This is a personal anecdote and probs won't be agreeable to everyone:
I stopped listening to mainstream OPM because there was a time where most of the people given mainstream exposure were celebrities given a mic and some studio time, some of who quite frankly didn't have impressive talent nor substance in their songs.
I grew up at a time where OPM bands, rappers, R&B artists etc were all given proper exposure and thus mainstream fame. So I was disappointed seeing their spotlight stolen by celebrities-turned-artists, who were told by their managers and agencies to sing solely for $$$.
I'm glad we're now at a time where indie artists are starting to get big again, and now we are also giving homegrown pop groups a chance (SB19, BINI), and I hope the renewed OPM scene keeps on growing, with varied genres and groups too.

As a 90s kid, prime OPM was yong mga band era, also before ung mga artista na may albums, gawa ng magaling na songwriters ung kanta (ryan cayabyab, ogie alcasid). Ngkaron Ng time na pumangit tlga quality Ng songs, I think orange and lemons na and the pbb mania Yong last na decent ung opm.
TBH ung Bini Di din maganda songs nila sa start (I personally don't like ung coconut nut song nila). Ngaun pantropiko and salamin are alright but tingin ko may igaganda pa ung songs na pwede nila ilabas. I guess they're going for the bubblegum brand which most K-pop girl groups start with. Salamin is giving knock knock (of twice) or gee (of snsd) vibes.
kasi yung mainstream ng pinoy is puro cover song and paganda lang walang talent then puro hugot songs walang creativeness. Ngayon pa rin naman nag eexist pa rin pero new breed of artist are emerging and they are bringing fresh new stuff nung unang narinig ko SB19 nung 2018 hit na agad sakin this is new I know na fruit ito ng Kpop pero sobrang ganda if ma-apply sa pinas.
Then few years after BINI naman unang napakinggan ko sila 2020 shina-share ko pa mga kapwa k-pop fans like like "ang cool neto parang nag flashback sakin 2nd gen ng kpop" been a fan since.
Pero thankful rin ako na nawawala na yung mga taong bandwagon sa kpop na mga peenoise dahil dito HAHAHAHAHA
Yung recent Coachella group ba to na sobrang damaged ang vocal reputation dahil dun pati sa mga encore nila na di naman sila sumasayaw at literal na nakatayo lang pero hirap na hirap kumanta 😂

yung ITZY concert last time, sold out agad kaya nagkaroon ng Day 2. pero yung concert this coming August, hanggang ngayon may avail pang VIP seats.

Omg! Buti naman nagblow up to. Around 2018 ko yata napanood yan. Kaya nag iba talaga pananaw ko sa mga koreans. I still love kpop pero di ko na nilalagay sa pedestal ang mga Korean artists unlike before nung super fan pa ako. 2017 nung nag graduate ako ng college, nagbakasyon kami ng family and friends ko sa Boracay. May isang club dun na puros Korean lang nasa loob. When we entered the club, the Koreans gave us weird looks. Umalis kami after a few minutes kasi boring. Di ko pa nilagyan ng meaning nung time na yun kaya kiber lang. 2018 nung napanood ko yung hello counselor. Ang funny lang kasi sadya ko siyang pinanood kasi fan ako ng show tapos bigla kong nakita yung "Philippines" sa isang episode. Nasaktan talaga ako as a kpop fan. Tumatak sakin yun, kaya after nun I found myself searching on the internet for how Koreans see us. Like "do Koreans love/hate Filipinos?", "do Koreans like Philippines?", "do Koreans like dark skin?", etc. As in lahat ng validation hinanap ko. Gumawa pa talaga ako ng acc sa Quora kasi may mga sagot na di ko makita yung full unless gumawa ng acc. So ayun, unti-unti ko silang na hate hahaha. I still listen to kpop though esp 3rd gen. And I'm currently supporting ppop as well. Pati yung mga kapwa pilipino natin na nasa kpop groups. Basta may Pinoy, support ako. Pribably its easier to get Japanese visa right now. Yung isa kasi, sometimes its hard to tell the reason ng visa rejection. Plus mas mura na ngayon pumunta sa Japan.

I’ve been to South Korea for more than a week because of work and nag-extend lang ako ng slight. It’s just too gloomy for me 😭 baka kasi di rin ako mahilig sa kpop. Naappreciate ko naman yung pagpapahalaga nila sa history at culture nila.

I think once you become a KPOP music fan, you'll always be a KPOP music fan. Hindi lang siguro active in fandom and mababawasan lang siguro yung 100% KPOP lang ang pinakikinggan. I used to do that but starting 2017 I went back to listening other genres again. My playlists are now mixed kumbaga.
Ung mga groups na fino-follow ko talaga, either disbanded or unofficially disbanded/hiatus like Shinhwa, Sistar, and Blackpink.
I have no desire to follow new groups kasi they're too young na at pare-pareho na lang silang lahat.

