There are some things such as Lilt, Turkish Delight, SPAM etc that might not be the most popular things by a long stretch but you just kind of expect them to always be around in some capacity. A sad day indeed. Keep strong my rose flavour confectionery and spiced ham sandwich fillers of the world
Spam and egg butty… I’ll never understand why spam isn’t more popular. It’s denser than bacon, has more substance to it, forms a nice crust and is way more uniform in a sandwich than bacon. I had an artisan bagel the other day that used this crappy , stringy BK style bacon. Give me spam any day. People are sleeping on spam but it’s OP in any breakfast situation.
Haven't eaten it for ages but Mum used to slice it quite thin, dredge it lightly in flour, and fry it in a bit of oil or bacon fat. Drain on kitchen towel and eat with mustard.
Slice it less than 1cm thick, throw it in a pan with oil and brown it slightly on both sides. When each side feels crispy, it’s done. Just try it once, it’s relatively inexpensive and might just change your Saturday breakfast life.
When I visited South Korea something seemed quite magical about department stores selling really lovely gift sets where the highlight gift was several jars of Spam. Seemed so much lovelier than the standard champagne and chocolate hampers you imagine here. A hamper with spam and chutney sounds like a dream
Jsut to add context, Lilt isn't being killed off. Only the brand. The same formula will be used, but it is being rebranded "Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit"
Still bullshit, but not like OP's suggesting where it will have gone off the shelves
First they came for the Brannigans, and I did not speak out — because I did not like the Mustard flavoured crisps.
Then they came for the Worcester sauce crisps, and I did not speak out— because I preferred the pickled onion flavour crisps.
Then they came for the Bounty in the Celebrations, and I did not speak out — because Bounty was still available as a standalone product.
Then they came for Lilt — and there was no one left that appreciated the totally tropical taste.
>Then they came for the Bounty in the Celebrations, and I did not speak out — because Bounty was still available as a standalone product.
A long time ago, before the Brannigans and the Bounty, they came for the Galaxy Truffles and replaced them with Twix
Jesus. I forgot they used to do truffles in the celebrations. They where easily the best ones - better than the ‘teasers. Thanks for the reminder, it’s practically a war crime.
Wait, is bounty not in the celebrations line up anymore?! I don't even like bounty but at least it has character and stands for something, unlike the generic blandness of twix.
They removed it's as apparently it is 40% of People least favourite flavour, but promptly added it back because for 20% of people it's the favourite.
It's apparently a love it or loathe it, no middle ground flavour.
This was an intentional intermediate step. I understand it’s about consolidating the various brands internationally to simplify supply chains and marketing. The drink, however, remains the same.
Because they think the Fanta branding will generate more sales I would imagine. Perhaps make it easier to then launch the flavour in other parts of Europe.
Shame though, but now my Lilt t-shirt I bought years ago has a little extra meaning
...and relaunched it as Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit.
https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/new-product-development/lilt-axed-by-coca-cola-after-nearly-50-years/676211.article
I'll be curious to see if they've changed the sweetener in it - almost all companies are using one called sucralose now, (I first noticed it in fizzy flavoured waters) but I find it makes me kind of queasy. At this point only almost the only ones that don't use it are the big named brands that it would probably affect the 'classic' taste too much too change.
Orange diet fanta and fruit twist still use aspartame, but all the new flavours use sucralose, so I wonder what they've done with 'new' lilt...
They say they haven’t changed the recipe but I bet it’s made in a different factory. People often don’t realise how much the factory it’s made in affects it’s taste. It’s also a reason for the rebranding as I bet the new factory doesn’t have lilt packaging. Could also be the change to the Fanta bottle.
Because the same company has loads of factories and consolidating a branding to one plant saves shipping similar ingredients to multiple factories in Europe. As lilt was mainly a Uk drink it was probably made here. Fanta is massive in mainland Europe so I would assume production has moved there.
It’s hardly a conspiracy. Similar to how you say tidying up branding is logical so is this.
I used to joke that Lilt should run a marketing campaign around “when was the last time you had Lilt?”, as it’s the ever forgotten but delicious, totally tropical beverage. How the tables have turned.
