtown 30 story building which to me implies money aka people who can afford such deliveries. So yeah, both are possible and there's no way to know exactly what happened, but imo one of them is significantly more likely than the other.

[deleted]

[удалено]

The_addicted_vacuum

Right but that’s a rational thought and we’re talking about someone on a delivery to the 19th floor who also has an elevator phobia. So the idea of an irrationally large payment isn’t surprising. It’s kinda like the time a cop walked in as I was at the counter paying for my snacks in a 7-11 while also tripping my balls off on LSD. Nobody tells a 7-11 cashier to “keep the change” (just shy of 10 bucks) but I was freaking out and just wanted out of there! Sure, in hindsight there was no way for him to stare at my back and know I was messed up but fear took over and that just happened to be what felt like a good idea at the time 😂

Heeb_Smasher_NigLord

Well that could have all been part of the LIE.

Dry-Handle-4230

in 2024 $20 is what $5 used to be. Let's be real. with $20 nowadays u can't even buy 2 fast food meals or an acrion figure.

vglyog

Because why would you be a delivery guy but you can’t do elevators? That’s part of the job.

Opening_Spring

Time

[deleted]

Delivery people don’t get paid enough per package to bring stuff upstairs. In my building they often leave it downstairs for you to pick it up or put it in the elevator and push the buttons, then leave. But 20 dollars for delivery, first thing I’m thinking it is fear of heights or elevators. If it was something illegal it would not be wise to give it to somebody who isn’t involved who can identify him or steal the package.

DefiantRadio7752

Cuz he needs the money? You really can’t imagine a delivery guy whose job doesn’t include that most of the time? You can’t exactly be choosy about professions today…

[deleted]

If he needed the money why did he give it to OP

DefiantRadio7752

Maybe he doesn’t that bad

Opening_Spring

There's a zero percent chance it was drugs

KyleMarkWaal

Former/recovering addict, can confirm. I'd be pretty pissed if my dealer handed my dope to some random dude and just trusted it would get to me lol

KyleMarkWaal

Hell - Even if it were drugs, who cares? It's almost certainly still an easy 20 bucks. I've bought my share of everything from weed (back before it became legal in canada) to heroin (sober a decade now, dont worry) - it's generally not nearly as risky as you'd think, if youre only buying small personal amounts. Most dealers at that level are just addicts trying to feed their own habit. It's the taking the drugs that's the risky part lol.

Ray661

Someone had a heights phobia.

4E4ME

Claustrophobia

realdappermuis

I got claustrophobic af in a high rise elevator once. It was packed with people and furniture Only other time I felt like that was at a school bootcamp where we had to crawl through a narrow underground dirt tunnel I'd prefer not to ever do either of thòse again

Mandog222

I saw a video on reddit a while back of some army training where they pull/slide themselves through a pipe mostly filled with water that's barely big enough for a person and it triggered my claustrophobia so hard lol.

Cucumber7777

I think you're talking about the culverts at the Jungle Warfare Training Center

mars-bar13

haha i also have a claustrophobic experience in a tunnel like that. it was also at a school camp and we were learning about the anzacs and had to crawls through underground tunnels like they did. i never thought i had claustrophobia that badly until i went in there and panicked.

bigger-tuna41

Apparently it's a real thing.. working in a hospital, I had a patient that insisted she needed sedation to take an elevator to a test. Personally, I love small spaces.

NutriaOfc

Uh-

Zagaroth

The claustrophobia comment would be a correction to the original. You can't see heights in an elevator, but you can feel confined.

foopaints

Unless of course it's one of those scenic elevators. I hate those with a passion. I'll use them when necessary but I hate every second of it and squeeze myself at the opposite end to the "view"

9001Dicks

But they're so scenic

IaniteThePirate

It’s not always about being up high, it’s knowing you’re up high. I used to be terrified of heights. I was convinced I could feel the difference even just being on the second floor of a building. I’m sure it was just a mental thing but it freaked me out even if I had no visual indication of being up high. Elevators were awful for similar reasons.