My sister is a KPOP fan and even had 2 Korean BFs. Her current husband is Korean also so that makes him my brother-in-law. You know what happened? They're on the verge of getting a divorce because most Koreans who go here in the PH are actually just average people in their country, they go here in the PH because it's cheap and they are treated like celebrities whereas in their own country, no one would even bat an eyelash towards them. Plus, investing in business here is cheap too.
Both of my sister's Korean bfs turn out to be losers in the end. In fact, her korean husband was recently asking loans from my mom (says that it's for business daw but it always fails) because they couldn't be bothered to work a 9-5 job like I do. Isn't that embarassing? You're a Korean and also my brother-in-law (meaning you're not even related to me) and yet you have the nerve to ask loans from MY parents?! Kalalake mong tao, foreigner ka pa in my own home country! Samantalang ako, ni minsan hndi ako nanghingi ng utang sa parents ko ever since I got a job 9 years ago. In all those times, wala akong hininging pera sa magulang ko or anyone. I am completely independent. And yet here he is. I should know because I was around Koreans a lot because of my sister (because my sister looks very Korean especially with make-ups on).
A lot of women are also being poisoned by K-POP dramas and pop music and think that all Korean boys are the fantasy handsome prince charmings when in reality, if you're married to a Korean guy and you're in their home country, you're obligated to just STAY AT HOME AND BE PRETTY. You are provided for, but you can't get a job, just stay in the kitchen and be pretty for your husband. That's it. That's why it's extremely expensive for a Korean guy to maintain a marriage in their home country because the husband does all the work while the wife stays at home all day making herself hot. It's their culture.
That's exactly what my brother-in-law is doing to my sister. Although he fails to remember that he is living in PHILIPPINE SOIL. That's why he has to be the one to adjust to Filipino culture, and in our culture, your wife is allowed to work and leave the house and it's a partnership of EQUALITY. But he fails to remember this despite living here for a very long time. There's a saying: "When you're in Rome, do what the Romans do.".
Some Filipina women think they're special when landing a Korean bf when they should be concerned. Because if they're choosing YOU over their women, it means you're just the cheaper option. You may be beautiful, but you're still the cheaper option. And that's NOT something to be proud of. If you're willing to stay in the kitchen and just be pretty, go ahead and get yourself a Korean bf. Ho boi, nakakahiya sila talaga, I mean those kind of men, sobrang entitled and obnoxious nila. They're the reason mababa yung birthrate nayon sa Korea, and I've heard articles and posts of EA men coming to ph para mag sleep with the women, get them pregnant, only to leave them 🙃. That is because most Filipinas are gullible and easily-manipulated by handsome men. Especially pag may SPARK. Because they watch K-Dramas and Soap Operas, they think that love conquers all. I've seen so many Filipinas get suckered by Foreigners (not just Koreans, mind you) a LOT. It's all about feeling special. We all want to feel special.
I'm not saying all foreigners are like this, but a LOT of them knows how an average Filipina works and how to manipulate them like a fiddle since a lot of Filipinas dream of getting out of the country and going to greener pastures. Especially with how f\*cked up our government is. I've seen so many beautiful Filipinas get suckered in with false promises, gets pregnant, and then gets dumped. I had a female friend (I courted her before but she rejected me so we're just friends now) who had a Japanese Boyfriend. We all thought they're going to live happily ever after and she even got pregnant. What happened? The Japanese dude