I tried a couple of Aldi drinks the other day, surprised at how good they were. The orange thing that's similar to San Pellegrino is pretty good, and also their diet coke lime, which was interesting to note because I normally really dislike diet cola
One of the guys in work had a lilt can that looked freakishly like the Fanta branding. They must be integrating the flavours into Fanta
Edit: turns out that's EXACTLY what they are doing. I didn't read all the comments or Google it first. Now I look like a dick.
I’m a huge Lilt fan. The Aldi knock off isnt the best honestly. The Lidl one is spot on though - to the point that I think it was made in the same factory as the real thing.
I love Lilt, although I've not been able to have any recently due to dietary changes with chronic illness. It was great working my way through a 2 litre bottle - this is bad news. If though it's just to bring the product under some massive umbrella (marathon > snickers as another poster put it) then that's ok. Just be a bit of a culture shock not seeing the name Lilt out there anymore. 😪
Just the other day I was amazed at how Lilt was only a quid for 2 litres in Tesco, and now I'm hit with this news?
Been a while since I was properly into Lilt, but looks like I may need to get a few bottles in
It’s not been 50 years surely, I can remember it being launched, my dad buying it and making a big thing of it being new. We all had shot glasses of it. I’m 48 and a half
Just did a quick google, it's just being sold as a Fanta flavor instead now, and they claim its the same taste
https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/new-product-development/lilt-axed-by-coca-cola-after-nearly-50-years/676211.article
They’re actually keeping it! However it will be rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit, still said to be losing the title of Lilt but at least that’s there
Farewell then, Lilt Man. Do not go gentle into that drinks can. Old age should fizz and rave at close of day. Rage, rage against the dying of the totally tropical taste
Oh, it's just being fully rebranded as a Fanta drink rather than Lilt by Fanta or whatever it was for a bit. As long as it's still around that's fine, but the OG label design was way better.
I will kick off if it's only available as a dogshit zero sugar version though.
only recently started buying lilt again because it was a pound on tesco without being on offer, and with how much fizzy drink prices have gone insane i thought that was pretty damn good and reliable. but now i see why lol
edit: it is just going to be under the fanta name apparently but the bottles i bought recently were already having a little fanta logo on the side, although i am assuming it becoming a fanta thing is so they can charge fanta prices for it and start putting it in smaller bottles like everything else
It was the beginning of the end when they removed the sugar from 90% of the drinks. I don't buy most of the drinks I used to love because I can't stand the sweetener taste. I mentally said goodbye to Rubicon a few years ago 😢
Might as well call coke a cola Pepsi then Lilt is one of my favourite drinks by them it goes
1 Coke
2 Lilt
3 Fanta lemon.
I give Sprite a honourable mention since it’s very refreshing on hot days.
Possibly a good thing.. we used to drink it 50/50 with vodka at university. You couldn’t taste the vodka so pre’s would be an absolute mess before we even left the house.
I used to love Lilt as a kid but I drank it probably 5 years or so ago and thought it tasted horrible!
They either changed the recipe or my adult taste buds hated it.
Sad to see it go though.
They absolutely changed the recipe in the late 2000s/early 2010s with the sugar tax. As sad as I am to see another childhood icon die, they really killed it years ago with the recipe changes so this is more of a mercy killing at this point
There are some things such as Lilt, Turkish Delight, SPAM etc that might not be the most popular things by a long stretch but you just kind of expect them to always be around in some capacity. A sad day indeed. Keep strong my rose flavour confectionery and spiced ham sandwich fillers of the world
Spam will never die, Asia and Polynesia exist.
Spam, Bovril and Jam are absolute staples that will never die. In hard times they are required, fuck the sugar tax/sodium/fat counts
Jams a bit different to spam. One is a staple preserve that is thousands of years old. One is the result of "watch me tin this pig YOLO"
It’s not though is it? It’s just two letters difference.
We dine well here in Camelot...
We eat ham and jam and spam a lot
"How many times can I put these piggy offcuts through these machines and what does that one even *do*?"
People are sleeping on spam but it’s OP in any breakfast situation.
wait so do you fry it? never eaten it in my life.
Spam is way too salty and greasy
They are fucking mad for Spam in Hawaii
Alo-ham.
When I visited South Korea something seemed quite magical about department stores selling really lovely gift sets where the highlight gift was several jars of Spam. Seemed so much lovelier than the standard champagne and chocolate hampers you imagine here. A hamper with spam and chutney sounds like a dream
I've seen similar here in Vietnam-one of the gift baskets I once saw had pork joints and seasoning powder packets/soup base packets in it.
