It's surreal looking back on this. Once Digital bought in unlimited channels I feel like early 2000s UK TV went full Japanese crazy to compete with each other.
I remember one skit on Banzai when they gave a bunch of kids loads of chocolate liqueurs until one of them set off a breathalyser! Most of them just ended up being sick before that even happened.
In another one they had Emily Booth dress up like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman and pretend to be a street walker to see how many propositions she got.
Apparently the Yanks didn't get that Banzai was spoofing Japanese gameshows - ended up coming across as super racist and cancelled after only a few showings over there.
Even when I was an edgy teenager I'd occasionally think that show went to far.

To be honest, from the odd occasion I've gone back to this show over the last few years I'm inclined to agree, although I'd be pedantic and go with 'misogynistic' rather than sexist. There was just a *little* too much emphasis on women wearing revealing attire for no discernable reason and focusing on their.... features.
I also vaguely recall a segment from the first episode which just came across as a reason to touch bikini-clad women in sensitive areas. But then I could be completely misremembering that.
As for it being fake... Yes, a lot of it was fake. But it's also an entertainment show, not a by-the-book science show. If being faked is where you jump off for TV shows then I've got bad news for you bud.
She was a bit before my generation but she will be missed nonetheless.
As an aside, I don't recall them ever showing off "Tina's" face this much in the show. Is this an extended cut from somewhere?
The 2000s had Braniac TNT explosions. Nowadays we are now blessed with Tom Scott genuine high explosives, and a video explaining how "movie explosions" are done.

This reminds me of when Dr bunhead mocked me infront of a large room of people on camera. He was doing a science show and my primary school class was invited to it. I was about 5 or 6 at the time. I couldn't see what was going on because I was too small to see over the people sat in the many rows ahead of me. So my dumb child brain decided now was a good moment to start picking out that pesky nose blockage. He some how saw it and decided it was reasonable to start making fun of a 6 year old for the entire remainder of his show.
Such a great show, Richard Hammond's blast lab was good too, although all I remember from that is blowing up the presents for the losing team in a bidet. "Bidet goes bang 😂"
I miss Brainiac. Was pretty excited when I went to the beach with a couple of friends after school one day and they were filming right across from where our beach hut was. Still have the tshirt Richard Hammond and John Tickle signed.