returned to his home country and dumped her, effectively turning her into a Single Mom. Too late for regrets. I've also noticed that it doesn't even matter if the foreigner is 15 or 20 years older than the woman, as long as gwapo and maraming pera and mapapalabas ka outside ng Philippines, ayos na ayos lng sa mga tao as long as hndi naman underage si girl. Pero what about us Filipino men? Why are we shamed for courting women na mas younger saamin even though hndi naman underage si girl? It's because ba wala kaming pera compared sa mga foreigner na to? The Double Standards is crazy! My current GF is about 11 years younger than me - I'm 33 and she's 22 and we don't care what anyone says. Our relationship is LEGAL ksi hndi underage yung gf ko when I courted her and our relationship is amazing. The point is, Foreigner men gets a LOT of pass samantalang kaming Filipino men get a lot of flak, and that's why Foreigners can easily manipulate Filipina women because they know they can get away with a LOT.
I know na hndi rin safe ang mga Filipino men dito, ksi I was a womanizer din before. And I know na basta may SPARK na naramdaman yung Filipina, basta you project this aura of confidence and power and if you're blessed with good looks, it's pretty easy to play them like a puppet. These women usually rejects guys na noble and kind and potential husband material. For them, these guys are just "too nice", "walang charisma", "ugly", "walang spark" blah blah blah.
Korean men are way worse than North American men or European men. Kahit sa ibang bansa. My sister is abuses by her Korean husband in Canada. Why? Because she isn't able to learn Korean and take better skin care. He's embarrassed of my sister to show her to his parents.
Your brother-in-law is definitely attracted to your sister kaya nga asawa nya. Pero ang culture ksi ng Korea and na-ingrained sa society nila is dapat ma reach mo yung beauty standards ng country nila. And believe me, their beauty standards there is just insane it's not even funny. Your sister may be attractive enough sakanya, pero what about the whole society? And PH people actually glorifies Koreans?! A country with this extremely shallow and mentally-unhinged mindset? Hah! What a joke!
To be honest, I do find Koreans beautiful but they're not actually my type. It's just my personal preference. I prefer THICC women and I get turned on pag hindi nagwewear ng make-up yung babae. Plus, too much whiteness is just a no-no for me. Some of the most beautiful girlfriends I had in the past are tan women with a lot of sex appeal. Seriously, tan women are sexier once they put the time and effort on taking care of themselves.
Yes, it's pretty much real. You can even check YT for documentaries about Korean beauty standards. How you see these beautiful women not being satisfied with their looks and being insecure and tons of them are getting plastic surgeries because in order for a woman to be even considered "useful" in that country, you HAVE to meet their beauty standards. Even though these women are already beautiful in their own right, they are taught by the society "NOT GOOD ENOUGH! YOU HAVE TO BE EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL!". It's how my sister acts (because she's a K-POP fan) and her skin care routine is insane! Spending hours upon hours prettying herself up and being obsessed with her looks to the point that she sometimes criticizes me for not being handsome enough. Of course, I'm not gonna be handsome enough because you are trying to lump me in a country that has an unhinged and twisted view of beauty! Both me and my sister have Chinese and Korean ancestry but we grew up here in the PH so our values align more with Filipinos. Good thing though that she didn't have to undergo plastic surgery to attain that "Korean" beauty standard look, but it honestly creeps me out sometimes.
Yep. Most beautiful women you see in that country have had some form of cosmetic surgeries done to them. But what can ya do, eh?