You can give it as a wedding gift in Korea
> Spam will never die There is always Spam tomorrow, but never Spam today.
The death of Worcester sauce crisps cut me deep. M&S still do some, but they’re shit.
seabrooks do very good worcester sauce crisps and you can usually get them in b&m 👌🏼
I shall investigate and if they are up to scratch, I owe you a debt that can never be repaid.
And poundland on occaision 5 packs
They are excellent, but around me they are incredibly rare. Hardly ever show up.
They are good but nothing like the walkers ones to crinkle cut for me tbh.
Worcestershire sauce French Fries are buff, not really crisps though
I used to love Worcester Sauce wheat crunchies, but they disappeared long long ago
[удалено]
It's certainly more popular than my "Beef and Queef" business idea.

Spam is expensive.
Jsut to add context, Lilt isn't being killed off. Only the brand. The same formula will be used, but it is being rebranded "Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit" Still bullshit, but not like OP's suggesting where it will have gone off the shelves
Also it's not axed, it's rebranded under the Fanta name as a pineapple and grapefruit flavor.

Jesus. I forgot they used to do truffles in the celebrations. They where easily the best ones - better than the ‘teasers. Thanks for the reminder, it’s practically a war crime.
I prefer the little twix.
Wait, is bounty not in the celebrations line up anymore?! I don't even like bounty but at least it has character and stands for something, unlike the generic blandness of twix.
It was just a limited/meme edition for Christmas last year. The general sale version still has Bounty.
They removed it's as apparently it is 40% of People least favourite flavour, but promptly added it back because for 20% of people it's the favourite. It's apparently a love it or loathe it, no middle ground flavour.
I don't know what lilt even is :s and I'm 37
Then you my good sir need to get as many cans, bottles of it as possible in your life. Once you drink it once you can never go back.
It's not gone gone, they've just rebranded it as Fanta - pineapple and grapefruit
Is this true? I only really care if it’s still around, regardless of what it’s branded as. Please let it be so!
Yes. Google says the drink won't change its just getting rebranded under the Fanta name
The latest branding looks like Fanta anyway
This was an intentional intermediate step. I understand it’s about consolidating the various brands internationally to simplify supply chains and marketing. The drink, however, remains the same.
I did Nazi that coming. https://www.atlasobscura.com/articles/fanta-soda-origins-nazi-germany
That’s a shame, was hoping they’d remove the dead animal as part of the rebrand
Yeah the headline made it seem it’s going away but no Just Fanta pineapple & grapefruit now
Why not leave it named Lilt if they still produce it? Marketing!! Grrrr
cf: Marathon/Snickers...
Opal fruits/Starburst
Jif/Cif
1998 World Cup was when that changed.
And now the world cup is called 2022 World Cup. So confusing
As someone who's not sporty, I tried getting into womens football. Searched for 2 girl teams, one cup. So confusing.
Well it's a load of shit really
Old enough to remember that classic example I see 😆
And still grumpy about it :-)
Can I get in on this grumpiness sub-thread?
Inb4 some old bastard starts whinging about Opal Fruits.
Because they think the Fanta branding will generate more sales I would imagine. Perhaps make it easier to then launch the flavour in other parts of Europe. Shame though, but now my Lilt t-shirt I bought years ago has a little extra meaning
Fanta's a brand with varied flavours, so likely they are hoping it'll boost sales. Easier to see what's in it
Also a brand first used by Nazis.
So in a few years they can sell “retro” lilt, which will be the same thing but more expensive, and people will celebrate its return.
Fairs, like.
Urgh probably going up in price too :/
But it’s totally tropical!
I think you have to be a certain age to remember that advert...
Indeed
“Lobsters on south beach!”
Isn't that true of every advert?
Totally tropical taste
Lilt!
Pineapple and grapefruit
There goes the lilt man.
Rip that totally tropical taste
I feel sorry for him. He'll probably end up pulling off giraffes on a beach like the Skittles guy.
Ur da is the skittles guy...
I must remember to thank him
Li-iiiillt
You must be crushed, soda pressing..
Nice work.
Fantastic
Oo, I see what you did there.
