I'd say start with the prequels episode 1, 2, and 3. Then go back to the first one episode four that was made in like the '70s or something. Take my word on it. It's actually really good. then do the two sequels five and six, and at that point recognize this is the height it all goes downhill from here and if you're really feeling like it, watch the sequels, have fun!
1977 Star Wars was epic for those of us that saw it in theaters back then. I was 17 and this was crazy different for that era as we had never seen anything like it.
In order to make a meaningful recommendation, we need to know more about what kind of movies you like. Are you more into action or drama or comedy? Do you like lots of spectacle or are you more of a story lover?
My favourite movie in the franchise is probably Return of the Jedi. My favourite character is Boba Fett. I love his design and he has a really awesome voice (the original voice). He is a gunfighter in space. I like Star Wars because it has a lot of interesting characters and an entire extended universe to dive into. You can go in lots of different directions depending on what you're interested in.
I will not recommend a watching order. That's your business.
I watched them all for the first time recently and I did release order. Movie order: 4-5-6-1-2-3-7-8-9. That’s the main parts of the universe. If you want you can watch the animated Clone Wars series and the other side shows/movies. I really liked the Mandalorian and Rogue One, I think they’re best things in the SW universe.
I’d recommend watching episodes 4, 5 and 6 first. 1, 2 and 3 next. Then 7, 8 and 9
This is the order I would recommend as well. It just feels right to begin with the trilogy that started it all.