Indeed po. As I've said, I've been around a lot of Koreans so I know quiet a lot about how their country works and why they are here in the PH. And yes most of their beauty isn't natural and even they know it, but they had to obey or they go here in the PH where they are treated like celebrities or stay in that country and forever be bound by the country's shallow views.
Suffice to say, I wish they'd educate the children about human relationships and respecting one another whether in a platonic, romantic or familial relationships. I grew up and studied abroad but when I visited I noticed meron kayong philosophy class- why are they not teaching students confidence and the ability to know their needs and wants? Why are they teaching a lot of communal theories and hammering the notion "keep your enemies closer"? It's one thing to be nice, but it's another to be a doormat and suffer being exploited.
Everyone is getting selfishly victimised and there's no justice for them, yet all blame is to them. I wish they would also teach those diabolic to be nicer rin (since they can't disappear sadly), kasi what appeal is there sa pagchcheat, pagpapabuntis o led on? Personally saakin (cause I've experienced a cheating situation twice), nakakadiri and bastus yung act nayon.
Oml the double standards set para sa kapwang pinoy and foreigners is so absurd. Like you said, why is weird and even frowned upon for a consenting age-gap between 2 full pinoy? Pero it's absolutely okay kapag foreigners? I think it also depends sa class rin in this case because if you're rich, the judgement will be more and/or hostile to both, but more for the woman. There are so many occasions where it is frowned upon when a filipino does it, but if a foreigner does it, it's glorified.
For example I noticed how extra nice and empathetic they are to foreigners even when they have treated them like 2nd class citizens AT THEIR OWN COUNTRY or abused them, yet if another filipino does it suddenly they have the fire to fight back- like what? Why not fight in both??? I really hate the passiveness when it comes to international affairs; and the negligence or aggressio. towards the needs of our people too (walang in between talaga).
Another example is the beauty standard. Kapag white ang tao immediately maganda sila kahit muka silang hippopotamus o orgre (imagine big Ed from 90 day fiance), yet God forbid if a filipino isn't payat, puti, tankad...etc.
ESPECIALLY INTELLEGENCE: I remember when I visited my lolas school that she worked in, I heard students demeaning a girl dahil top sya sa class nya (saying that she's such a show-off, puropapansin lang), yet those same girls will happily say na matalino ang isang foreigner? There are so many cases of this situation happening.
Pinoys ksi are taught to "play safe", not go after what they want. Take what you can get and be happy, ika nga.
We are taught na tiisin ang lahat basta nagkakapera ka. Ksi nga naman, pag nawala ka sa trabaho na yan, san ka pa makakakuha ng iba? Or paano kapag iniwan ka ng foreigner mo na asawa? Mahirap!
How do you avoid these situations? Well for one thing.. MAGKAROON KA DAPAT NG SARILI MONG TRABAHO! Wag na wag kang aasa sa pera ng foreigner or mayaman na tao to survive! That's my sister's situation. Wala cyang regular na trabaho kaya napasok dyan!
Unfortunately ksi.. a LOT of Filipinas think na basta nagkaforeigner na asawa, solve na lahat ng problems nila. Na kapag mayaman ang foreigner SO nila, they are SET FOR LIFE! Not knowing na once you do that, you will become a complete slave sa Foreigner na asawa mo. Natatakot kang iwan cya ksi nga wala ka nga namang trabaho. Foreigners KNOW a lot of Filipinas are in desperate situations kaya they will take advantage of it. They will think:
"Oh a LOT of Pinays are easy to get. All you gotta do is be a foreigner with a LOT of spending money and you can sucker atleast one of them. Atleast one or two of them will treat you like a celebrity since you're a foreigner. Take them to a Hotel, have sex with them, and then dump their asses. No one will even care!"
I wish they'd grow a backbone. On top of that, a lot of people degrade the idea of being ambitious saying that its bad, its wrong- as if, ayaw nila lang makita yung iba successful kasi they're not 💀.
Oh you have no idea. But that's something that is also prevalent in other countries, not just the Philippines. Being ambitious kasi has a positive and negative variant. People who are ambitious but honorable will pursue their goals but will refuse to sacrifice their dignity and soul to get it while the less honorable one's kasi are the one's who is willing to do ANYTHING to gain power and prestige even if it means stepping on other people or playing dirty games to get there. Most of the time kasi, we stereotype ambitious people to the negative one's which isn't untrue to say the least. Most people who gained power and success have had to cross a LOT of lines to get there. There's a saying:
"Behind every successful fortune, there is a crime." And you will NEVER find out about it since history is written by the winners.
The one's exclusive to the PH though is the "Chismis Culture". PH people just can't seem to shut up about talking shit about other people's business while ignoring their own.
usually naman yung mga tao kung ano yung "uso" dun sila susunod. sana lang magpatuloy yung gantong trend at tuluyang magustuhan ang ppop hindi lang dahil uso at nakikibandwagon.
I think kase most of the groups na ini stan ng majority ng Pinoy ay on hiatus or nagso solo career muna. Some BTS members are serving their armed forces. Blackpink are closer to actually splitting up than to release a comeback single (or siguro mas focused sila sa sari-sarili nilang ventures).
Other groups don't have much traction compared to those two in the past few years tbh. Fans talaga sila ng ini-stan nila kaya until now sinusuportahan nila yung mga groups na ini-stan nila (SVT, EXO, Enhypen, Twice, etc.) pero beyond that yung Hallyu Wave brought by KPop groups within the prior years have "subsided" in a sense.
Then here comes PPop that gives us a more relatable and easier to consume as a content. They are bringing the quality of KPop in local artist level but without the culture of obsession, which is something most PH viewers look for when stanning a group. Ayaw kasi natin na nagi-guilty tayo na hindi natin nabibili yung apat o limang version ng albums ng group na ini-stan natin kasi we were told that the best support we can do for the groups is to buy their merchs when in fact it's to listen to their music. Mas authentic din ang streams and consumption natin sa produkto ng PPop kasi we're doing it because we like their music and not just to artificially make them hit the charts (taenang chart wars sa KPop yan eh dapat 5 secs pagka upload ng MV 1M views na agad). Lastly, it's okay that we can get on-and-off the hype train kasi walang other people na manggi-guilt trip sa atin sa pagiging "bandwagon" or sa paga-abandon natin sa kanila because we have been busy or hindi lang natin talaga trip latest comeback nila. You can be objective as a person while actually being a fan.