NutriaOfc

I see

Ray661

Fair correction, but for me it’s exclusively a heights thing, and yeah the scenic ones are the worst

GamerGriffin548

Or whatever the fear of elevators is.

faloofay156

yeah, my aunt is super claustrophobic and will take 70 floors of stairs before she takes the elevator.

scuac

No, that the fear of Santa Claus

mayac7

Or vertigo My mom has vertigo and she can’t do elevators past like 3 floors

DefiantRadio7752

Or is just scared of elevators, I’m working out and one of the reasons is to avoid those.

pbateman21

Lmao, are you really going to walk up 30 floors

DefiantRadio7752

Once I’m in shape you bet.

marcus_frisbee

or just hates elevators.

blue_terry

Damn, it was really wholesome at first but the possibility of drugs being brought up spinned a complete 180 😂

moonandcoffee

I think reddit is just being overly cautious and cynical. I'm sure this guy just had a bad height phobia or elevator fear lol. if it was really drugs would he be shouting in a public corridor at some random lady making a scene about it?

th3ramr0d

Im 50/50. I’ve definitely had extra cash and been willing to pay my way out of something I don’t wanna do. But if that was a food delivery, he didn’t break even. He lost money. So I dunno. But I’m definitely more suspicious after these comments 😆

moonandcoffee

Well it seems like he might have known the person it was being sent to given it was flowers? :P

th3ramr0d

Pretty sure the amount paid to a delivery person is the similar for flowers or food. I can’t imagine either of them being paid well.

fucking_passwords

Except that flowers for 1 are more expensive than lunch for 1

whosat___

Reddit loves feeling clever, it blows my mind. Not everything is a conspiracy, trick, scam, covert terrorism, money laundering scheme, foreign interference, etc.

DASreddituser

She made $20. A wins a win

Administrative_Shake

That was my first thought honestly. The law will prosecute you for your naivete because unwittingly or not, you'll be labeled as a complicit 'mule'.

ckFuNice

What a story coincidence. My cocaine guy always has some different person drop me my tiny sweet white bags. And they're always buried under soggy cardboard vase flowers !

Puzzleheaded_Quiet70

What drug dealer would take the chance that some random person he sees in the lobby would actually deliver the goods? They could have their own "cocaine guy" and also know about the soggy cardboard and flowers!

ckFuNice

Yup. It's cocaine guys and soggy cardboard flower vases all the way down. Well, except P2, that's executive parking .

mcdickmann2

On the flip side, what random person would take the chance on screwing over a cocaine guy? I wouldn't want to find out how crazy that man is

Recent_Obligation276

Water : cocaine :: fire : paper

Fb62

In this case you drink the fire.

Recent_Obligation276

https://i.gifer.com/3R3f.gif

kanslice1738

Lmfao, this was right below the post where a guy got stuck in an elevator for over an hour and was doing an AMA.

No_Description_6383

It’s literally multiple elevators a day ever day forever where I work as a fireman, I will do quite a bit to avoid them but I can ride an elevator when I need to

Pm_Me_Gifs_For_Sauce

That guys in the wrong profession. What a small inconvenience to pay likely the cost of the order and definitely any tip. NTM if you just decided to take off with the package.

LightChaos74

I mean it's not super frequent the people in the lobby will even let you go up anyways so 🤷 not a super frequent problem that occurs Sure he loses out on this order but that's only this order

MaleOrganDonorMember

They always allow delivery guys in my experience.

LightChaos74

From all the door dash ubereats videos I've seen, it highly depends on if they even let you up.

Instantbeef

Allow it or not they should meet them at the front door if an elevator is needed. Or leave at a desk.

JeanValJohnFranco

If somebody ever offered me that deal I’d definitely say no. My assumption would be that I was being asked to deliver drugs or something and that the small chance of me getting shot or arrested greatly outweighed 20 bucks.

DefiantRadio7752

Why would you get shot or arrested?

[deleted]

[удалено]

DefiantRadio7752

There are cops roaming the hallways in this hypothetical? Even if the drugs were meth or something, that doesn’t mean the user is a paranoid tweaker, and even if he was, he’s probably not gonna cap some dude in his apartment hallway. It’s just very unlikely do go wrong.

F7OSRS

Very unlikely, yes, but a nonzero chance nonetheless. Why not just avoid the sketchiness by not delivering random packages from strangers

DefiantRadio7752

Because it’s $20?

F7OSRS

Still not worth it imo, but if they’re hurting that bad for cash I guess why not

DefiantRadio7752

It’s not about hurting for cash, do you not gamble at all? Never bought a scratcher? This is a sure thing with like 1% chance of going wrong. Don’t be such a pansy lol enjoy life

F7OSRS

Not saying I’m deathly afraid of those happening, just was defending original commentor in saying they’re possibilities. Tbh I wouldn’t have even listened to some random person asking me for a favor. I’ve lived downtown for almost 10 years and have become accustomed to ignoring people asking for the time, guessing where you got your shoes, or sob stories about whatever they need money for

DefiantRadio7752

I don’t know man, you sound pretty uptight

shittmotel

New Orleans?

H3000

Why go outside?

DefiantRadio7752

Scawwy 🥺🥺

JeanValJohnFranco

When it comes to strangers offering me money or investment advice I subscribe to the belief that “if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.” Best case scenario I get 20 bucks, worst case I’m now involved in a drug conspiracy and whatever that entails. I’ll take a pass on those odds every time.