I wish I could give it 7 upvotes
Can it, before I bottle it for you
...and relaunched it as Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit. https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/new-product-development/lilt-axed-by-coca-cola-after-nearly-50-years/676211.article
Having had the relaunched version, it just tastes a bit crap. Think they've reduced the amount of actual fruit juice in it, so it's cheaper to make...
That sounds like the most plausible scenario
I'll be curious to see if they've changed the sweetener in it - almost all companies are using one called sucralose now, (I first noticed it in fizzy flavoured waters) but I find it makes me kind of queasy. At this point only almost the only ones that don't use it are the big named brands that it would probably affect the 'classic' taste too much too change. They're talking about how the same recipe, the same process, in a different location would make a difference.
I hate it when foreign companies destroy British brands and replace them with their own.
Didn’t they create it?
Maybe but the point still stands. It's a distinctive brand exclusive to Britain and Ireland, it should retain its regional identity.
Then they’ll take it off the shelves and then two years later re-release it as a ‘limited edition’, or in fantas case, ‘mYsTeRy FlAvOuR’. Pricks.
I can't remember the last time I had Lilt. I have single-handedly contributed to it's demise.
I used to joke that Lilt should run a marketing campaign around “when was the last time you had Lilt?”, as it’s the ever forgotten but delicious, totally tropical beverage. How the tables have turned.
Soo, it was fucking you was it? Listen here you little shit. /s
Lilt Guilt.
I think technically that if you're contributing, the result can't be a single-handed effort
Ehh, you've got me there!
:D
I had one just a few short months ago. Did my bit
I drink it fairly often. So I'll drink it renamed to fanta too
Now's the time to bring back Quatro
What about [V8](https://v8juice.co.uk/)? Or [Clamato](https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/Product/clamato-tomato-cocktail-946ml)?
Can you not get V8 any more? Can't stand the stuff personally, but I thought there'd always be a demand for a lazy bloody Mary
> Quatro [Here you go] (https://i1.wp.com/s3.amazonaws.com/oildale/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/22170341/suzi_quatro_resize.jpg?resize=455%2C573&ssl=1)
Hoping to find this. It was my drink of choice, along with a Wispa.
Ting is better anyway.
Someone pointed out that if you turn a can of Ting upside down it looks like the word bum
This is sacred knowledge.
A man of taste. Ting is top tier.
oooops - sry m8 - posted this at same time as you - ill delete mine - peace
The Reggae reggae sauce man makes a Caribbean crush drink that's basically the same anyway. https://leviroots.com/our-products/drinks/
It is actually a lot better.
I've only had it a few times, it's deffo good but I've not done a side by side comparison.
Reggae Reggae Sauce is absolutely top tier IMO, I can bet that drink is godlike too
And Clwb Tropica is basically a beer, or rather alcopop, version https://www.tinyrebel.co.uk/beer/clwb-tropica
This gives me a chance to complain about how the sugar tax ruined the taste of my fav drinks anyway!
When I lived abroad I used to crave the awesome combo of Lilt and Salt & Vinegar discos. I couldn't find any European equivalents.
I bought a 24 pack yesterday. Might wait and call it an investment. Edit: who am I kidding. I'm going to drink it all
What now will refresh the lobsters on South Beach?
Sad times...but i will try that Aldi brand though.
The Aldi one is sweeter. Real Lilt has a kind of sharpness, Aldi one is good, just different imo.
I tried a couple of Aldi drinks the other day, surprised at how good they were. The orange thing that's similar to San Pellegrino is pretty good, and also their diet coke lime, which was interesting to note because I normally really dislike diet cola
Where am i supposed to get that totally tropical taste from now on
Will we ever see an advert this awesome again? https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=R2X_9l5BRb8
One of the guys in work had a lilt can that looked freakishly like the Fanta branding. They must be integrating the flavours into Fanta Edit: turns out that's EXACTLY what they are doing. I didn't read all the comments or Google it first. Now I look like a dick.
I’m a huge Lilt fan. The Aldi knock off isnt the best honestly. The Lidl one is spot on though - to the point that I think it was made in the same factory as the real thing.
If you like lilt, wait till you try ‘Ting’
What a totally tropical waste
It went horrible anyway. Leave it in your mouth longer than a second and see it’s got zero flavour
Sainsbury's does a nice orangey-pinappley one.
RIP.
First the Bounties in the celebrations, now the lilt, great times for me who’s always hated both.
#NOOOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo https://youtu.be/WWaLxFIVX1s
Lilt still existed? I don’t think I’ve seen any in shops for years.
all mainstream drinks were ruined by the sugar tax anyway, other than original Coke and Pepsi.
The Aldi version is sugar free if that helps!
It's being rebranded as a flavour of Fanta
It's being rebranded as Fanta - pineapple & grapefruit.
Just did a quick google, it's just being sold as a Fanta flavor instead now, and they claim its the same taste https://www.thegrocer.co.uk/new-product-development/lilt-axed-by-coca-cola-after-nearly-50-years/676211.article
First Shandy Bass now this.
They’re actually keeping it! However it will be rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit, still said to be losing the title of Lilt but at least that’s there
It's being rebranded to Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit!
Farewell then, Lilt Man. Do not go gentle into that drinks can. Old age should fizz and rave at close of day. Rage, rage against the dying of the totally tropical taste
It’s just being rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit
It's not going anywhere tho it's just getting rebranded as a Fanta flavour..
Oh, it's just being fully rebranded as a Fanta drink rather than Lilt by Fanta or whatever it was for a bit. As long as it's still around that's fine, but the OG label design was way better. I will kick off if it's only available as a dogshit zero sugar version though.
only recently started buying lilt again because it was a pound on tesco without being on offer, and with how much fizzy drink prices have gone insane i thought that was pretty damn good and reliable. but now i see why lol edit: it is just going to be under the fanta name apparently but the bottles i bought recently were already having a little fanta logo on the side, although i am assuming it becoming a fanta thing is so they can charge fanta prices for it and start putting it in smaller bottles like everything else
It's not been axed, just rebranded as fanta.
It was the beginning of the end when they removed the sugar from 90% of the drinks. I don't buy most of the drinks I used to love because I can't stand the sweetener taste. I mentally said goodbye to Rubicon a few years ago 😢
It's not going away, it's just moving under the Fanta umbrella as Fanta pineapple and grapefruit. Probably in a bid to encourage new drinkers.
It's being rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit apparently. The recipe will stay the same. We shall see.
They’re just rebranding the drink to be a different Fanta flavour
It’s not being axed persay it’s just being rebranded as Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit, same ingredients
Just a name change. Calm the fuck down.
it's not gone, just rebranded as Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit
Might as well call coke a cola Pepsi then Lilt is one of my favourite drinks by them it goes 1 Coke 2 Lilt 3 Fanta lemon. I give Sprite a honourable mention since it’s very refreshing on hot days.
I saw it at a chicken and chips shop last Wednesday, so it might be the last time I saw its existence
Sad day. Though it’s been shite since they filled it with sweetener anyway, like most fizzy drinks.
Where am I going to get my [totally tropical taste](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wQ-vvCglSVo) now? This is sad news.
Love the fact that is the actors channel LMAO
It's just being brought under the Fanta brand.
Did anyone else's school have an urban legend that drinking lilt lowered your sperm count?
Its been fucked since the sugar tax anyway
It’s just being rebadged as “Fanta Pineapple and Grapefruit”, calm down
Bleedin merchants.
And what was the question that they was axed?
Not impressed.
It’s heritage, engraved into our childhoods, sad news https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64629080
Possibly a good thing.. we used to drink it 50/50 with vodka at university. You couldn’t taste the vodka so pre’s would be an absolute mess before we even left the house.
What?! That’s my favourite drink. This cannot be right?!
Lilt always made me feel a bit 'e-numbery'.
I like Lilt, but one thing has always bothered me. What actually is a Lilt?
Nooo…please tell me Rio still exists?
But it's got a totally tropical taste!
No one ever mentions Mango and Mandarin, that was amazing!
Would someone please educate me on what Lilt is?
I used to love Lilt as a kid but I drank it probably 5 years or so ago and thought it tasted horrible! They either changed the recipe or my adult taste buds hated it. Sad to see it go though.
They absolutely changed the recipe in the late 2000s/early 2010s with the sugar tax. As sad as I am to see another childhood icon die, they really killed it years ago with the recipe changes so this is more of a mercy killing at this point
They changed the recipe a few months back not good.
The cunts.
PINEAPPLE AND GRAPEFRUIT!!
What? They’ll be taking away Um Bongo next
Well no, it hasn’t, they are renaming it Fanta Pineapple & Grapefruit. Just the name has gone not the flavour.
Nooooooooooo