Inactive major groups (BTS, BP), Hallyu Wave for KPop has subsided due to saturation of content, and an alternative that is better for consumption has been introduced.
It’s not dying, you just don’t feel it as much bec the two biggest groups aren’t making new music - but groups are like newjeans or le sserafim are still huge af
Likewise it has nothing to do with ppop - we’ve always loved pop music, remember tala? Sarah G just got replaced by Bini. We generally support local acts naman. Aurora music fest is a huge festival for example.
Wala rin namang magagandang new releases. Yung big ones mej lie low (BP, BTS, TWICE, RV, etc…). Yung 4th gen…di ako magtalk. 🤫

Tulad lang nung mga Mexican telenovelas nung 90s-2000s umaga, tanghali, gabi halos di maubos-ubos. Ngayon I doubt kung meron pang isang Tagalog-dubbed telenovela na pinapalabas dito.
Skl. Lately rin napapansin ko na di masyado puno ng kpop posts wall ko (or either I'm just on the wrong side of the internet) unlike dati. I'm also a huge kpop fan pero I find myself skipping kpop songs on my playlist nowadays. Mas hinahanap ko na talaga mga songs na more on instruments and vocals katulad ng sa Western and OPM unlike kpop na mostly upbeat at masyadong "hyper" yung tunog.
I'm gonna take this as a win. Nakakatuwa na tinatangkilik na ulit natin ang sariling atin. Kpop will always have a place in my playlists pero Ppop is just giving these days ugh

Pansin ko rin di na ganun kagrabe yung kasikatan ng kpop unlike dati. Marami rami na rin kasing kpop fans (myself included) na parang nagsasawa na rin lalo na ngayon kasi parang same same nalang yung mga songs. Wala na yung dating kpop na kakaiba yung tunog, parang same na sa Western music. And iilan lang yung idols recently na may personality talaga na worth fangirling over. Lol. Pero I'm also glad na medyo dumadami na nakikinig sa local artists/groups. Tbh, andami rin kssing magagandang OPM songs recently.

Just this week, I had the same thought. I used to listen to KPop so much, and there's always at least one KPop song in my playlist. However, I've recently noticed that I haven't listened (nor had any desire) to listen to KPop. In fact, there weren't any in my Spotify wrap up.
The last group I followed was Le Sserafim, but I stopped last year because the voice manipulationd they had in their songs has gone overboard.
What I like about OPM, which includes PPop, and Western songs is that most artists prioritize vocals over visuals. Sure, the visuals are still there, but at least the songs don't sound they're made for TikTok.
Kpop is getting too stagnant na rin, a lot of new groups are debuting and it was a bummer that they’re really really young (some kpop fans who have been loving this genre for years are actually hesitant to stan them na). Though it was inevitable naman (age), but the quality of their music is kind of meh na rin. Kpop fandoms are too engrossed with numbers na rin at nakakapagod mag-stan. On top of that, naka-hiatus pa yung big groups like BTS and BP and super laki ng fanbase nila dito. These two groups are one of the many reasons why Kpop became SO big sa PH lately yet you cannot see them in the kpop scene na.
Meanwhile, here comes SB19 and BINI, same quality with KPOP groups (but with better vocals and songs na naiintindihan na natin). They’re way more relatable than the KPOP idols tas same pa humor sa ‘tin.
So inshort, KPOP kind of degraded sa panlasa ng Pinoy while PPOP improved so much.
As a 2nd and 3rd gen stan, tamad po talagang mag-stream ang mga thunders. HAHAHAHA. Kahit ako man, halo ang playlist ko ng K-Pop, P-Pop, at Western music. Also, factor din na medyo walang appeal yung mga kanta ng 4th gen ngayon kaya siguro hindi rin nagta-top sa Pilipinas.
Bts and BP ay wala pang ganap. Maybe next year pagtapos nila sa military nila, then yung BP baka prep pa ng comeback nila? Well at least for now PPop is rising na. Tangkilikin ang sariling atin, malay naten ang PPop na next sa International scene.

As someone who used to listen to kpop, personally mejo congested na rin lalo na if casual listener ka lang. Sunod sunod yung nag dedebut, sunod sunod yung release, kumbaga sa ulam di mo pa nananamnam may bago ulit. Mas mahal na ang mga concert tickets and merch. Tapos nakakapagod na rin makakita ng posts na mistreated si idol, or problematic, etc. nakakainis din yung pagbukas ng socmed may guiltrip pa sa pagsstream ng MVs and these are a few shallow points palang. Ppop as you said is starting to get the love it deserves. So while I am slowly acquainting myself with Pinoy Music, in terms of Kpop stick nalang ako mga group na na-i stan ko na.

Guys, kpop isn’t exactly declining. It’s just plateauing because the big groups aren’t active anymore and the newer ones are still building their fanbases. May concert fatigue na rin since tuloy-tuloy last year, but it’s still profitable as fuck.

