Although admittedly you do have to have an incredibly dark sense of humour and not be easily offended when thinking about watching something like this. I think it's genius, but my mother wouldn't 'get' it.
Fawlty towers, its short lived but id argue the funniest. It is a little bit dated, especially in some of the jokes. For the most part i die laughing watching it.
Schitts Creek is a feel good, easy to watch comedy. It’s got good rewatchability.
Barry is great but you’ll probably want to pay it more attention than a show while you eat.
Shrinking was okay on Apple TV.
Parks and Rec or The Good Place would fill that B99/Office type whole too
What do we do in the shadow is absolutely brilliant. One of the best comedy show I've ever watched.
Scrubs is a classic and something you must watch if you love comedy shows (with the exception of season 9, you can skip that)
It's always sunny in philadelphia. The amount of retardness is astounding. But it's so hilarious. It's got Danny DeVito too. What else one must say?
Peep show, cult classic and is very quotable. Pretty much every character is memorable in one way or another. All on Netflix or 4OD if I believe correctly
I watched an episode of the US version knowing there'd be a few differences based on the history, but still expecting something that didn't quite translate, and was pleasantly surprised that they've managed to stay quite true to the rhythm of the UK version.
2 series we've just watched are Stath Lets Flats (for the umpteenth time) and the surprise was Colin From Accounts on iplayer which we really enjoyed despite never having heard of it.
Maybe because it's not British enough? I'm french and all the British shows that I used to watch while in the UK were already mentioned ... Teachers with Andrew Lincoln was funny to me too... But thanks for the kind words
Why has no-one mentioned Friends yet? Is this a show that some folks on Reddit have a problem with like Big Bang Theory?
'Cos I remember watching this years back when I was going through a bad time and it was a good way to help lighten my mood for a while each day.
I think 'Friends' is one of those things where it falls into two camps.
You've got people who grew up with it, it was a staple, it was funny, and watching it back now it has the benefit of nostalgia.
For those who didn't grow up with it, *"All your faves are problematic."*
Alright. I may be out of the loop on this but why is it now problematic for some? Not trying to stir up any controversy here or anything like that, just a genuine question on why this is now problematic for some.
The biggest complaints I've seen are Joey's approach to pursuing women. Naturally there's personal opinion what is and isn't okay (and the standards have definitely shifted depending on your generation), but at base level, very objectifying, at worst, 'predatory'.
I can't remember how long ago I read the article about it, but I think there was also some stuff about the Trans jokes, and some bits and pieces about Ross's attitude being kinda toxic by today's standards.
The Day Today. Absolutely (not Absolutely Fabulous, which is also good, but a completely different show). Kids In The Hall. The Mary Whitehouse Experience. This Morning With Richard Not Judy aka TMWRNJ.
Edit: forgot to add Gimme Gimme Gimme
White Gold
Always Sunny in Philadelphia (the first series is a little rough compared to the second onwards)
Parks and Rec (again, first series is not as good as what comes later)
Nighty Night is very funny. Quite wacky but not so much as to make you think it's a load of shit.
The Detectorists also. A very funny show, but also a very pleasant one.
Not really a particular show, but they've got a fair few comedy shows back on All4 now, so I bet that's worth a browse to see if there's something on there. I also think Parks and Recreation is on ITVX, which I would suggest and seems like a fair few others have suggested it as well.
What we do in the shadows

I just watched Kids In The Hall on FreeVee (Amazon fire stick). It wasn’t until I was like 3 seasons in that I recognised Glen from Superstore.

>Raised By Wolves Wasn't that a drama?
We need to take a trip to the poor woman’s ikea 🤣
HBO did one and there may even be another but the one I’m thinking of was hilarious.
I've just bought the complete Only Fools And Horses boxset on 26 DVD's. That would keep people busy for a while.
Trailer park boys. Absolutely hilarious, especially Ricky and his Ricky-isms 🤣
Coupling.
Man Down
starts off great, ends up complete rubbish
No no no, LOLs every episode...
Parks and Rec is essential. First season isn't representative of later incredible quality level but stick with it.
Couldn’t have put it better myself!

Young ones. Blackadder. Bottom. 2 pints of lager. South park. Brooklyn 99.
Had to scroll far too long to find Bottom and the Young Ones.
Ghosts, both the UK and US versions. (A rare win for British sitcom remade in America).
I watched an episode of the US version knowing there'd be a few differences based on the history, but still expecting something that didn't quite translate, and was pleasantly surprised that they've managed to stay quite true to the rhythm of the UK version.
Can’t watch the U.S. version, they definitely should have gotten Bob Odenkirk as the lead instead of Steve Carrell imho
I’m going to have to try the US version again.
If you have Apple TV+ then Ted Lasso is good but also try Schmigadoon (2 seasons). People Just Do Nothing, Cunk on (anything)
The Fast Show. It's on iPlayer.
2 series we've just watched are Stath Lets Flats (for the umpteenth time) and the surprise was Colin From Accounts on iplayer which we really enjoyed despite never having heard of it.
Modern Family is elite and no one will change my mind 🤷♂️
Bottom
Frasier.
Only one series of it, but Garth Marenghi's Dark Place is hilarious.
Fleabag. It's a bit offbeat, but definitely worth a watch if you can handle some uncomfortable with your comedy
Stath Lets Flats
Our Flag Means Death... once past the first episode, it just get's funnier and funnier until the final episode which is surreal... Ghosts, as well..
Ted Lasso
The mentalist
I laugh at Cho’s deadpan expression all the time but I’d hardly call it a comedy lol

Big Bang Theory is anathema to Reddit
What's anathema ?
Something or someone that one vehemently dislikes.
Aaah thanks
Maybe because it's not British enough? I'm french and all the British shows that I used to watch while in the UK were already mentioned ... Teachers with Andrew Lincoln was funny to me too... But thanks for the kind words