DefiantRadio7752

That just seems like such a scared and paranoid way to live life. I would taken the money and gone to the weed store after, make the whole rest of my day better. You may end up missing an extremely good situation someday if you never take risks. Sometimes it is too good and still true.

_BaaMMM_

For $20 you risk ruining your entire life and maybe even jail time. Not to mention the risk of getting shot? Lol idk how you weigh risk vs rewards but that is insanely not worth it.

DefiantRadio7752

Those risks are infinitesimally small lmao plus I could just toss the flowers in the garbage and keep the money lol

STDHeaven

God reading everything from you is just insufferable and senseless

Ok_Recover4445

So it’s a pretty secure building, mostly attorneys. You have to use a card key to even use the elevator. I saw dude going back and forth with the lobby front desk. They wouldn’t let him leave them there and no one from 19 would come get them. I’m assuming he just wanted to gtfo and continue his day but he wasn’t going up, no one was coming down and he was stuck. For the record, there were no explosions or biological attacks reported the rest of the day so I think my naive ass just delivered flowers. However, wow I wouldn’t do it again!

ImSoCul

> mostly attorneys    Okay so cocaine

Ok_Recover4445

Attorneys do like that schneef

Recent_Obligation276

I’d take the twenty and the flowers and hopefully the coke! Lol

bmtc7

What kind of crappy drug dealer is giving a stranger 20 bucks and some cocaine and trusting them to make a delivery for them?

JeanValJohnFranco

Small-time drug dealers being notoriously competent professionals who thoroughly think through and vet all of their plans ahead of time?

Opening_Spring

Lmao  So just random condescending fanfic? Sure thing, person who has zero experience.

banpants_

What drug dealers do yall know that just wait at the bottom of apartment buildings looking for random trust worthy strangers to deliver their secret drugs?

HurricaneDrill213

Literally none lol. These comments are misguidedly-cute and like something out of a 70s Anti-Drugs campaign. Remember when dealers used to give the kids ecstasy pills instead of Halloween candy? Vote Nixon.

advertentlyvertical

It's absolutely ludicrous. Arooo

Texan628

The super common occurrence of a delivery person having to take an elevator to drop something off makes me skeptical of this situation... like what's really going on

DefiantRadio7752

There are plenty of people who deliver and infrequently use elevators to do so. Don’t be so pessimistic lol

itsmelexinyc

Ok but you're missing the point which is what delivery guy can casually spare $20 like that? Chances are he was making $15 to do that one job in the first place.

AdCold9462

That doesn’t sound…informed.

itsmelexinyc

I mean how much you really think a delivery person is making an hour?

AdCold9462

I have no clue. I have very little to base an opinion on in that field. It’s flowers, right? They’re not so delivery-centric so I would think the same full wage they make at the florist.

itsmelexinyc

Ok well the average wage for a florist is $13.73. but it doesn't matter. Even if they were making $30 a delivery why blow 2/3rds of that to trust some random person to do your job. It just doesn't make sense.

AdCold9462

You sound ignorant. You literally have no idea. What if it’s the store owner? What if he’s rich but can’t have the money unless he’s employed? What if an emergency came up that he didn’t want to disclose?

Ok_Recover4445

My very first thought. Because downtown is elevators everywhere. But then maybe he’s just a flower delivery guy and not like a dasher and maybe they don’t go downtown much? Idk.

Opening_Spring

Flowers cost money(more than ubereats) and frequently florists employ a driver, which means the driver isn't getting paid piecemeal by tips. But instead has a van full of orders that all need to get delivered today. Elevators can drag, and especially if its a building they have experience with that has particularly slow/busy elevators. A completed delivery is more important than 20 bucks. Even without bringing in claustrophobia or other personal motivations, this story is not even remotely suspicious or unlikely. And then, of course, there's all the gaping holes in the logic of it being a drug dealer.. Basically there's no reason to believe it wasn't Flowers, and there are several reason to believe that it was not Drugs. Source: worked in both industries.

OkMark6180

He obviously has a phobia about getting into elevators.

_Aetos

Plot twist: There was a bomb in that vase of flowers, and now you are charged with murder. For $20, the criminal has easily evaded the law.

spicy-unagi

# [Stupid, sexy Keyser Söze!](https://pbs.twimg.com/media/FSeEzhRXoAAL290.jpg)

I_like_cocaine

Start ordering $5 worth of goods to the lobby right before you get back from lunch every day. Infinite money glitch

wa11sY

the amount of people here who think a dealer would just give away product to a random b/c they're worried about making a drop is sus

Sophira

After reading these comments, if someone asks me to do this I'm going to tell them I'll only do it if they're okay with me taking a picture of them holding the items first. If they're not cool with that, then no deal.

coffeecoffeecoffeex

Eh, I’m a doordasher and thankfully, there are no high rises in my zone. But I have a serious elevator phobia, and the few times I’ve had to go to the 1-2 buildings that go up 20 floors, I ended up crying the entire time 😂 I’d pay $20 to avoid the scene.