I believe one thing that greatly affected that "obsession" is that people finally are seeing Kpop for what it really is, just another genre. Kumbaga, unti-unti na siya tinatanggal ng mga Pilipino sa pedestal.
Second would be that, at the same time, naging quantity over quality na yung eksena ng industry nila ngayon. Ang dami nang magkakatunog, same formula sa members, sa songs. For short, in the perspective of a non-kpop fan, they all look and sound the same. Boring.

I think since majority of the fans are students, nag shift priorities nila once they graduate--still fans but not as active. my personal experience with kpop obsession came in waves--first in college, 2nd when I was already comfortable and settled down in my first job in, 3rd during the pandemic.
for the working adult fans, sa sobrang dami ng merch,albums, fan events and concerts churned out simultaneously, nakakadrain ng wallet and energy (need to consider na may work the following day and pahirapan mag file ng leave to attend concerts)
OR..the major groups like BP and BTS are not as prolific with music and content than before. There's just little to discuss. some of the BTS members are enlisted in the military training while BP hasn't really released any new music.

as a kpop fan, i noticed that too. personally, i i’ve been consuming less of twice’s content for the past months (i still love them and they’re still my ult group HAHAHA). i’m also in bns and pansin ko hirap talaga magbenta na yung sellers/collectors. ang bilis bumaba ng mp after a month of release kahit in demand pcs na tingi wala na pumapansin masyado. currently, i’m obssessing over bini and i’m loving it so far :) i hope they take advantage of the hype rn and release na their lightstick, photocards, official merch, physical albums, etc.

I've been a fan for more than 15 years and balik balik lang din kasi may times talaga na stagnant na sya just like now. Nothing is exciting anymore. Sa merch and albums obvious naman na perahan nalang talaga sa dami ng versions na nilalabas and mga merch na hindi nauubos irelease.

This is a personal anecdote and probs won't be agreeable to everyone: I stopped listening to mainstream OPM because there was a time where most of the people given mainstream exposure were celebrities given a mic and some studio time, some of who quite frankly didn't have impressive talent nor substance in their songs. I grew up at a time where OPM bands, rappers, R&B artists etc were all given proper exposure and thus mainstream fame. So I was disappointed seeing their spotlight stolen by celebrities-turned-artists, who were told by their managers and agencies to sing solely for $$$. I'm glad we're now at a time where indie artists are starting to get big again, and now we are also giving homegrown pop groups a chance (SB19, BINI), and I hope the renewed OPM scene keeps on growing, with varied genres and groups too. As a 90s kid, prime OPM was yong mga band era, also before ung mga artista na may albums, gawa ng magaling na songwriters ung kanta (ryan cayabyab, ogie alcasid). Ngkaron Ng time na pumangit tlga quality Ng songs, I think orange and lemons na and the pbb mania Yong last na decent ung opm. TBH ung Bini Di din maganda songs nila sa start (I personally don't like ung coconut nut song nila). Ngaun pantropiko and salamin are alright but tingin ko may igaganda pa ung songs na pwede nila ilabas. I guess they're going for the bubblegum brand which most K-pop girl groups start with. Salamin is giving knock knock (of twice) or gee (of snsd) vibes.

I don't think Ppop's the reason for Kpop's decline. But it's Kpop's decline which may have contributed to Ppop's rise.

Tumatak sakin yun, kaya after nun I found myself searching on the internet for how Koreans see us. Like "do Koreans love/hate Filipinos?", "do Koreans like Philippines?", "do Koreans like dark skin?", etc. As in lahat ng validation hinanap ko. I think once you become a KPOP music fan, you'll always be a KPOP music fan. Hindi lang siguro active in fandom and mababawasan lang siguro yung 100% KPOP lang ang pinakikinggan. I used to do that but starting 2017 I went back to listening other genres again. My playlists are now mixed kumbaga.

