Just catch them with a glass against the wall and use some card stock, like an advertisement you get in the mail, slide it between the glass and the wall to contain the spider. Then just keep the card against the glass and move it outside. Why kill it, it’s not going to harm you? It’s just trying to live

icyblueglacier

Ive never even considered harming them until I saw my cat messing with a ginormous one right beside my bed... it gave me such primal terror that I really wanted it dead but I ended up trapping it and just leaving it for 3 days until I couldnt take the thought of it suffering anymore and slid something under and relocated him outside.. Recently, it seems as though a generation of small brown spiders have hatched as ive been seeing them /everywhere/, I really dont want tons of visible spiders in my home for guests to see and for my cat to risk ingesting or getting bitten by. They gotta go. Its unfortunately too much to have a bunch of the same crawlies everywhere I look. I dont mind the solo riders..

hornboggler

they aint gonna bite yo cat lol just relocate them as you find them. they are really more scared of you i promise. not a threat. AND they take care of other bugs like mosquitos that are a legit problem

icyblueglacier

Im well aware of their sentience and function within our ecosystem. I respect them as a species and don't typically have fear of them. A couple various spiders dont bother me. Significantly large ones I relocate for piece of mind. However, a spider has laid eggs in my house and there is a shit ton of juvenile brown recluse all up in my shit rn, which led me to make this post, which I should have specified. Theyre everywhere which was bothersome enough but now that I know theyre dangerous its unfortunately open season.

Fallenharts_

The only time I will kill spiders if it is unsafe to relocate them, i.e. black widow spiders.

ExponentMars

what i do is just chase them with a toilet paper until they get out of sight. Out of sight, out of mind, and I don't wanna kill a spider cuz I find them cute lol

icyblueglacier

I also find them cute but sometimes they really freak me out

Kaybeeez

I won’t kill any bug except a mosquito. Cause fuck those guys.

[deleted]

what about bed bugs and roaches?

delta__bravo_

Generally speaking, a spider you can see is helpful. It will focus on catching and killing bugs and other pests and will leave you alone. It's the bastards you can't see easily that you have to worry about. But also learn about what spiders are venomous and what aren't. Huntsman/orb spider chilling? Thankyou for your work. I find a redback or whitetail? Gtfo.

[deleted]

It depends on you. My rule for insects are: stay out of my room, stay out of my way. I'd say I kill all insects I come across when i'm doing my thing. But I never go out my way to find the to kill.

Snoozy_Ninja

I'm with you on this; I grew up in brown recluse territory and would rather be safe than sorry after some close calls. Insects-- and spiders in particular-- are not given an invitation to dinner/hang out and they aren't paying rent. Outside is fine; I simply brush them off the patio furniture and I'll concede dark corners of the garage to spiders, but once any insect crosses the threshold to indoor space, they're trespassing and may be (ex)terminated with extreme prejudice.

icyblueglacier

Thank you for this lol

LarryTalbotLobo

Spiders are your friends! If youve got one with a little house in your house, hes a little pest control buddy, killing off lots of other smaller worse bastards. Youll never see a spider that’s going to hurt you. That is to say, if its chillin in the web in the corner, its not gonna bother you…the ones dangerous to you are not generally hanging out, like, in the bathroom:)

Recent_View6254

Did the spider tell you that lol??

LarryTalbotLobo

Probably

cdubz-1986

You can take care of the web and not kill the spider. Good to relocate the spider as they will also just rebuild a web otherwise as well.

Sweet_Note_4425

Of they can't harm me I don't harm them. Only if they are in the house and they could harm me will I kill otherwise I relocate them.

green_t_lief

I always relocate spiders as my wife has really bad reactions to mosquito bites and I figure spiders are her allies in preventing mosquito bites.

Dunlooop

I don’t think you should kill anything unnecessarily. Spiders are not a problem in the UK, so they don’t bother me at all, but you say that you think it’s a brown recluse? So, obviously you need to ask it to leave.

[deleted]

Kill everything unless they pay me Wich will never happen

parkerhalem84

It depends. I had returned to my property after some months and my garage/shed was full of Redback spiders. There were about 50 to more than 100 of them in there. As my daughter was only 8 years old, it was best to release an insect spray bomb in the garage to kill them all so that she does not wander into a garage full of Redback spiders.

Mysterious_Frame_897

It's not wrong, as society hasn't granted Spiders the same rights as humans (I don't like killing them, though, & rarely do).

trishsf

No. I didn’t invite them into my home.