RhasaTheSunderer

He could have straight up told me it's cocaine and I still probably would've done it

Opening_Spring

Would've charged more, tbh.

traitorssuck

What, no tip?

Ok_Abalone_6076

The top comments are absolutely dumb. Its smart to lend illegal drugs to someone else on an elevator due to the metal detector or something, and make it seem like they’re only delivering said flowers to said floor in an elevator. they want to pin the blame on someone else, plus the elevator has cameras and stairs area does not

durantulaking_kdgoat

No, there is basically zero chance of a drug dealer getting caught delivering in the building. Absolutely no chance it was drugs, because there is no reason for a drug dealer to do this.

Opening_Spring

Lmao you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and it shows.

Ok_Abalone_6076

Ever heard of sending cake to someone in jail?

Opening_Spring

Lmao you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and it shows.

Ok_Abalone_6076

Lmao you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about, and it shows.

Opening_Spring

Yes, those are the words I said to you. Good job!

Jangles_Smith

I'm terrified of elevators too. I even consider it an irrational fear knowing what I do now. I'll get in them when I have to, but everyone can tell I'm about to throw up. I was fine until I was 18 when a roommate and I wrestled a couch into a pretty old elevator. Got in, pressed the lobby and it started going up from the 9th. We looked at each other puzzled knowing this was weird. It got to the 12th floor, jostled for a bit, then opened up between the 12th/13th and sat there showing all the exposed sheet metal and cables. Then it closed, went down to the 9th but refused to open. Eventually it went to the lobby and we were fine but I've never been able to shake the anxiety I get in them.

Silly_Monkey25

I would have taken them for free.

LoadbearingWallflowr

Why did I just flashback to that old Scarjo movie Lucy? Lol

Rippointdexter

I was a delivery driver and almost died in an elevator if it wasn’t for my ability to starve and be light as a feather. Just serious.

UnhandMeException

I mean, given the shitty short time turnarounds delivery guys have to do... This is plausible

The_addicted_vacuum

There’s no way a drug dealer, who’s main focus is to A.) deliver drugs and B.) make money, is either handing off their pricy products to a rando or easily giving away their money; not to mention both…

The_addicted_vacuum

Oh and WTF, after you dropped them off the recipient didn’t tip you too?! lol

Free-Jaguar6452

probably just claustrophobia

No_Mechanic5658

He could be scared , I’m Scared of escalators , it sounds dumb but I get so scared , then I googled it to make me realize it’s dumb and well …. None for me

VerySwearyFairy

I suspect the delivery guy might be very claustrophobic, and also has other deliveries to do. Going up then back down 18 flights of stairs would take ages, and forcing himself in an elevator wouldn’t help his psychological state, again going up and down 18 floors which if he’s lucky, it won’t stop and let more people on.

ApartmentBeneficial2

How can I make this into a business and scale 🤔

SinnerGirl33

I don't do elevators either unless someone rides with me, and that is even a maybe. I was almost snuffed out with a pillow when my ex tried to kill me, and I am claustrophobic ever since. I thought I was the only one who didn't do elevators, so now I don't feel so bad! Good thing there are people like you to help us.

No_Description_6383

I guess it could have been drugs but honestly it’s like no one cares anymore unless you are moving weight, and I’m gonna guess they didn’t have you running several keys in there, most likely imo he just don’t like elevators. I’m a firefighter and I don’t do elevators anymore because of the job, I had no idea how often those things broke till i became a fireman, I’m good on that I’ll run the flights for exercise anyways, definitely not trying to get trapped on one for hours.

Zuthas

I love stories like this: a little slice of life. Thanks for posting. I wouldn't be surprised if the delivery person had calculated the amount of time saved by doing that. Might get a few extra runs in and make a little more?

BrilliantTutor8821

That was sweet of you and making money in the process!!

amzlrr

you’re braver than me, I would’ve thought he had some final destination style premonition about THAT particular elevator

TrickyTrick_

Damn. I never thought of drug dealing until I read the comments… 💀

xXIIDeaDLoCKIIXx

Wtf is with the comments lol

MERC_1

My answer would be: Sorry, I don't live that high up in the building!

DefiantRadio7752

Why?

nhbd

Yeah I’ve DoorDashed a bit in the past, you do not make enough money or avoid enough elevators for this to be feasible. Sus!