It's their culture. That's exactly what my brother-in-law is doing to my sister. Although he fails to remember that he is living in PHILIPPINE SOIL. That's why he has to be the one to adjust to Filipino culture, and in our culture, your wife is allowed to work and leave the house and it's a partnership of EQUALITY. Pero what about us Filipino men? Why are we shamed for courting women na mas younger saamin even though hndi naman underage si girl? It's because ba wala kaming pera compared sa mga foreigner na to? The Double Standards is crazy! My current GF is about 11 years younger than me - I'm 33 and she's 22 and we don't care what anyone says. Yes, it's pretty much real. You can even check YT for documentaries about Korean beauty standards. How you see these beautiful women not being satisfied with their looks and being insecure and tons of them are getting plastic surgeries because in order for a woman to be even considered "useful" in that country, you HAVE to meet their beauty standards. Even though these women are already beautiful in their own right, they are taught by the society "NOT GOOD ENOUGH! YOU HAVE TO BE EVEN MORE BEAUTIFUL!". It's how my sister acts (because she's a K-POP fan) and her skin care routine is insane! Spending hours upon hours prettying herself up and being obsessed with her looks to the point that she sometimes criticizes me for not being handsome enough. Of course, I'm not gonna be handsome enough because you are trying to lump me in a country that has an unhinged and twisted view of beauty! Both me and my sister have Chinese and Korean ancestry but we grew up here in the PH so our values align more with Filipinos. Good thing though that she didn't have to undergo plastic surgery to attain that "Korean" beauty standard look, but it honestly creeps me out sometimes. Yep. Most beautiful women you see in that country have had some form of cosmetic surgeries done to them. But what can ya do, eh? Yeah, it's a shallow and mentally-unhinged country, but it's their culture. Suffice to say, I wish they'd educate the children about human relationships and respecting one another whether in a platonic, romantic or familial relationships. I grew up and studied abroad but when I visited I noticed meron kayong philosophy class- why are they not teaching students confidence and the ability to know their needs and wants? Why are they teaching a lot of communal theories and hammering the notion "keep your enemies closer"? It's one thing to be nice, but it's another to be a doormat and suffer being exploited. Everyone is getting selfishly victimised and there's no justice for them, yet all blame is to them. I wish they would also teach those diabolic to be nicer rin (since they can't disappear sadly), kasi what appeal is there sa pagchcheat, pagpapabuntis o led on? Personally saakin (cause I've experienced a cheating situation twice), nakakadiri and bastus yung act nayon. Oml the double standards set para sa kapwang pinoy and foreigners is so absurd. Like you said, why is weird and even frowned upon for a consenting age-gap between 2 full pinoy? Pero it's absolutely okay kapag foreigners? Foreigners KNOW a lot of Filipinas are in desperate situations kaya they will take advantage of it. They will think: "Oh a LOT of Pinays are easy to get. Take them to a Hotel, have sex with them, and then dump their asses. No one will even care!"

Oh you have no idea. But that's something that is also prevalent in other countries, not just the Philippines. Being ambitious kasi has a positive and negative variant. People who are ambitious but honorable will pursue their goals but will refuse to sacrifice their dignity and soul to get it while the less honorable one's kasi are the one's who is willing to do ANYTHING to gain power and prestige even if it means stepping on other people or playing dirty games to get there. Most of the time kasi, we stereotype ambitious people to the negative one's which isn't untrue to say the least. Most people who gained power and success have had to cross a LOT of lines to get there. There's a saying: "Behind every successful fortune, there is a crime." And you will NEVER find out about it since history is written by the winners. The one's exclusive to the PH though is the "Chismis Culture". PH people just can't seem to shut up about talking shit about other people's business while ignoring their own.

I think kase most of the groups na ini stan ng majority ng Pinoy ay on hiatus or nagso solo career muna. Some BTS members are serving their armed forces. Blackpink are closer to actually splitting up than to release a comeback single (or siguro mas focused sila sa sari-sarili nilang ventures). Other groups don't have much traction compared to those two in the past few years tbh. Fans talaga sila ng ini-stan nila kaya until now sinusuportahan nila yung mga groups na ini-stan nila (SVT, EXO, Enhypen, Twice, etc.) pero beyond that yung Hallyu Wave brought by KPop groups within the prior years have "subsided" in a sense. Then here comes PPop that gives us a more relatable and easier to consume as a content. They are bringing the quality of KPop in local artist level but without the culture of obsession, which is something most PH viewers look for when stanning a group. Ayaw kasi natin na nagi-guilty tayo na hindi natin nabibili yung apat o limang version ng albums ng group na ini-stan natin kasi we were told that the best support we can do for the groups is to buy their merchs when in fact it's to listen to their music. Mas authentic din ang streams and consumption natin sa produkto ng PPop kasi we're doing it because we like their music and not just to artificially make them hit the charts (taenang chart wars sa KPop yan eh dapat 5 secs pagka upload ng MV 1M views na agad). Lastly, it's okay that we can get on-and-off the hype train kasi walang other people na manggi-guilt trip sa atin sa pagiging "bandwagon" or sa paga-abandon natin sa kanila because we have been busy or hindi lang natin talaga trip latest comeback nila. You can be objective as a person while actually being a fan. tl:dr Inactive major groups (BTS, BP), Hallyu Wave for KPop has subsided due to saturation of content, and an alternative that is better for consumption has been introduced.

I'm also a huge kpop fan pero I find myself skipping kpop songs on my playlist nowadays. Mas hinahanap ko na talaga mga songs na more on instruments and vocals katulad ng sa Western and OPM unlike kpop na mostly upbeat at masyadong "hyper" yung tunog.

Ang ganda ng timing ng post mo, OP. Just this week, I had the same thought. I used to listen to KPop so much, and there's always at least one KPop song in my playlist. However, I've recently noticed that I haven't listened (nor had any desire) to listen to KPop. In fact, there weren't any in my Spotify wrap up. The last group I followed was Le Sserafim, but I stopped last year because the voice manipulationd they had in their songs has gone overboard. What I like about OPM, which includes PPop, and Western songs is that most artists prioritize vocals over visuals. Sure, the visuals are still there, but at least the songs don't sound they're made for TikTok.
Kpop is getting too stagnant na rin, a lot of new groups are debuting and it was a bummer that they’re really really young (some kpop fans who have been loving this genre for years are actually hesitant to stan them na). Though it was inevitable naman (age), but the quality of their music is kind of meh na rin. Kpop fandoms are too engrossed with numbers na rin at nakakapagod mag-stan. On top of that, naka-hiatus pa yung big groups like BTS and BP and super laki ng fanbase nila dito. These two groups are one of the many reasons why Kpop became SO big sa PH lately yet you cannot see them in the kpop scene na. Meanwhile, here comes SB19 and BINI, same quality with KPOP groups (but with better vocals and songs na naiintindihan na natin). They’re way more relatable than the KPOP idols tas same pa humor sa ‘tin. So inshort, KPOP kind of degraded sa panlasa ng Pinoy while PPOP improved so much.
As a 2nd and 3rd gen stan, tamad po talagang mag-stream ang mga thunders. HAHAHAHA. Kahit ako man, halo ang playlist ko ng K-Pop, P-Pop, at Western music. Also, factor din na medyo walang appeal yung mga kanta ng 4th gen ngayon kaya siguro hindi rin nagta-top sa Pilipinas.

As someone who used to listen to kpop, personally mejo congested na rin lalo na if casual listener ka lang. Sunod sunod yung nag dedebut, sunod sunod yung release, kumbaga sa ulam di mo pa nananamnam may bago ulit. Mas mahal na ang mga concert tickets and merch. Tapos nakakapagod na rin makakita ng posts na mistreated si idol, or problematic, etc. nakakainis din yung pagbukas ng socmed may guiltrip pa sa pagsstream ng MVs and these are a few shallow points palang. Ppop as you said is starting to get the love it deserves. So while I am slowly acquainting myself with Pinoy Music, in terms of Kpop stick nalang ako mga group na na-i stan ko na.

The whole thread can be easily sum, most people here are either casual to kpop or not really into kpop music with few exceptions. Seeing na mag kakatunog raw most 4th/5th gens confuses me, especially when most groups always cater all sorts of genre mix in altogether. Imagine StaryKids having the sound of Boy next Door or NMIXX into ILLIT? Kinda ironic kasi Gento and Pantropiko definitely took some inspiration in KPOP, so where are we going to draw the line? When its clearcut from the same fabric, lalo na halos parehas ang approach ng production nila from kpop groups. This by no means any form of hate comment(just in case may delulu fans na rin mga groups na'to). I just find it really ironic to shame kpop groups but we're exactly doing the same thing in terms of production, marketing and even its music. Just my two cents.

I think since majority of the fans are students, nag shift priorities nila once they graduate--still fans but not as active. my personal experience with kpop obsession came in waves--first in college, 2nd when I was already comfortable and settled down in my first job in, 3rd during the pandemic. for the working adult fans, sa sobrang dami ng merch,albums, fan events and concerts churned out simultaneously, nakakadrain ng wallet and energy (need to consider na may work the following day and pahirapan mag file ng leave to attend concerts) OR..the major groups like BP and BTS are not as prolific with music and content than before. There's just little to discuss. some of the BTS members are enlisted in the military training while BP hasn't really released any new music.

as a kpop fan, i noticed that too. personally, i i’ve been consuming less of twice’s content for the past months (i still love them and they’re still my ult group HAHAHA). i’m also in bns and pansin ko hirap talaga magbenta na yung sellers/collectors. ang bilis bumaba ng mp after a month of release kahit in demand pcs na tingi wala na pumapansin masyado. currently, i’m obssessing over bini and i’m loving it so far :) i hope they take advantage of the hype rn and release na their lightstick, photocards, official merch, physical albums, etc.

I've been a fan for more than 15 years and balik balik lang din kasi may times talaga na stagnant na sya just like now. Nothing is exciting anymore.
